"Readin' fanfics on a Friday night, yeah!"

These are recommendations made by Tropers for Friday Night Funkin' fanfics, all of which have to be signed to stay on the page. Feel free to add a fanfic of your own to the list, but remember to use the template found here.

You can also add to the current recommendations if you want. You can do it by expanding on the synopsis and/or pertinent tags, or linking similar or related fanfics. Reviews are also encouraged, but please make sure to make reviews have substance; if you simply want to recommend a fic without an extensive review, put your Troper name in the "Recommended by" line of the fic in question. No-name recommendations will be Zapped.

Please use the discussion page for conversations about fics. Discussion of the recommendation is also welcome there. As such discussion is important, do remember to add the discussion page to the watchlist, if need be.

Do warn when a fanfic may head into sexually explicit or non-canon territory. Some people just don't like it, and as we all know, Shipping is Serious Business.

Street Smarts by Livitup

  • Recommended by: Crossover-Enthusiast
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: "So, let me get this straight." Pico said, sighing heavily. "You're creating a gang with a literal bomb, a basketball playing robot, two random children, a Russian, and your ex boyfriend?"
"Pretty much." Boyfriend shrugged. "You want in?"
"This has got to be the stupidest thing I've ever heard. Hell yeah I'm in."
  • Pairing(s): Various; "see what you wanna see" in the words of the author.
  • Comments: So, what happens when a dumbass rapper, in an attempt to protect himself from his girlfriend's literal demon father and the various things that get thrown his way, creates a "gang" consisting of people he's fought in the past, three of which don't really like him that much? Pure, unbridled chaos. Characters and character dynamics are wonderful, and reading any chapter usually has me smiling at the least.

Living Life as Player 2 by Vauschen

  • Recommended by: MayumiWorld
  • Status: Complete
  • Sypnosis: Your name is Boyfriend.xml, and throughout your life, you have always been player two. Your rapping and music career is decent, yeah, but you've always racked up more losses than wins against other contenders.

Recently, though, you start to notice how you sing much better than all of your opponents, how you recognize every note before it falls from their mouth. You notice how despite your comfort with your own Girlfriend (and recently, her parents), you still sing through beeps. You notice how you keep running into stranger and stranger... people, who are much more powerful than you.

And weirder still, how were you winning against them?
  • Pairings: Boyfriend/Girlfriend, although it isn't the focus.
  • Comments: This fanfic is pretty good for a first-timer. The character interactions outside of the battles and the worldbuilding in and out of Boyfriend's universe are pretty cool, making it a good read. Especially after Boyfriend learns about the true nature of his powers. Also, mod characters and references to YouTubers and members of the Friday Night Funkin’ community are also in the fanfic, so that's appreciated.

Boyfriend Goes To A Middle School by NatureWillow

  • Recommended by: Phoenix Fire 69
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: He only wanted to do something nice for the kids, after all, it was his old school. He just wasn't prepared for the bomb of questions to drop onto him. Thankfully, once he's home, his partners are there to take his mind off of it with meatloaf and laughing.
  • Pairings: BF/GF/Pico, BF/Pico, BF/GF

Rekindling by IERO-BANTER

  • Recommended by: Phoenix Fire 69
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Keith and Pico were close friends as children, that is, until Keith ended up moving out after the third grade. Coming back a few years later, he finds that Pico seems to be a whole new person- unable to look him in the eye, constantly carrying a gun, and a huge scowl dominating his face. Though Keith knows of an incident happening at their school after he moved away, he doesn't know the full details- and after pushing a little too far to get an explanation out of his childhood friend, he and Pico have a falling out. A year or so later, the two of them meet again when Keith challenges him to a rap battle, and after seeing the terror in Pico's eyes from the sounds of a thunderstorm, Keith realizes there's more to his old friend than he knows. As Keith is desperate to help Pico heal, and Pico is equally as determined to push him away, the two of them begin to rekindle their friendship- and maybe, after Pico opens up to someone for the first time in a long time, even something more.

Two Idiots by TimeWillNowResume

  • Recommended by: Phoenix Fire 69
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: A Series Fic detailing the relationship between Boyfriend and Girlfriend, while adding lots of worldbuilding.
  • Pairing: BF/GF
  • Comments: I absolutely love these stories, they have so many interesting ideas that really flesh out the world of the game.

You're the shield protecting me from danger. by Graymond

  • Recommended by: YuriHaru567
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Keith really really wishes thunder storms did not exist. Luckily for him, he has two wonderful spouses willing to help him.
  • Pairing(s): BF/GF/Pico
  • Comments: This fanfic falls between a Take That! or an Affectionate Parody of people leather-pantsing Pico for the sake of writing a story. It was pretty hilarious to read, but be ready for a lethal dose of Purple Prose.

Beep boop baap by Keith_Must_Die

  • Recommended by: YuriHaru567
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: "Beep bap-ah boop-oh blue yuh skaap buup boo" that was the rhythm the other set with his beeps, vibing his head to the tune his phone was playing in that train station. Pico didn't catch it at first, but soon enough, found himself practising with the other. He wishes more than anything else talking to him again, and if he must rap battle the other's girlfriend, let it be.
  • Pairing(s): BF/Pico, BF/GF
  • Comments: One of the better BF/Pico fanfics on Ao3. Pico retains most of his canon personality, while still being sort of an Adaptational Nice Guy (without him turning into a Draco in Leather Pants). His friends also keep their original personalities, and it's really funny to read their thoughts on the FNF characters (namely, Nene's one-sided rivalry with Girlfriend and her parents).

