Jealous haters out there, high-five! I see you!
"No one's gonna buy this." Bitch, I believe you!
Cute as all hell, in a literal sense,
A bitter pretense,
But the views are all tell, no show, dollars and cents
Don't mean nada to the queen of "Sayonara"
Scythe and other super radical toys to tear your heart
Apart at the seams, still the killer of your dreams!
Slip your soul into my pocket, then I flee the scene! (It's like that.)

The apprentice of the Grim Reaper. Mori Calliope is a scythe swinging reaper, rapper, and workaholic business lady getting shit done. Calli works hard on her music in addition to her streaming. Seemingly cool and aloof, but is actually a big softie. She often has chatting streams, enjoys a good drink often, and likes to stream RPG Maker games.

In April 2022, she announced that she had signed with Universal Music Group, making her the first idol from hololive to be signed to a major record label.

Associated characters: J-chad (manager), Calvin Morrison aka. C-MAN/YUNG SH1N1GAM1 B01 (Spear Counterpart), Mama Mori

    #-E
  • 420, Blaze It: Her speedrun of Jump King would have put her placement at 420th, a joke that was not lost on her. She realized that she is technically 421st but accepted it as being close enough.
  • Abandoned Catchphrase: Initially said "tee-hee" during her early days. She obviously stopped doing this immediately, as she notes in her first anniversary stream.
"I remember the 'tee-hee', dropped that shit real quick. Like a hot potato!"
  • The Ace:
    • The most musically talented out of EN, being an accomplished rapper and singer, playing a multitude of instruments, as well as constantly composing her own original songs. While EN has quite a few skilled singers like Gura, Kiara, IRyS, and Bae, none of them demonstrate Calli's sheer versatility of being a Renaissance Man in music production. The ultimate showing of this is when Calli managed to sign a deal with Universal Music Group, the biggest achievement ever of her music career.
    • During her first 3D live performance at the "Link Your Wish" Hololive festival, Calli's mouth movements didn't match what she was saying. However, Calli was singing live; the disconnect happened because she was rapping too fast for the face tracking sensors.
    • While not up to Ina's level, Calli is also quite a talented artist in her own right, having drawn her senpais like Marine.
    • Subverted when it comes to gaming, however, as she herself has admitted that her abilities in that department are rather lacking, and therefore caused her quite a lot of frustration when playing high-skill titles like Doom Eternal or Jump King. Not that she'd let that stop her, anyhow.
  • The Ageless: As the Anthropomorphic Personification of death, Calli technically has no age and is functionally immortal. She claims to have existed since mortals first started dying. Her age is listed as "No", and it's only implied that she gets older because the human body she chooses to inhabit is getting older, not her. She'll have to get a new human vessel some day in the distant future, which would presumably change her appearance, but Calli herself is functionally immortal.
  • Ain't Too Proud to Beg: Played for laughs. She resorted to having a dedicated stream of nothing but begging Atlus for permission to stream Persona 3 FES, doing nothing but the aforesaid begging for almost ninety minutes. The begging eventually worked and Atlus actually sponsored a stream of Persona 3 Portable.
  • The Alcoholic:
    • In almost every stream, she pops open a bottle of the cheapest wine she can get from the convenience store and chugs it straight from the bottle. Her most well-known Catchphrase is "Guh", which is an onomontopeia of the sound she makes after taking a drink. She keeps a wine glass around for decoration, but doesn't use it. According to her, the stuff tastes awful, but she's not letting that stop her.
    • According to her, a few friends commented on her early streams, making her look like she had a serious drinking problem. In reality, she's not a heavy drinker, commenting that it was mostly due to nerves. In response, she cut down on how often she drinks alcohol on-stream, and points out that she's drinking water so viewers don't worry about her. While she isn't as heavy of a drinker as she used to be, she openly admits to drinking beer during collab streams, and her free talk streams are often labeled as "wine parties".
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Calli has a bit of a reputation for being a Chick Magnet among her fellow streamers, usually as a result of her painting the outward image of herself as a hip "bad boy" reaper, both in her streams and her music. Notably, several Hololive JP talent invokedhave expressed their attraction to her. Polka particularly loves her for her foul-mouthed demeanor, saying she wants to marry a woman like Calli, whereas Suisei found herself infatuated with her due to her cool attitude and good looks, on top of reciting lyrics from her music. Subaru also mentioned taking a liking to Calli, which caused an influx of angry chats from Kiara, who would then go on an angry tirade in their next collab about how betrayed she felt (jokingly, of course).
  • Alternate Character Reading: Her given name was originally written in Japanese as 美声, however, since reading this as "Kariope" required the use of unorthodox character readings, her name was later retconned to be written in katakana to make it easier to read her name or search for it on the internet.
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents:
    • Her "reaper mother" has told her that they used her music in a spin class, and Calliope has asked her not to tell them that she was the person who wrote it. She has also met Kiara and is very fond of her and the relationship she has with Calliope, frequently asking her daughter how Kiara is doing and what she's up to.
    • She revealed during a post stream Superchat readout that "Papa Reaper", her father, collects used bootleg anime figures, and will regularly send her pictures of whatever new figure he has found for his collection.
  • Apologizes a Lot: She's very self-conscious about her image to the point of never wanting to come off as abrasive, so she almost always apologizes whenever she makes a joke that can be taken negatively. On one occasion, she even apologized for laughing too hard at a webcomic containing a sex joke.
  • April Fools' Day: Released an EP as her Spear Counterpart Calvin Morrison, also known as "C-Man" in 2022 on this day ("Calvin" is just Calli with her voice pitched lower to sound masculine). The tracks are intentionally silly Affectionate Parodies of Boastful Rap, with generic gangsta rap themes and corny rhyme schemes. The first one sees "Calvin" blissfully unaware that "his" stage name sounds like something else entirely, while in the second one, "he" collabs with Hayko (fellow EN talent Hakos Baelz's own Spear Counterpart), but the two wind up getting into a fight mid-song.
  • Ascended Fanboy: Given that Suisei is one of her inspirations when she joined hololive, and the latter responded in kind, they would eventually collaborate together in two songs, Wicked on Suisei's album and CapSule on hers.
  • Audience Participation: During her debut stream, Calli gave the live chat a choice between her fanbase being called either "deadbeats" or "calliopeople". The chat overwhelmingly chose the former.
  • Authority Sounds Deep: She is the apprentice of The Grim Reaper and has a deep Tomboyish Voice.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other:
    • For as big of a tsundere as she is towards Kiara, there's no shortage of moments that show that she greatly appreciates and values their friendship, such as going on a spa trip and an expensive hotel trip with her. She's also not above retweeting fanart shipping her with Kiara, and doesn't hesitate to defend Kiara or their relationship when either is called into question.
Calli: (reading a superchat) "This is my first akasupa and I'm giving it after watching a clip of your early Kiara collabs, I'm glad you're friends now." (chuckles) What do you mean?! I love Kiara!
    • During the time leading up to Kiara's departure from Japan, Kiara was rather upset that she had to leave, especially the karaoke stream they had together, where Calli was clearly just as sad as Kiara was. When singing a song about hating to leave, Kiara couldn't make it all the way through the song and broke down crying. Calli hugged Kiara and tried her best to comfort her, telling Kiara that they'll be together again and have fun together again in the future.
  • Badass Boast: Beside the multitude of badass lines featuring in her raps, a more comedic one occurred during the holoMyth Jackbox collab. During Quiplash, she was asked for "three easy ways to look tough". Her three answers? "Mo", "Ri", "Calliope". (Her subsequent reaction seems to imply that she may have misunderstood the question somehow, but the truth of the matter may forever remain a mystery.)
  • Badass Teacher: She went into more detail on her day job after having a rough day, which caused her to act extremely goofy on stream to blow off stress. According to her, she teaches very young reapers how to swing their scythes (theorized by many to stand for for giving English language classes in Japan). This is best seen during her English teaching streams, where she shows herself to be very effective at teaching, her calm and patient mannerisms making it very clear that she has ample experience. Even outside of said streams, she is able to brilliantly interact with talents who speak English poorly, as shown, for example, in her Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes stream with Korone, in which she manages to piece together the dog girl's mangled attempts at English. For the Badass part, she is also a hardcore rapping Grim Reaper, for the Cool part... how many people will dedicate a stream to teaching someone swears?
  • Been There, Shaped History: In her Story Video Callie is revealed to have meet Amelia when the latter was just a little girl. Callie was originally there to reap Ame's soul when she was supposed to die from her time machine exploding, only to reflexively save her instead. In short it's thanks to Callie that the Amelia Watson we know and love today is even alive.
  • Beneath the Mask: She tries to present herself as a cute and graceful reaper-in-training before literally saying "fuck it" during her first rap and revealing what she calls her real self. While she still tries to maintain her image, it tends to falter when she gets annoyed.
  • Berserk Button:
    • She hates it when people use the word "delicious" to describe anything other than food. Calli has gone so far as to make a hit list, saying that she will personally strangle anyone who calls napping "delicious" as soon as she came off of her hiatus.
    • Calli has come to begrudgingly accept that she's being called "Dad" by the hololive fanbase at large, and there's nothing she can do to stop that. However, during a livestream of Spiritfarer, Calli admits that she'd rather be called "Dad" than "onee-san" or "Mommy". The latter makes Calli shudder with a "No. Just… No" Reaction, indicating that the very idea makes her squirm.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Despite her friendly demeanor most of the time, she can and will demonstrate why she is a reaper when incredibly focused/tilted if her Doom Eternal playthrough is anything to go by.
  • Big Guy, Little Guy: Calli's fondness for short people has had her forming prominent duos with other short girls.
    • With Gura, Calli has a particular closeness towards often acting as an encouraging figure to the cheeky Gura like a Cool Big Sis and a very frequent collab partner.
    • With Bae, with the two of them being considered 'sisters' due to sharing the same rigger. Bae calls and treats Calli as a big sister, and constantly looks up to her, similarly Calli likes to guide and support Bae or fool around with her for kicks.
    • With Kobo, who took to calling her and Kiara her parents until Calli had to tell Kobo she's adopted. Kobo immediately started calling Calli "uncle dad", while Calli considers Kobo her son.
    • Calli made fast friends with all of Advent once they debuted, but seems to have a particular affection for Koseki Bijou; Bijou's audition for hololive included a self-made Undertale mod that swapped out Sans for Calli, who was incredibly flattered. The two have collabed several times since; their teamup was quickly dubbed "Tombstone."
  • Big "NO!":
  • Bilingual Backfire: Invoked this on Pekora and Mel in a game of reversi when the former assured the latter that it would be an easy win since Calli didn't seem to know how the game works, while somehow forgetting that the reaper is bilingual and had been talking to them in Japanese the whole time.
  • Bilingual Bonus:
    • Her music often features a mix of English and Japanese lyrics. In particular is her debut hit "Excuse My Rudeness But Could You Please RIP" which uses the word "DIE" in place of the Japanese word "dai", such as in "Sugoi DIE-suki!" Translation and "Donmai DIE-joubu!" Translation. In addition, she also raps, "You reap what you fucking SEISO" Explanation
    • Officially, her family name means "forest" in Japanese, and is written using the same kanji. However, "mori" is also Latin for "death", which is Exactly What It Says on the Tin.
  • Birds of a Feather: Calli and Suisei greatly admire each other for their respective singing prowess, with Calli mentioning on Trash Taste that Suisei is one of her two favourite senpai (the other being AZKi), and Suisei affectionately replying to Calli's chat encouragements with "I love you!". Their original songs also sometimes touch upon the same subject, with "GHOST" and "Red" both expressing the feeling of making a lasting impression in the VTuber scene.
  • Blade Below the Shoulder: Her Halloween nurse costume has an Ash Williams-style chainsaw for a right hand.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: The title track from her first album, UnAlive, deals with her willingness to break the fourth wall, kayfabe, and her lore. It's all because she's still a person underneath the VTuber guise and can't be perfect all the time.
  • Brown Note: Invoked several times.
    • She owns a recorder and refers to it as Hell's own instrument, playing it deliberately badly. It ended up having the opposite effect from what was intended, and because her fans loved it she ended up having to play it for the entirety of a multi-hour superchat reading stream because she promised a note for every donation. She also sarcastically suggested learning streams for it, which caused recorders to sell out on Amazon Japan.
    • For the purposes of track mixing, she had also ordered a harmonica and several kazoos, all of which she enthusiastically plays terribly, exclaiming how much she hates it before continuing to play. At the time of writing, she is also waiting for a slide whistle and an Aztec death whistle.
    • She has mentioned wanting to sample an actual calliope in order to produce "demented circuscore" music.
  • Butt-Monkey: If Gura isn't the one getting this trope in collab streams, then it's certainly Calli. Just like Gura, she also tends to be a frequent victim of tease and misfortune mainly because of her poor gaming skills. Her streams also frequently have technical issues, and her main source of humor tends to be her being put in embarrassing situations much to her dismay.
  • Call-Back:
    • During the Among Us collab between the Fifth Gen and EN members, Botan says "Excuse me, but did the reaper just RIP?" after noticing that Calli had been killed, referencing Calli's debut track. Polka would also recite the name of the song whenever she had the opportunity to kill Calli.
    • Her "date" with viewers gets rudely interrupted by Ghost Rider towards the end.
    • In Calli's song, "Off With Their Heads", a variation of the hook of "Dead Beats" is brought back. She does it again in "The Grim Reaper Is A Live Streamer", cementing it as something of a motif for Mori.
    • Whenever an instance occurs where Mori has to say, "it's like that", she almost immediately quotes the beginning of "Excuse My Rudeness, But Could You Please RIP?"'s chorus, as that particular line is the first verse's segue to it.
  • The Cameo:
    • She is mentioned in some of Ame's (unused) announcer voice lines for Paladins, where eliminated players are "sent to Calli".
    • She makes a brief appearance during Ironmouse's lore video wherein she is the first to witness the rise of the angels (now demons) in the underworld after they were banished from heaven.
  • Cameo Cluster: Her NEZUMI Scheme music video features appearances from not only fellow Hololive members but also VShojo's Ironmouse.
  • Captain Ersatz: Despite its liberal use, Calli had a bit of a scare when her audience told her that Ghost Rider belongs to the House of Mouse. She then tried to play it off by saying the image she used of him in a previous stream was her own original character, and her chat suggested names such as Ghoul Driver or Gou Strider.
  • Catchphrase: She has so many that she decided to make a BINGO card out of them. But two of them in particular stand out:
    • "Guh." This is an onomatopoeia of the sound she makes after taking a drink, usually straight from a bottle of wine. Considering how often she drinks while on stream, expect to hear this frequently. It's even the free space on the BINGO card for her catch phrases, as if she knows that she can't go one stream without using it.
    • When collabing with others, she often yells "Listen to me!" or "Listen!" Gura notes that Calli is the type of person that will say "Listen" and then have nothing to say. This was confirmed during her Reddit Shitpost Review appearance when Calli told Coco to "Listen!" and she paused to say "I'm listening", only for Calli to admit she didn't have anything to follow up with.
  • Character Development: Off-stream, Calli and Kiara are great friends. On-stream, however, their antics tell a slightly different story. At the start, Calli was very much a Harsh-type Tsundere towards Kiara, refering to her as "kusotori", or "shit bird". Most evident in their first duo Minecraft collab where Kiara's bombardment advances would constantly draw out Calli's harsher side. Fast-forward two months later, Calli is now more of a Sweet-type tsundere, singing more praises of Kiara and treating her much more kindly on-stream (though the sexual advances and intimate suggestions still make Calli cringe).
