Oh boy, this game has a lot of references. As in, a lot of references. So much so, they have to be split up into a couple of categories, and even then, there are a lot in each of those categories.

Multiple Categories
- Anton Acorne is a relaxed pirate with a chill attitude that doesn't strip away his battle skills, and his design includes a tropical yellow shirt, green shorts, and a straw hat.
- Soap Sam is a mutated sea sponge designed more closely to a kitchen sponge, and was once as cheerful and jolly as can be. Every one of his attacks is also a reference to something said or done in the show (including a direct name-drop to Squidward), and his Special skill even summons giant Krabby Patties. As a bit of Fridge Brilliance, too, he was released in the same event as another monster based on a sea star.
- Sting Westclaw is partially based on various Clint Eastwood films (Specifically, A Fistful of Dollars, Unforgiven, Dirty Harry, and Sudden Impact)
- If its name wasn't a clear enough indicator, TomSka's Mine Turtle is entirely one to TomSka's ASDF Movie, with its function and its moves' names being references as well.
