WMG / Friday Night Funkin': Mario's Madness

Go To

Apparition and the deleted Forbidden Star songs takes place in a pocket dimension created by the Wario Apparition
That's why the hallway that the Apparition chases BF through seems to be endless. That's also why in Forbidden Star, Wario yells "WELCOME TO WARIO WORLD".

Mario .exe gave Boyfriend the Magic Flute after GB's defeat.
He respected Boyfriend's persistence and decided he'd let Boyfriend live for now. But he couldn't promise that the other creepypasta horrors like him would do the same. He told Boyfriend that he'd have to beat all of them if he wishes to return home.

Mario .exe has the power to travel between different Mario games.
As evidenced by the transition between "Its A Me" and "Golden Land", he's shown to be able to transport Boyfriend from Super Mario Bros. to Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins, and transform into GB during that process. Tying into the previous theory that he gave Boyfriend the Magic Flute, he presumably got it from Super Mario Bros. 3 and gave Boyfriend his power of game travel. With it, he's able to travel to Super Mario World, Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario 64, a different Super Mario Bros. cartridge, and Mario Kart. The catch is that they are all corrupted by various horrors like .exe himself, and he can't guarantee that Boyfriend will survive them all.
  • Confirmed. Marco confirmed that in his GB form, he can travel between Mario games, which is apparently gonna play out in a future update.

