Milo Powell/Captain Flamingo

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/milo_82.png

Voiced by: Tabitha St. Germain

Motivated, driven Milo Powell is equipped with the imagination and faith to become a superhero. He stands proudly in his homemade super-tights, his unwieldy flamingo-beak helmet and terry cloth cape, ready to take on an outsized world! With Milo, things rarely turn out as planned, but somehow they do always manage to turn out alright. He carries a heavy heroic burden because kids everywhere rely on him, so he approaches their problems with utmost seriousness—as if the fate of their world depended on it (and maybe it does!).
  • Action Duo: with Lizbeth.
  • Almost Kiss: He almost (reluctantly) kisses Kirsten in "Bug Out!", but Lizbeth drags him away in time.
  • Aside Glance: Frequently.
  • Aw, Look! They Really Do Love Each Other: He and Lizbeth have these moments on occasion. She may be annoyed at his cluelessness and he may not catch on to her feelings, but it's clear they're close friends and care about each other. Milo's probably too proud to admit his feelings for Lizbeth, though.
    • Also, he and Dishrag, his pet cat. Despite getting on each other's nerves, they do have a nice bond between them.
  • Badly Battered Babysitter: He played this trope straight in regards to his baby brother Thor. Averted with Meghan, the actual babysitter, mainly because she's good at what she does.
  • Bag of Holding: His backpack stores all sorts of novelty items.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: He does not take very kindly to anyone who dares harms his friends and his family.
  • Chekhov's Gun: Several times due to his "Bird Brain" ideas. Sour candy, his kite he flew in the beginning of "High and Flighty", a Christmas Card he wrote to Santa So Lizbeth and her family can get Christmas presents, and several other instances.
  • Chubby Mama, Skinny Papa: A gender-flipped variant occurs with he when he switches places with his cousin Wendell for a day. When he sees how unhappy Lizbeth is with him (partially because he developed a crush on her), Milo throws the bet on purpose so he can be with her again.
  • Cloud Cuckoo Lander
  • Couch Gag: Given that he has so many novelty items.
    • In "Ack! Give My Backpack Back, Jack!", squirrels steal his Power Pack, and Lizbeth gives him hers until he gets it back. The everyday items (Pen and marker, for instance) turn out to be surprisingly helpful.
  • Embarrassing Middle Name: Milo Ignacius Powell, used by his mom as a Full-Name Ultimatum in "Fault Line". In fact, his father has the same middle name as him, and it's used in the same manner.
  • "Eureka!" Moment: His ability to misinterpret Lizbeth's suggestions while thinking with his "Bird Brain" is basically this. Even crazier is that his idea works (Usually).
  • Genius Ditz
  • The Glomp: He does this to Lizbeth in "Bunny Run" when he's big enough to go on a rollercoaster ride. Cue hearts in Lizbeth's eyes.
  • Breaking the Fourth Wall: Happens between him and the narrator (usually).
  • Idiot Ball
  • Jumped at the Call: All the time. That's assuming it's not an April Fool's prank or Kirsten's faking it to be close to him.
  • Large Ham: Milo tends to act over the top a lot.
  • Mr. Imagination: His "Flamingo colored glasses" have this ability.
  • My Little Phony: Much to his dismay, has promised Lizbeth to go see a movie called "Return to Unicorn Island" in "Alley Oops!".
  • Naked People Are Funny: "Talking to Ralph on the Big Porcelain Phone" has him running naked at the end.
  • Nerd Glasses: Originally in the demo.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: Happens frequently until his bird brain provides his "Eureka!" Moment.
  • Potty Emergency: He has one in "Water You Worried About?".
  • Real Men Wear Pink: Double Subverted. He does wear a pink and blue outfit, but he's not exactly tough. He does manage to save the day, nonetheless.
  • The Rival: To Wendell.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Sausage pizza.
  • Will They or Won't They?: Him and Lizbeth.

Lizbeth Zaragoza

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lizbeth.png

Voiced by: Melanie Tonello

Lizbeth is focused and organized but darn it, she's just a puddle of emotions when it comes to Milo Powell, her favorite square shaped boy. She's a devoted follower and chronicler of his heroics, and, unbeknownst to him, is the voice of the "birdbrain" that often inspires the Captain to save the day. Strong, smart Lizbeth is secure in the knowledge that girls mature faster than boys, so she knows one day Milo will catch up and appreciate her. So, for now, she's willing to guide him along and wait patiently for that special day.