  • Character Tics: Calli is known to rapidly jitter her eyes around, often appearing like she's trying to look at as many different directions in as short a time as possible. It's often believed that this is because she has multiple monitors to keep track of, and it's most noticeable when she's flustered or stressed.
  • Cigar Chomper: She mentions that she smokes on very select occasions, and when she does, it's with cigars. It's something she picked up from Papa Reaper.
  • Closet Geek: Or at least as much as one can be in an idol agency full of anime girls who play video games on the regular. This foul-mouthed, fire-spitting reaper turns out to be quite a fan of Tabletop RPGs. Specifically with an attachment to World of Darkness.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: Downplayed. As she's gotten more comfortable with streaming and having more comfort in her life, she's started opening up more to her audience as well as letting her natural personality out more. As such, she's revealed a very strange sense of humor. It's joked that she's always some level of drunk due to how loopy she can act, even on an average day that is relatively stress-free (something that she finds Actually Pretty Funny).
Calli: I think it's cute that people keep asking if I'm drunk. I'm not, I'm just like this.
  • Cluster F-Bomb: She's Lady Swears-a-Lot among the EN crew, as she curses far more than anyone else does. She had a River City Girls collab stream with Gura followed later by a stream of Shadowverse in June 2021, and Calli was very liberal with her F-bombs.
  • Color Motif: Initially pink due to her pink hair, but later switches to red. All of her subsequent outfits after her first one have red as part of them, while she even has an original song titled "Red".
  • Comedic Shotacon: During her English Lesson stream with La+, Iroha, and Gura, La+ tries to psych Calli out into saying she's a lolicon, to which she backpedals at the last second, before admitting that she's not into lolis. ...She's into shotas, and by extension, short people.
  • The Comically Serious: She's the most straight-laced of her group, taking on the role of a straight man when in group streams. Much to her dismay, she quite often ends up the Butt-Monkey as a result.
  • Contralto of Strength: She has a deep voice, especially when she raps, and she's the Grim Reaper. She also shows her physical strength by easily defeating Noel and Ina in an arm wrestling match...within seconds.
  • Cool Big Sis: Calli's genial and supportive nature towards her fellow VTubers can be seen as a big sister figure within the Hololive Agency. She especially gives off this vibe to Gura, most evident in their Minecraft collabs, happily explaining stuff like her audio recording process to her.
  • Cool Shades: As part of her theme of being a rapper, she has worn sunglasses on a few occasions.
  • Cool Uncle: She refers to herself as Kobo's "uncle-dad" when the former mentioned that Kiara is like a mother to her, reasoning that since she and the latter are technically not married, she's not actually a father and more like an uncle instead.
  • Cope by Pretending: In light of the events of "Don't Fear The Reaper", it seems likely that her attempts at putting up a tough front as a harsh and stoic bringer of death, or sometimes even a gleeful psychopath who loves killing (like in "Excuse My Rudeness, But Could You Please RIP?"), might be a coping mechanism she uses to deal with her sorrow at seeing so many souls go before their time.
  • The Corruptor: Unintentionally, her frequent use of "goddamn" has rubbed off onto Watame, who finds nothing but joy in using the word.
  • Cordon Bleugh Chef: Calli made some hotdog sushi and posted it to Twitter. The sight of nori seaweed and rice wrapped around hotdog chunks, pickle relish, mustard, and topped with ketchup stirred up some strange reactions.
    Calli: Hello, Japanese people. This is my sushi. Do you like it? :}
Domo.: Mori you're one of the most amazing and talented people I know but what the actual fuck is this
    Calli: The Future.
  • Cowardly Lion: Despite liking horror aesthetics in games — her favorite series is Castlevania and one of her favorite games is Bloodborne — she does not do well when playing actual horror games such as Phasmophobia. She still tries to put on a brave face throughout such experiences and goes through with them, but once something really scares her, her screams can rival Gura's.
  • Crazy-Prepared: She's this for the Hunter: The Vigil campaign; as any good Game Master should be. In just the individual prologue campaigns alone, she prepared several routes and scenarios to anticipate whatever direction the Player Characters would decide to take their character arcs. She even created and named several NPCs for certain situations, though many did not get used in the prologues due to how the scenarios ultimately played out.
  • Cringe Comedy: Her main source of humor revolves around how much she can embarrass herself, such as by saying things in a very stilted manner while cursing at herself under her breath. For example, her second Japanese learning stream included a segment of attempting Duolingo for her less fluent viewers. It turned into a PSA on why it's not a good way to learn Japanese, because she underwent Sanity Slippage at how awful the lessons were. Calli herself admits as much at the end of "HUGE W":
    Cringe is like, my brand.
  • Curiosity Is a Crapshoot: The time she accidentally dosed herself and Mama Reaper with pepper spray. While playing OMORI, she uses pepper spray on a group of enemies to end the battle. Calli says that pepper spray is "no joke" to the deadbeats; she once took some pepper spray out of Mama Reaper's purse, wondering how strong it was. Calli at least had the good sense to spray a small amount into the sink instead of full blast on a person, but the fumes of the spray were so intense that they both went into a coughing fit and had to stay at Granny Reaper's house. Even then, for the next two days, Mama Reaper's house smelled like crisp bell peppers, even with all the windows open.
  • Curtains Match the Window: Pink hair and pink eyes, but in different tones (strawberry pink eyes, bubblegum pink hair
  • Cute, but Cacophonic: She has on several occasions screamed really loud or in a really bizarre way.
  • Cute But Psycho: She makes it quite clear that, as a reaper, she enjoys killing and views not being allowed to do so as a sacrifice she has to make to be an idol. Her raps make this especially clear, as her debut song includes the line "murder is so fucking kawaii (cute)".
  • Cute Clumsy Girl: She tries to remain calm and collected most of the time, but has a lot of technical issues at the user level while streaming due to not being used to it. This causes her a lot of embarrassment. Adding to her clumsiness in later streams is her drinking habit, which has made her quite a bit more accident prone than her peers.
  • Cuteness Proximity:
  • Damn You, Muscle Memory!:
    • While playing Papers, Please, she earned enough money to upgrade her booth, letting her control the deny/confirm stamps with the tab key instead of manually with a mouse. Not being used to this earned her a citation for accidentally turning away a cleared entrant.
    • After so many streams of Elden Ring, she was eager to play Bloodborne, and forgot that she can't jump in that game. It takes her a while to readjust, but not without voicing her frustration.
      Calli: Curse you, muscle memory!
  • D-Cup Distress: While the shapeliest of the group, she has said on stream that she envies Ina and Gura's slimness, suggesting some level of unhappiness with the fact; this mostly stems from her sense of fashion, stating that most clothes she wants to wear would look better on a slimmer figure rather than her buxom self. She has also gone on to complain in a HoloDeath Minecraft stream about the back pains associated with having a large bust, though the specific people she told that to didn't appreciate hearing about it. In her own words, she would prefer to be a flat-chested Tomboy if she could help it.
  • Death Takes a Holiday: "Don't Fear The Reaper" reveals this is the reason why Calli joined Hololive, being allowed a vacation from her Grim Reaper duties by Death-sensei.
  • Deep South: She claims to have spent some time there and while her accent isn't prominent, there are times when she gets excited and will slip into it.
  • Demonic Possession: She claims to be borrowing the human body she presents herself with, as it's a vessel for her spirit. She will sometimes refer to her "host body" in this way, and it's implied that Calli herself is ageless and functionally immortal as the Anthropomorphic Personification of death.
  • Determinator:
    • Watching her Doom Eternal streams reveals that she is not good at the game and plays it with a controller, further making it hard. This doesn't stop her from doggedly trying and trying again until succeeding.
    • Calli absolutely refused to let a terrorist attack kill her guard friends in Papers, Please, so she kept playing December 19th over and over again until she killed all three attackers before they could kill any of the guards.
    • During her Jump King endurance streams, absolutely nothing will stop her from continuing to climb up. Most notably, during New Babe+, her response to falling from the last stage all the way back to the much-hated poison village, losing almost all her progress over the last few streams, was to earn it all back at a furious pace, reaching the final stage, and completing it, in just under three hours. In fact, Calli would end up sinking so many hours into Jump King, running her head against the wall over and over again, that she eventually reached a point where she was so good at the game she could speedrun the entire thing from beginning to end in under 8 minutes.
  • Didn't Think This Through:
    • Whenever she's being teased and thinks she has a reasonable explanation for her behavior, she will start saying "Listen!" in increasing desperation. When someone actually obliges her, she tends to admit that she actually has no excuse or explanation to back it up.
Calli, after accusations of being Anemachi: Well... listen. Listen.
      Coco: I'm listening.
Calli: [Beat] Th-there's nothing after that 'listen'.
    • When she was playing Uno with Kronii, Magni, and Vesper, she tells Magni, who was her Uno partner, to use his 0 card to switch everyone's hand. She immediately regrets it.
Calli: (to Magni) What number you have?
      Magni: I don't have anything.
      Calli: Des! The round one!
      * Desmond plays the 0 card*
      Calli YES!!!
(everyone switches cards, and her hand switches with Kronii's bad hand)
Calli: Wait, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! NO, WAIT A MINUTE, WAIT A MINUTE!!!
  • The Diss Track: Intentionally Inverted with her Reaper vs. Sheep song with Watame. Both of them are building the other up with compliments and hoping the other one wins. Calli even calls it "Anti-diss rap."
How's it hanging, Watamelon, aren't you feeling the heat?
Cuz when it comes to rappin' compliments, I'm the reaper to beat!
Gotta let you know your flow is lookin' so pro and the bars that you're spittin' are fire.
Isn't it funny? They want me to "kill 'em with kindness", I'll never get tired!
  • The Ditz:
  • Does Not Like Spam:
    • Calli hates caffeinated and sugary drinks in general, because of how her body can't process large amounts of caffeine. Drinking too much of them usually leads to messed-up sleep schedules and getting really sick.
    • She has it out for some fruits, though for decidedly less eating-related reasons.
      • She spent part of her debut stream saying how much she hates cantaloupes, and stressing that her name isn't pronounced like it note .
      • She's not a fan of apples, because it reminds her of a bad work experience at a prior job, which is implied to be American restaurant chain Applebee's.
  • Don't Fear the Reaper: Despite her appearance and how she portrays herself in her raps, Mori is friendly to everyone and does care for the well-being of humans. The times she got huge superchat donations, she expressed everyone to "take care of yourselves. It's not your time yet!"
  • Don't You Dare Pity Me!: Played for Laughs. When playing Clubhouse Games 51, she made it abundantly clear that she didn't want Amelia to go easy on her, despite admitting that she's not that good at video games.
  • The Dreaded: In Episode 2 of Calli's Christmas Catastrophe, she enters the underworld as a demon couple tries to antagonize her. When Ollie calls out her name, the demon couple back out knowing her status as the Grim Reaper's apprentice.
  • Drinking Game: She has hosted several with her viewers, usually imposing limits on herself so she doesn't imbibe a dangerous amount of alcohol. Typically, she will have rules that fall in line with whatever game she's playing, but sometimes she will host "secret" drinking games, where the rules are known only to her, and only revealed when her viewers trigger them.
  • Driven by Envy: Encourages a rare positive version in "Holy嫉妬", a Spiritual Sequel to "Off With Their Heads". This time, the takeaway is "if you're jealous of my success, get off your ass and try to outdo me, instead of complaining about it", claiming that envy towards those who had "made it" played a part in her own accomplishments as well.
Recall that back in ages past Your Mori too was that guy
Denouncing anyone winning they worth in gold, with my fist to the sky
I got hypnotized by visions of my own inadequacy
Emphatically got mad at myself and others who were mad at me
  • Drives Like Crazy: As her A Way Out collab with Kiara shows, Calli can be very reckless behind the wheel. She has no problem running people over for fun, and attempted to drive a car at high speed in reverse.
  • Drugs Are Bad: The one time she tried "the Devil's Salad" — a combination of psychosomatic drugs — she had a panic attack and lit her hair on fire. She's never done it since.
  • Drunken Master: Apparently, getting smashed is what really brings out her skills as a lyricist, to the point that she can bang out whole songs in a day.
  • Dub Personality Change: Calli is a sweetheart 24/7, but uses more aggressive language and tone of voice in her solo streams and streams with her genmates. These tendencies are virtually non-existent save for consistent English curse words when she is collabing with JP branch members.
  • Eagleland: Despite her background as The Grim Reaper from the Underworld, she exhibits this characteristic at times, primarily with her shticks as a thickly American-accented Funny Foreigner, as well as with her Sheriff costume. In a Geoguessr collaboration series, she's even chosen to be AZKi's partner for the United States segment.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Calli did a stream reacting to her debut for her one-year anniversary, acting like a Cool Big Sis to her past self. Differences she notes are playing up the innocence and cuteness (more formal, soft-spoken language, a more high-pitched voice, and trying really hard to turn "teehee" into a Signature Laugh), less swearing, more frequent use of Japanese, greater emphasis on Reaper lore, and the absence of "guh". She says she felt a strong need to come across as a more typical idol back then, but has become comfortable over time being herself.
  • Elective Broken Language: Invoked during her Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes collab with Korone. She's fluent in You No Take Candle and is familiar with Korone's Gratuitous English way of describing things. The result is surprisingly more successful bomb defusals than even the members of the Japanese branch, who played the game in their native language.
  • Endearingly Dorky: From her physical appearance and her music, you'd be forgiven for assuming that Calli is a dark, prim and proper type. In actuality, her personality is very goofy and adorable as showcased on her streams.
  • Epic Fail:
    • She once ordered a pair of kazoos, thought they didn't work, then ordered another one. She furiously complained to the chat at the start of a stream about it, only for chat to spam that she had been playing it wrong the whole time — kazoos aren't meant to have air blown through them, you're supposed to hum into them. After Calli tried humming into the kazoo and it worked, she got down on herself over ordering the third one.
Calli: "Hum into the kazoo?" Well fine, hold on then. [Squeak] AH? [Kazoo noises] WHAT THE FUUU— WHAAAAT? [More Kazoo noises] AHHH! I hate this. I hate it so much. I ORDERED ANOTHER KAZOO! Come on, man!
    • In a collaboration stream, she had brought out a beer to drink while playing. Due to not having a bottle opener as well as not wanting to leave her PC, she ended up slamming the beer against the table, causing it to spill out and damage her table in the process.
    • In order to celebrate a subscriber milestone with members, she purchased higher-end liquor than what she normally gets — a properly corked bottle of wine and a bottle of champagne, which she mistook for sparkling wine. Her initial attempts to open the wine ended in failure, as it became clear she had never used a corkscrew before and somehow caused her hand to bleed while opening it. And having never opened champagne, she surprised herself when she popped the cork and nearly spilled it everywhere.
    • During a livestream with Kiara, Calli recalls a tale about treating Kiara to a fancy penthouse suite. She spent two weeks talking with the hotel staff, making accommodations, and was literally a signature away from buying it when she thought "wait, something's wrong". Turns out she misread the yen total — she thought the suite was the equivalent of three thousand American dollars, and realized that it was really thirty thousand, ten times as much as she thought she was going to pay. Thankfully, she was able to back out of the purchase at the last minute.
  • Epic Flail: Her favorite method of dealing death. Kiara correctly deduced it against the alternative answers of Piano Drop and heatstroke by reasoning that this was the most aggressive option.
  • Even the Girls Want Her: Besides the whole thing with Kiara, Calliope has unintentionally managed to charm several of her senpai, including Suisei (who called her "cool and beautiful") and Polka (who greatly admires her penchant for vulgarity).

