Michael Nightingale mostly appeared in cameo roles throughout the thirteen films he appeared in, either saying a few lines or nothing at all. Mostly, he is a face on the Carry On screen that the audience will easily recognize throughout all the films he appears in, even though many probably wouldn't know his name.

    Bill Owen

    Julian Holloway

Julian Holloway

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/julian_holloway.jpg

Julian Holloway appears in eight films in the series, mostly as bit characters or a member of Sid James' Ragtag Bunch of Misfits. Unlike many recurring actors, he gets a fair amount more of screentime and a couple of lines.

  • Blue Oni, Red Oni: The blue to CPT Keene's red.
  • Butt-Monkey: Shorthouse sometimes, mostly being put down by Sir Sidney.
  • The Cameo: Many of his roles.
  • Deadpan Snarker: MAJ Shorthouse, especially when Sir Sidney starts to get visits from Indian women from the Khasi's harem.
  • Dirty Old Man: Not really, but Sir Thomas willingly going "hunting" for young attractive women to have his and his posse's ways with certainly qualifies. Other roles vary.
  • Majorly Awesome: Major Shorthouse, although he doesn't do anything in the war until the climax.
  • Nice Guy
  • Only One Name: Simmons, Shorthouse, Adrian, Roger, Sir Thomas and MAJ Butcher.

    Eric Barker

Eric Barker

Often being called one of the Pete Bests by some of the fans, Eric Barker appeared in four movies, notably being one of the only actors that appeared in the first and last film (barring the failed revival film). He mostly portrayed sensible characters that had to take annoying Replacement Goldfish under his wing.

    Cyril Chamberlain

Cyril Chamberlain

Cyril Chamberlain appeared in seven films in the series, making brief appearances as side characters or just cameos in the background.

    Valerie Leon

Valerie Leon

Valerie Leon appeared in six films. Like Holloway, she mostly had bit parts that had a fair amount of screentime with a decent amount of lines. She's probably one of the only recurring characters that the viewers will remember seeing.

Margaret Nolan appeared in six movies, mostly portraying background characters that wore revealing outfits and was lusted after by other male characters. She sometimes had scenes of her own with a couple of lines but was mostly there to either be a love interest, a single-scene joke that's never mentioned again or a person in the background that might say something here and there.

    Esma Cannon

Esma Cannon

    Jon Pertwee

Jon Pertwee

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_jon_pertwee.jpg

Jon Pertwee appeared in four films in the series, mostly playing background characters that were mostly plot devices that usually had one or two scenes.

  • The Cameo: All of his appearances. It's played straight in his last appearance, considering with the first three films, he hadn't been the Doctor yet.
  • Handicapped Badass: The Sheriff is played off as this, considering that he has poor eyesight (so poor that sometimes his glasses aren't helpful) and that he is deaf in one ear. But he's so helpless, he gets shot within about five minutes of his appearance by the Rumpo Kid.
  • Fortune Teller: The soothsayer, who's also a mild Mad Oracle.
  • Mad Scientist: Dr Fettle, who is killed by his own creation.
  • Messy Hair/Quirky Curls: Jumps between the two, depending on the character.
  • The Sheriff: The Sheriff; later shot dead by the Rumpo Kid.

    Frankie Howerd

Frankie Howerd

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/frankie_howerd.jpg

Frankie Howerd appeared in two movies in the series. He was originally brought in as a Special Guest after the two movies before hadn't done as well as expected at the box office, but eventually became a "recurring" actor (even though he was in two movies) because of his celebrity status as a popular comedian. Some people like to joke that he was actually "only playing Frankie Howerd" because of how flamboyant and eccentric his characters were.

  • All Men Are Perverts: Inigo is a mild one. He only has one moment when he becomes aroused over watching Lady Bagley having her shower in the trees, and immediately takes a drug to stop his urges.
  • Annoying Patient: Francis didn't believe in medical science and tried to stay as far away from the NHS services as he could. When he has to face up to them, he treats the doctors like idiots, moans and complains and annoys other patients around him.
  • Camp Straight: Probably due to Howerd's sexuality, both of his characters are the embodiment of this.
  • The Danza: invoked Francis.
  • Injected in the Ass: Francis' (unnecessarily) rowdy behavior makes Dr Kilmore trip over his pillow with a syringe in his hand, which lands up his ass.
  • The Professor: Inigo.
  • Science Is Useless: Francis believes this for definite, optioning for positive thinking and household remedies.
  • Surrounded by Idiots: Francis carries this attitude around all the doctors and nurses he meets, and openly sneers at all the other patients in the ward that are grateful to the staff for making them well again.

    June Whitfield

June Whitfield

June Whitfield appeared in four movies in the series, mostly taking main and supporting roles.

  • All Women Are Prudes:
    • Evelyn is very uptight with everything and hasn't touched her husband in ages, to the point where she doesn't realise that he's intending for them to be intimate on this holiday. She also makes him leave the room as she is changing out of her travelling clothes.
    • Augusta is on the verge of being accused as this by other men for being against a beauty contest featuring models in revealing outfits.
  • The Cameo: As Meg and the Queen of Spain.
  • Straw Feminist: Augusta isn't man-hating like most characters of this trope are, but she is against the idea of a beauty contest because it'll excuse some of them in the audience to objectify young women in society.
  • The Teetotaler: Evelyn tried alcohol before and didn't like it.
Vic Flange: [under his breath, to his wife] Strange.
Evelyn Blunt: Not really. My daughter is just the same.
Vic Flange: Your only child, I presume.

    Bernard Cribbins

Bernard Cribbins

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rsz_bernard_cribbins.gif

Bernard Cribbins appeared in three movies in the series. He portrayed main characters that were usually caught up in a predicament.