Owen-Only

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/owen_only_6.png

Voiced by: Scott Beaudin

Owen-Only is an over-protected only child. He's been padded, helmeted and parentally locked out of most of the thrills of being a kid. And pop-culturally, he's waaaaaaayyyyy behind. This kid has never tasted junk food, or felt the wind in his hair while riding his scooter, or told a joke where the punch line was “poo.” So all you have to forgive him for not getting stuff, or always stating the obvious, to the point of being really annoying sometimes. Given what he's up against, you gotta love the guy.
  • Reset Button: In "I Scream, You Scram!", he gets rollerblades that have a turbo feature which he accidentally triggers. After several failed attempts to slow down and stop him from using his out of control blades, Milo and Lizbeth grabs on to him, going downhill really fast which make them go back in time just before the summer season begins, and once Milo saw Owen's overprotective mom buying the skates for her son, he jumps out of the wormhole and tells her not to buy the blades, which she decided not to.
  • Safety Worst: His mom goes to ridiculous lengths to protect him. He frequently wears a ridiculous amount of safety gear, his house and especially his room has a security system, he goes to the beach with too much sunscreen more often than not and he even had to wear orthopedic underpants (Which the Captain and Lizbeth had to search through dirty laundry at the pool when it got lost). He can't get a break anywhere.

Rutger

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/rutger_6.png

Voiced by: Demetrius Joyette

Rutger always bites off more than he can chew. For instance, rather than ride a dumb little dinghy in the wading pool, he'll construct a massive Titanic-like behemoth out of random floatie toys—only to have it sink dramatically, with him onboard. The only kid who thinks as big as he does is the Captain; good thing, as Rutger frequently requires his services.
  • Human Mail: Rutger was a victim of this when Milo and Lizbeth mail him as a package to get him away from a babysitter who keeps tabs on him. It backfires.
  • Nerd Glasses

Max Roderick

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/max_68.png

Voiced by: Isabel de Carteret

Max is one of the smartest, most sophisticated kids on the block. It's not his fault he's two feet tall and has a ridicuwous speech pwobwem. Luckily, Captain Flamingo gets him out of trouble. A lot.

Avi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/avi_1.png

Voiced by: Matthew Ferguson

Avi has a real knack for disaster. Is it a bad moon that hangs over his head or just the overlong bangs that hang in his eyes? Whatever the cause, Avi is seriously dexterity-challenged. All it takes from him is one “uh-oh” move to start off an inevitable chain of mounting disasters. Captain Flamingo doesn't mind cleaning up Avi’s messes, usually, but sometimes he wishes Avi would plan and call ahead, because, let's face it: if he's going with his mom to the china shop on Monday, Milo really should book the week off.

Tabitha

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/tabitha.png

Voiced by: Rebecca Brenner

Tabitha has two settings: freaked out, and really freaked out. She's on life’s fast track; every moment of every day is scheduled, and she plans to finish university and have an established medical career by the time most of us are just finishing breakfast. But when someone's life moves as fast as hers does, things eventually slip—and the Captain is always there to pick up the pieces.

Sanjay

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/sanjay_9.png

Voiced by: Stacey DePass

Easily distracted, Sanjay is the kid voted “Most likely to walk into a tree while following a bird call,” or “Most likely to trip into a manhole while reading and jogging at the same time.” In fact, he may not even notice that he's in the middle of being saved by the fearless yet focused Captain!

Otto

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/otto_288.png

Voiced by: Catherine Disher

Otto could well be a genius. Or he could be a complete wacko. We'll only know for sure after he's grown up. But for now, he builds robots that go bad, constructs alternate universes that spin out of his control, and collects rocks that include most of the planet's ore supply. But the Captain saves Otto frequently and unquestioningly—and might even consider him his favorite customer!

