Eldin Canyon & Irch Plain

As Link continues traveling to unlock his memories, he hears a strange voice calling to him from a strange forest.

Tropes:

  • Action Film, Quiet Drama Scene: This chapter alone features some major action where Link destroys a Guardian, followed by a quiet flashback of him and Zelda in a field enjoying a little peaceful moment together.
  • Adaptational Badass: Zelda takes up the role of an Action Girl after her powers strengthen, enough that in the "A Premonition" memory, there are clear signs that she too fought alongside Link against the army of monsters.
  • The Artifact: Koroks have virtually no active role in the story aside from Hestu. However, Link notes a rock formation near his Eldin Canyon memory location that players of the game would know is a reference to a Korok location.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Link happens to be present at a stable that a Guardian attacks, and saves a woman's life by parrying a Guardian shot with his shield and then firing an ancient arrow into its eye.
  • Breather Episode: The "Silent Princess" memory is one to the memories. It's nothing but a peaceful moment in a field of flowers with Link and Zelda.
  • Convection, Schmonvection: Averted. Link very much feels the heat coming from Death Mountain, even when he's a relatively safe distance away, and it's repeatedly brought up that he needs protection from the burning heat of Death Mountain's magmatic environment.
  • Eating the Eye Candy: Zelda repeatedly steals glances at Link's shirtless body when they're in the field together, even snapping pictures of him. She's unaware that he knows that she's doing so, and is covertly stealing glances at her curves.
  • Elemental Rock-Paper-Scissors: Link firmly establishes here that using fire on ice enemies kills them instantly, and vice versa.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • Link hears a strange female voice calling to him from the Lost Woods near to him. The voice sings like a siren to him, singing songs featuring lyrics about holding a sword skyward, a hero of twilight, and a a hero of time.
    • Link hears about the three dragons and that there are rumors that offering their scales to specific springs grants access to shrines hidden within.
    • In the past, Zelda patches Link's injury, and mentions that they need to get him to Mipha.
  • Futureshadowing: Zelda and Link get into a fight with an army of monsters, with Link getting injured and Zelda emerging unscathed. In that same moment, Zelda ponders that the increasing strength and scale of monster threats are portending Calamity Ganon's return.
  • The Ghost: Link learns of the existence of Farosh, Dinraal, and Naydra, the dragons that are said to be manifestations of ancient spirits, but it's also noted that no one has ever seen them since long before the Calamity.
  • Heroes Love Dogs: Link bonds with a Hylian Shepherd and playfully feeds him some of his own food.
  • How Is That Even Possible?: The stable residents are thoroughly shocked seeing Link destroy a Guardian so "easily".
  • Invisibility: The Blizzrobe that nearly gets the drop on Link does so because its power of invisibility allowed it to sneak up on him.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: None of the Gorons comment on Calamity Ganon and don't seem to be aware of it.
  • Mood Whiplash: A moment of calm is suddenly broken when someone screams that a Guardian is coming at them.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Link and Zelda bond over how they had to accomplish their destinies, and how easy it is to focus on the negative when they shouldn't.
  • Not So Similar: However, Zelda retorts that there's a different between being a knight and being royalty. As royalty, image is literally everything to her, as without a good image of royalty, she will not thrive as a commander.
  • On Second Thought: Greyson has a brief Jerkass moment towards Link because he's so fed up with being in a job he feels unappreciated in, until Link teases that he may know a place and Greyson immediately backpedals on his attitude and apologizes.
  • Our Sirens Are Different: The singing voice Link hears is described as being alluring like that of a siren.
  • Shameless Fanservice Guy: Link is perfectly okay with Zelda ogling him. He engages in a bit of eye-candy eating himself with her.
  • Skewed Priorities: The Gorons are more concerned about Rudania's actions affecting their mining operations than the apocalyptic entity threatening to break free from Hyrule Castle.
  • Villain Decay: Unlike his prior fights with Guardians, Link instantly kills the Guardian that attacks the stable where he was staying, saving everyone in the stable.
  • When She Smiles: Link openly tells Zelda that she's beautiful when she smiles.
