"Greetings! Sorry for the inconvenience, are you interested in joining?"
Sarvente, Parish
Mid-Fight Masses was a Friday Night Funkin' Game Mod by Dokki.doodlez. as the artist, Mike Geno as the composer, and kuroao_anomal as the coder and released on March 20th, 2021.

When Boyfriend and Girlfriend enter a church asking to use the restroom, the local nun asks if they would be interested in joining. Things quickly escalate...

On April 30th 2021, a late update for April Fools' Day would introduce a new character: Selever, Sarvente and Ruv’s son from an Alternate Universe.

Unfortunately, due to poor reception the mod has received because of its charts and engine issues, and the harassment Dokki.doodlez got because of it, she has left the Friday Night Funkin' community and indefinitely ceased development of the mod, which has since been marked as private on GameBanana. See the Trivia page for more details.

Exactly one year after the game's release, just like how Whitty got a date week to (initially) serve as a Grand Finale to his modnote , a group of dedicated Mid-Fight Masses fans released a date week featuring Sarvente and Ruv called Date Night Masses to serve as a Grand Finale to the mod, with Mike Geno's support and involvement as a composer.

Song list: (Sung by:)

  1. Parish (Sarvente)
  2. Worship (Sarvente)
  3. Zavodila (Ruvyzvat)
  4. Gospel (Demon Sarvente) (Hard/Alt Mode Exclusive)

Bonus Song

  1. Casanova (Selever)

Mid-Fight Masses contains examples of...