    F-L
  • Face of a Thug: Despite her intimidating outfit and occuptation as The Grim Reaper in training, she's more of a Paper Tiger who looks intimidating but is a complete softie. A lot of humor in her streams is derived from Calli's attempts to be the "dark, mysterious, brooding edgelord" kind of character that just make her come across as Endearingly Dorky instead.
  • Fangirl:
    • She's a fangirl for multiple senpais from the Japanese branch but specifically cites Kiryu Coco as her biggest inspiration for joining hololive EN and models her own hard work ethic after hers. She also mentions being a fan of the singers of hololive, but explicitly mentions Suisei when she was being interviewed by Trash Taste's podcast.
    • Her favorite list of rappers is too long to list off, but she has a special appreciation for Snoop Dogg to the point she owns a body pillow of him. Because she doesn't smoke the "Devil's Salad", she claims he is responsible for the smoke effect in her stream.
    • When pressed about her favorite YouTube content creators, she mentioned that she was a big fan of Cr1TiKaL and would like to work on something with him, even if it would be on brand for him to make fun of her the entire time. She mentions being a fan of his for at least a decade, and even covered 2019 Guy on an unarchived stream.
    • In terms of games, nothing can top her love of Persona 3. Due to Atlus' restrictions on streaming as well as Cover's need to obtain permissions for broadcasting content, she's not allowed to stream it. But it's such an important game to her that she is willing to dedicate multiple streams to begging Atlus to grant her broadcast permission, including a stream that was literally just her begging Atlus to let her stream the game for ninety minutes.
    • She intentionally scheduled a watch along of The Matrix with Gura on September 2nd because she's a massive fan of Keanu Reeves and wanted to wish him a happy birthday on stream.
    • In a similar vein to Sana with her Pokémon addiction, Calli is a huge fan of FromSoftware games. Most notably, when Elden Ring first came out, she streamed it for a total of twenty-six hours over the first week she was able to.
    • She really likes JoJo's Bizarre Adventure. In addition to quoting multiple parts of the anime series, Calli has done several karaoke streams of just singing JoJo covers. She's also got a pose for her model that's similar to poses made in the show, as well as releasing a short video of her mimicking a Rapid-Fire Fisticuffs Kiai callout, which JoJo frequently shows people using.
  • Fantastic Racism: As a Reaper, she holds an inherent dislike of creatures that cheat death, such as phoenixes, the undead and necromancers. Graveyard Shift, her collab song with BOOGEY VOXX, has her learn to tolerate and befriend the undead by reminding herself she can always reap them later.
  • The Ferryman: Calli says she knows of the Ferryman. It's usually a guy named Steve, but she says he mainly keeps to himself.
  • Fire/Ice Duo: Ends up having this dynamic with Kiara, with their original song "Fire N Ice" depicting Kiara as fire to Calli's ice.
  • Flat "What": While playing Henry Stickmin Series, Calli gets to the famous "Distract" option while escaping from The Wall. While many other idols who played that fail sequence started bopping out to the music, Calli's response was complete bafflement.
Calli: What? How did that work? Huh? ... What?
  • Four Is Death: Alluded to when she notes that four is her favorite number after her twitter got 44,400 followers. Her birthday's on 4/4.
  • Forgetful Jones: Despite her serious and composed on-camera persona, Calli is described as air-headed and forgetful off-camera.
  • Freudian Slip: She is prone to saying some very suggestive things without a second thought or ruminating on the possible interpretations.
Kiara: The only way to stop me (from winning this wheelchair balancing minigame) is to seduce me.
    Calli: Hey, Kiara...unzip your pants?
  • Friend to All Children: Her steady day job before joining Hololive is teaching little reapers, which while very stressful she does enjoy. Upon seeing a child Pigman in the Nether of Minecraft, she began gushing about how cute it was, talking to it, and chasing it, claiming her teacher instincts had activated because of interacting with her students at school. Her use of the F-word instead of the actual word is because she found out children watch her streams, which amuses Gura. For much of the time in the Nether she wonders aloud where the parents and teachers of the Baby mobs are.
  • Funny Background Event: During a drawing stream she mentions and apologizes for a skeleton on a motorcycle driving by and causing a lot of background noise. She mentions this happens at around the same time every day.
  • Funny Foreigner: Invoked with her approach to anime memes. When asked to deliver her best "Ara ara~" she pronounced each individual letter, delivering a robotic "A-R-A-A-R-A". She also ended up pronouncing "Yare yare daze" with English phonetics, turning it into "Yair yair days". Also, while she's perfectly capable of speaking near-accentless Japanese, she's not above speaking Japanese with a thick American accent, similar to a sterotypical foreigner anime character, for a gag.
  • Game Master: She has a knack for playing this role during tabletop RPG collabs, having served this role for Mythbreakers and HoloSALT.
  • Gargle Blaster:
    • Aside from drinking 95% Spirytus on-stream as part of a punishment for speaking English during a Japanese-only review session, she has been on the receiving end of this during her time attending live concerts.
Calli: I had ordered a red wine... but if someone told me that it was grape juice filtered with toilet water I would not have noticed a difference.
    • One of her Drinking Game conditions while playing Ao Oni was to take a sip of "Oni Koroshi" every time she successfully hid from a monster inside a closet. She immediately recoiled from how bad it tasted.
  • Genre Roulette: Calli's musical repertoire spans different genres, including rap, which she discovered in the Underworld.
  • Genre Savvy: Calli displays a deep understanding and appreciation for various media genres, such as mafia movies and anime. This trope emphasizes her knowledge and passion for different forms of entertainment.
  • Genre Throwback: The "Dance Past Midnight" music video intentionally evokes the visuals and designs of early 90's anime openings, specifically Revolutionary Girl Utena. It was even created in a 4:3 aspect ratio.
  • Girls Love Chocolate: Kiara shares that, during their trip together to Hokkaido, Calli would come up to her over the course of the trip and ask for some of her German chocolate (Ritter Sport) to the point where Kiara wasn't able to eat any of it. Not that Kiara minded because she didn't crave for any like she expected and found Calli's newfound love for German chocolate to be very cute.
  • Girls Love Stuffed Animals: There's a few teddy bears on her bed. And she also sleeps with a fox plushie.
  • Got Me Doing It: Similar to Towa, Calli has also inadvertently admitted to being a dad several times due to the constant badgering of the chat and her Open Mouth, Insert Foot tendencies.
  • Graceful in Their Element:
    • One of the few times she isn't a Nervous Wreck is when she is rapping. Not only is she a good singer, but her raps allow her to exude confidence and bravado that she struggles to maintain otherwise. It should be noted however that this only applies to rehearsed raps, as she has admitted to not being all that good at thinking on her feet or being able to freestyle at all. For her part this is a deliberate choice, since she prefers to choose her words carefully and have them be meaningful as opposed to going for easy "hype moments" as are typical of a rap battle, but has been working on improving as she acknowledges that as a valid composition style.
    • She has noted that she is not the most competent at many video games, barring a few she grew up with so that there is some transferable skill. This is evident during her playthrough of Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time, as she is able to get through it much more easily than other games she's played due to being a franchise veteran. She is also, by her own admission, decent at Guilty Gear, but not as good at other fighting games (and even then, only with a fight stick).
    • Her experience with Hunter: The Vigil lets her explain the system and guide her gen-mates through character creation in a very comprehensible manner — a remarkable difference compared to her awkwardness in her Meme Review episode three days earlier.
    • The four prologue sessions of HoloMyth's Hunter: The Vigil campaign where she GM'd for her genmates not only shows that she is a very proficient storyteller and GM but also can confidently roleplay NPCs without a hint of awkwardness that you'd come to expect from Calli, even allowing her to overcome the awkwardness she usually shows from being with Kiara.
  • Gratuitous Japanese: By virtue of living in the underworld directly below Japan, she does know the language, but only at a conversational level, and cannot read kanji all that well. A few of her typical responses or reactions to things will be Japanese words or phrases that she finds particularly fun to say, with "naruhodone" Translation being a noted favorite of hers.
  • The Grim Reaper: Well, she's his apprentice, anyway. Calli is The Ageless, having been a reaper in training since humans were alive, and learns under "Death-sensei" on how to be a good grim reaper.
  • Guilty Pleasure: She was ashamed to admit that she was a fan of Adam Sandler in her younger days, and had a temporary emote of the man himself wearing a wig styled after her own hair, which was later removed after a double feature watchalong of Happy Gilmore and Billy Madison. Her Minecraft horses were also named Adam Saddler and Mr. Steeds.
  • Hartman Hips: When she was working in retail, a customer once described her as having this. To quote Gura, Calli is "dumptrucken".
  • Has a Type:
  • Have I Mentioned I Am a Dwarf Today?: She constantly and insistently mentions being Death, living in the underworld as such.
  • Height Angst: Played with, in that she's already among the tallest female members prior to Council's debut, yet somehow she takes issue with Kronii being taller than her. She comes to terms when realizing that Sana is taller than both.
    Calli: One fucking centimeter taller are you K I D D I N G M E
  • Hell-Bent for Leather: Wears a cape styled like a leather jacket with Spikes of Villainy over her shoulders. As for the Hell part, well... check out her job description.
  • Heroic BSoD:
    • Rather frequently due to viewer generosity:
      • She had a legendary breakdown on her first gaming stream ever because a Canadian (actually a Chinese person who was deliberately trying to start a red superchat war) dropped 500 CAD on a red superchat that started a massive chain of similar donations (mostly by actual Canadians), and she couldn't believe people would actually give her that much money.
      • It happened again in the next stream where superchat was enabled, as her attempt to apologize for having to private her previous video thanking her fans for the earlier superchats was continuously delayed by an even bigger superchat war erupting between America and Canada that made her around ten thousand dollars in about 20 minutes. She ended up crying from the shock.
Calli: Please take care of yourselves first.
      • This happened again during her 400k Subscriber party stream. It got so bad she decided to block the superstream donations at 1 hour and 5 minutes... but then it turned out that it wasn't working correctly or she accidentally turned it on again. Meaning that a stream of donations started going in when she wasn't looking. Cue her going from smug to panicked scrambling as she tried to turn it off properly again.
    • She once forgot how Glory Kills worked for a few seconds in Doom Eternal on a Cacodemon (despite doing Glory Kills constantly and being her favorite part of the game) due to the stress and confusion, then realizing her mistake and ranting at herself for a while afterwards while calling herself an idiot.
Calli: I deserved to die for that.
    • After mentioning that her streaming schedule revolves mostly around her standard day job (meaning once she's done streaming she's finished all her work for the day) she starts talking about how she relaxes and unwinds, only to actually stop, ask herself what she actually does for fun, and stops talking for about a minute as she has an existential crisis before saying she should really find something to do for herself and take her mind off working.
  • Heroic Self-Deprecation:
    • Despite being regarded as the hardest working member as well as being fairly skilled in everything she's done (art, animation, and music), she constantly sells herself short and thinks she isn't anything special, something she acknowledged in an ESL teaching stream when asked if she liked herself and her response was a shrug followed by a hesitant "I don't... hate myself." It's to the point where she has incorporated it into lyrics on her EP as well as writing an entire song about her own insecurities.
Reaper Or Rapper? lyrics: I lowered all your expectations and I'll tank 'em again/because I like to diss myself along with all of my friends
Dead Beats lyrics: Calliope Mori on this goddamn mic!/I don't want your fucking money, I just want your life!/I'm filling syllables with curse words because I am an amateur!/Everybody likes...self...deprecating...rap...I'm gonna stop. Like, I got nothing. I'm so tired, man...
    • She's also usually the first to admit that she's not good at video games, such as when Gura jokingly called her out on "hid[ing] behind the 'I'm Calliope Mori, I'm bad at video games!'", to which Calli responded with "Don't be rude, I know I'm bad at video games!", or when she was playing Clubhouse Games 51 with Amelia and credited moments where she was doing good to Amelia going easy on her.
    • Goes full-circle in guh, where her self-deprecating tendencies are ironically turned into a Badass Boast: no matter how her haters try to insult her, it's bound to fail because she's probably already acknowledged that aspect and made fun of it herself!
Try again, I'm wishing you well, but you will never roast me better than I roast myself!
  • Hip-Hop / Rap: Prepared a rap song for her debut, and improvised another afterwards. She released her songs regularly for the first week after her debut and plans on having at least one new song a month.
  • Hoist by His Own Petard: Discussed in this January 2022 stream. Calli announced that if any superchats badmouth her friends or other people in general, she will take the money that the superchatter donated to Calli and give it to the subject of the chatter's ridicule instead.
  • Honor Before Reason: During her playthrough of Papers, Please, she absolutely refuses to trust the EZIC agents, even burning up a thousand dollars given as a gift that would've allowed her family to afford both food and medicine.
  • Horrifying the Horror: She is The Grim Reaper (or rather his apprentice) and invokes fear in others in her lore, but is just as terrified of real monsters in Survival Horror games.
  • Humanity Ensues: She obtained a human body as part of becoming a vtuber which comes with drawbacks such as being able to get sick, needing human medication, and requiring sleep and nourishment.
  • Human Hammer-Throw: She's admitted to wanting to do this to short people like Gura or La+.
  • I Am Not Your Father: Her stance on this seems to have wavered over time. Calli was initially uncomfortable with being referred to as "Dad" by either her fellow idols or the chat, especially if they did that often. Despite Ollie and her viewers insisting otherwise, she constantly has to remind them that she is not "Dad". However, she slowly became more prone to letting it slide on occasion, and has come to largely accept it as part of her character given her interactions with Kobo in mid-2022. As the cherry on top, Calli basically claimed the entirety of TEMPUS as her "sons" immediately following their first interactions on Twitter, before they had even debuted.
  • I Call It "Vera": Her scythe is named "Ricky", written using the kanji for riki (利器), which describes a sharp or powerful instrument, which sounds appropriate for an item that's both her weapon and her bass guitar. In actuality, though, it was a nod to Kiara's Catchphrase "Kikkeriki!", it just so happened to sound like it could be excused as a Meaningful Name that Calli rolled with it.
  • Identical Stranger: To Anemachi, on account of both of them having pink hair, pink eyes, large breasts and amazing singing skills. A fan comic jokingly posits that Calliope is actually Anemachi's alter ego.
  • If It's You, It's Okay: Inverted on one occasion, when Kiara starts getting giddy at the prospect of seeing Calli naked.
Calli: I don't know why you're so worried about those kinds of things. It's just a body.
Kiara: You don't... so, you don't mind if I see your naked body?
Calli: I mean... if it's in the right context, right? When you go to places like an onsen, no one cares. Right?
    Kiara: [starts getting excited]
Calli: HOLD ON! Because it's you—hold on a minute—because it's you though, I might actually have a problem.
  • I Need a Freaking Drink: Frequently, due to either exasperation at dealing with Kiara or frustration/embarrassment at herself. This seems to be primarily why she keeps a bottle of cheap red wine on hand at all times.
  • Impossible Hourglass Figure: She describes herself like this, with huge hips about the same size as her bust, but an "itty-bitty" waistline. According to an anecdote about her prior job as a waitress, this gained her some Male Gaze from the customers.
  • Impossibly Cool Clothes: Besides her New Years' Kimono just looking beautiful, it has wisps of dark smoke curling around the hem and sleeves, making it look like the Kimono itself may be made from smoke.
  • In the Blood: Mama and Papa Reaper were a singer and pianist respectfully as revealed in the Jazz karaoke stream.
  • In the Hood: Subverted. While her cloak does have a hood according to her character sheet, that feature ultimately went unused and Calli has never actually put it up herself.
  • Insistent Terminology:
    • She has her terms and she often sticks to them, even when they're odd. For example, calling herself "your boy" Guzma-style, always calling her beers "cold ones" even when it gets awkward, and calling the PogChamp emote "Champion of the Pog".
    • She's also on a one-sided Last-Name Basis with Amelia, with her almost always referring to her genmate as "Watson" when possible, unlike the other members of EN, whom she would address by their given names.
  • Insult of Endearment: Tends to call Kiara "Kusotori" (Japanese for "shit bird"), which out of context sounds like an insult, but the two are good friends, even spending a day together at the spa. It's just that Kiara likes messing with Calli and has a tendency to get on her nerves. When Polka started imitating Calli and using the word, Kiara cheerfully but firmly told Polka that Calli is the only one allowed to call her "Kusotori".
  • Interrupted by the End: Once cut herself off by mistiming her own outro song.
  • Irony:
    • Even though she is a Grim Reaper, she tends to either A) be the first one to die when playing with others or B) almost never get a chance to be the "killer" in Asymmetric Multiplayer games. This happens so frequently that Gura lampshades this trend during a group playthrough of Phasmophobia:
Gura: It's kinda ironic how Calli always dies first, even though she's Death. [laughs]
    • As an incarnation or deity of death that totes a massive scythe, many expected her to have a badass, dominating personality. She does come off that way in most of her raps, but that aside, she's more in the "lovable and kind-hearted dork trying and utterly failing to present herself as a cool edgy reaper" territory. Considering that she is a fan of gap moe, this is very likely intentional.
    • Despite being part of a collaboration, alongside other members of HoloMyth, with CyGames' Princess Connect! Re:Dive, as part of the mobile game's Global release campaign in early 2021, even going as far as to compose a theme tune for said campaign, Calli was not able to play the game on-stream or even at all, as the Global version is not playable in Japan, and HoloMyth did not have permissions for the Japanese version.
  • It's All My Fault: Rarely, during competitions, she will blame herself for what she believes is karmic upon losing her chance at winning, claiming she "did it to herself". This is in spite of the fact that she visibly never shows behavior to prove said karmic nature, showing that she is blaming herself for nothing, and it's mostly her insecurities speaking for her.
  • Japanese Politeness:
    • Lampshaded in her debut song "Excuse My Rudeness, But Could You Please RIP?", where one of the lines calls out how weird it is that she's rapping in formal Japanese speech.
    • During her Doom Eternal stream, she would repeatedly apologize to the demons she was slaying, all the while calling them "Sir". Justified as Calli originates from the Underworld, where demons also hail from, so she views them as friends and neighbors rather than horrific abominations.
    • Subverted when she actually speaks Japanese, as she defaults to more casual speech despite attempting to communicate in keigo when speaking to those whom she respects.
  • Jiggle Physics: Her official 3D model has them, much to her chagrin. No prizes for guessing where.
  • Jump Scare:
    • On the EN Minecraft server, Ame's PPP tower has a monster spawner. While using the tower for fishing, Calli would use the monster spawner to get some XP. She pressed it three times, and jumped in surprise every time because she wasn't used to it.
    • During the same session, when she noticed that Amelia had begun giving Ollie and Moona a tour of the EN server, she unintentionally caused Ollie to scream like a banshee when she showed up.
    • When track-mixing using objects around her home, Calli banged on a metal pot. The sound from the pot was louder than she expected, causing her to get briefly surprised and let out a scream.
  • Just Friends: Call does like Kiara as a friend, but she always shoots down any attempts to go past that. That said, Calli thought it was Actually Pretty Funny when Kiara's real-life mother said she could help with the two of them getting engaged, causing Kiara to get very flustered.
Kiara: [Me and Marine] are just friends, Calli. I want to make it clear we're just friends, okay?
    Calli: [cheerfully] As are we.
  • Kayfabe: Calli is unique among the hololive performers in that she never breaks character, trying her able best to present herself as her Holodeath persona and nothing else.
    • When she spoke of experiences at school and her job at a restaurant (which was implied to be the American chain Applebee's), she insisted that they were the underworld versions of those things, and that her dream was to go to Japan in the overworld.
    • When appearing as a guest on the Trash Taste podcast, she appeared as her vtuber self next to three flesh-and-blood hosts in the studio. Once again, she never broke character. She was a bit more relaxed the second time, however; she even admitted that she felt like she had to be someone she wasn't in her early streaming career.
    • Most of Calli's songs are done in-character. Her introductory song "Excuse My Rudeness, But Could You Please RIP?" is a Boastful Rap about how dangerous she is as the personification of death, and "The Grim Reaper Is a Livestreamer" is about Exactly What It Says on the Tin.
    • Defied in UnAlive, which is about Calli accepting that she must sometimes break character, because she is a person behind the screen and not just a hollow shell.
  • Kindhearted Cat Lover: As her playthrough of Stray proves she just melts around cats. She eventually adopted two of her own, named Tutu and Ghostcat.
  • Kleptomaniac Hero: Calli admits that her favorite thing do to in video games is being able to steal everything that isn't nailed down.
  • The Klutz: She can't ever seem to start a stream without some sort of accident happening, technical difficulties or otherwise. Or both at the same time.
  • The Knights Who Say "Squee!": She was a big fan of Ironmouse of VShojo before she became a VTuber. Coincidentally, Ironmouse became a big Fangirl of Calli's once she became a VTuber.
  • The Lad-ette: Despite her own fashion sense and desire to be seen as "cute," her tastes, actions and manner of speaking make her out to be the most masculine of the EN group and hololive as a whole. While she is unapologetically herself in this regard, she has stated that she dislikes the term "tomboy," especially when used to describe herself.
  • Lady Swears-a-Lot: She frequently drops as many swears as Coco does. Right down to Cluster F Bombs. Despite her efforts to maintain proper language, it is common to listen to her cursing on streams.
  • Last-Name Basis:
    • Downplayed Trope. While it's not that she never calls her by first name, she tends to primarily refer to, and address, Amelia as "Watson".
    • This trope also applies to her on occasion, in great part since her last name is much easier to pronounce than her first name. While the most common way of referring to her is "Calli", it's more common to see people calling her "Mori" than her full first name, "Calliope".
  • Legacy Character: It's been implied that her title of Grim Reaper is one that's passed from one individual to another, as she is described as a "Reaper in training", and Death-sensei used to hold that position before he became her teacher.
  • Liquid Courage: Suisei mentions frequently seeing Calli drinking right before a concert, and the reaper explains that if she doesn't have alcohol in her system, she gets so nervous.

