The Blatchery Plain

Past and present traumas come together as Link discovers his last moments before he was placed in the Shrine of Resurrection.

Tropes:

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Zelda finally awakens her sealing power, but by this point, it's too late to do much, as the Champions and Link are all dead.
  • Cannot Spit It Out: Link is tempted to ask Impa about his daughter's fate, but stops himself before he can officially ask. He ends up asking a different but important question to Paya.
  • Cerebus Call-Back: To Chapter 9, where the "A Premonition" memory had Link and Zelda in a similar situation: stuck in a fight against an army of monsters that ends with Link suffering the injuries for both him and Zelda. Only this time, there's no humor at all, and Link doesn't just get hurt, he is killed.
  • Combat Clairvoyance: Link senses the Yiga coming to attack him right before he attacked.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Leena suffers a Slashed Throat, and dies alone and terrified trying to save her own life, all while she has no idea what happened or why.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: The Yiga doesn't last against Link at all, and is promptly shredded to pieces by Link.
  • Died in Your Arms Tonight: Link dies in Zelda's arms right after she awakened her power.
  • Dirty Coward: Link calls the Yiga Footsoldier who murdered the young woman Leena this, as he went after an innocent girl when he had absolutely no reason to.
  • Driven to Suicide: After Link dies in her arms, Zelda gives up and was "ready for death to take her away".
  • Dying Declaration of Love: Link's last words to Zelda are to say that he loves her.
  • For the Evulz: There was no reason for the Yiga Footsoldier to give Leena any mind at all.
  • The Hero Dies: Link is explicitly dead in Zelda's arms after succumbing to his wounds.
  • Hope Bringer: The spirit of the Master Sword comes to the rescue and tells Zelda that there's still a chance to save Link, and gives her the strength to keep going.
  • It's All My Fault: Link immediately sees Leena's death as his fault, since the Yiga was after him, and he couldn't save her.
  • Ms. Exposition: Paya recognizes the three songs that the female voice sang to Link, and identifies them as the Song of Time, Ballad of the Goddess, and Song of Twilight. She also gives Link an abridged version of their stories.
  • Oh, Crap!: Calamity Ganon seems to be horrified when Zelda adopts her form as the Owl and threatens her after she awakens it. It does nothing to Zelda whose determination is as strong as ever.
  • Open Secret: Impa teases that Zelda and Link's attempts to hide their relationship pathetically failed.
  • Please Wake Up: Zelda begs for Link not to die, and then pleads for him to wake up after he does, at which point she decides to lie down and die with him.
  • Power Tattoo: Zelda gains one in the form of an ornate owl carrying an orb with the Triforce symbol in it after awakening her sealing power. It glows gold when she uses it.
  • Red Herring: A random woman offers Link some Mighty Bananas. He accepts them...and the woman lets him leave, to any gamer's surprise since that's a common ruse signaling someone is a Yiga Clan member. And then she gets her throat slit by a Yiga Clan member.
  • Sacrificial Lamb: Leena's death solidifies Link's hatred for the Yiga and starts up his vengeful nature against them.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: Leena isn't even named until after she's dead.
  • Wham Shot: When Zelda activates her power the second time after Purah and Robbie take Link away, she activates her powers and transforms into a giant golden owl that carries a large orb with the Triforce symbol that carried Zelda herself. This is the true extent of Zelda's immense power, and Calamity Ganon is not the only one capable of transforming into a giant spectral animal.