Potential Future Opponents

  • The shadowy Mario or bloody Luigi monsters from Super Mario Dolor, though the fact that the game got Screwed by the Lawyers could throw a wrench in that. Their song will likely reference songs from Dolor, mainly "It's A Me" (not to be confused with the song of the same name from this mod).
    • Jossed.
  • DJ Hallyboo, though not a variation of Mario, Luigi, or Wario, still comes from a rather famous creepy Mario fan work, and "Apparition"'s Game Over screen has an Anti-Piracy screen. His song could reference his theme "Host Hoedown", and perhaps be named No Party.
    • Confirmed, both the character and the song name.
  • SMG4!Mario, though not creepy, could fill a similar role to Racist Mario. His song will, as SMG4 loves referencing memes, have plenty of references while still being rather tough.
    • Jossed, though he was apparently a scrapped character, so it’s also kind of confirmed.
  • Power Star Mario, with him being possessed by the boos. Bonus points if it ties into Beta Luigi with it being explained that the boos taking Mario away allowed them to possess him. Song could be called Power.
    • Confirmed.
  • Mario from (Mario) The Music Box, or more specifically, Malice, with Boyfriend rapping to free Mario from Alice's influence.
    • Malice's/Alice Aduraice's appearance would serve as a good parallel to Needlemouse Sonic/Sarah Henderson. Both died in a time period before the present events of both series (Alice was murdered at least 100 years before the events of (Mario) The Music Box, while Sarah was killed in 1969), and both of them wanted revenge against those who wronged them in the past (Alice with Marchionne, Sarah with Luther, Martin, and Michael).
    • Alternatively, the opponent could be Marchionne from the ARC expansion. An idea for his week would be him about to execute Girlfriend (or at least her past incarnation) for witchcraft, but Boyfriend (or his past incarnation) crashes the execution and battles against Marchionne to save her life.
    • There’s also the potential for the other antagonists from (Mario) The Music Box and ARC to be opponents or gimmicks and background elements for an Alice or Marchionne song, like Riba or Evie for the former, and Luciano or Aurora/Misery for the latter.
    • Also, Jess/CorpseSyndrome has expressed interest in a possible mod made out of Mario the Music Box, so that’s not out of the question yet.
    • Jossed.
  • Ink Bowser from InkBowser.exe, it may even have a special game over where BF gets corrupted by the ink.
    • Was actually a scrapped character for V1, but Jossed.
  • Ghost Peach from the Coronation Day
    • Confirmed.
  • HellValleySkyTree, one of the more infamous Easter eggs in video game history. Maybe including a reference to the similar face in Super Mario 3D Land.
    • Jossed.
  • MARIO and/or Victim #1 are from arguably the most well known Mario creepypasta, it feels weird without at least a reference to it.
    • Confirmed for a while, though now Jossed. It’s been confirmed VICTIM #1 has been scrapped.
  • The infamous Mad Piano would fit in well, and can even have a piano-based soundfont. Song could be called Symphony.
    • Jossed.
  • Terminal 7 Luigi, despite his game being based on a Vinesauce meme, could fit in well as a third luigi variant, potentially mid-breakdown with a stage based on Terminal 7's last level. Song would have to be named Brain Cancer or Terminal 7.
    • Jossed.
  • Maybe a character from Five Nights At Wario's, potentially a VIRUS or EMMA.
    • Jossed.
  • Speedrunner Mario could be that one joke character made to serve as a Breather Episode like with Sunky.MPEG and Sanic.exe from Vs Sonic.exe.
  • The Textureless Mario Anomaly, maybe being some sort of avatar for the Personalization AI itself, like in SM64: Classified. Song could be called Blank, as in The Blank.
    • Jossed for the Textureless Mario Anomaly, comfirmed for the Personalization AI/Stanley, as it seems to use Promo Mario as his Avatar instead.
  • While he’s already confirmed to be in FNF: Classified, who’s to say M from SM64.z64 couldn’t appear in some form?
    • Jossed.
  • Gilbert. He’s the funny, scary meme Mario, why not?
    • Jossed.
  • G R A N D D A D. Yes, this troper knows that he's technically not a horror character, but given how he's usually portrayed by the Vinesauce community as a Memetic Psychopath and how Racist Mario (not a horror character) got in, it wouldn't be out of place. Besides, everybody needs some of the grandest of all dads in their lives.
    • Confirmed.
  • Weegee could be a decent opponent as well, since even though he isn't horror related, he is still portrayed as an Eldritch Abomination of sorts and can turn people into copies of himself. Song could be called Death Stare.
    • Jossed.
  • Mario the kiler (sic). C'mon guys, he was in the game files! He has to be in!
    • Jossed.
  • The grotesque Mario from that animated "Mario takes your liver" video. Would definitely be called either Give Me Your Liver, or just Liver.
    • Jossed,
  • Lego Mario. He could have his eyes just black like he is when powered down. Could be called Bricks.
    • Jossed.
  • Mr. X.
    • Jossed.
  • Given that MX is already in, how about his Cat Mario counterpart from Mario ‘85’s April Fool’s demo, Nekoamon?
    • In addition, Boyfriend and Girlfriend should transform into cats during this song to fit with the theme.
    • Jossed.
  • Mr. L from Too Late.exe. For the second part of the song he could rip the background in half similar to the original game.
    • Confirmed.
  • An obvious one that hasn’t been mentioned yet is the Peach from the sister image to Super Horror Mario.
    • Confirmed. She appears in Starman Slaughter.
  • Mario from Undertoad would be an out there choice, but plausible nonetheless. The song could probably be a cover of one of Sans’ songs from Indie Cross, possibly Burning in Hell, Bad Time, or Final Stretch, but with the Undertale motifs replaced with motifs from the Mario games or Undertoad fan songs, such as Megalovania being swapped out for Revolution.
    • Jossed.
  • Mayro.exe to go along with Sanic.exe from Vs Sonic.exe
  • Princess Peach from Blood Whistle.
    • Jossed.
  • Mr. Virtual. His song may have BF and GF in red and black as a reference to the Virtual Boy.
  • Chris Pratt, cause it’s horrifying that he’s somehow voicing Mario.
  • Any of the Mario characters from Lumpy Touch’s Animations, with special mention to Daisy from Lumpy Super Mario Land, Dry Luigi, and Elder God Luigi.
    • Jossed. Though also pseudo-confirmed, since Lumpy Touch Mario was a scrapped opponent.
  • Sophie from the Left Behind Creepypasta game. This would make her a good alternate to Sarah/Needlemouse from Vs Sonic.exe. Maybe her song could be called Abandoned.
    • Maybe Thomas can also show up as a parallel to Luther.
    • Jossed.
  • King Luigi and/or the Seven Koopalings from Brutal Mario, the both of which’s tracks can be remixes of their respective boss themes, possibly with the later being extended so all seven can get their chance to sing.
    • Jossed.
  • Boon from the VIP games.
    • Jossed.
  • The Baker, who could serve as a good parallel to Starved Eggman from Vs Sonic.exe. Song could be called Delicious Cake.
    • Jossed. Though we did get a Starved parallel with Turmoil.
  • Demo, cause we all need a little more Demo in our life.
    • And while we’re on the topic of raocow, Black Plague could also show up as a Grand Dad esc joke character.
    • Jossed.
  • Given the inclusions of Day Out, the next perfect silly addition could be Mario's Castle Calamity. Where you play as Mario rapping against the castle he's trying to destroy.
    • Jossed.
  • SMG0. Maybe he could shift between all the forms he takes in the Cosmology, ending off on Niles. Song could be called Witness, Genesis, Cosmology, Revelations or Perfection.
    • Jossed.
  • Dark Luigi, cause we gotta go down with the sickness.
    • Jossed.
  • Somari would be a good meme option, having a song that mashes up Mario and Sonic music together.
    • Confirmed. The song thing is also confirmed, as Mario Sing and Game Rhythm 9 both uses the sound font of Genesis games and has a leitmotif to the original 1-1 music.
  • Marco Antonio has an OC based on Needlem0use called JumpM4n. It doesn't seem all too unlikely they'd show up in Mario's Madness in some way. Possibly either rap battling boyfriend or even rap battling Sarah.
    • Jossed. Marco has stated that JumpM4N was just a concept and won’t be in the mod.
  • Mario from this animation. His gimmick would involve him trying to capture Boyfriend in attempt to gain power, thus making Boyfriend press space to dodge Cappy. He'd hit him once to take off his hat and then a second time to capture him, resulting in a Non-Standard Game Over. His song could be called Hatastrophe.
    • Jossed.
  • Mar from Failboat’s Mii making streams and second Miitopia Playthrough could work as a great joke character. The rest of the party could maybe appear in the background during the song as supporting characters, and the song name itself could be called “Suffermiing”.
    • Jossed.
  • PS135. He’s an incredibly popular Exe who has a mostly unproblematic creator, and he’s based on Mario. Perhaps his song could be a Lost Levels Mix of one of the ones from his week in Mario Mix itself (likely either Illusion or Mario is Missing).
    • Jossed.
  • Mario from the Mario is Mental theory. His song could be called Disorder or Psychopath.
    • Jossed.