No Idiots Were Harmed in the Making of His Reality by jubliantscribbler

  • Recommended by: Alignment
  • Status: Complete (but part of an ongoing series)
  • Synopsis: "If Pico is being honest, he's not sure what to make of his relationship with Boyfriend and Girlfriend. Any other sane person would see their ex who ghosted them for a few years and not want to deal with them, ESPECIALLY if they came back with a gun aimed for the kill.

Any other sane person would think, "Ah, that's a person I should avoid." But no, not them. Not these two fools. Any other person with functioning BRAINCELLS could see that he's someone to avoid. But it's just his luck that he's stuck with these two chucklefucks now.

(So why is it that he can't leave them alone when he knows he should be the last person on their minds?)"
  • Pairing(s): BF/GF, BF/Pico, endgame BF/Pico/GF OT3.
  • Comments: One of the better written FNF fics I've encountered. The fic and series is mostly focused on Pico, featuring BF and GF being believable total dumbasses, and a fair mixture of angst and comedy. Pico's School is referenced pretty frequently.

It All Started with an OSHA Violation

It All Started with an OSHA Violation by WokaDokaDee
  • Recommended by: YuriHaru567
  • Crossover with: Spooky Month
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Skid & Pump find themselves involved with a strange science experiment soon gone horribly wrong. Follow them on their journey as they try to survive in this abyss.
  • Comments: An extremely dark take on the characters we all know and love. Except this time, Skid and Pump are in very real danger. The gory bits of the story start when they meet Monster, and it only gets worse from there. Rated "Mature" for graphic depictions of violence.

It's Always Spooky Month

It's Always Spooky Month by Livitup
  • Recommended by: Crossover-Enthusiast
  • Crossover with: Spooky Month
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: Following a failed plot to eat some humans, Monster is thrust into fatherhood when the kids he used as bait won't leave him alone. Hilarity Ensues as he struggles to care for two energetic, Spooky Month-obsessed children who always manage to get themselves into trouble.
  • Comments: A fun, chaotic little Alternate Universe where Monster ends up saddled with taking care of Skid and Pump after the events of Week 2. What I particularly like is that while the major focus is on the three, the author isn't afraid to include other elements from Spooky Month, Friday Night Funkin', the various works FNF itself crosses over with, and even some FNF mods.

Total Funkin' Island by DTPhenom

  • Recommended by: AcidicRafter2
  • Crossover with: Total Drama, Spooky Month, and Doki Doki Literature Club!.
  • Status: Ongoing
  • Synopsis: As a break from their usual shenanigans, Boyfriend and Girlfriend sign up for a survivor game show. Unbeknownst to them, this wasn't any average game show nor were they aware of many others that had the exact same idea. Stuck on a remote island with wanted criminals, demons, and sentient A.I.s, will they make it to the end? One thing's for sure, something else entirely is brewing behind the scenes...
  • Pairing(s): BF/GF, BF/Pico, Carol/Whitty, Ruv/Sarvente, Monika/Senpai
  • Tags: Dark Fic
  • Comments: One of the best crossover fanfictions for Total Drama, Friday Night Funkin, and everything inbetween. It takes a step forward in creativity, completely designing original challenges and establishing roots between each universe. Certain story elements are done so naturally that it feels like Chris Mclean was actually apart of the Funkin storyline. It maintains a lot of canon information and details from everyone here with certain interpretations to spice up the competition.

He Will Consume Everything by Ready4This

  • Recommended by: Crossover-Enthusiast
  • Crossover with: Spooky Month
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Monster was content with his life. Find food, kill food, cook food, maybe sing during and/or after. It was alright, up until he encountered some cultists rambling about a child they called "everything". And he just couldn't pass up the opportunity to eat everything, now could he?
  • Comments: Warning, this fic is dark. Monster being, well, a monster is on full display here, manipulating and killing to get what he wants and generally just being an absolute bastard. Despite this, the fic never manages to feel too dark, with moments of humor (some at Monster's expense); the character writing is also fantastic, and even though the main focus is on Monster, the rest of the cast get moments to shine, particularly Lila.

Friday Night Funkin' Minus

Friday Night Funkin' Minus by IagoAnims and AshGray_Art
  • Recommended by: Crossover-Enthusiast
  • Status: In-Progress
  • Synopsis: Friday Night Funkin' but everyone is based on their icons
  • Comments: A sprite swap where everyone is redesigned to look like their icons. The designs themselves take elements of the icons, including bits you normally wouldn't otherwise notice, and spins them into designs reminiscent of but completely different to the original characters, making the game feel like it stepped straight out of an Alternate Universe. The designs also have little touches to each of them, like the Boyfriend gesturing while he sings or Pico's mouth actually opening and closing as he sings.

Friday Night Funkin': Corruption

Friday Night Funkin': Corruption by Phantom Fear, SimplyCrispy, and fluffyhairs
  • Recommended by: princemak
  • Status: In-Progress
  • Synopsis: Has its own page here!
  • Comments: The first most notable Dark Fic in the franchise. While this mod is currently more of a series than a playable mod at the moment, it's still something that's worth taking a look at. Following an alternate timeline where Monster is now an active villain spreading a corruption amongst the cast, and with The Boyfriend and Girlfriend being the first to succumb, the player takes the perspective of a corrupted character who's main goal now is to now spread the infection to the rest of the gang. The series has got its own set of sprite-swaps for most characters with neat little touches, and a few original tracks by the team. The full playlist can be found here. Currently not up for download, but a Week 2 Early Access is available here.