  • Affectionate Nickname: Ruvyzvat calls Sarvente "Sarv", and likewise, Sarvente calls Ruvyzvat "Ruv".
  • The Ageless: Both (canon) opponents due to being immortal. Sarvente has been immortal for centuries, and spend most of her life as a child unable to age properly due to an unfulfilled childhood which only got fulfilled when she met and became friends with Ruv who was also a child at that time. Meanwhile, Ruv's vow with Sarvente makes him immortal and unable to age.
  • All There in the Manual: Considering these are original characters made by Dokki.doodlez way before FNF was born, you could find a ton more backstory and lore in their social media pages.
  • Bilingual Bonus: The word 'Zavodila' (заводила) is a borderline untranslatable Russian word that means 'someone who starts up things and gains traction through pure goodwill'. Its best equivalent would be 'firestarter'; a motivator of others.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Sarv puts on a cheerful and bubbly demeanor when converting others to the church but when faced with a "no" or being defeated in a singing battle is when her mask starts to drop.
  • Blood-Stained Glass Windows: The entire mod takes place inside a church.
  • The Casanova: Selever, if the title of his song is anything to go off of. That, or he's a Casanova Wannabe.
  • Couch Gag: The mod actually has new phrases, most relating to the mod itself. "Swagshit—moneymoney" is the only opening line from the vanilla game that appears in this mod. You can see the new opening lines on the Quotes page.
  • Cross-Popping Veins: A unique example happens in Selever's left pose where he has one on his cheek.
  • Declaration of Protection: Ruv's vow to Sarvente can be seen as this, as it basically involves him protecting her in exchange for Immortality. Even though Sarvente's a demon queen capable of warping reality, Ruv sticks with her anyways as she will die if either one of them broke their vow.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: For simply trying to find a restroom in the church, Sarvente challenges Boyfriend to a sing-off to convince him and Girlfriend to join the church. When that fails, she tags Ruv in to take care of them and when he failed, she transforms into a demon and warps reality because she lost singing battles to Boyfriend.
  • The Dreaded: Ruv is introduced as a cold, merciless hitman who doesn't have much to say and simply sees eliminating Boyfriend and Girlfriend as just part of business. He struck genuine fear in Boyfriend at the end of his speech and another indicator that you shouldn't mess with him is that just voice alone gets Girlfriend shaking in her boots.note  And prior to his introduction, during Sarvente's songs, you can see a poster in the background with his face on it and "BEWARE" written in big letters to drive the point home.
  • Easy-Mode Mockery: You can only play "Gospel" on Hard or Alt mode, meaning it is inaccessable on Easy or Normal without the use of modification. Same goes for "Casanova", but that's justified by the fact that it was part of a late April Fools' update.
  • Flipping the Bird: Selever does this in most of his animations with the exception of his left pose.
  • Foreshadowing: A BEWARE poster featuring Ruv can be seen in the church background long before he appears. A similar poster hints at Rasazy's appearance at the end of the mod.
  • Forgotten First Meeting: According to the mod's artist, Ruv and Sarv met as children and promised to meet again as adults, but neither of them remember the specifics. This meeting caused Sarvente to be able to age properly, while Ruv's wears one of Sarvente's hair ribbons as an eyepatch.
  • Half-Human Hybrid: Selever and Rasazy are the son of Sarvente (a demon disguised as a nun) and Ruvyzat (a human hitman) from an Alternate Universe.
  • Harder Than Hard: The Alt difficulty.
  • Holy Pipe Organ: Sarvente's voice sounds like a cross between the high notes of a pipe organ and a One-Woman Wail, fitting for a nun singing in a church.
  • Husky Russkie: Played With for Ruv, the Russian criminal. While his stickman-like design means he has a seemingly normal build, he's capable of carrying Sarvente with one hand, to which Sarvente is 194 Kilograms, or over 427 pounds. He's also about nine feet tall with just his legs bent (meanwhile Sarv is 7'5") and can shake an entire building and cause damage to it with his voice with absolutely no need to plug a microphone into an amp let alone have the mic on. Doing that would require around 125 to 150 decibels, so he can quite literally very well break you by just talking should he choose to.
  • Interface Screw: In "Zavodila", Ruv sings so loud that the entire screen shakes and by extension your note chart. And in "Gospel", the arrows on the note charts are replaced by crosses.
  • Leaning on the Fourth Wall: The BANNED poster on Sarvente's side of the screen features the creators of the mod.
  • Male Might, Female Finesse: Although both Sarvente and Ruv have a tendency to spam strings of notes, Sarv plays it off more elegantly with a sweet airy synth-like voice and tends to use hold notes more frequently, while Ruv doesn't hold any punches, is capable of shaking the entire church with his voice, and doesn't have any hold notes on his side of the chart.
  • Meaningful Background Event: During "Parish", the camera occasionally shifts to a pillar that has a poster of Ruv with "BEWARE!" written below it. Guess who shows up as your opponent for the third song?
  • Naughty Nuns: Sarvente, who wears a fetishized nun outfit with Zettai Ryouiki.
  • No Ending: The mod is open-ended and explicitly has no canon ending.
  • No-Nonsense Nemesis: Ruv doesn't mince words much once he's done introducing himself. He lets Boyfriend know that if he loses, Ruv will beat the seven shades of tar out of him and Girlfriend for making a fool of Sarvente and the church.
  • Not Good with Rejection: Sarvente is a non-romantic example. She goes from very friendly to frustrated to angry when the couple show no interest in joining.
  • Nun Too Holy: Again, Sarvente.
  • Oh, Crap!: When Ruv threatens to harm Boyfriend and Girlfriend is what leaves Boyfriend aghast and speechless for once.
  • One-Winged Angel: Sarvente fulfills this if you beat Ruv on higher difficulties. In this case, she reveals herself to be a winged demon in her final song, "Gospel".
  • Patchwork Kids: Played with in regards to Selever. While he shares a few physical traits with his parents, most notably having Sarvente’s demonic traits, the resemblance is more in his music than his appearance, with “Casanova” sounding like a mashup of Sarvente and Ruv’s songs.
  • Perpetual Frowner: Ruv. The reason for this is that it physically hurts him to smile. Whenever he DOES smile, it ends up looking either forced or murderous.
  • Potty Emergency: The plot is kicked off by Boyfriend and Girlfriend walking into the church looking for a bathroom.
  • Satan: Sarvente's demon form is alternately referred to as "Lucifer Sarvente" and is stated per Word of God to have ruled over Hell since a very young age, but she eventually left the throne as part of her Heel–Face Turn.
  • Statuesque Stunner: Sarvente is a rather cute nun, her leotard in demon form shows off her thighs and Cleavage Window, and she is revealed to be 7 feet 5 inches tall.
  • Stick Figure Animation: Sarvente and Ruv are stick figures, drawn with more intricate clothing than most, but still appearing more simplistic than a lot of human characters.
  • Stronger Than They Look: Sarvente and Ruv may not look bulky, but they're capable of carrying each other when they're both pretty heavynote . While Dokki has stated that most of their mass is from their muscles, they aren't shown because of their stickmen designs.
  • The Computer Is a Cheating Bastard: Zavodila initially required the player to hit three arrow keys at once to get a perfect score, something not supported by the game's engine. This was a developer oversight that was corrected in an update, which added the functionality in with an engine overhaul and made the chart slightly easier to execute.
  • True Final Boss: If you beat Ruv's song on Hard or Alt mode, Sarvente steps back in after having caught her breath for one final round.
  • Villainous Breakdown: Sarvente's True Final Boss level has her turn into a demon and, as usual for most mods, unleash a very difficult song.