There's gonna be a collaboration with Vs Sonic.exe
Most likely possibility is a Lord X and MX song since they're canonically friends.
  • Confirmed! Though oddly enough, it's not in either of their mods, but rather in the V2 update for Friday Night Funkin' Lullaby where they sing the song "Pasta Night" alongside the star of that mod, Hypno. The designs and voices for Lord X and MX are taken from each of their mods, and they appear to be playing a game of Uno together.

There will be some sort of Triple Trouble expy for the main week’s final song in v2.0
The opponents Mario.exe/GB/Whatever his final form will be called will probably send out will be Luigi, Peach, and Bowser.
  • Maybe it could be called Mario Party or something.
    • Not necessarily jossed, but unlikely as FriedFrick already has a Triple Trouble cover called Mario Party for his mod Vs Sonic.exe Mario Mix.
  • Though they wouldn't be as sympathetic as the soul characters from Triple Trouble. Peach would be the Token Evil Teammate of the three, being based on the sister image to Super Horror Mario and therefore just as willing to kill as Mario.exe. Bowser would be the obvious Asshole Victim, but still unwillingly forced into this, making Luigi the only sympathetic opponent of the three.
    • What if instead of Super Horror Peach being along with Mario, there's a zombie Toad instead, like in CoolRash's Mario.exe game.
  • Confirmed. All-Stars has been directly described as effectively being Triple Trouble, though the song is for Ultra M rather than Mario.exe and the roster of characters joining him consist of the Tanooki Exe, Luigi, Wario, Yoshi and Possessed Girlfriend. The secret Superboss song Unbeatable also has distinct similarities, being a ten minute long gauntlet against three characters with a heap of gimmicks to challenge you.