    M-R
  • Madness Mantra: "Atlus, please let me play Persona 3". Calli's favorite video game of all time is Persona 3, but she was not allowed to stream it for a long time due to Atlus being very anti-stream. It's such an important game to Calli that she's kept trying to get broadcast permission, including a stream that was literally just her begging Atlus to let her stream the game for ninety minutes, over and over and over again. It eventually paid off.
  • Married to the Job: Her response to the ol' "will you marry me" question is that she's married to her work.
  • Meaningful Name:
    • "Mori" is Latin for "to die" befitting a reaper. She adds more wordplay into her Signing Off Catchphrase "I'm Mori, I hope you remember me!" Explanation
    • "Calliope" can be written in Japanese as "美声" Pronunciation, which means "beautiful voice", as befitting a singer. It is also the name of the Greek Muse who presides over epic poetry, in addition to a type of instrument.
  • Messy Hair: Her comfy outfit gives her a serious case of bed head, at least before she ties them up into twin tails.
  • Mirthless Laughter: When she was cursed in Minecraft, Calli learned she had to drink milk to cure herself. As she mused about where she could find milk, someone in the chat suggested she check her chest for it. It takes Calli a couple of seconds, and then...
    Calli: Oh, hahahahahahaHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA... whatever, man.
  • Mistaken for Pedophile: Calli has noted a preference for short people. During an English learning stream, Iroha and La+ confuse this with "children" and call her a lolicon. Much to Calli's annoyance. She had to clarify again when Chloe brought it up during a birthday call-in.
  • Mistaken for Pregnant: At one point, there was a fan theory that Calli had kids with another on the way. It was based on some offhand comments to Gura and choosing to lay off the alcohol for a while. As Calli told Bae, she thought it was Actually Pretty Funny, but confirmed that she wasn't pregnant and has no children.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: Her sixth outfit has her fully embracing her "Sheriff" persona, complete with a rifle that is still a scythe.
  • Mob War: The MV for "Q" pits Calli and her Deadbeat army engaging in a gang war with Gura and her Chumbuds. Halfway into the song, both armies are hit with a mysterious gas that drives them crazy and turns them against the duo, forcing them to reconcile by beating the crap out of their forces.
  • Moment Killer: Not Calli herself, but Ghost Rider has made it a habit to interrupt her audience "dates" in order to hit on her.
  • Money Mauling: Her audience will engage in what can be considered psychological warfare by sending her large donations and either joke messages (such as pretending to buy recorders or concert tickets from her) or genuine messages of support. Due to her confidence and stress issues, she almost always responded to such generosity by either panicking or crying due to a feeling of not having done enough to deserve it. While she has gotten better about accepting such messages of support, she has stated that all she's done is gotten better at hiding her internal panic whenever someone gives her a large donation.
  • Motor Mouth: Has a very fast style of talking. Considering rap is her strongest musical style, this is more than justified.
  • Murder Is the Best Solution: As a Reaper, she is prone to this kind of thinking when faced with a problem in games. For instance, when one of Kiara's villagers escaped in Minecraft due to Calli's recklessness, Gura proposed pushing him back inside the village, while Calli suggested they just kill him, immediately starting to look for ways to Make It Look Like an Accident.
  • Muscle Angst: Along with all the other things Calli does for her career, she also makes time to have a proper diet and exercise, mostly in the form of running. This has caused her thighs to become very well-developed, to the point where she actively complains about it due to wanting to have a petite figure.
Calli: Sometimes I harden them to see how much muscle is there...IT'S THE WHOLE FUCKING THING!
  • Must Have Caffeine: Averted. When asked about what kind of other things she drinks, she explained that any kind of caffeine and sugary liquids like soda don't mix well with her horrible nerves, digestive system, and energy problems, doing things that go from wildly throwing off her sleep schedule to making her sick. She did use energy drinks when she was younger but can't handle them anymore. Gura of all people pointing out just how much caffeine is in a single can (300 mg, when 400 mg a day is the healthy limit for an adult) may have played a role in Calli deciding to kick the habit: Calli sounds mortified as she decides against drinking a second one, perhaps realizing how close she had come to making herself seriously IRL sick.
  • My Eyes Are Up Here: Said word-for-word towards Kiara once during their first collab. Once again, it was Kiara being a troll to Calli.
  • Nervous Wreck:
    • Prevalent in her debut stream and a constant element of her solo streams, especially if she is sober. The only time she isn't this is when she sings her rap songs. Her nerves are even worse if she's playing a video game, where she quickly earned a reputation for her cute panicking and fumbling. She has explained this as a deep fear of disappointing people, but has slowly started to gain her confidence when noting that she still maintains steady viewership regardless of what she does.
    • After explaining that the "smoke" was coming from her Snoop Dogg Dakimakura and not her because she doesn't partake in "that substance", she elaborated on the Noodle Incident of setting her hair on fire that the reason why was because her first try of the "Devil's Salad" made her have a full blown panic attack and is why she never touched the stuff again.
  • Never Gets Drunk: Her absurd tolerance for alcohol makes her a Type 1. Despite drinking often onstream, she'll only get tipsy at absolute worst.
  • Never Heard That One Before: Her default reaction to the chat making Dad jokes at her expense.
  • Never Say "Die": Zigzagged. In an attempt to evade Youtube's demonetization and shadowbanning, she has to come up with various other ways to express the concepts of killing and murder without actually using the words; her go-to tends to be "slay" as well as the overly literal "end human life." She also has to be careful to avoid violating Japanese censorship to sidestep legal issues with her songs' lyrics. However, in many cases she only censors the written lyrics, while saying what she actually means. For example, in "失礼しますが、RIP♡ || “Excuse My Rudeness, But Could You Please RIP?", despite both the song title and the subtitles of the music video saying RIP, what she actually says translates as "Excuse my rudeness, but could you please die?". She also outright says "Korusu no koto ga tanoshii", which means "killing is fun", and "Murder is so fucking kawaii".
  • Nice Girl: If you ask Fubuki, who met her in real life at least once, she'd say that Calliope is an angel. For her part, she says that she'd like to think she's one but doesn't want to presume such a thing.
  • Noodle Incident:
    • When asked about one of her most memorable "drunk" moments, she confessed to lighting her hair on fire.
    • Before she started singing the soundtrack to Shrek in her 800k karaoke stream, Calli mentions that Shrek is currently banned in the Underworld, and refused to elaborate as to why.
  • "No. Just… No" Reaction:
    • When a commenter asked her "What if you kissed Death-sensei?", she became so disgusted by the idea that she had to step away from her computer to get some mouthwash.
Calli: That's my teacher! [disgusted noises] I need to go gargle salt water or something, be right back!
  • Not a Morning Person: Although she can be awake and functional enough in the morning, Calli generally doesn't enjoy being up early, especially not without coffee. Her "prime" time during the day would be around noon.
  • Not So Above It All:
    • While she's generally her gen's Token Wholesome and tries to avoid being intentionally lewd, she does have moments where she indulges in the same silly and perverted antics as her genmates. This is more obvious in Myth's Super-Deformed 3D collab streams, where she's as much of a gremlin as Amelia (who, ironically, is the straight man instead in these streams).
Amelia: Being turned small has made her brain weird...
    • While she has noted to somewhat oppose the Valley Girl accent, she wastes no time in using one when everyone else she's with indulges in it.
  • Now What?: Discussed during one of her Wine Parties. She admits to wanting to get to the top in several things, and as such becoming The Workaholic that she is. She then realizes that she's pretty high up now, and doesn't know what she will do when she is at the top. She gets a small Heroic BSoD from this realization.
  • Nothing Is Scarier: Just Mori. Mimicking (and taking the piss out of) the ultimate ending of Doki Doki Literature Club!, Calli places herself in a class room, contained inside the void of space, which occasionally glitches out. She stands there with her hands crossed, and speaks nothing. The only noise is an ominous humming from the void. The chat's responses ranged from soothing ASMR to outright confusion and terror at how unnerving the silence was. Calli tried to "fix" things on her end, with limited success of allowing her voice to come through, but it glitched out with the environment she was in. In the end, she realizes that spending an eternity with the love of your life ends up being pretty boring, and willingly deleted her own file in the computer directory to end the nightmare.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: How she tends to address instances of perverted behavior, by acting like she has no understanding of the topic or Comically Missing the Point.
  • Offscreen Afterlife: During Calli and Kiara's playthrough of It Takes Two, during the Fluffy Cloud Heaven level, Kiara asks Calli if Heaven really looks like that. Calli says that actually, a Reaper's job only goes as far as collecting the deceased soul and sending it off, what happens afterward isn't their business, so she doesn't have any answers for what the afterlife is like. Her lore video would later elaborate on this point; her job is to reap the souls and carry them on a boat down a river in the underworld to a large, mysterious staircase. Neither she nor Death-Sensei have ever been up the staircase and do not know what awaits the souls at the top, and both suspect there might not be anything there at all, but have no way to know for certain.
  • Oh, Crap!: Part of Calli's humor is how delayed this realization is whenever she messes up something, such as the one time when she accidentally damaged Gura's Christmas tree in Minecraft. Usually Kiara is the one to point it out for her, whereupon Calli would promptly panic.
Calli: Kiara says "uhhh... I think that's Gura's tree" - oh shit!
  • The Older Immortal: Calli's Amazingly Embarrassing Parents, as well as Death-sensei, who by the nature of their existence are much older than Calli's ageless self.
  • One of the Boys: Calli can be quite tomboyish, utilizing a lot of boyish terms and referring to herself as “Your boy” while often called “Dad” by others in the Hololive community. She also actively mingles with the boys of the Holostars or other male content creators.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Calli's second stream of Doom Eternal is marked by her pushing her way through a difficult level, leading to the last battle which killed her a few more times. This lasted until she hit her limit, going from her usual fast-talking commentary to total silence as she took on the enemies, as if she'd hit her Rage Breaking Point. This was contrasted not only by her going silent, but she had also been polite to the demons beforehand, calling them "sir" and apologizing before fighting them. To see Calli go totally silent and focus on the "rip and tear" of the demons was quite the contrast.
  • Open Mouth, Insert Foot: Calli has a tendency of blurting things out that make the situation considerably more awkward, especially where Kiara is concerned. This bites her especially hard in social deduction games, such as the one time on an Among Us group stream where she boasted about finding Fauna's dead body, but the way she worded it accidentally implicated her as the impostor who did the deed. Granted, she was an impostor during that round, but the kill was Ina's, and Calli accidentally outing herself prompted the crewmates to eject her for all the wrong reasons.
  • Overly Long Gag: After mentioning from time to time that she wants to play Persona 3 on stream, she then dedicates an entire hour-and-a-half stream to begging Atlus to let her do so.
  • Paper Tiger: She certainly looks intimidating enough with her massive Sinister Scythe and her spiky leather cape. She's a death deity (in training), and she certainly tries to project the façade of a reaper who loves killing people. Emphasis on "tries". It's readily apparent to anyone who watches her that she's a very gentle soul. Readily apparent in her Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town stream, where she spends several minutes gushing over the selection of ingame pets and professing her love for cats, spends most of her money on a Maine Coon... and proceeds to name it "Destroyer".
Youtube commenter: AH!!! If I name the big kitty Destroyer, that'll make up for how I'm absolutely gushing over how much I love him, right? They definitely won't clip me being cute if I call him Destroyer. Genius."
    • This even extends to her lore videos, where she consistently tries to present herself as a stoic, intimidating harbinger of death, only for her kind and dorky nature to shine through moments later. In "Don't Fear The Reaper", it turns out that for all her bluster, she actually hates seeing people go before their time.
  • Parent Never Came Back from the Store: Played for laughs, and averted. After taking a week-long break, Calli returned to her stream with a carton of milk. Calli was a bit unclear as to why her deadbeats in the chat kept asking for it, but was happy to oblige them.
  • Platonic Declaration of Love: After tweeting out an image of a birthday shrine for Amelia and saying that she "loves [her] to death", Calli's fans started poking fun at her by saying that she's "cheating on" Kiara, with Kiara endorsing the sentiment. Calli's response to everyone's teasing was to say that you can tell your friends you love them without it being romantic.
Calli: Kiara's here in my heart... You can have your friends in your heart, listen you g-!... And same for the people that are saying things about Amelia, too. You can love your friends! LISTEN! You can love your friends! Don't make it weird.
  • Portmanteau Couple Name: In-Universe. She and Kiara are referred to as Takamori, which is even given this hashtag when they collab.
  • Precision F-Strike: After spending her debut stream trying to not to swear out loud, she pretends to be cutesy during her rap song before saying a perfectly timed fuck it.
  • Psychopomp: She became a Vtuber to collect souls and she's able to obtain the ones that were lost from TeeTee.
  • Pun: Calli always signs off streams with "hope you remember me". Her surname is Mori. In other words, "Memento Mori", a.k.a We All Die Someday.
  • Punch-Clock Villain: After Kiara reacted badly to The Reveal and the ending of A Way Out, Calli tried to cheer her up by pointing out that while Vincent may have betrayed her, Calli is still her friend and only kills her because it's her job (and because Kiara can come back from it).
  • Quick Time Event: During Calli's 3D Showcase, a deadbeat took her scythe and challenged her for power. During the Blade Lock, a prompt appeared on the screen to mash the PlayStation Circle button. Calli eventually overpowered the deadbeat with her own bass guitar-scythe.
  • Rags to Riches: She had been streaming off of a laptop from a claustrophobic home, and worked two other jobs; one as a freelancer and the other being a more stable position teaching "scythe-swinging lessons." Because of the generosity of her viewers, she upgraded her equipment, moved to a more spacious area suited for recording, and dedicated more time streaming now that she's quit her day jobs. note
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: A minor example. When Kiara posted a picture of food revealing that she and Calli had dinner together IRL, Calli remained in-character by explaining she resides in the part of the underworld that is directly below Japan.
  • Real Women Have Curves: According to the stories she tells about herself, she is shaped somewhat like an hourglass, and the impression is solidified in her second Jump King stream bantering with Gura.
Gura: Calliope Mori is bon-kyu-bon, ladies and gentlemen!
  • Recycled In SPACE: She's notable for staying in-character and maintaining Kayfabe more than any other member in hololive, leading to her giving an underworld twist to any discussion of life outside of streaming. Calli didn't go to school, she went to reaper school. She doesn't reside in Japan, she resides in underworld Japan. She even continued this when appearing as a guest on the Trash Taste podcast, staying in-character the whole time.
  • Red Baron: In her cover of KING with Gura, she is referred to as "Death's Empress".
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: The blue to Kiara's red. Calli is gloomy, sarcastic and introverted, while Kiara is bubbly, cheerful and outgoing. Their contrasting personalities make for great comedic interaction.
  • Renaissance Woman: As several other members noticed, Calli is talented in multiple areas. While music production is her music production, she is also a talented artist, animator, dancer, and excels at certain games like Jump King.
  • The Resenter: She spoke about how she used to be this on Trash Taste in regards to idols. She looked at the idol industry and believed it was a bunch of manufactured success with the talent having everything handed to them while she was working hard at making music for a fraction of the recognition. It wasn't until she met and became friends with a few idols that she changed her mind and saw that they were working just as hard, if not harder, than she was and deserved their success.