  • The Cameo: As Mordecai.
  • Mummy's Boy: Possibly with Albert, who references his mother quite a lot.
  • Nice Guy
  • Only Sane Man:
    • Harold Crump, when having to work with the likes of the self-centred idiotic Desmond Simpkins and the clueless Charlie Bind.
    • Albert, when working with the absent-minded Walter Sweetly and the nervous wreck CPT Fearless.
  • Press-Ganged: Albert is knocked out by Sally, has his clothes stolen and then he's knocked out again and wakes up on a naval ship.
  • Sweet on Polly Oliver: Averted with Albert, who starts to have feelings for Sally once she removes her disguise.
  • Surrounded by Idiots

    Liz Fraser

Liz Fraser

Liz Fraser appeared in four films in the series. She mostly portrayed attractive single women that were mostly independent and didn't focus greatly on getting with a man.

    Kenneth Cope

Kenneth Cope

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kenneth_cope.gif
Portrayed: Vic Spanner and Cyril Carter.

Kenneth Cope appeared in two films in the series with leading roles.

  • Basement-Dweller: In a way. Vic still lives with his mother, who is constantly ashamed of him whenever he organises a strike.
  • Dragged into Drag: Cyril is made to dress up as a female intern at the hospital his father's trying to steal from, getting unwanted attention from Dr Prodd.
  • It's All About Me: Vic Spanner abuses his power as a union leader to have a free day off, claiming that his work's on strike. The other workers are getting sick of it.
  • The Napoleon: A mild version as Vic, because he's more of an emotional manipulator.
  • Nice Guy: Cyril. Vic, not so much.
  • Like Father, Unlike Son: Cyril knows that his dad's business ways are illegal and hopes to persue a career in insurance, which is why Sid constantly uses Cyril's mother's deathbed as emotional blackmail to get him to do what he wants.
  • Shorter Means Smarter: Vic Spanner to Bernie Hulke, although Bernie isn't really stupid.

    Amanda Barrie

Amanda Barrie

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/amanda_barrie.jpg
Portrayed: Anthea and Cleopatra.

Amanda Barrie appeared in two films in the series, her most memorable role being when she portrayed the attractive Cleopatra.

  • Brainy Brunette: Cleopatra, who organizes practically the entirety of Caesar's murder with Marc Antony.
  • The Cameo: Her debut appearance was this when she was a taxi driver for Peggy's rival company.
  • Lady Macbeth: Cleopatra, once she got Marc Antony's attention. She bullies him, much like the trope namer did to her husband, but mostly through flirtatious stealth insults.

    Angela Douglas

Angela Douglas

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/angela_douglas.jpg

Angela Douglas appeared in four films in the series. She mostly portrayed powerful women or royalists, but was very rarely a damsel in distress, even though the character put themselves in danger a lot.

  • Action Girl: Sort of with most of her characters.
  • Cowgirl: Annie Oakley.
  • Daddy's Girl:
    • Annie Oakley (finds out her father's been murdered and travels across the US to avenge his death) and Princess Jelhi (by her father's side all the time).
    • Princess Jelhi to the Khasi, even though she doesn't agree with his actions.
  • Heel–Face Turn: Princess Jelhi betrays her father by telling the British governors about his plans to run them out of India.
  • Mighty Whitey and Mellow Yellow: Princess Jelhi to CPT Keene, although Jelhi is more of a Royals Who Actually Do Something type.
  • Nice Girl: All her roles are this.
  • Sex for Services: In a way, Annie Oakley does this, but she only flirts with the Rumpo Kid in order to get information about her father's murder.

    Dilys Laye

Dilys Laye

Dilys Laye appeared in four movies in the series, varying between a main and a supporting character.

    Jimmy Logan

Jimmy Logan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/jimmy_logan_carry_on_abroad_1972.jpg
Portrayed: Bert Conway and Cecil Gaybody.

Jimmy Logan appeared in two films in the series, firstly showing up as a special guest and then just as a brief cameo.

  • The Cameo: As Gaybody the photographer.
  • Camp Gay: Cecil, implied.
  • Dirty Old Man: Bert is in a way, even though Sophie isn't the age of a teenager. He even points out that he'd never go after young girls because they're "touch me and I'll tell my dad" territory.
  • Punny Name: Cecil Gaybody is a camp photographer.
  • Violent Glaswegian: Subverted. Bert isn't loud or mean at all in his appearances.

    Windsor Davies

Amelia Bayntun

Amelia Bayntun appeared in five movies in the series, mostly playing bit characters or making cameos in the background.

    Richard O'Callaghan

Richard O'Callaghan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/download_125.jpg
Portrayed: Bertram Muffet and Lewis Boggs.

Richard O'Callaghan appeared in two movies in the series — both of them being lead roles. He was arguably brought in to fill in the roles that Jim Dale did after he left — the mild-mannered love interest who is loved by all.

  • A Father to His Men: Lewis is loved by all that work for him.
  • The Cutie: His roles in a nutshell.
  • Jerkass: Lewis balances on a thin line on whether the viewer likes him or not. It might be satisfying to see a younger character being the complete opposite of the self-centered Vic, but he also resorts to unnecessary violence when he doesn't get his way and practically kidnapped his crush in order to win her affections back.
  • Nice Guy
  • Pretty Boy
  • Single-Target Sexuality: Lewis resorted to either violence or threatening suicide in order to get Myrtle's affections back.

As of 2022, the actors still alive are Richard O'Callaghan, Valerie Leon, Angela Douglas, Kenneth Cope, Julian Holloway, Amanda Barrie, Jacki Piper and Anita Harris.