V.S Zardy - Foolhardy

V.S Zardy - Foolhardy by SwankyBox, StarnyArt, Rozebud, and KadeDeveloper
  • Recommended by: Spinycemb
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: The Boyfriend and The Girlfriend get lost after sneaking into a corn maze to listen to tunes in peace, and to make matters worse, the scarecrows watching over it are getting sick of the noise. Their leader, Zardy, decides that if the two want a show, he'll give them a show.
  • Comments: This mod was conceptualized by SwankyBox as a way of delivering a similar feeling to Through the Fire and Flames by Dragonforce as it appeared in Guitar Hero; A long, difficult but rewarding experience fueled by a fun notemap and an absolute banger of a song. The mod only comes with one song, the titular "Foolhardy"... However, this song clocks in at nearly 4 minutes long, Beats Per Minute measuring in at 200, and over 1000 notes going into it, the song is a challenge of endurance as well as dexterity.

VS Hex Mod

VS Hex Mod by YingYang48.
  • Recommended by: Rossmallo
  • Status: Complete (5 songs)
  • Synopsis: What's this? On a sunny week near the basketball court a tall figure approaches you. It's Hex! This robotic lookin' fella challenges you to a battle. Unlike your previous rivals though there seems to be no bad intent coming from him. Or is there? Either way, battle is a battle, and your Girlfriend is here to watch how you win!
  • Comments: Another mod with a completely new character, Hex - a robotic basketball player that communicates the button commands on his screen and sings in electronic beeps. The overall aesthetic, character design, upbeat music and and higher-than-usual reliance on harmonising between The Boyfriend and the opponent gives this mod a far friendlier mood than some of the harder mods out there, which can be a great palette cleanser. The mod isn't as hard as some others out there, but it is extremely refined and makes up for the difficulty with how damn good it sounds and plays, with the mod often being compared favorably to the aforementioned Vs Whitty mod.

Friday Night Funkin': NEO

Friday Night Funkin': NEO by jellyfishedm
  • Recommended by: rfgamefanatic
  • Status: In-Progress (Currently up to Week 4)
  • Synopsis: Yet another B-side-esque mod, this one stands out with a distinctly lo-fi and relaxed theme for the remixes, as well as a completely overhauled visual style with lots of dark and moody colors.
  • Comments: Don't let this mod fly under your radar- the overhauled visuals look gorgeous and consistent, providing an entirely different feel to other remix mods, which the music complements perfectly. The tracks are harder than the original ones but not up to the level of the B-Sides, giving a perfect alternative if you want a mod that's a bit more relaxing than the others.

The Tricky Mod

The Tricky Mod by Banbuds, Rozebud, Cval, and KadeDeveloper
  • Recommended by: Cleverusername7777
  • Synopsis: REALITY COMPROMISED. THE CLOWN HAS BEEN ENGAGED... to a rap battle! Tricky, The Nevadean Champion from Madness Combat, appears to challenge the boyfriend. The mod contains three custom songs, excluding the bonus song.
  • Status: Complete
  • Comments: This is one of the highest quality mods out there, especially now that it’s completely finished. Tricky's poses and twitchy animations perfectly encapsulate his crazed character, not to mention just how chaotic, cool, and catchy the songs themselves are. The mod also features multiple cutscenes, as well as an incredibly difficult bonus song. It's definitely worth a download even if you aren't a fan of Madness Combat.

Everywhere at the End of Funk

Everywhere At The End Of Funk by Pierogii and Birdbonaza
  • Recommended by: princemak
  • Status: In-Progress
  • Disclaimer: This mod may be disturbing to some as it features themes of dementia/memory loss and has potentially disturbing audio (old-timey audio with a lot of static). If you find yourself thinking you might get upset about these following themes, do not download.
  • Synopsis: A modpack based off of the album Everywhere At The End Of Time by The Caretaker, which represents dementia, Alzheimer’s, and memory loss.
  • Comments: A chillingly dark mod which is in stark contrast to most FNF mods around. While currently only having sprite changes up to Week 3 and only one album song which in the tutorial, it’s still a good mod to play with if you’re looking for something more serious and somber. Here, the Boyfriend is implied to have dementia/Alzheimer’s, and is slowly losing forgetting everything that has happened. His memories are going static, and he’s completely alone. His opponent is missing, and not even his girlfriend is around, though... who was she, anyway...? Why can’t he remember...?

Smoke 'Em Out Struggle

Smoke 'Em Out Struggle by Atsuover
  • Recommended by: William-ghost1
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Smoke 'Em Out Struggle is an original full week mod. Face off against a man named Garcello, as he tries to peer pressure Boyfriend into smoking a strange cigarette
  • Comments: This is one of the few tragic mods. Garcello's smoking clearly effects him in multiple ways. It also utilizes some mechanics from week seven of the base game, such as cutscenes and mid-match dialouge. There's a lot of attention to detail, such as him having an accurate voice for a smoker, and having the color of his smoke depending on which direction his arrow was pointing. While not too difficult, this mod is very interesting

Stickman VS Friday Night Funkin'

Stickman VS Friday Night Funkin' by JzBoy
  • Recommended by: Zerukin
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Boyfriend challenges a stick figure to a music battle, but the Stickman isn't having any of it.
  • Comment: This mod is absolutely hilarious from the stick figure doing very poorly to him outright throwing the mics at the boyfriend. Not to mention the fact that it includes five songs (two of them are accessed through freeplay and one of them is a modified version of Bopeebo). Then there is the last song in the mod's story which, true to the name, is a serious and epic song to close the mod out on.