    S-Z
  • Sanity Slippage:
    • During a track-making/sound sampling stream, she justified her erratic behavior as having lost her mind due to an incredibly stressful day in addition to her normal anxieties, and that acting strange helps regain her composure.
    • She once tried to help her audience learn Japanese by doing an entry-level lesson on Duolingo. When she found how bad it was at teaching the language, Calli slowly lost her mind until she gave up on it.
  • Scatting: Usually to video game soundtracks, if there's something musical playing, she'll likely vocalize it herself on certain occasions. It makes sense, as she is a musician.
  • Screams Like a Little Girl:
    • Gender inverted. There are times her screams during a horror game sound like they're coming from a very scared male person; some of the more panicked ones have been compared to Tom's.
    • There were moments, however, where this trope was played straight, most famously during her playthrough of Night Delivery.
  • Screw This, I'm Outta Here: She tried to end her first collab stream with Kiara the second she realized that she was getting Rickrolled.
  • Security Cling: While not physically, during a group session of Phasmophobia she stuck incredibly close to Kiara, begging her not to leave her alone in the darkness.
  • Self-Applied Nickname: She calls herself "your boy" when talking about herself in the third person to her audience; due to her affiliation with hip-hop culture, she's supposed to be saying "ya boi," but has trouble with slang, making her come across as Totally Radical at times.
  • Sensory Abuse: Invoked with her "Cursed ASMR" stream, where she essentially tortures the audience with all sorts of ear-piercing noises.
  • Seven Deadly Sins: Her first major label debut album, Sinderella, has its tracklist revolve around this theme. Seven of the ten tracks are represented by one of the seven sins — lust, wrath, greed, sloth, envy, gluttony, and pride. The other three tracks have themes of guilt, self-deprecation, and too much internet use.
  • Shameless Fanservice Girl: Zigzagged.
    • While she does get easily embarrassed around things that are overtly sexual in nature, she doesn't regard nudity as such; when talking about her spa date with Kiara, she mentioned wanting to take her to an onsen at least once. Kiara finds such places embarrassing, but Calli flat-out stated that she doesn't really mind being naked in front of other people since to her, "it's just a body." She slightly retracted her statement when realizing that it would be Kiara who would see her naked, but would be fine with it so long as she didn't make it weird and dared Kiara to get naked in front of her next time they have a day trip such as this.
    • When lewd topics come up, Calli generally tends to freak out and self-censor way more than she probably is contractually required to. She also dislikes being expected to act sexy or getting shoehorned into a Ms. Fanservice role. However, she does love to use more risque fanart as thumbnails, and even set up her own hashtag for NSFW art of herself. When asked about it, she basically said that the thumbnails and art are for the audience, so she doesn't mind it there, but her actual model and streaming style are for herself and primarily, she is the one who has to be content with the direction it takes.
  • Shaped Like Itself: When she can't figure out or remember the name for something, she will be overly literal in describing what it's supposed to be and name it as such; she has called Sora's mascot "Kuma(bear) Dude," her PC tower a "techtangle," and she named her character in Gang Beasts "Burger Boss," as he's the boss of all burgers.
  • She Cleans Up Nicely: While she is already very attractive, her party dress makes her drop-dead gorgeous.
  • The Sheriff: During her run of Papers, Please, she portrayed the border agent as one, speaking in a southern accent through most of the playthrough and wearing a personally stylized cowboy hat on her avatar. She has since acknowledged "Sheriff Calli" as their own character of sorts, as a way of disciplining her chat when they get out of line. Reaches a literal conclusion with her sixth official outfit, which has her dressed up as one, complete with ten-gallon hat and a rifle built into her scythe.
  • Sick and Wrong: Mere hours after the announcement of the Holostars EN branch TEMPUS, Calli put her foot down that she would not accept any forms of shipping of her with any of them, equating a mother with her four sons.
  • Signature Laugh:
    • Averted. During her debut, she forced herself to try and make a high pitched "teehee" something she would be known for. Realizing that it wouldn't work only a few days later, she dropped it entirely. In "honor" of her attempts, Calli added a new rule to her drinking game while watching her debut that she would take a shot every time debut Calli said it.
Calli, watching her own debut: I remember the "teehee"... dropped that shit real quick. Like a hot potato.
    • What has actually become her signature style is a hearty guffaw that expends her lungs after about four "ha"s before she needs to breathe.
  • Significant Monogram: Japanese name order gives her the initials "MC", and she happens to also be a rapper, which is referred to as an MC (master of ceremonies).
  • Signing-Off Catchphrase: "I'm Mori, I hope you remember me!" followed by a hearty and deep "PEACE!"
  • Sinister Scythe: She has one that's taller than she is, which Sticks to the Back of her model. If her cover of "Roki" is to be believed, she also has one that doubles as an electric bass.
  • Sir Cameos-a-Lot: Comes with the territory of being a rapper, and one proficient in both English and Japanese at that. For example, she ended up appearing in debuts on three different channels in a three-day span at the end of October 2021: guest starring on BOOGEY VOXX's "CROWN" on the 29th, collabing with three members of the Indonesian branch on a cover of K/DA's "Baddest" on the 30th, and dropping a single of her own, "Graveyard Shift" (with the aforementioned BOOGEY VOXX as guest stars) on the 31st.
  • Skewed Priorities: When Amelia was showing Ollie and Moona around the EN Minecraft server, Moona ended up getting blown up by a Creeper just outside of Calli's house. Her initial reaction was to check if Adam Saddler's grave and Mr. Steeds were unharmed.
  • Sleep Deprivation: Has admitted that due to her very tight schedule, she very rarely gets more than 6 hours of sleep a night. It got to the point that during a collaboration stream for Overcooked! 2 she had mentioned being up for 36 hours straight in order to try and finish a freelance project.
  • Sleepy Head: Thanks to multiple stressful jobs, her love of wine, and anxiety problems, Calli often exhausts herself. As such, it's not uncommon for her to begin yawning and acting sleepy on her streams.
  • So Proud of You: During her stream where she taught Haachama dirty words in English, she became noticably cheerful and excited whenever Haachama took what she had taught her and used it to form new sentences on her own, leading to the image of Calli being proud of Haachama using sentences like "Get shit on, fuckboy".
  • Special Guest: On the 23rd episode of the Trash Taste podcast, where she talks about her experiences before she was an idol and how she got into the business. All in-character.
  • Spikes of Villainy: Her collar has a row of spikes lined alongside it as part of her reaper aesthetic.
  • Springtime for Hitler: In one stream where she gets tormented by yet another series of red superchats ($100 USD or more), she starts playing the recorder poorly on purpose to the tune of her background music in order to get viewers to stop. This only ends up pulling in even more red superchats thanking her for the impromptu concert.
  • Sticks to the Back: Her scythe does this on her 2D model.
  • Straight Man and Wise Guy: Has this dynamic with Kiara, playing the Straight Man to Kiara's wise guy, constantly shutting down or turning away the flirts and advances of the perverted phoenix.
  • Stylistic Suck:
    • She played a recorder deliberately badly, calling it "Hell's own instrument" and trying to be as annoying as possible when she was playing it. It ended up causing a Springtime for Hitler effect, as people kept donating in superchats to make her play it more often.
    • She once had a "Cursed ASMR" stream in which she not only played the recorder badly on purpose, but filled the stream with a lot of annoying noises. This included a vacuum cleaner, crinkling snack bags, and banging on a wine bottle.
    • In 2022 on April Fools' Day, she released an EP called "My Mixtape" under the alias of "Calvin Morrison" aka "YUNG SH1N1GAM1 B01" aka "C-Man". The whole mixtape was Calli with her voice pitched lower to sound masculine as an Affectionate Parody of Boastful Rap, with lyrics akin to low-effort gangsta rap.
  • Suddenly Shouting: Very prone to doing this when something surprises her or isn't going her way, usually accompanied by switching to a deep, almost masculine voice.
  • Sweet Tooth: She has a fondness for German chocolate and a past love of Bang energy drinks, a brand of soft drinks (in)famous for its high caffeine content and overwhelmingly sweet flavors as a result of the company's patented artificial "sugar-free" sweetener. Gura tells her that she has "the palate of a six year-old", and there may be some truth to that claim, as Calli has stated that her favorite flavor of anything is "birthday cake", and will actively seek it out if a product line has itnote .
  • Take That, Critics!:
    • "Off With Their Heads" is supposed to avert this, despite most of her listeners saying it is a diss track. Much to Calli's frustration, she intended the song to be tough love and motivational so that people listening would understand they need strength to follow their dreams. She went on to repeatedly explain it was never intended to be a diss at anyone in multiple streams to the point where she was so annoyed and depressed with the interpretation of the song being a diss track that she temporarily disabled her comments on the music video, apologized for it, and considers the audience misinterpreting her intended message to be one of her biggest failures in her lyric writing career.
    • "guh" is a subversion of this. She has discussed in a few lyric dives that while the surface level interpretation was her making fun of her critics and basically not letting hateful comments get to her through a heavy dose of Self-Deprecation, she has several lines of the song which hint that beating yourself up over your work all the time as a defense mechanism is a toxic mindset in and of itself. She's staed that she had to learn to be proud as opposed to downplaying her own accomplishments just so that negative criticism won't affect her, and that her "dislikers" are people that are moreso to be pitied than actually fought against since their own mindset is probably born of some other negative aspect of their own lives.
    • That said, the more time goes by, the more Calli seems to (rather understandably) grow annoyed at her sizable hatedom, targeting it with increasingly scathing pieces. Shinigami Note had "Kamouflage", where she loudly proclaims that she is a person, not just an idealized pretty picture, and angrily tells "can't y'all knock?" to the people trying to dig through her private life for things to accuse her of. As of SINDERELLA, she seems to be 100% done trying to be nice, with "Internet Brain Rot" mercilessly tearing into these same circles, and proudly challenges them to do their worst:
What you gonna do, I'm offending you, God I'm sorry but it's true, I'm offending you!
  • Talking in Your Sleep: Apparently does this a lot. In her second guest appearance on the Trash Taste podcast, Calli described how she once came to Hokkaido with Kiara on a vacation, where she did this every night and made the latter extremely concerned.
Calli: I went on a trip with Kiara a while ago. We went to Hokkaido, and she said I just talked so much in my sleep [...] She's like "One night you sounded sad, like you were crying, and one night you were laughing and it was horrifying."
  • Tears of Joy: Two instances, both of them the result of getting overwhelmed from being showered with a flurry of red super chats from her fans.
    • The first instance was during her "Mad Father" gaming stream, where deadbeats from the US and Canada gave her over ten thousand dollars in a single night.
    • The second instance was during her Endurance Stream to 1 Million Subscribers; upon hitting the million mark, she took a moment to watch the 'rainbow' (the non-stop wave of superchats in the chat window) flying past, she sounded like she was mere seconds away from crying.
Calli: You guys are crazy... but you're also the best. I have the best fans. I wouldn't be here without all of you.
  • Team Dad: Her calmer attitude as well as her deeper voice and tendency to sternly discipline her chat whenever they start acting up has given her the reputation as being a tough father. Her habit of watching other hololive members' streams apparently at the sketchiest moments further gives an impression of a dad just walking on daughters. Calli was eventually given the nickname "Dad" by the hololive fanbase at large, which she initially protested (especially given the prospect of Kiara being the "Mom" by association), but eventually grew to embrace with pride, as her temperament often positions her as this for nearly any group she's a part of, not just among Myth members.
  • The Tease: While it doesn't come up very often, she does exhibit a flirtatious streak from time to time. The most memorable instance remains the Sunset ASMR stream, more specifically when she brings up the subject of said stream's thumbnail (which features her in red, lacy lingerie). It must be seen to be believed. She may not get lewd often, but when she does, she sure as hell doesn't pull her punches.
Calli: What if I told you I was wearing that right now, hmmm? Maybe you won't believe me. You don't have to believe me, but, you might be surprised~
Several members of chat: (blushing Calli emotes)
  • That Came Out Wrong:
    • At the end of the song "Dead Beats", she (or rather, a cutesy version of herself) started singing "Deadbeats, jerk it now!". Her more serious self made her stop, since it sounded quite inappropriate, with the cutesy Calli trying to explain that she was referring to a jerky dance and not masturbation.
    • During her debut stream, when it came time to show off her full Vtuber avatar:
Calli: Alright guys, how about we check out my full body. I will now show you my body. Wait.. wait hold on, hold on, nononono wait wait wait that isn't what-!
    • During the Halloween Secret Neighbour collab stream, she'd been having a particularly bad run of dying early in the rounds. Exasperated, Calli described her frustrations as a perpetual condition of hers, although the chat assumed she was talking about Death-Sensei, her teacher. Calli denied it after, claiming the chat was making it "weird."
Calli: What can I say, I'm attracted to death. Death and me are meant to be, listen. Either I'm killing folks or I'm getting killed. I'm in a dedicated relationship with death, I am.
    • In one Minecraft stream, she crafts some storage chests and talks about how big they are. Her chat immediately ribbed her for it.
Calli: We want a lot of big chests. Only big chests allowed here. Lots of big ones. ...What? Shut up, chat, shut up!
    • During her 2022 birthday call-in stream, after Chloe asks her if she likes kids, she starts wondering if there is even any way at all, in today's society, to say that you do without getting Mistaken for Pedophile.
