West Necluda & Hyrule Castle

Link travels to the most dangerous region in Hyrule in the name of uncovering his memories, and along the way makes a horrifically painful discovery.

Tropes:

  • Action Dad: Link is revealed to be a father in this chapter.
  • Black Eyes of Crazy: Link encounters physical Malice, some of them attached to eyes described as being catlike.
  • Calling Parents by Their Name: The start of Zelda's "Reason You Suck" Speech to her father starts off with her addressing him by his first name.
  • Calling the Old Man Out: Zelda doesn't take her father's demands sitting down, she goes in on him.
And is that really all I am to you? An image? A weapon? A tool? Tell me. It's not like you’ve made me seem like anything else. Instead of mourning for Mother with me, you just buried yourself in the kingdom and forgot about me. I tried to mourn her with you, but you barely ever even looked at me. You just handed me off to maids and Urbosa. You were never there when I needed you. The only time you were ever there was to command me to stop playing with toys or reading books or anything I really loved all so that I could awaken my powers. You haven’t been a father to me since I was six. I don’t even remember you being one to me.
  • Dem Bones: Stal- enemies make their appearance here.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • When it's revealed that Link has a daughter, Link in the memory mentions that he'll never get to see her grow up, and Zelda subsequently reveals in the present that she's still alive 100 years later.
    • The narration points out the presence of three little boxes on the shelves in Zelda's Study containing diminutive versions of the three main Guardian types.
  • From Bad to Worse: Symin tells Link that the presence and existence of Stal- enemies is a sign of Ganon's power rising, as this was the first time they manifested at all.
  • Hand Blast: From the wrists. Link discovers bracelets designed after Urbosa's shield, and they're imbued with magic that can blast energy outwards. They're Expies of Wonder Woman's Bracelets of Submission from the DCEU.
  • Heroic BSoD: Link briefly falls into one when he learns that he had a daughter 100 years ago that not only did he forget about, but that he likely outlived just by time passing. Zelda saves him by revealing that his daughter is still alive.
  • Law of Conservation of Detail: Link's ventures through the plot-irrelevant Lake and Faron Regions occurs entirely off-screen, and are only told in his diary entries after-the-fact.
  • The Matchmaker: One of the things Link did when in the southern regions was to bring together a Gerudo and a Hylian man at Lover's Pond.
  • Mood Whiplash: After a relatively lighthearted recap opening, a Blood Moon suddenly occurs.
  • "Not So Different" Remark: Link confirms how similar he and Zelda are, as they both struggled with the image and expectation that came with their respective titles. Link reveals that
  • Outliving One's Offspring: After learning that he had a daughter 100 years ago, Link naturally assumes that his daughter is long dead by now. Zelda reassures him that she's alive.
  • The Power of Love: Link and Zelda embracing their love for each other allows the latter's powers to finally reach their true strength.
  • Properly Paranoid: Uncertain, but Link is wary of another person only labelled as a traveler, as the person could have been a Yiga Clan member.
  • Ragnarök Proofing: Somehow, Zelda's clothing survived in the castle for 100 years unscathed. Link even lampshades it, and takes them with him.
  • Relationship Upgrade: Link and Zelda have their first kiss.
  • Romantic Rain: Link and Zelda embrace their relationship during the rain.
  • Showy Invincible Hero: Link says outright that he is practically unbeatable in a fight, and the narrative drops any pretense that he might lose. The fear for him is the fact that people around him are not so unbeatable.
  • Wham Line: Zelda delivers one that changes everything about Link's perception about himself.
What if you and everyone else told your daughter that she was meant to be queen, but that's not what she'' wanted?'