V.S. TABI Ex Boyfriend

  • Recommended by: mariobroultimate
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Your girlfriend, invited by her dad's friend for some unknown reason, asks you to come along with her. When you arrive at the place, there was no one, except for one weird guy that scared your girlfriend out. Will everything go well or is something bad going to happen? Turns out he was your girlfriend's EX-boyfriend, Tabi, which she had broke up with a year ago. When they both started dating, he was a novice music producer who had passion and love for his work, that was until he met her dad. Your girlfriend's dad, being an ex-rockstar, wanted his little girl to be just like him, that's why they both started using Tabi for their advantage. Years had passed since they were together, when Tabi suddenly came to notice that his girlfriend was using him for her own career and didn't care about him at all. And at the time, he even lost his career helping his girlfriend to become a star. Once she knew he understood everything, a couple of guys came to Tabi's house and kidnapped him. He woke up in some alleyway without clothes and.. surprisingly, without his body. To his shock, it was invisible except his hand that was pure bones. He knew who did this to him right away.. her dad.. he must get revenge.. he must kill them both... Another year had passed, he made a plan and he’s ready to execute it.
  • Comments: Everything about this mod is absolutely amazing. The story, art direction, character design, and especially the music are all perfection. It even has fully voice acted cutscenes, which I believe is a first for FNF mods. A very well made mod which the creator put lots of love and care into, and I highly recommend trying it out if you haven’t yet.

Vs. Impostor

VS Impostor V2 by Various Full List
  • Recommended by: Spinycemb
  • Status: Complete
  • Crossover With: Among Us
  • Synoposis: Boyfriend and Girlfriend stumble into the Polus outpost, and have a near immediate run-in with a particularly suspicious-looking astronaut brandishing a glock. Things escalate pretty quickly from there.
  • Comments: Being a full remaster of a previous mod with a wide variety of contributions from different people, the mod stands as one of the larger community efforts. While having a wide array of tongue-in-cheek references to Among Us's cultural impact through memes, as well as not taking its framing device at all seriously, it's clearly a labor of love with a lot of effort put into it. It contains three songs, "Sussus Moogus", "Sabotage", and "Meltdown"

literally every fnf mod ever

literally every fnf mod ever (Vs Bob Week) by wildythomas and phloxio
  • Recommended by: CapitanoNox
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Oh no! Bob is angry and you made him angry!
  • Comments: A joke mod supposed to be a parody of every other mod, this mod takes a rather particular turn. Without spoiling much, this mod is very well-coded and will do things no other mod has done so far. It's also surprisingly hard towards the end, making it quite the challenge for the most competitive players.

Wii Funkin

Wii Funkin' by Sulayre
  • Recommended by: Blade 84
  • Status: Complete (Open Source)
  • Synopsis: Challenge Matt from Wii Sports in a full week in this brand new Friday Night Funkin' Mod!
  • Comments: A neat crossover with the Wii Sports series, where, as the synopsis says, you take on Nintendo's resident Memetic Badass, Matt. And as befitting of a Memetic Badass, Matt is packing FIVE songs (10 if you count the semi-officiak Wiik 3), each one more challenging than the last and each one giving plenty of respect to the songs of the series he came from! However, if you take on this mod at its hardest, make sure to bring your A game with you, as this is a DIFFICULT mod to get through.

VS Sketchy

V.S. Sketchy by Xeneth
  • Recommended by: Bruhmpex
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: You have been transported into a notebook. How exactly? Who knows! You see some sort of person drawing. He seems weird, and a little bit sketchy. You investigate his drawing, and it's a perfect replica of your girlfriend! Are you gonna show this punk a lesson for drawing your girlfriend or are you just gonna stand there and take that blow?
  • Comments: This mod utilizes an interesting art style comprised of simplistic notebook sketches (hence the name), including sprites for the Boyfriend and Girlfriend with the same color scheme. Sketchy himself may have a very, very basic design, but he makes up for it with a set of great-sounding, hard-as-nails songs that will put your finger speed to a grueling test, especially during the last song "Rip and Tear" (for reference, this is said song on Normal Mode). There's also a metric ton of references to a number of things in the background, from other video games to memes and even other mods such as the aforementioned Whitty and Tricky. Overall, it's a very solid mod and one you shouldn't miss out on.

Vs. Sketchy REMASTER by Jason the Art Kid

  • Recommended by: Zerukin
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: An artist gets back into drawing, with one of the things he draws being an old character of his named Sketchy who takes on a life of his own and starts drawing things himself, including Girlfriend. Then the artist draws Boyfriend, and Sketchy does not like that one bit.
  • Comments: The original Sketchy is definitely fun and still very much worth checking out, but this newer version definitely can be considered a completely different mod from the original Sketchy as the songs, despite sharing the same names, sound very different. The graphics are redone to give them an appearance that matches the natural asthetic of Friday Night Funkin as well. The plot of this version is also different from the original and worth taking a look at. And don't worry. This mod was approved by Xeneth.

Martian Mixtape

Martian Mixtape by H Thagomizer
  • Recommended by: Keqikombupig
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Martian Mixtape is an absurdly ambitious full overhaul mod, currently featuring 4 weeks with new antagonists to match. Go up against a neurotic alien, an FBI agent, an alien's skeleton(????), and a weirdo conspiracy theorist in a brand new JAMMING set of weeks!
  • Comments: A well made mod with a total of 13 songs, which features you rapping against the opponents mentioned above. Unlike most other mods, this one features no dialogue, with the story being told via the characters’ sprites instead. The songs are also very well made and a good listen. Overall, a great mod that’s very worth a try. The ending of Week 1 is still hilarious, by the way.