  • That Syncing Feeling: Subverted. During her first 3D live performance at the "Link Your Wish" Hololive festival, Calli's mouth movements didn't match what she was saying. However, Calli wasn't lip-syncing, and was singing live; the disconnect happened because she was rapping too fast for the face tracking sensors to transmit her mouth's movements accurately to her 3D model.
  • They Killed Kenny Again: Despite being an incarnation of Death, Calli ironically has the tendency of being the first (or only) death in a lot of collaboration streams with cooperative games. In regards to her participation in the first Among Us collaboration, the last match is particularly notable because it's the only one she actually survived.
  • This Is for Emphasis, Bitch!:
  • Time Abyss: Claims to have existed since the beginning of time, or at least as long as things have been dying. Her official age is listed as "No". invokedYet she somehow still has a specific birthday. note
  • To Be Lawful or Good: Deciding moral dilemmas is the entire point of Papers, Please, and the game presents a challenge with a recurring character named Jorji, who never actually has his documents in proper order without trying to pull something else like smuggling contraband in with him. However, he is a genuinely nice person who understands you are only doing your job, and is designed to make players feel sorry for him. When he became a wanted criminal, Calli stated that making the decision to detain him was the hardest moral choice she ever had to make in her life.
  • Token Wholesome: Constant cursing aside, Calli is notable for being the only member of her gen who makes an active effort to avoid lewdness. When all the other girls are making subtle or not so subtle perverted jokes, Calli always feigns ignorance and stays out of it. This only extends to 2D spaces, however (and even that is not guaranteed), as if she is given a freer range of motions, like in the Myth 3D collabs, Calli will tend to devolve immediately into yabai territory, where she would regularly teabag or dry hump her fellow genmates (usually Gura) and make dubious poses with her character model.
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: With Kiara, Calli is the Tomboy to Kiara's Girly Girl. Calli is more butch, likes to drink and likes to wear street clothes, while Kiara is more into cute fashion and is more bubbly.
  • Tomboyish Voice: She has a surprisingly deep, assertive voice tone that matches her character as The Grim Reaper, and she certainly lives up to the "tomboy" part.
  • Tomboy with a Girly Streak:
  • Too Awesome to Use: Inverted. She seemed downright happy about losing the full Minecraft diamond armor set Kiara had equipped her with for the raid on the Ender Dragon, insisting that even if it were to be recovered, IRyS should keep it as a gift. This seems to stem from her desire to learn the game on her own terms, making her ardently refuse any handouts.
  • Too Kinky to Torture: The deadbeats can have some very "interesting" reactions to Calli's threats.
  • Too Long; Didn't Dub: Played for Laughs in the opening of “Excuse My Rudeness, But Could You Please RIP?” where the subtitles don't translate "tanoshii", with an asterisk commenting it just means "fun". It's promptly dropped and the rest of the bilingual song has full lyrics shown in both languages at all times. (The same thing happens with "Sayonara" in the first verse, but she's clearly using it as a loanword in an English line with a footnote for clarity.)
  • Top-Heavy Guy: She describes her physique as "Dorito-shaped", though Gura wasn't convinced in the least.
  • Torture Technician: Has offered to be one to help out in Kiara's "usual room" for re-education purposes.
  • Totally Radical: She tends to use dated slang in a very stilted manner (such as referring to herself as "your boy"), as she's both inhuman and ageless, so her communication skills with modern humanity leave something to be desired. It's not helped by the fact that, even when she does use modern slang, she's old enough that the meaning of some of it has changed, and she didn't know until her fans pointed it out note .
  • Tough Spikes and Studs: Her default outfit has a row of spikes across her shoulders and the back of her collar. It's done to make her look intimidating, since she's The Grim Reaper.
  • Tranquil Fury: Calli's second stream of Doom Eternal is marked by her pushing her way through a difficult level (with a controller, a sub-optimal way to play it), leading to the last battle which killed her a few more times. This lasted until she hit her limit, going totally silent as she took on the enemies, as if she'd hit her Rage Breaking Point. She got close to death several times, but kept pulling back with Glory Kills. Only after she's killed all of the demons does she snap out of it, embarrassed at showing "that side" of herself to the chat. Fans were quick to call this "Reaper Mode".
Calli: [Afterwards: gasping for air] Sorry I had to show you that side of me chat.
  • Transformation Sequence: Her January 2023 animated intro gives off a very Magical Girl vibe, where her reaper outfit materializes on top of and replaces her pajamas, ending with Calli striking a pose. It even comes complete with a Death-sensei Transformation Trinket.
  • Tsundere: She is incredibly nice and sweet to both her viewers and fellow members (although she can get snippy at times), with the exception of Kiara. She has pointed out there's no actual bad blood between the two of them, but it's mostly either out of exasperation in dealing with her antics as well as because she's so comfortable around Kiara that she feels she can give her shit and Kiara will never take it seriously. Calli also isn't above retweeting fanart shipping her with Kiara. Her "tsun" side also comes out whenever she raps, which she confesses is closer to the "real" her. Downplayed since Autumn of 2021, for different reasons. For one, Calli and Kiara have largely developed in their relationship to the point of Kiara acknowledging she wants to be known for more than the ship interacting with Calli, leading to the two acting casual and relaxed with each other much more often. For another, Calli has found other people who bring out her Tsundere side, like Ollie from HoloID being just as aggressively flirty as Kiara, but even then she doesn't go as far as she used to with Kiara.
  • T-Word Euphemism: She makes note of attempting not to swear in her debut and refers to cantaloupes as being an "F-word piece of S-word". This is because she had found out that much of her family watches her streams, including her younger cousins and grandmother, and she doesn't want them to hear her natural penchant for profanity. This also extends to words she finds to be embarassing qualifiers for her such as "Boomer", which she tries (and fails) to pass off as "B-word" in front of an unimpressed Gura.
  • Unrequited Love Lasts Forever: On the second episode of CHADcast with IRyS and Baelz, Calli shared a story about how she used to have feelings for a good friend who were the only one to "not treat her like shit" during that period of her life, but was heartbroken when she saw them kissing somebody else at a New Years party a few days after she'd just given them their birthday gift, and never fell in love again, though she did wish that they can have a happy life.
  • Verbal Tic: "Guh!" after drinking.
  • Video Game Caring Potential: Calli became very attached to protecting her son and Sergiu (one of the guards who she becomes friends with) in Papers, Please. She goes far enough to reload the same days over and over again to make sure she does a good enough job to keep her son healthy and fed and keeps Sergiu alive from terrorists. Her efforts pay off as Sergiu informed her on December 20th that him and his wife were expecting, and planned on naming the child after Calli's inspector and were leaving a gift at her home before being shipped off to another post. The $100 he gave her was enough for her to seek out a... not-"bad" ending.
Calli: That's the first bit of actual feel-good happiness I've felt playing this game.
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: With Kiara. She helped narrate and animate her storybook intro, but spent a majority of the time in Kiara's debut stream denying they were friends, mostly due to Kiara being a phoenix and thus unable to die. A good example is during the first all-member HoloMyth Minecraft collab: she comforts Kiara with the other girls when Kiara gets self-deprecating over her various deaths in the collab while also laughing at her on the signs marking the various places she died. Calli's obviously the more prickly of the two, but she also often lets her guard down and shows she really does care for and love Kiara.
  • Vocal Evolution: Calli hasn't always been speaking with such a deep voice as she does now. Her speaking voice at debut was much more high-pitched, somewhat similar in range to Ina or Ame in present day, due to her being nervous and wanting to create a cutesy image that could endear her to her viewers, which she found a bit cringeworthy when looking back upon it a year later. As time went on and her tomboy personality became more prominent, Calli's voice gradually deepened into how she currently sounds.
  • Walking Techbane: Despite tech issues being a constant in the branch, Calli seems to have the worst luck with such things. Aside from simple slip-ups like incorrect scene transition, her original streaming hardware became the source of a lot of trouble for her; she had crashed on multiple streams and for a while was completely unable to host collabs with it, causing others like Kiara to broadcast on her channel due to having better hardware. The laptop eventually gave up the ghost, but not without setting her back weeks of hard work. Ironically, this is in spite of its components. When Calli talked about her new workstation in a side-by-side comparison, it turned out that the laptop was actually very powerful for what it was, and neither Calli nor her audience could figure out why it was causing her so much trouble aside from incredibly bad luck.
  • Wall of Weapons: Hanging above her bed is a board of medieval weapons.
  • Weakened by the Light: During her collab stream with Mama Mori and a tweet leading up to that, Calli revealed that she has a skin condition that makes her super sensitive to sunlight, and prolonged exposure will cause her to "break out in hives", forcing her to put on sunscreen when going outside much to her discomfort.
  • We All Die Someday: Her Signing-Off Catchphrase is "I'm Mori, and I hope you remember me!" This is a reference to the Latin phrase "memento mori", which is usually translated as "remember that you will one day die", befitting the apprentice of The Grim Reaper.
  • Weirdness Magnet: That is not to say that Calli isn't plenty weird herself, but she has a knack for collaborating with people who have even more screws loose inside their head that she become the Straight Man by default. Just within her own generation alone, she's having to put up with the combined antics of Amelia and Gura put together, plus her usual interactions with Kiara, and Coco and Ollie almost immediately come to mind when the overseas branches are considered.
  • "Well Done, Daughter!" Girl: Of the non-familial variety. In a stream where she discussed the lyrics of her then-new song, "The End of a Life", Calli explained the lyrics "You watch your heroes fade/into the rear view mirror of the villain you portrayed" by discussing how, since she had found fame with Hololive and become more popular than people she looked up to and considered her mentors, which caused both feelings tremendous guilt and for many of them to stop speaking to her. An audibly emotional Calli talks about trying to brush it off and count her blessings, but later confesses, "I guess I just wanted some of them to be proud of me..."
  • Why Won't You Die?: She responds to Kiara's advances in this way; Mori being a reaper, Kiara's inability to die annoys her to no end.
  • A Wild Rapper Appears!:
    • Being an English-speaking rapper has given Calli a chance to appear on her senpai's singles such as Watame and Rikka.
    • A rap verse by her is also featured in Multiverse Monarch's song Villain Vibes.
    • She spontaneously shows up from off-screen in Kobo's 3D Showcase performance of "Endless Tears" to perform the rap part.
  • Wine Is Classy: Inverted. She enjoys red wine, specifically the cheapest variety available (no more than 3 dollars) and insisted that she drinks it properly out of a glass as opposed to straight from the bottle. She does admit it tastes like crap though. She later justified the choice, being that she genuinely cannot tell the difference between cheap and expensive wine, and that the cheaper varieties still have the desired effect of helping her relax.
  • The Workaholic:
    • Aside from streaming as part of hololive, she was noted to have two other jobs and keeps busy on a near constant basis, never really taking time for herself; according to her, this is because she had a goal when she was younger, but lost sight of it completely somewhere down the line and never stopped to consider why she was still working. This is also lampshaded in her first song where she calls herself a "workaholic business lady gettin' shit done." Later revealed that she doesn't relax at all because she simply doesn't know how to, and is always thinking about work.
Calli: I tend to prefer [streaming after teaching] because then I get all my obligations out of the way and can put my feet up and draw, or...[Beat] [to herself] What do I do for fun?
    • She got much better at managing her time by the end of 2021, since she no longer works multiple jobs. But she tends to fill her schedule with streaming whenever she can. It got to the point that she had four streams in one day (one of which was an endurance stream), made a music video, and forgot to sleep. Hololive management forced her to take a full 24-hour break as a result, out of fear for her health.
    • After signing on with Universal Music Group, J-Chad put her foot down and is now enforcing a strict streaming limit on Calli. Calli is no longer allowed to push herself as hard as she has, and negotiated a limit of 3 streams per week, with maybe a fourth for collabs. Even Calli admits that it's for the best for her health.
  • Yandere:
    • During their playthrough of A Way Out, Kiara told Calli that an NPC wanted her number and was hitting on her (he was actually asking for Kiara's character's prisoner number). Without a second of hesitation, Calli wanted to kill him, which surprised even Kiara.
Kiara: He wants my number, Calli, he's hitting on me!
      Calli: Let me kill him.
      Kiara: Eh?! [flustered breathing]
    • During her collaboration with Ina and Kiara for Puyo Puyo Tetris 2, one of Kiara's chat members berated her skill since Kiara was constantly losing. Calli got immediately upset over it.
Calli: Who is it?! I'll fucking kill them!
    • Her "Just Mori" stream, in which she channeled the Big Bad of Doki Doki Literature Club!, trapping her deadbeats in a liminal space and saying things like "you belong to me, after all" and warning her chat not to send any other girl's name in her chat unless they wanted to pay.
    • Takes this above and beyond in Fauna's holoweEN series: after Bae develops a persistent feeling of Being Watched by someone, Calliope tries to help her by ripping out the eyes of all onlookers during a concert, including her own (that last part is probably less debilitating to her than you'd think, since her human body is just a disposable vessel, but still). Worst of all, it does nothing to actually alleviate Bae's feelings because the eyes she feels upon her are watching from far beyond her plane of existence, way outside of Calli's reach.

