Nightmare Fuel / Friday Night Funkin': Corruption

Go To

Unmarked spoilers for all the weeks of Friday Night Funkin': Corruption.

    General
  • The very premise of the mod is that a malignant and twisted corruption possesses everyone it can get its hands on, if not outright killing them like with Senpai and Spirit, in order to Take Over the World in a Zombie Apocalypse scenario. The ones who are corrupted looks like shadowy figures with monstruous Slasher Smiles, claws and pink blood-like substances dripping on their bodies. Each and every character is shown fighting, struggling, and ultimately losing as the Corruption takes hold, showcasing it as a terrifying nigh-unstoppable force.
  • The corruption is also very well aware of the real world. There are numerous instances where Corrupted Boyfriend looks at the camera, even while singing against his soon-to-be-corrupted victim. What's more is that, instead of the funny expressions the real Boyfriend has when missing a note in the original game, this Boyfriend reaches his hands on the camera while looking at the player, as if the corruption is threatening the player to not lose or they would be its next victim.

    Week 2

    Week 6

Roots

  • To express the fact that Spirit is well and truly pissed, his expression was changed from his normal sullen appearance to one with bulging eyes and a smile so wide it goes across his form, making Monster and Boyfriend's Slasher Smiles look like quaint smirks. Further exacerbating it are multiple moments during "Treacherous Thorns" where Spirit suddenly appears, catching those who weren't expecting it off guard.

Others

  • A hidden log can be found in the Week 6 demo, encrypted in Base64. Once decrypted, it is very heavily implied to be the last writings of a mother pleading to her soon-to-be-ex-husband for help as someone she presumes to be a drunkard stalks them and drives them into a war of attrition, unaware that it is in fact the Corruption coming for her and her children.

    Week 9

Allure

  • In the beginning of the song, the corrupted Girlfriend seems to be grabbing at her face, before snapping her own neck with a loud crunch and sickening scream.
  • Once the song reaches the middle, Evil Girlfriend casts an illusion to drop Boyfriend's guard. As Boyfriend approaches her, Evil Girlfriend lets out a Psychotic Smirk in preparation to stab him with her Tendrils of Darkness. With the tentacles creeping up onto Boyfriend, he quickly becomes suspicious of her antics and dodges at the last second. At that moment forward, Boyfriend got his heart ripped out from the trick and is now more wary of the situation.

Estrange

  • Evil Girlfriend now instead uses her illusions to drive Boyfriend crazy and it shows with how he slowly undergoes a Sanity Slippage.
    • At first, Boyfriend is confident in rap battling Evil Girlfriend, but once the latter pretends to fully corrupt herself and give the appearance his progress was for naught, Boyfriend loses the will to fight.
    • Boyfriend's madness starts off with him becoming moody about the situation, before the illusions become so intense that he needs to grab onto his head.
    • If grabbing on to his head wasn't enough, Boyfriend's forced smile and sparkling eyes as he battles Evil Girlfriend clearly shows that something is wrong with his mind.
    • Eventually, the illusions become too much for Boyfriend and he is put into a state where he requires Soul Boyfriend's assistance to still have hope in saving Girlfriend.
  • By the end of the song, in which Boyfriend now has the advantage over the fight, Evil Girlfriend doesn't take the situation kindly. She responds to her loss by destroying her own speaker and hanging her own body to a large set of wings created. During Evil Girlfriend's Transformation Sequence, she admits it was a shame to have lost and the she says it appears to be filled with Tranquil Fury.
  • Just as Boyfriend believes himself to have beaten Girlfriend, he and her are quickly endangered again by Evil Pico shooting the stage.

    Week 10

Extractor

Headshot

  • A Freeze-Frame Bonus right before the song starts shows texts saying the "Harvest Moon Rises", referencing the moon rising for the song.
  • Evil Pico pointing his gun right at Boyfriend while the latter is celebrating and shooting him. At first glance, it initially appears as though that Boyfriend had died, since most of his body had been covered by shadows right after getting shot.
    • For Pico to uncorrupt himself, it happens in the worst moment for him as he has to watch Boyfriend bleeding out while his corrupted mouth laughs maniacally.
    • In response to Boyfriend's supposed death, Evil Pico uses the opportunity to laugh at him, but gets cut short from Girlfriend's terrifying Death Glare from behind.
  • Boyfriend manages to survive the gunshot as it only him his hand, but the wounded hand is still bleeding from the wounded and he can only let out a nervous smile to reinforce his confidence.
  • Despite Boyfriend winning the song, Evil Pico suddenly cracks himself, causing Pico's uncorrupted eye to go blank and the corrupt eye to glow red.

Blood Moon

  • The end result of Evil Pico's sudden cracking is revealed to be a transformation to reach the state of Nexus. Due to Boyfriend being too powerful to corrupt, Evil Pico is pushed to going into a Deadly Upgrade where the best way to deal against him is with death.
  • Evil Pico launches out a long list of attacks where Boyfriend tenses from the rapid speed that are charging at him.

    Week 11

Hivemind

  • Tank Amalgam might be frightening to some, also the biblical stuff he says are a bit unsettling too.

Null And Void

  • Seeing Girlfriend's cries for boyfriend after he gets sent into the destroyed game to face Null without her and Pico noticing is heartbreaking. Then her corrupted mother arrives, and now that sadness becomes fear.

CHKDSK

  • When he says "Help Me", Spirit literally becomes the spirit (no pun intended) of the harvest moon from Courage the Cowardly Dog, if you don't belive me, click here to see him.
  • Skid EATING UP HIS OWN MOTHER is something VERY skin-crawling... (and then Pico throws up when he sees that)