The reason GF dressed up as Mario in I Hate You is to make fun of Luigi.

She literally only put on that outfit to mock him for failing to kill Mario and getting killed himself.

Alternative to the suggested Vs. Sonic.exe crossover, there could be one with Super Mario Bros. Funk Mix

Word of God states that GB and the Game Boy Cameraman are best friends, so there could be a song between them.

  • In addition, maybe they could add an extra mode/difficulty that turns the health system into the one of that mod, where Boyfriend starts as Fire Boyfriend and will lose his powerup whenever he misses until he can get it back, essentially only being able to miss twice at a time. Could make for a good extra challenge.
  • Seemingly confirmed with Mario Sing and Game Rhythm 9, which is a song against Somali with a similar art style to Funk Mix.

In the original series, it's shown that Stanley eventually grows to become angered by anyone who pokes around with him for curiosity's sake, rather than hearing him out and/or joining his cause. Throw someone who is canonically as dumb as a brick at his proverbial front doorstep, and you get a The Thing That Would Not Leave situation.

Stanley actually thinks that Boyfriend is the perfect person to delete him.
Stanley's whole goal is to get deleted before someone can use him as a weapon so no organization can utilize the horrible psychological effects. Boyfriend is, naturally, unbelievably stupid and is likely immune to Stanley's psychological effects. Thus, making Boyfriend the perfect candidate to delete Stanley.

Girlfriend's Mario outfit in I Hate You is a Halloween costume.
It's probably the most plausible explanation for why she has it, and it's a Sexy Whatever Outfit.

M isn't an evil version of Mario, but an even worse version of Waluigi.
  • Waluigi's only friend Wario has a successful video game company, so it's only natural this version would want to go down that same path.
  • By the end of the game, M is revealed to be a tall, skinny freak with a flair for the dramatic.
  • Waluigi's predilection for cheating is well in-line with the various Interface Screws found in many FNF mods, this one included.
  • Most of the Luigis we see in the mod are treated terribly in one way or another. In particular, IHY Luigi - as in, the version of Luigi who's even more of an attention-seeking Jerkass than Waluigi - stands out in having two songs dedicated to him.
  • Given this mod is mostly about fan creations, it's worth noting that there's a Fan Game for Waluigi called Psycho Waluigi where he takes over various kingdoms using psychic powers. It's pretty obvious how this could be related to Ultra M's whole M.O.
  • Not only that, if we're talking official material, the only time Waluigi's had a starring role outside of a sports, kart, or party game was in Dance Dance Revolution Mario Mix, another Rhythm Game.

This version of IHY Luigi is like Turmoil, but he somehow got infused with code from a completely different game.

Obviously, his resentment for Mario came from Ingo, who was designed as an Evil Counterpart to Luigi in the first place, so the fusion was practically seamless...on the outside. The real reason for Luigi acting like that is because he was also fused with a Redead, which made him jump to murder as a solution for his problems and brought him back wrong after he got dunked in lava. As for all the other M-rated stuff from I HATE YOU, that's what happens when you mix up a normal child-friendly spooky castle with the Bottom of the Well and the Shadow Temple.

Ultra M works on similar rules (or the same rules) as the Fusion Gems from Steven Universe.

