Headscratchers / Pokémon Uranium

  • Was it ever explained why Curie was apparently immune to radiation? For several minutes she stands near a Pokemon that gives off enough radioactivity that even with a specialized suit you can only be in the area for a few minutes, and yet she suffers no ill effects?
    • It's entirely likely that her suit was designed to be immune to radiation. Also, she is Urayne's trainer, and Urayne seems to be able to control how much radiation it absorbs/releases in its beta form, so it could have created a "safe zone" for her that was less radioactive as long as she stayed close enough. Basically, the opposite of an "Instant Death" Radius; if she got too far away, Urayne might not be able to control how much the radiation was affecting her.
    • The tech for the hazard suit seems relatively recent, so I have to doubt that it was the suit since she obtained it a decade prior. And I can buy the latter excuse for Beta Urayne, but Gamma Urayne, which surrounds the area in Chernobyl-level fallout (Not Hyperbole, the ability that triggers this is called "Chernobyl"), has less of an excuse.
    • It's mentioned at one point that the technology was based on the Aqua and Magma Suits. While it's unclear exactly where the Ranger games fit into canon chronology, the time skip between Shadows of Almia and Lucille's disappearance is big enough that it's plausible for the tech to have been in existence at the time.

  • Speaking of CURIE's suit, where did she get it? Something that strong wouldn't have been easy to come by, and she only had the helmet when she went into stasis. Even if she managed to survive the Epsilon explosion without it, she had to get it from somewhere before you see her clothed in it.

  • Theo gets Nucleon, which only evolves from Eevee if it's leveled up to 20 or higher with a Nuclear type in the party. Since the only areas you encounter wild Nuclear Pokémon before seeing him with it are areas he's hurried out of, when did he catch one?
  • Why does CURIE send Tandor into a "100 year nuclear winter" in the Zeta plant Game Over? Nuclear winter requires massive nuclear detonations. If all she needs is a steady supply of nuclear fuel, wouldn't it be in her best interests to not waste uranium by blowing it up?
    • Her dialogue right before you fight her at the Championship outright says she's out to destroy Tandor.
      • That's after the encounter at Power Plant Zeta, where she says she only wants to keep you hostage so the Rangers will give her fuel. While it's possible for her motivations to change between those points, her actions at Zeta actively conflict with her stated motivations at that point.
      • Maybe Urayne bit off more than he could chew in his desperation, and the nuclear winter was the end consequence of the resulting Power Incontinence?
  • If you choose Eletux as your starter, Theo will never have a Pokémon that can learn Surf. How is he traveling from place to place in East Tandor? Similarly, if you choose Orchynx, he'll never have a Pokémon that can learn Fly, yet he'll still fly away immediately upon receiving the Fly HM.
    • Only explanation I can think of is that maybe the guy in Legen Town who hates HMs came up with something for him.
      • I can buy that for Surf, but considering you can't get the item counterpart to Fly until you become champion, that just raises the question of how Theo got a hold of it before you could.
      • Maybe Cameron had one, or something like it? I'm grasping at straws, I know...
      • He complains about "Surfing and diving everywhere" right before he gets the HM and flies away. Cameron could not have given it to him at that point.
      • Then it was probably the power of plot.
    • He has HM slaves, you just never see them because he keeps them in the PC most of the time?
  • Once all three power plants have been shut down, how does everyone still have electricity?
    • Maybe through fossil fuels or electric Pokémon. Although they've mentioned they don't like using those methods, desperate times likely call for desperate measures.
    • Actually, Nuclear Plant Zeta does not meltdown so it is still functioning. (You can return there.)