Other Characters

    Death-sensei

SKIP CLASS, GET RIPPED
Voiced by: Cy Yu

The Grim Reaper himself, and Calli's mentor. He first appeared as Calli's mascot, but would later make a full featured appearance in several of Calli's animations where he is voiced by Cy Yu.

  • Badass Teacher: He taught Calli all she knows about reaping.
  • Been There, Shaped History: He claims to have once saved Alexander Fleming from an early death.
  • Blunt "No": In the Nezumi Scheme MV, this is his initial reaction to Calli revealing that she wants to be a rapper. He comes around in the end, though.
  • Canon Character All Along: Appears in Calli's official bio and also serves as her channel's mascot. Initially, it seemed like Death-sensei existed exclusively as a mascot, but Calli eventually revealed Death-sensei was an actual person being an important figure and mentor in her life growing up and is "like an uncle" to her. He would finally appear in person in the Calli's Christmas Catastrophe shorts and later in Don't Fear the Reaper.
  • Cool Shades: Wears a pair of black sunglasses. In the MV for Nezumi Scheme, he puts on cool orange shades for his dance-off with Calli.
  • Don't Fear the Reaper: Yeah, turns out Calli gets it from her mentor. The title of Calli's lore video matches the trope word-for-word and it applies just as much to Calli as it does to Death-sensei.
"All I know is that at the beginning of it all, souls screamed in agony as they drowned in the sea of souls, desperately clawing for the stairs that lead to what I imagined to be... nothingness. And at some point, I realized that if they're all gonna die anyway, let it be with a comforting little boat ride by some funny skeleton man."
  • The Ghost: While appearing as Calli's mascot and having lines in "Dead Beats" and "Off With Their Heads", he has not made any appearance on Calli's streams, although he is a major character in the holiday short series Calli's Christmas Catastrophe and in the MV for Nezumi Scheme.
  • Grim Reaper: Natch.
  • Honorary Uncle: Calli has described the real-life person that Death-sensei is a stand-in for as being "like an uncle" to her. Notably, when someone in the chat asked if she would kiss Death-sensei, she became so disgusted by the idea that she had to step away from the computer to wash out her mouth. Granted, the excuse she gave was that he was her teacher, but still.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite his role as the Grim Reaper, when Calli asks him for help buying presents for the other girls in the Calli's Christmas Catastrophe shorts, he pulls a prank on her by providing gifts containing food of questionable taste, such as spiders for Amelia. The message he sends Calli also has him asking for "Rapper's 101" for Christmas, and his reaper outfit notably has him wear short pants. In the Nezumi Scheme MV, he is initially staunchly opposed to Calli leaving her post to become a rapper, but once he sees her resolve, he puts her to the test by facing her in a dance-off, finally caving in once she defeats him.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure:
    • The Calli's Christmas Catastrophe shorts show him to be this, as while he urges Calli to remember her role as a reaper and states that he doesn't approve of her making friends in the mortal world, he also sends her a supportive message where he admits that he did the same thing when he was in her position, points out that there's little point in her asking him for advice when it comes to buying Christmas presents for the other girls as she knows them far better than he does, and reminds her that You Are Better Than You Think You Are. In the MV for Nezumi Scheme, it is shown that while he was initially not exactly thrilled at the idea of letting one of his apprentices leave her post to become a rapper, he eventually agreed to let Calli go once he realized she had both the drive and the talent to succeed.
    • In Calli's official lore video, when Calli instinctively saves a young Ame from her fated death, Death-Sensei not only doesn't punish her, but gives her permission to save lives alongside her duty and gives her a vacation.
  • Sinister Scythe: Being who he is, of course he has a massive one of his own. He even puts it to use against Calli herself in the Nezumi Scheme MV when she initially tries to convince him to let her leave the Underworld and become a rapper on Earth.
  • The Nothing After Death: He believes that the stairs to the afterlife lead to this, though even he doesn't know for sure.
  • Trickster Mentor: Despite being the embodiment of death, he is not above making lighthearted fun of his apprentice, as seen from his contribution to "Dead Beats" and his gifts in Calli’s Christmas Catastrophe.

    Calvin Morrison

Calvin Mori/Morrison aka YUNG SH1N1GAM1 B01 aka C-Man

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/calvin_6.jpg
I think they beggin' for the C-Man!

Calli's Spear Counterpart, a shinigami from another dimension. Specializes in Boastful Raps that are So Bad, It's Good (although he doesn't think of them that way).