Word of God did say that Ultra M is essentially a Fusion Dance of Horror Mario with a majority (if not all) of the mod's opponents and compared the way he morphs at the start of "All-Stars" to the show's Gems - putting two and two together, we can try and align the rules of Fusion Dance from the show into Ultra M (obviously, minus the Gem biology):

  • The fusion's appearance, along with combining traits from their components, being influenced by multiple factors that include but are not limited to; the relationship between the components, how in sync they are, if they share a common goal, and why the fusion was made. (to each of these points, Super Horror Mario sees the others as his puppets, he likely initiated the fusion for the power boost and/or to be able to finish the job - anyhow, without consideration for the rest -, and it's possible that not ALL the others are in on the fusion's cause: killing BF and GF for SMH's Revenge by Proxy scheme and for backing out of the deal - the result is a gigantic, Multi-Armed and Dangerous, monstrous-looking, and possibly unstable/volatile fusion)
  • The fusion's personality being based on - and exaggerating - pre-existing traits of their components. (A dramatic flair for most of the poses and through how he talks, a jerk attitude with the constant Flipping the Bird for the left poses and the taunting, and even a tragically lonely side, hinted through A Mad World Without You, can be traced back to some of the voices used at Act 4)
  • The fusion sharing powers from their components. (The specifics are not shown, but it's likely given Ultra M's godlike power - it could be argued that he draws the ability of "being unbeatable" from {{Mr. Sys}})
  • Higher chances of the fusion becoming hard to maintain due to the huge amount of beings involved and/or internal conflict - plus, in two known cases, the voice of the component in control layering over the fusion's voice. (The voice cameos in Act 4; most of the beings making Ultra M could be arguing on when they should finish off Boyfriend, and/or fighting for control to do it... and given he's the last one to appear right before Boyfriend is Impaled with Extreme Prejudice, it seems Turmoil won)
    • Though Beta Luigi, whose voice does cameo in Act 4, could instead be trying to get control over the fusion to spare Boyfriend, given the lack of animosity between each other (think what Lapis Lazuli did with Malachite for Steven's safety).
  • It is said that the beings making part of Ultra M don't die, but are simply sent back to their worlds once the fusion is done - that'd be this setting's equivalent to de-fusing.

M is going to start up a new game with Pico and give him a wider berth.

If he's so desperate to talk to anyone, then Pico is definitely going to end up in his sights, and depending on how much he wants company, he might just do anything to drag things out. Pico might even get his friends' souls back if he's really lucky. Then again, there's always the possibility of M sticking to his original deal out of pride, or Pico pressing a Berserk Button of his...

Jaiden Mario was going to be an extremely difficult song.

Given that her whole video was about Kaizo Mario levels, it makes sense it would start off small and then get very hard later on. Possibly with note spam, unfairly fast arrows, and some kind of Kaizo Trap gimmick.

Boyfriend isn't actually dead.

Major spoilers for the mod's ending ahead. Anyone's who played a Mario game knows that when your life counter ticks to zero, it doesn't mean game over; it just means you're out of extra lives, and this one is your last unless you get a 1-Up. Boyfriend(and by extension Girlfriend) both had one life going into this whole ordeal, which would explain how Girlfriend revived after MX ripped her in half but didn't revive after Ultra M killed her. Unfortunately, this also means Boyfriend is now wandering a hostile world without his girlfriend to give him company, and likely doesn't even know Pico's in a similar boat. This would also explain the change in his overworld sprites after beating All-Stars; he's not dead, he's just utterly despondent and crushed. And since he accidentally reneged on the deal, Ultra M isn't letting him go home.

Wega was meant to be the Climax Boss of Irregularity Isle.

First of all, Wega had to have been in Irregularity Isle at some point, as the other worlds wouldn't make any sense. Irregularity Isle is the land of memetic imitators after all. As for him being the end boss, there are several factors that seemingly point to this:

  • Wega's song "Iason Mason" is considerably more note-dense and intense than "MARIO SING AND GAME RYTHM 9", the current final song in the world.
  • Given both the original ad as well as the meme surrounding it, Wega would (presumably) be the only hostile opponent of the world, as the rest of the world consists of either heroes or a completely neutral actor. He also would've been the only opponent to represent Luigi in the world.
  • If the background isn't a placeholder (or at the very least indicates the location of the song if it were finished), then "Iason Mason" would take place inside a mansion, which would transition neatly into the next song "Alone".