Vs. Flippy: Flipped Out!

Flipped Out (aka Vs. Flippy) by j0hnnytest
  • Recommended by: YuriHaru567
  • Status: In-Progress
  • Crossover with: Happy Tree Friends
  • Synopsis: You and your girlfriend went to the forest for a nice picnic, hopefully no one ruins it
  • Comments: The demo only consists of one song, but it's absolutely smashing to hear. Also, Flippy looks legitimately terrifying in this mod, having his design revamped to better match the art of Friday Night Funkin'. Overall, the mod has a lot of potential, and I can't wait to see which direction the mod will take.

Friday Night Shootin'

Friday Night Shootin’ by NEONVORE
  • Recommended by: mariobroultimate
  • Status: In-Progress
  • Synopsis: The player plays as Pico and rap battles against characters from the Pico series, such as Nene, Darnell and Cassandra. Alongside them, quite a few Newgrounds guest stars also appear.
  • Comments: There isn’t much story behind this mod, but the presentation more than makes up for it. The colors and the artstyle are visually stunning and pop out really well. You play as Pico this time around with Boyfriend as support. And judging by the Tutorial being dubbed Afternoon Date, this mod is a Prequel to the base game taking place when Pico and Boyfriend were dating. The fanservice is through the roofs on this one as well, since the characters Pico faces originate from his home series (though some other Newgrounds characters will be thrown in as well), garnering lots of nostalgia from Newgrounds veterans. And as always, the music is top tier. If you are a big fan of the Pico series as well as Newgrounds in general, this mod is definitely for you.

QT Mod

QT Mod by Hazardous 24 and Count Nightshade
  • Recommended by: mariobroultimate
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: You hear music coming from the alleyway and you go to investigate. You see a cute girl listening to music. She asks if you want to sing with her and you agree...
  • Comments: Where do I even begin here? At first this mod seems to just be about a cute girl who wants to win Boyfriend’s heart, much like Sky. But when you notice the warning sign in the background, you’ll soon realize that something isn’t right… I don’t wanna spoil much, but I will say this. The third song does have your typical One-Winged Angel transformation, but it’s not in the way you’ll probably expect. Also, the third and fourth songs are both extremely long and hard (eat your heart out Zardy!). If you’re up to the challenge, then I recommend this mod! Good luck! You’re gonna need it…

holofunk

HoloFunk by KeatonHoshida, GGalactical, CoolStalker, Awoofle, et al
  • Recommended by: Gadjiltron
  • Status: In-Progress
  • Synopsis: Retirement won't keep Aloe down as she squares off against her former coworkers in rap battles!
  • Comments: If you're a fan of hololive then this is worth checking out. While each week's tracks mainly focus on the songs associated with your opponent (each one a banger in its own right), it does its best to sneak in nods to the base game's tracks as well. Only 4 weeks have been modded at the time of writing, with more content planned in the future.

Vs Sonic.exe

Vs Sonic.Exe by Right Burst Ultra, Razencro, MarStarBro, Comgaming_Nz, Zekuta, Crybit, and Vania
  • Recommended by: Spinycemb
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: As an entity wearing the visage of Sonic the Hedgehog finishes claiming its latest victims, something takes him by surprise - a blue-haired boy and his girlfriend actively challenging him by chucking a mic at him. Being something that loves games, it obliges gleefully.
  • Comments: A very well-featured mod, it pits you against one of the bigger faces of the "Haunted Video Game" genre of Creepypasta, with visuals and songs meant to be distressing as much as they are flashy. The main song is "Too Slow", an adaptation of Sonic.exe's most common motifs that starts off slow but picks up the pace fairly quickly. In addition to the main song, you gain access to two others, Execution, and Endless, complete with their own opponents. A very high-quality mod overall.

In the Galaxy

In the Galaxy Mod, the New Period of FNF by Allen 98637
  • Recommended by: KeqiKombuPig
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Now BF and GF have a trip in the galaxy. In the ship, a child who is working here just felt bored came across and challenge BF, can you handle it?
  • Comments: Oh my god. This mod is the most mind-blowing thing the community has ever created. The first song seems normal at first, but notes begin to change speeds, then things just gets crazier form there. For the second song and onwards, gameplay mechanics and different Interface Screw changes EVERY TWO TURNS, Include but not limited to: Notes moving in different patterns, Notes turn invisible, Note bar moving instead of the notes, Four notes fusing into one line, And memorizing notes. Special mechanics aside, this mod also has really good music, fun gameplay, and is a must have in yout FNF mod collection. Who thought a child working on a spaceship would have so many tricks up to her sleeve?

Friday Night Funkin': B3 Remixed

Friday Night Funkin’: B3 Remixed by Biddle3.
  • Recommended by: Trocyte V
  • Status: Complete as of vanilla 2.7; currently receives tweaks and reworks in-between weeks
  • Synopsis: Like the B-Sides, this mod gives Palette Swaps to all characters and replaces the tracks with new remixes, complete with harder charts. However, unlike B-Sides, speed is prioritized over complexity for both composition and chart difficulty. The creator also is set on redesigning and renaming the characters, even adding in a new original character in the future, with the intention of giving the mod it's own unique lore outside of just remixing the base game's songs.
  • Comments: This mod serves as an alternative to the B-Sides, being on the easier side for those who can (or need to) read faster note charts and want the taste of something new. Biddle3's take on the game's soundtrack is a treat to listen to as well, being based on both Electronic Music and the soundtrack to classic Sonic, and having the characters getting extra voice effects throughout each song that subtly enhance their vocals. Outside of the mod, B3 remixes exist for several other Friday Night Funkin' mods, including the above-mentioned VS Whitty and the most famous part of the Dark Fic Corruption; while uncharted, they are absolutely worth listening to as well.

