Tear Jerker / Monster Legends

  • Most Forsaken monsters in the game. Every single monster in this category has a backstory involving them becoming forsaken in some way. These stories are not Played for Laughs at all, and give some truly depressing insight into the monster's lives, especially when you look at their extended descriptions on Socialpoint's own forums. In chronological order:
    • Wildbird was once trusted with guarding a legendary garden of golden apple seeds that were used to fuel portals to alternate dimensions. The task was a lonely one, and this was noticed by another monster named Zunobia, who decided to stop by on occasion and spend some time with Wildbird, making him fall madly in love with her in the process with her charms. The problem; Zunobia is also a master thief, and was coming by to eventually take the golden seeds Wildbird was protecting. Eventually, Zunobia used Wildbird's crush on her to trick him into letting her in the garden, and while he wasn't looking, she took every single seed there was, leaving Wildbird betrayed, deeply saddened, and forsaken.
    • Wickah is the representative of the swamps in the Cardinal Forest, and was meant to be the one who would speak for that part of the area when important matters were being discussed. However, not once, even despite a sudden mass of said important matters appearing, was she ever contacted for meetings with the Nature Council, and all for the flimsy excuse of "the swamp isn't as radiant as the rest of the forest." This doesn't seem quite that bad until you realize how similar this scenario is to downright racism. Let's just say there's a good reason she decides to take revenge.
    • Crabbydroid might be the saddest case of them all. His backstory starts immediately with his family dying due to ocean pollution, thanks to the carelessness of Global Mech Ltd. Crabbydroid decides to get vengeance by building a robotic exoskeleton for himself out of the trash that orphaned him...and this proceeds to get him shunned by every other crab he knew, becoming known as a freak and isolated from all of society.
    • Thundeer, one of the 2019 Christmas special monsters, once basically served as Santa Claus for the monster world (let's just ignore Panda Claus here), until the day he got struck by lightning. He surprisingly didn't die from this, and even got super-cool lightning powers, but the shock also changed his appearance into one so horrifying, the mere sight of him would just about traumatize any child who looked at him. This thankfully takes a turn to heartwarming when he relays these woes to master mechanic Ingenica, and she crafts him a robot Santa Claus to do the delivering for him.
    • Nisael is...dead. Specifically, when he lived as Ismael, he was separated from his brother Samael by the Dark General Nishant and brutally crushed into cells. Those cells were then recrafted with Dark magic, turning him into the zombified puppet he is now. This was especially not fun for his brother, who betrayed the side of good to attain information on where he could find Nisael in the hopes of reviving him one day, only to be discovered and kicked out, forced to join with the Evil legions to find his brother again.
    • Zenfira was once a bright, happy young centaur child who, one day, decided to follow a group of adult Nature monsters on a brief expedition into Hell. Unfortunately, no one ever noticed she was following them, and when they left, they ended up leaving her behind. They never came back for her, either, so the child was forced to spend her days growing up in Hell, eventually becoming a spirit of pure hatred who's forgotten how to love.
    • Rubellus was the king of a kingdom of mushrooms who became so thanks to being the most powerful of them all. He thought nobody would dare question his authority until he noticed one day that one of his subjects was planning a coup on him. He punished said subject brutally by eating them whole, which would have been bad enough if the subject's body wasn't covered in hallucinogens. Thanks to these, Rubellus then became paranoid, believing that everyone in his kingdom was a traitor, and in a fit of insanity, he eventually ate every single one of them. This, of course, bit him in the ass when he finished off the last citizen and realized that his whole kingdom was gone.
    • PZ Ronin was once a member of the hacking crew led by Zorgon, until Zorgon decided to start his mission to steal the information of every monster in the known world. Ronin was reluctant to allow this mission to go on, and was instantly kicked out of the group for not siding with Zorgon 100%. Fortunately, this allowed him to become a sort of vigilante warning the owner of the databases, Hackster, against Zorgon's attack, so it's not all bad for him.
    • Lamia used to be the strongest battler in a foreign city of dragons, until she got bored and decided to learn some more advanced techniques to spice up her fights. She was then practically kicked out of the city by the other dragons, as they didn't approve of her change, and she had to find a new challenge in Monster Legends. All because she got bored.
    • Korruptus was the king of a city of gold known as Plithora, universally loved and respected by his subjects. However, once the city was found to have such extreme wealth, it began receiving constant attacks, and Korruptus, desperate to defend his city, turned to black magic. If you've seen this game's Fridge Horror section, you already know this went badly, and Korruptus had to be quickly dethroned, and eventually imprisoned.
  • Kronxian Guard was once a father to a very young (unnamed) girl, but he was sent spiraling into sadness after the kid was hit by a stray blast in a nearby battle and died. The experience ended up scarring Guard so badly that he resorted to going to a time traveller, Kronx, and becoming her guard for eternity just to see his daughter again.
  • Similarly to the above, the Mythic monster Svart was also separated from a daughter of his, and yet his tale is somehow even more depressing. While nobody died in his story, Svart's face was burnt off in the middle of battle, and the horrifying image it left scared his daughter so much that he had no choice but to leave her forever. Even worse, according to his extended backstory, the grief he felt caused him to turn to evil despite his attempted resistance.
  • The Dreamer is the name of a Cosmic monster with the most recent in child-parent separation backstories, and it remains just as heartshattering as the last two. As opposed to being the parent, the Dreamer is just a little girl...whose parents are both dead, leaving her to be alone all of her life. Even worse, she was left a dreamcatcher after she became orphaned, and she used it to enter a perfect dreamscape every night when she sleeps. However, it still didn't do anything about how alone she felt. Even if her tale becomes heartwarming once you combine it with that of fellow Cosmic Lightmare, it's still rather saddening to read about.
  • The fall of Voltaik to his ego and corruption. Seeing the once great hero now reduced to a delusional supervillain who still believes himself to be a superhero, and the toll it takes on his relationship with his friends, as well as his relationship with his girlfriend, who breaks up with him when she see what happened.