Kirsten McBradden

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/kirsten_5.png

Voiced by: Vanessa Thompson ("Beyond the Thundermonkey Dome" and "Gum Control"), Stephanie Beard (all other appearances)

Kirsten is a sweet girl who really believes in Captain Flamingo, and is even doing a project on him for school. Whenever she gets near Milo, she peppers him with fan-type questions, always proceeded by, “I was just wondering…”

Ruth Ann

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/ruth_ann_9.png

Voiced by: Annick Obonsawin

Ruth is Lizbeth's doppelganger and rival; her blonde hair is parted on the opposite side to Lizbeth. Where Lizbeth is spunky, Ruth is a shrinking violet. Where Lizbeth is straightforward, Ruth is the queen of the backhanded compliment. Worse yet, Ruth has Milo wrapped around her finger, and she strings him along like she does all the other boys in town. Ruth makes Lizbeth seethe, and more than once Lizbeth has voted not to rescue her nemesis because Lizbeth knows if Ruth runs off with Milo's heart, she'll just break it. So she fights Ruth for her square-shaped boy every time.

David Powell

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/dad_84.png

Voiced by: Richard Waugh

Milo's dad.

Margarie Powell (nee Howell)

Voiced by: Kathryn Greenwood

Milo's mom.

Thor Powell

Voiced by: Nissae Isen

Thor is Milo’s diaper-clad baby brother. Thor likes to crawl after Milo and ride his cape. And he likes to slobber on Milo’s tights. As Thor’s primary babysitter, Milo often has to juggle his little brother and his work—sometimes literally.

Dishrag

Milo's pet cat.

Mr. Zaragoza

Lizbeth's dad.

Mrs. Only

Owen's mom.

Tucker

Tabitha's younger baby brother.

Narrator

Voiced by: Peter Keleghan

An unseen narrator
  • The Voice: Although we hear his voice, we may never know his true form.
  • Voluntary Shapeshifting: He can shapeshift into anything including a reporter, Dishrag and a skull.

    Enemies of the Captain

Warrior Monkey

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/warrior_monkey.png
Voiced by: Juan Chioran
Captain Flamingo's arch-nemesis.
  • Arch-Enemy
  • Backstory: In his first appearance in "Pancake Panic", Rutger buys a monkey as a pet, but it doesn't work out and the Captain needs to save him. After taking him back to the pet store, an organ grinder buys him in his second appearance and was forced to perform for kids. He then quits and becomes Captain Flamingo's arch nemesis. Also doubles as a Continuity Nod.
  • Big Bad
  • For Halloween, I Am Going as Myself: Played straight for the most part in both Halloween episodes. But in "Copycat Flamingo", one of the Halloween episodes, the Warrior Monkey poses as him to sabotage Halloween for the kids. He counters this by dressing up as the Warrior Monkey, being kind and friendly to other kids and ruining his plan. Near the end of the episode, Owen Only dresses up as Lizbeth right down to her belly dancer costume.
  • Sitcom Arch-Nemesis
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Catchy music.

Wendell Howell

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/wendell_5.png
Voiced by: Cole Caplan
Wendell is Milo’s cousin and nemesis. He and Milo are always competing against each other. Wendell loves to point out how much better he is than Milo at everything, due mostly to the fact that he is, as he never lets Milo forget, an eighth of an inch taller than Milo. A bit of a geek, Wendell always looks for a mathematical and/or scientific way to gain the upper hand over Milo. He later invents his own superheroic alter ego, Commander Whooping Crane!

Nick Names

A bully who insults others.

Tropes associated with him:

  • Meaningful Name: He gives kids mean names that stick with them for life. Lizbeth, with help from her older sister finds out he was ridiculed with a hurtful name himself after winning a flute concert and was nicknamed "Toot Toot" because he tooted out of both ends (And It's not the flute for the other end).

    Other

Meghan

One of the teenagers of the block.

Tropes associated with Meghan:

  • Deus ex Machina: At the end of "The Even Greater Escape", she (who is supposed to babysit Rutger) just happened to be a pro hockey player so she could take his place. Her hockey playing skills were never brought up before.
  • Driving Test: Spends much of her screentime in "Pasta Your Bedtime" studying for one. Milo exploits this by tricking her into thinking rescuing Owen at a golf course is the test.

Tervit

One of the teenagers of the block.

Tropes associated with Tervit:

  • Amusing Injuries: He is a victim of this when Milo accidentally blinded him with a ribbon in "Knot In My Backyard".
  • Arch-Enemy: In the demo, before his role was taken by the Warrior Monkey.