B-Sides Remixes by Rozebud and JADS.

  • Recommended by: Grayson Bauer
  • Status: In-Progress (Weeks 1-6 complete, waiting for Week 7 release.)
  • Synopsis: A mod that gives every character pallete swaps and remixes the tracks complete with new note charts. Doubles as a pseudo "Expert" difficulty.
  • Comments: This mod aims to remix the entire track list into new music with new charts as well as giving every character different colors, including the health icons (Ex. Skid and Pump are now orange and white respectively, instead of the other way around.). Said remixes are also Harder Than Hard (They somehow managed to make "M.I.L.F." harder than before.), so play at your own risk. That being said, I really hope this could be implemented into the game proper as like a sort of New Game Plus. The way that both Rosebud and JADS remix the music is absolutely phenomenal. Currently, remixes for Weeks 1-6 have been fully implemented. Remixes for Weeks 7 and beyond likely, but not confirmed as-of-yet. Examples of a playthrough: Weeks 1+2, Week 3, Week 4, Week 5, and Week 6.

Thursday Dusk Corruptin' by The Roblox Disappointment

  • Recommended by: YuriHaru567
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Exactly What It Says on the Tin. Friday Night Funkin, but if Vinesauce corrupted the game.
  • Comments: Words cannot even begin to describe how trippy this game is. The weirdness starts even when you start the game. The Flavor Text at the beginning is all complete gibberish, and the logo on the title screen is glitching. When you finally play the mod, you're treated to all sorts of Sensory Abuse in the form of the vocals and instrumentals constantly changing pitch and volume and switching from one song to another. The graphics aren't immune to this, either. Daddy Dearest and Boyfriend are completely frozen, and in that mod's version of "Bopeebo" (renamed "Boboobo"), instead of doing his V-Sign, Boyfriend does his death animation.

VS Banjo and Kazooie by Mr.M0isty

  • Recommended by: YuriHaru567
  • Status: Dead
  • Crossover With: Banjo-Kazooie
  • Synopsis: Girlfriend is trapped inside of Gruntilda's lair, and it's up to Boyfriend to rescue her. However, he must get Banjo and Kazooie's help first.
  • Comments: To anyone who has ever played Banjo-Kazooie before, you're gonna love this mod. There is only one song so far (with the Leitmotif of Spiral Mountain), but it utilizes the soundfont of the original N64 games, with some FNF flair added to it. The graphics are also very eye-catching, with Boyfriend and Banjo having a rap battle atop Spiral Mountain, while Kazooie is just headbanging to the music on some custom speakers (and giggling whenever Boyfriend misses a note).

Vs. Henchman / Background Boogie by Zavemann

  • Recommended by: Blade84
  • Status: In-Progress
  • Synopsis: Mommy Mearest has challenged you to a rematch, but is fashionably late to your duels sequel. After an hour (or something like that- your watch doesn't work (Or exist)), a henchman steps forward to wrap things up.
It would be a shame not to make use of this sick setup, so you challenge the henchman instead!.. and as chance would have it, this henchman happens to know his stuff!
Who will prevail in this spontaneous showdown? Will this freeforming foe get a jump start by taking you down? There's only one way to find out!
  • Comments: A surprisingly well-made mod for someone who was just a background character originally. This mod goes to take what was a standard Henchman, and gave him a LOT of snazzy personality, and even a voice of his own too. The mod only has one song completed so far, but it's quite a banger. If you want to see and take on an Ascended Extra background character, this is the mod for you. And according to the creator, more weeks like this focusing on background and unused characters will be made as a part of a series: FNF - Flipside. Stay tuned for more info on this unique mod!

Starving Artist by Rebecca Doodles, Ash, Seberster and Sand Planet

  • Recommended by: Kingvideogames
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A mod about Rebecca [23], a "Starving Artist" clinging to the idea of becoming a cool popular cartoonist. One that her parents could be proud of. Does she accomplish her goal??? Find out in this mod.
  • Comments: One of the more depressing mods out there. It's a well done and animated mod with the player getting more and more uncomfortable with how Rebecca degrades throughout the songs, desperate just to earn some extra money to fulfill her dream. The music is great, perfectly capturing the feeling of desperation and manic energy coming from Rebecca as her mental state takes a toll with each loss. If you're in the mood for a more unconventional mod, this is a easy recommendation.

THE PISSED FUCKING MUMMY MOD by Banbuds, AnthemOverload, HyperSAM, Fidy 50, OneilR, Jecaris, and DEAD SKULLXX

  • Recommended by: Spinycemb
  • Status : Complete
  • Synopsis : Boyfriend and Girlfriend, while exploring a pyramid tomb, discover one of the saddest, maddest creatures in existence; A mummy named Izotope, who is constantly being drawn and erased by his creator in fits of boredom and indecisiveness. And so, Boyfriend does the best possible thing and agitates the hell out of him by singing with him.
  • Comments: Created for the Funk Jam, this mod is pure comedy, with its only attempts to take itself seriously being to make songs and animations that sell the character immediately (And even then, it's clear the composers were having fun with the voice samples they were given). With three main songs, "Hieroglyphic Asshole", "Pharoah Fury", and "Midlife Tantrum", as well as the bonus song "Izofunk", there's enough content to constitute a full week and then some.

