Go To

The Season's My Reason is a Pretty Cure fanfic primarily based on Delicious Party♡Pretty Cure. Penned by NoonboryKedabory, it began publication on February 24th, 2023 and is currently a Completed Fic with 23 chapters.

After Rosemary suddenly falls ill from a gastric infection, Yui is told of a newborn Recipepe which is a Papaya Yogurt one, who has gotten lost. Believing her to be the cure, she sets out on a solo quest to find her, guided by a guardian angel named Seraphina.

On July 5th, 2023, Seraphina took the lead role in a sequel, Seraphina's Tea Quest.

Tropes:

  • Adaptational Gender Identity: Like in Kedabory's Elmore Chronicles, Sybil Small is presented as nonbinary (they/them), instead of a cisgender man (he/him) like in canon.
  • Appetite Equals Health: Rosemary's illness is discovered via him being unable to eat breakfast due to nausea. Of course, coming from a food-based kingdom and being a Big Eater, this terrifies him.
  • Big Bad: Chef Forgifta who steals ingredients to make poison dishes and can possess others. As it turns out, he is a human chef named Akamatsu Antoni who was possessed by a ghost.
  • Big Damn Heroes: Several characters from previous chapters such as the previous Pretty Cures, Ami and Luz arrive to help beat Chef Forgifta in the final battle.
  • Broken Tears: Yui cries these in Chapter 17 when she's told by Bruno that she still has to continue her quest when she thought it was over and she could return home.
  • The Cameo:
    • Before Yui arrives in Storybrooke Village, Seraphina briefly visits Whisper and Luz Noceda to ask if they've seen the lost Recipepe.
    • Bruno appears in the at the end of the The Princess and the Frog chapter and the start of the Mario Kart chapter to tell Yui about Chef Forgifta.
    • Theresa appears in the epilogue, explaining to Bear what finding a lily means after Treelo points it out when he returns from the Pretty Cure dimension.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: The most Miss Sunshine does in Chapter 10 to help Yui is muse about wearing a tiara in the past.
  • Comically Missing the Point: During the Delicious chapter, Paige and Yui call up some characters from that game and Fabulous to see if they've seen the Papaya Yogurt Recipepe. This conversation ensues when Yui rings up Angela:
Yui: Hello, do you have any papaya yoghurt?
Angela: They make that? I should try it, thanks for the suggestion!
    Yui: Oh. Uh- you’re welcome.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: Chef Forgifta does not last very long when the Pretty Cures and their allies attack him.
  • Delicate and Sickly: Rosemary's illness makes him very weak, combined with his usual overemotional personality makes him very fragile.
  • Dwindling Party: In later chapters, more Cures (ex. Ichika, Sora) come down with the same infection as Rosemary.
  • Exact Words: During the final battle with Chef Forgifta, Seraphina charges towards the rainbow portal and says "Anyone who has ever fought for the side of good, come to us now!" Cue the portal listening to her and dropping Treelo on Forgifta's head.
  • Foreshadowing:Chef Forgifta appears in the prologue, giving Yui the poison dish that starts the plot when Rosemary eats it and falls ill.
  • Friend to All Children: Baby characters (ex. Hugtan, Elle-chan, Chiffon) all love Rosemary; Chapter 14 attributes this to his soft skin and sweet scent.
  • Growling Gut: Rosemary's stomach pain often expresses itself loudly.
  • Halfway Plot Switch: The story starts with Yui and Seraphina having to track down the missing Recipepe before finding out it's at Tiana's Palace with the aid of the Super Why! gang. After the duo succeed in getting the Recipepe from Tiana, they then have to hop universes again to stop Chef Forgifta, finishing with a big final battle.
  • Last Episode, New Character: Treelo appears in The Final Battle and Bear and Theresa appear in the Epilogue.
  • Lemony Narrator: In Chapter 8, the narrator says "Indeed, a tragedy that the little Recipepe could not enter my world." after it's revealed that she was one of the ones Seraphina asked if they had seen the lost Recipepe.
  • Level Ate: In Chapter 17, Yui and Seraphina visit Cheese Land (though it's based off its appearance in Mario Kart 8).
  • Massive Multiplayer Crossover: While the fic is primarily based on Delicious Party♡Pretty Cure, it also features characters from The Amazing World of Gumball, Barbie & The Diamond Castle, Barbie Big City Big Dreams, Bear in the Big Blue House, Bluey, Delicious, Encanto, Fresh Pretty Cure!, Glitter Force: Into the Glitterverse, Healin' Good♡Pretty Cure, Hirogaru Sky! Pretty Cure, HuGtto! Pretty Cure, Lalaloopsy, Ma Fille, Mario Kart, The Mr. Men Show, My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, The Princess and the Frog, Punch-Out!!, Rainbow Magic, Sailor Moon, Sew Cute Pretty Cure, Skylanders, Skylanders: Return to the Ruins, Super Why!, Tropical-Rouge! Pretty Cure, and Yes! Pretty Cure 5.
  • Megaton Punch: One of the most common attacks used by the heroes.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Not so much "gag", but Emily tells Yui about the events of Delicious: Emily's Hopes and Fears, where Patrick had to search the world for a cure for a sick Paige, echoing Yui's situation.
    • When King Hippo and Katrina discuss their previous visitors, Kevin Keene is briefly mentioned.
    • Usagi discusses going through a similar ordeal as the Glitter Force called "Cloverway" (as in the company who made the infamous 90s English dub of her series).
  • News Travels Fast: Yui says this in Chapter 10 after Usagi recognizes the former as a Pretty Cure and says it's because she heard about the Cure's run in with The Glitter Force.
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: In Chapter 8, Nozomi overhears some yelling and shouts of "Push!" coming from a hospital room and mistakes it for a birth. In reality, Chiyu was trying to push Manatsu through a tunnel she got stuck in, and Sango was yelling while trying to squish a bug.
  • Poisonous Person: Chef Forgifta's main ability, whether it's creating poison dishes or summoning a poison shield. Thankfully, Ami and Isabela Madrigal's powers allow them to get rid of the poison.
  • Queer Establishing Moment: Rosemary is revealed to be gay when his boyfriend visits his hospital room with flowers.
  • Sick Episode: Due to the effects of the infection/possible poisoning, Rosemary spends the majority of the fic in the hospital, suffering from severe illness.
  • Soup Is Medicine: In Chapter 8, Chiyu makes okayu with ginger and honey for Rosemary, who hadn't eaten in days at that point.
  • Tempting Fate: In Chapter 10, Principal Brown tries to tell Sybil Small the universe isn't going to collapse...and then Yui and Seraphina fly through screaming. Sybil takes this as proof that the universe is going to collapse.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: In Chapter 10, because of their paranoia about the universe collapsing, Sybil Small is curled up under their desk with their knees to their chest.
  • Wham Line: Just when it seems like the conflict has been resolved and Yui can go home, we get the final line, both in terms of the line itself and who says it:
Listen, you might not know who I am, or where I come from. But my name is Bruno Madrigal. And your quest isn’t over yet.
  • Wingding Eyes: Rosemary is said to be "spiral-eyed" after all the commotion going on around him.
  • Yank the Dog's Chain: Chapter 17 ends with Yui and Seraphina finally ready to go home after getting the Recipepe from Tiana and cure Rosemary and then Bruno Madrigal shows up telling them their quest isn't over yet. Chapter 18 has him revealing the existence of Chef Forgifta who is stealing ingredients to create poison dishes.