  • Alternate Universe: During his "debut" stream, he mentioned a few times that he was from another dimension. His second appearance clarifies that he is his universe's version of Calli. Either way, Calli isn't happy to see him.
  • Bad Liar: Calvin frequently boasts and brags about things that are not only untrue, but easily disproven.
    • During his debut stream, Calvin claims that he had killed Calli and taken over her channel. This is impossible, since Calli is The Grim Reaper and thus can't die. Also, Calli was visible in the background of his stream, and could be audibly heard struggling against the ropes that Calvin had tied her up with. Calvin continued to maintain that Calli was dead in spite of all of this for a bit more, until he had to give up the ghost and admit that she was still alive.
    • Calvin's claims of being a total badass need only a little digging beneath the surface to show that he's a Paper Tiger who only acts tough, but is a total wimp. His song "My Reality" is supposedly about fighting an unjust system, but is really about annoying fast food workers over petty grievances.
  • Boastful Rap: His songs are a parody of the concept, especially of subpar Small Name, Big Ego Soundcloud rappers. Calvin boasts about how much of a badass he is, how good of a rapper he is, how much money he has, and how many women want to sleep with him. But even a surface glance at Calvin shows that he can't back up anything he says.
  • Broken Record: When Calvin discusses his streams for the month, he repeats several of the same games over and over.
Calvin: Okay, we'll do Minecraft. And then we'll do Minecraft. After that we'll take a teeny-tiny break and then we'll do Minecraft. After that we'll wait maybe like thirty minutes and then do another Minecraft. After that we'll play Elden Ring, and then we'll do... nah, fuck that, we're doing Minecraft, we're playing Minecraft again. Now after that, we can do, um... Fortni- Minecraft. And then the last stream of the month, I kinda want to kick it off with like, a big banger, you know, kind of end off the week in like, you know, celebrate my debut week with you guys, with like, a kind of show of some sort. So we're gonna play Minecraft.
  • The Bus Came Back: After seemingly just showing up for an April Fools' Day joke, he returns during the week between Tempus's reveal and their debuts, proclaiming himself to be their senpai and "Holostarz [sic] GEN 0".
  • Can't Take Criticism: During one of his streams, Calvin brought up that some people were offering a critique of his songs, which caused him to instantly become aggressive. The criticism wasn't even that bad; just that he was clearly trying to be something he wasn't. Didn't stop Calvin from flying off the handle.
How dare people critique me? How dare they? Like "oh hey Calvin, I really want to see you fly, but you feel like you're not being yourself", FUCK YOU MAN, you think you're really original with those hate comments, I'll beat the shit out of you!
  • Comically Lopsided Rivalry: He thinks of himself as Calli's equal, since he's also an avatar of death, he's from another dimension, and he's a rapper just like she is. However, Calvin is not very good at what he does, and thinks he's better than he really is. It's also rather transparent that Calvin wants to emulate Calli's success, to the point that he asks her about how to be a better rapper when his guard is down.
  • Comically Missing the Point:
    • When Calli tries to give him some genuine advice about rap, what he ends up getting out of it is "if my lyrics are so muffled that it's impossible to understand them anyway, I can get away with putting as little effort as I want into them!"
    • In the second stream, he says he really empathizes with Calli's reaction to hate comments, but it becomes clear that he sees genuine and respectful attempts at constructive criticism as "hate comments".
I really resonated with what Calliope said, about the TikTok comments, right, always the same roast over and over again, kids thinking they're slick, people saying that to me, like "Calvin, you could really improve if you just try to think about your lyrics a little bit more", fuck that shit! Fuck it! That's right, I really related to her when she said that.
  • Creative Sterility: In addition to thinking he's way better than he actually is, Calvin's main flaw as a creator is the fact that he tries to emulate other people and chase trends instead of trying to develop an identity of his own. Calli calls him out on this, but Calvin doubles down on being lazy and terrible instead. In addition to the old and tired tropes on display in his raps, this also shows in his ideas for non-musical streams, which consist of nothing but generically-popular games among streamers such as Apex Legends and Minecraft, as well as Elden Ring, the "hot new thing" at the time of the stream.
  • Does Not Like Spam: Downplayed. He hates mayonnaise, but only if it's on a chicken sandwich. Otherwise, mayonnaise is fine.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: More like "Even Jerks Have Loved Ones". In his second stream, he gets emotional hearing "Street FITE" and genuinely laments his lost friendship with Hayko.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Despite being overall a bit of a jerk, he still worries about getting Calli and her channel in trouble in "Street FITE", since it's an idol channel and they have to be careful about what they say.
  • First-World Problems: His rap "My Reality" is all about his bad experience at a fast food restaurant, such as not getting his food quick enough. He also calls the staff disrespectful, but it's with a Self-Serving Memory, as he was being an annoying customer the whole time with yelling at the staff and demanding his food quicker than everyone else. Calvin treats being kicked out of the restaurant as being kept down by an oppressive system, when it was wholly deserved for the way that Calvin was acting.
  • Hate Sink: Downplayed. Calvin was created with the intention that the audience would find him not necessarily hateable, but certainly annoying. He writes Boastful Rap songs that are easily debunked as false or just make him look even worse. While not terrible as a rapper, he uses rap tropes that have been done to death or make him come off as a weak-willed poseur. He kidnaps Calli and does a Hostile Show Takeover of her stream. He insults people in the livechat and admits that he's not going to read any superchats, but he'll leave them on because he wants the money. Rather than try and establish his own identity as either a rapper or a streamer, Calvin goes trend-chasing, doing only the hot new thing of the moment because he wants the attention. He repeatedly insults Calli, calling her a "bitch" several times, despite the fact that he feels like she's way better and wishes that he had anything close to her talent. Finally, he takes the wrong lesson when Calli tries to help him, believing that he should just put in as little effort as possible into his music. Ultimately, though, he is too over-the-top-hilarious to be truly hateable, and even scored a surprisingly high number of votes in the poll for control over Calli's channel (even though most of these were probably ironic).invoked
  • Heh Heh, You Said "X": "C-Man" sounds like "semen", which the lyrics of his songs use for Cringe Comedy. Unintentional cringe comedy at that, as Calvin seems to have missed the memo and considers "C-Man" to be a genuinely badass nickname.
  • Hostile Show Takeover: He takes over Calli's channel for one stream for April Fools 2022. Calli is thoroughly unimpressed. He returns on July 19, 2022, to proclaim himself Holostars Gen 0 (as Tempus had just been revealed three days earlier and would be debuting a few days hence), and is again dispatched by Calli fairly easily.
  • I Just Want to Be You: For all of his bragging and insults towards Calli, Calvin knows that she's the better talent. Once Calli gets herself free enough to talk to him, Calvin tacitly admits that he can't hold a candle to Calli, and outright asks her how to be a better rapper. Calli says that it comes from eating some Humble Pie and developing his own identity. Calvin takes the wrong lesson from this, thinking it means he should put even less effort into his songs because lyrics don't matter.
  • Innocently Insensitive: His political incorrectness is pretty mild in the grand scheme of things, but rapping about being from "the hood" despite being a white guy who has probably never even been to the projects in his life is definitely tone-deaf and can be seen as cultural appropriation. This is, of course, part of Calvin's gimmick as a shitty rapper.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: Late into his debut stream, Calvin seems like he's let his guard down and admitted that Calli is way better than him, and that he's jealous of her. Calli says that Calvin isn't a lost cause, and that if he can put in more effort to find his own identity, he might just be onto something with his music. Calvin takes the wrong lesson from this, coming up with a Stylistic Suck music video on the spot and going right back to his usual Paper Tiger routine as soon as there's even a sliver of a chance that he can pull it off.
  • No Such Thing as Bad Publicity: Seems to espouse this view:
You know what they say: "the more haters you got, the more people love you!" Wait, maybe... hold on, that's actually... actually I don't think that's true, that actually might be wrong, but... that means you're famous!
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: Despite being generally incompetent, he managed to incapacitate Calli for one stream (although according to Calli, he only managed to pull it off because she was stunned from the sheer nerve that it took for him to kidnap her). He is also, by Calli's own admission, fairly entertaining as a comedy rapper, with Calli and fans comparing Calvin's work to that of The Lonely Island, and Calli seeing strong parallels between him and PolitikZ. Calvin is just not the gangsta rapper he thinks he is. Not to mention, when he held a poll to determine who would keep control of the channel from now on, Calli only won 51% to 49%.
  • Paper Tiger: For all of his talk about being a badass and a real gangster, Calvin is really a total wimp. One of his songs is all about the First-World Problems of complaining about food service at a restaurant. Also, his debut stream was him constantly claiming that Calli was dead (which is impossible, since she's The Grim Reaper), despite Calli's struggling being audible to the point that Calvin has to give up the ghost.
  • The Rival: Fashions himself one to Calliope, who evidently doesn't think very much of him.
  • Sir Swears-a-Lot: While Calli isn't averse to swearing, Calvin uses far more cuss words than she does, using the words "fuck" and "shit" in most of his sentences. It's done to highlight his mindset, since he thinks it makes him sound tough and badass when it just makes him look immature.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: He thinks of himself as a badass, big-name gangsta rapper. His songs beg to disagree, to the point that Calli outright says that people are laughing at Calvin's songs because of how bad they are. Too bad for Calli that Calvin ends up Comically Missing the Point, thinking that this means he can put in as little effort as possible into his songs.
  • Stylistic Suck: His songs are corny and filled with generic lyrics (that Calvin thought were super cool), being parodies of the Boastful Rap genre.
    • "C-Man" relies heavily on the fact that "C-Man" sounds like "semen" for Cringe Comedy, and also sees Calvin pee in the studio, then run out of rhymes and resort to desperately asking when the hook starts.
    • "Street FITE" has Calvin breaking his badass façade due to worrying that his proclamations such as "We sell DRUGS!" will get Calli in trouble. He also manages to get in a fight with fellow Spear Counterpart "Hayko" mid-song.
    • "My Reality" is framed as an epic struggle against a tyrannical establishment, but is really just about Calvin getting kicked out of a fast food restaurant for being a jerk to the staff.
    • During his debut stream, Calvin didn't have a 3D model; he just had a series of still images that he dragged all around the screen to make it look like he was moving. Calvin was also clearly insecure despite his "tough guy" act, and was nowhere near ready to stream. When Calli broke free and tried to give him advice about rapping, Calvin ended up Comically Missing the Point and creating an intentionally bad rap song because he thought it meant that his lyrics didn't matter.
    • His second stream reused the same series of still images, but also had an overlay of fire and dollar bill signs, making it hard to see what was going on. Also, he put sunglasses over his model, but couldn't figure out how to make them move with him for a bit, and repeatedly fumbled with his layout.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Fast-food chicken sandwiches. One of his songs is about ordering one, and he lists it as one of his likes in a debut stream.
    • In "Money (Hand Me the Glock)", he claims that his favorite dish is "probably steak and potaters".

"Well hi, all you deadbeat fans. How are y'all doing?"
Illustrator: RehanZ ("official"), Various
Appears in: Mori Calliope Ch.

Calliope's real-life mother, who agreed to let Calli introduce her to the world in May of 2022.
  • Absurdly Youthful Mother: At the very least applies to her character model, where she looks young enough to pass for Calli's sister. When they met during Myth's June 2022 off-collab, Ina got this exact impression, suggesting that at the very least this aspect of her character model is true to life, and partly because of Mama Mori's sense of fashion as well.
Ina: Calli, that's your mom, not your sister?
  • Amazingly Embarrassing Parents: Papa Mori and her can be this at times such as when Mama Mori would tell others about how Calli's a famous VTuber and Calli has to tell her to shut up because she fears she might get in trouble.
  • Deep South: She has a very prominent Texan accent, as commented on by the chat. She said such things as "howdy" and "how are y'all doing?" during her debut as well.
  • Depending on the Artist: Invoked by Calli, who gave the deadbeats general parameters to draw up Mama Mori's appearance: pink hair, elements of the Reaper aesthetic, and just a touch of Hot Witch. Mama Mori became overwhelmed that she couldn't decide on any one appearance, so Calli picked one for her debut stream and decided to just use them all and switch them out if she ever appears again in future streams.
  • The Gambler: Admits that she can become completely lost in playing Blackjack. People often have to remind her how much time has passed and pull her away.
  • The Gadfly: She certainly has a bit of a troll-like nature, and likes hiding how much she knows about certain memes and lore behind fake ignorance of them. However, it's all in good fun.
  • Good Parents: Her debut shows that Calli and her have a very good relationship. Even before the reveal, it was implied that the two were close despite the long distance apart.
  • Happily Married: When fans asked if she was single, Calli tells her that Papa Mori still loves her and vice versa, and that Mama Mori wasn't looking to change that.
  • Kind Hearted Cat Lover: Admits that if she were to become a streamer in some capacity, she would want to make a channel dedicated to content focusing around cats. The Mori family has a shorthair named Beelzebub.
  • Like Mother, Like Daughter: Calli gets her musical talent from her mother, who was inspired to become a singer by Madonna, and went through numerous bands and gigs in her lifetime. Also like her daughter, Mama Mori also has a preference for energy drinks, with her favorite being Red Bull.
  • Must Have Caffeine: Mama Mori basically runs on energy drinks and coffee, and has to have a stable supply of caffeine or she will collapse from exhaustion. This is quite at odds with Calli, who can potentially overdose on caffeine if she's not careful because her body can't handle large amounts of it.
  • The Older Immortal: Naturally due to her being Calli's mom, who herself is The Ageless.
  • Single Woman Seeks Good Man: When asked about how she fell in love with Papa Mori, she says his kindness is the reason why.
  • Shout-Out: Her name is Andora, a nod to Endora, the main antagonist of the 1960s sitcom Bewitched.
  • Vocal Dissonance: Many have commented that Calli's mom sounds younger than Calli herself, having a higher-pitched and softer voice.

Appears in: Mori Calliope Ch.

Calli's Super-Deformed counterpart. Like Smol Ame and Smol Ina before her, Smol Calli started out as the regular Calliope's chibi appearance designed by Walfie, and made her debut as part of Myth's 2021 April Fools group collab, before splitting off into her own entity.
  • Ax-Crazy: Calli's has made some short reels on her channel that have often depicted Smol Calli as little more than a complete agent of chaos— an implacable psychopathic gremlin whose only purpose in life is to inflict sheer terror and misery on Calli.
  • Decomposite Character: As mentioned, Smol Calli was originally just an alternate streaming avatar that the regular Calli would use, though she would eventually split off to become her own entity as of summer 2023, where she would appear as a recurring villain who menaces her larger counterpart in animated shorts.
  • Establishing Character Moment: When we first see her in the "weird cat" short, she's standing in Calli's backyard (with cat ears), just staring at her. Despite Calli yelling and telling her to leave, she still quietly stares at her... until she pulls out a knife and approaches Calli.
  • Made of Iron: Her appearances in Calli's shorts typically depict her as being unusually tough, such that being rapidly slashed by the reaper or even taking a point-blank grenade explosion to the face wouldn't cause her any real damage.
  • The Voiceless: Notably unlike her fellow Smols, Smol Calli is entirely mute.