Tails Gets Trolled by Echolocated, Bepixel, Hooda the Antagonist, Nebula_Zuora and mc83ch5

  • Recommended by: The Traveller
  • Status: In-Progress
  • Synopsis: Enter the universe of Tails Gets Trolled as an antagonist of the story, trolling Tails and others in this wacky, unpredictable story to be had. This mod is based around the character Tails, the titular character of the series, and his shenanigans involving his dealings with being trolled by the Trolls.
  • Comments: This mod doesn't take itself seriously in the slighest, but it's still a very high-quality mod. Based off of the...comic, Tails Gets Trolled, the mod is Stylistic Suck incarnate. It's honestly weird to say Tails is the best-drawn in the mod (Girlfriend, ma'am, are you okay?), Boyfriend looking particuarly goofy. But the single song the Demo comes with, Talentless Fox, is a fantastic jam with a good chart and some Genesis sound effects in the background. It may not look like much, but this mod is like a beautiful car crash in slow motion. You just can't look away.

FNF: Cliff Clash by AutidRoll716 and too many others to list

  • Recommended by: Cronosonic
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: A crossover with Celeste, where Boyfriend and Girlfriend travel up the mountain, and sing with Madeline and Badeline a few times.
  • Comments: It's 4 songs and 1 bonus song, sure, but for the most part it's incredibly wholesome - Boyfriend just wants to sing with Madeline, and the only trouble is when Badeline starts being a pest and he challenges her to make her go away, but otherwise it's all implied to be parallel to the story of Celeste, and the final main song is implied to not even be a contest, but a full duet as Boyfriend helps Madeline accept her inner self and find the confidence to scale the mountain. And the duel with Badeline has its own unique mechanic as she tries to change around Boyfriend's arrows to throw you off. Also, the songs are based on the soundtrack of Celeste, and they are all bangers.

VS LongestSoloEver by Sam H, Longest Solo Ever, Kerebuu and others

  • Recommended by: PicoTropes
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: Face off against the guitar man himself in "Vs. Longest Solo Ever", a guitar hero Friday Night Funkin' Mod. This mod includes a mix of regular rapping and Guitar Hero like gameplay.
  • Comments: There is one full week in this mod, as well as four bonus songs. It mainly focuses on BF and GF getting guitar lessons from Dean / Longest Solo Ever himself, with the action getting more intense as time goes on. The songs really live up to their names, each making good use of the rock theme of the mod and providing a tough yet fair challenge to anyone. One of the bonus songs also features a guest appearance courtesy of Sunday, with Dean being the playable character for that song.

The Funkin' Files (formerly Friday Night Funkin': The Walten Files) by Froakii

  • Recommended by: PicoTropes
  • Status: In-Progress
  • Synopsis: What if The Walten Files and Friday Night Funkin' were connected? Introducing a new mod that combines the Walten Files' story and Friday Night Funkin's gameplay to create a new experience.
  • Comments: This mod combines the horror aesthetic and storyline of The Walten Files with the gameplay experiences of Friday Night Funkin' together into one enjoyable experience. The current demo contains the first two major "tapes" of the series, as well as the Halloween Episode and Christmas Episode, to play through, as well as a prologue to explain how BF and GF ended up in the Walten Files universe in the first place. The mod itself doesn't stray from the same horror factor as the original series, and also contains heavy spoilers for those who have yet to watch those videos.

VS Pac-Man (not to be confused with the already present Friday Night Funkin': Namco Museum) by GhostBunBun and lostinstruments

  • Recommended by: PicoTropes
  • Status: Complete
  • Synopsis: THE PAC IS BACK!! (for real this time!!) Uh oh, Daddy Dearest has trapped Boyfriend and Girlfriend inside a Pac-Man arcade cabinet! What wacky hijinks will ensue now!? (Rapping probably)
  • Comments: This mod is mainly a crossover with video game star Pac-Man, with 3 songs featuring him, Ms. Pac-Man and the four ghosts as they sing against Boyfriend and Girlfriend, who had ended up being warped inside the arcade machine via Daddy Dearest's intervention. There are also five bonus songs that include crossovers with other Pac-Man media, as well as a guest appearance by Taizo.

Friday Night Funkin': Corruption Takeover by PieDaDude and others

  • Recommended by: PicoTropes
  • Status: In-Progress
  • Synopsis: After a long way, you did it! You made them accept you on their dearest family yahoo!!! Time to celebrate! Until a familiar face reappears from the shadows to destroy everything. Now It's your turn to help him complete his objective. (Quoted from the GameJolt page)
  • Comments: This is an alternate take on Friday Night Funkin': Corruption and a recursive mod of it, which is focused on revamping several parts of the storyline, as well as adding new content, as an option for people to play if they don't like the current direction the original mod is going in. The current demo has the prologue and the first "hour" with Pico, while the second hour with Nene and Skid and the first side-story with Whitty and Tabi are yet to be added and finished.

FNF: Arcade Archives (formerly VS Evil Otto) by Stash Club and others

  • Recommended by: HighSpeedTroper
  • Status: In-Progress
  • Synopsis: BF finds himself in the Phantom Haunted Arcade, where he faces many strange entities and urban legends.
  • Comments: This mod, originally being solely about Evil Otto, focuses on Boyfriend going up against a wide array of arcade-related monsters and oddities, with creepy arcade legends like Polybius and Sinistar, creepypasta-esque monsters based on Pac-Man and Dig Dug, and the odd regular, such as Turbo and Scott The Woz.

Friday Night Funkin' WITH LYRICS

Friday Night Funkin WITH LYRICS by RecD
  • Recommended by: PetrarchEleven
  • Synopsis: What was once simply adding lyrics to the various songs in Friday Night Funkin has turned into a story rife with Alternative Character Interpretation and a surprising amount of depth, shining new lights on the cast as a whole. While it doesn't include every song (Bopebo, Fresh, Philly Nice, High, and the entirety of Week 5 are absent), it does enough to almost work as its own canon.
  • Comments: RecD's take on Friday Night Funkin is honestly a fun listen and fills in some gaps on what happens after some of the songs in question, also including references and cameos to Pico and Spooky Month. RecD even provides their own unique take on Whitty's week, giving some insight as to why he and The Boyfriend square off.

Lemon Monster Song Covers/Remixes (Monster and Winter Horrorland) by log

  • Recommended by: Bruhmpex
  • Synopsis: As the titles say, these are simply remixes of the songs from the Lemon Monster with covered vocals by log himself. The main difference here is that the Boyfriend's verses are instead filled in with additional lines from Monster.
  • Comments: log manages to combine both lovely, haunting remixes with his fantastic singing to make these some very high-quality takes on the original songs. While his voice is notably younger-sounding than bassetfilms', he also manages to make Monster sound even more twisted and insane than before. Alongside this, not only are the new lyrics perfect additions on their own, but they also stay in character the whole time, being worded just as disturbingly as - if not even more than - the regular lines. Among the various remixes and covers out there, these are easily a few of the most notable for their sheer quality.

Friday Night Funkin' the Musical by RandomEncounters (feat. FamilyJules & Adriana Figueroa)

  • Recommended by: Tropers/998TheNewOrchestra
  • Synopsis: As the title suggests, this video takes the source material, and creates an original song out of the plot, with Boyfriend and Girlfriend just trying to enjoy their date, but the parents intervening.
  • Comments: Yet another poppin' song from the Random Encounters team. Everyone involved in the performance gives 110%, the lyrics are extremely well-written, and by the end of the song, with the vocals of everyone all singing together, it becomes beautifully chaotic, befitting the nature of the game itself.

Father Feud by Helmyir

  • Recommended by: ruff1298
  • Sypnosis: A reimagining of Dad Battle, where aside from rapping, Daddy Dearest and the Boyfriend duel every almost every single conceivable fashion, such as arm wrestling, basketball, bullfighting (with Daddy Dearest as the bull and the Boyfriend as the matador), drinking shots, and jousting in full-plate armor. All the while, the Girlfriend can do little but watch in confusion and increasing exasperation at the antics of her father and her beloved.
  • Comments: This video has so much going for it, from the more realistic and original styles of the characters with extra details like Daddy Dearest's jewelry and the Girlfriend's stockings and arm gloves; the neon rave-light backgrounds that pulse with the beat; and the sheer ridiculousness and creativity of Daddy Dearest's and the Boyfriend's battles in this long-running feud. It's cliche, but it really must be seen and listened to for the full experience.

God Eater Big Mashup by Pap7ru 5

  • Recommended by: Bruhmpex
  • Synopsis: A 16-character mashup featuring vocals from God Eater, Ballistic, Madness, Manifest, Opheebop, run, A.G.O.T.I., B-Side Blammed, Beat Streets Blammed, Genocide, Foolhardy, Boxing Match, Gospel, Zavodila, Stress, and Tordbot, all set to God Eater's instrumental.
  • Comments: If you've been looking for the FNF mashup to end all mashups, this is going to be the video for you. Featuring a huge portion of the fandom's most influential mods, right down to songs from its most popular full-game edit and joke week, this video mashes them all up into what feels like a sort of love letter to the fandom and its modding community. It's not just one after the other, either; every character gets multiple chances to add to the song, and many of them even perform duets with others. If you're a big fan of the modding community, this one's a great listen.

Friday Night Funkin' Logic

Friday Night Funkin’ Logic by GameToons
  • Recommended by: mariobroultimate
  • Synopsis: From the creators of Among Us Logic, Player decides to take a break from Among Us after so many losses and try out the hip new game, Friday Night Funkin’. There, he meets Girlfriend, who gets into a relationship with him, and supports him as he challenges a variety of opponents, both canon and in mods. Will Player be able to defeat all of them and become champion?
  • Comments: If you’ve watched Among Us Logic, you know Player and his constant struggles to win at a game. All the humor and charm from that series is carried over here, with all of the characters being very charming and lovable. However, what makes this series in particular stand out is Player himself. Unlike Among Us Logic and other GameToons series where he is portrayed as a Loser Protagonist who no matter how much effort he puts in, can never win a single game, here he’s taken a level in badass. Now able to outrap every opponent he faces with little to no struggle. He even beat Matt! MATT!!! It’s almost as if Player was born for this kind of game, and he actually has hope of winning. I’m certainly rooting for him. If you’re looking for extremely entertaining animations based on your favorite FNF characters, this is the series for you!

VS Whitty Fire Fight by Chino's Animated

  • Recommended by: Pico Tropes
  • Synopsis: "BF Challenges Whitty to a fight between flame-throwers." (Part 1) / "Whitty goes Ballistic as BF and GF find a way to stop him from blowing up." (Part 2) / "Whitty and Updike confront each other, and they've both got backup." (Part 3)
  • Comments: This is a recursive animation based on the Vs Whitty mod, taking the original craziness and ramping it up with direct combat involved between characters. The first two parts focus on a pretty heated conflict between BF and Whitty, while the third and final one focuses on Whitty heading to confront Updike, with the help of Carol and Sunday. Overall, this is a great set of animations and well worth the watch.
