Trivia / Friday Night Funkin': Mario's Madness

Go To

  • Approval of God:
    • Several members of the Dev team have voiced their approval of fake leak songs composed by C0mixZ0ne, even remarking that their work is better than the official songs for the mod.
    • Shadow-Shana, the original creator of Mario.exe/Super Horror Mario, has shown appreciation for the mod due to it primarily featuring the aforementioned character and crediting her for the original work.
    • Max Gilardi/Hotdiggitydemon, creator of "Luigi's Day Out"note  retweeted the teaser of "Day Out" originally posted by Marco to show his approval of the song.
    • Mr. Pixel, creator of Mr. L, voiced his approval of the character's inclusion while sharing the teaser for Mr. L's song "Overdue".
    • Joey Perleoni, the creator of the Mario Party DS Anti Piracy videos, was contacted for permission to use DJ Hallyboo in the mod. Not only was permission enthusiastically granted, but Joey would also compose the track for the song's death screen, "Party's Over." He even originally composed "No Party" before allowing KennyL to remake the song!
    • Greenio/Annielogue, creator of the Super Mario 64: CLASSIFIED series, has voiced praise on the portrayal of the series in the mod, alongside its inclusion in general.
    • Via a comment, RedTV53 voiced their approval on a SEGA Genesis remix of Unbeatable, calling it awesome. The remixer replied back and cited Red and all the other composers of the song as having done fantastic on the original theme.
  • Colbert Bump:
    • Turmoil initially started out with a niche fandom when he was introduced on Twitter over a year and a half prior to V2's release. His popularity has increased since the release of his song "Last Course".
    • While the advertisment was infamous in certain circles of the internet, there were many people that had never heard of the "YOU CANNOT BEAT US" NES commercial until "Unbeatable" hit public eye.
  • Content Leak:
    • Luigi's Day Out Mario along with the designs for "Day Out" Boyfriend and Girlfriend, a snippet of "Day Out", some upcoming content for MX, and the design of Omega (as well as a test for some now scrapped sprites for him), were leaked at the same time as the March 2022 leak of Vs Sonic.exe that contained the Wechidna version of "My Horizon".
    • In July of 2022, multiple songs were leaked, including new versions of “I Hate You” and “Golden Lands”, the old version of “Dictator”, a scrapped song for L is Real Luigi, and a short bit of MR Luigi’s song were leaked out.
    • In December of 2022, a song named "Overdue", which has Mr. L from Too Late.Exe facing off against Pico, was leaked. This resulted in Mr. L being officially announced as part of the V2 roster, with past statements that he wasn't gonna be added having been said merely to keep his appearance a surprise. The song itself is getting revamped, with the leaked version considered scrapped. The song can be listened to in full here.
    • Similarly, in December 2022, gameplay of "Dictator", “Dark Forest” and a portion of a new song called "All-Stars" (specifically the end of Ultra M’s segment and the beginning of the Omega’s segment) were leaked online. Later, gameplay of the remasters for "It’s-A-Me" and "I HATE YOU", as well as the full versions of “Dark Forest”, an old version of "All-Stars" and a scrapped song based on Waluigi’s Taco Stand got leaked.
    • In December 2023, Nova64 leaked an outdated build of the mod out of petty spite, showing a lot of then unseen content.
  • Creator Backlash: Sandi, one of the composers, has expressed dissatisfaction with both versions of "Promotion", including the one he worked on.
  • Creator's Favorite: Out if all the V1 songs, Marco Antonio’s, the director of this mod, favorite is “Race Traitors".
  • Development Gag:
    • In V2, outside of M himself, only two works have more than one song dedicated to them: I HATE YOU and Mario '85. The mod was originally conceived as being only an I HATE YOU mod, while the suggested inclusion of MX is what caused it to evolve into its current ensemble cast form.
    • While the overworld went through a significant revision between versions, the overworld hub in V2 is essentially the same map as the Warp Zone map from V1, with the same land shape and color scheme upgraded to Super Mario World graphics.
  • Dummied Out: Alongside the Mario Party DS title screen and minigame instructions before starting "No Party" from the Overworld, there were also plans to fully recreate the BIOS of the Nintendo DS, which was dropped due to the coder being too busy and the code getting outdated. What was successfully recreated can be viewed by pressing CTRL + F4 on the main menu.
  • Foiler Footage: There are 2 instances of this:
    • Along with Jeremy Chinshue/TerminalMontage's Mario and Dorkly Mario, PETA Mario was among the top suggestions from fans. The devs eventually did post a concept and song for him under the guise of PETA Mario being "scrapped", but in reality, he was fake.
    • On January 19, 2024, a user known as "Pemod" (rumored to be Hazy impersonating Nova64) posted a supposedly scrapped song for Ron J known as "Murderer". However, it was later confirmed to be fake, with Hazy themself having composed the song as a joke.
  • God Never Said That: Several concepts made by Marco Antonio himself were thought as scrapped MM content once V2 released. However, this was later confirmed to be false.
  • He Also Did:
    • The creator of this mod is also working on a Five Nights at Freddy’s fan game known as Welcome to Freddy’s, a FNAF+ inspired remake of FNAF 1. They have also gone and created their own take on Mario '85 (based on when it was still "Mario PC Port") alongside Sandi, one of this mod's composers.
    • The new composer for V2, FriedFrick, is also the creator of the upcoming mod Sonic.exe (Mario Mix).
  • Lying Creator:
    • During the development of V2, Marco Antonio stated that Mr. L from Too Late.exe would not be in the mod. Turns out however he actually was, with that only being said to keep his appearance a surprise and only being officially revealed thanks to V1 of his song being leaked.
    • According to Marco Antonio, Omega, the Tanooki Mario-based EXE had been scrapped from the mod due to leaking. But lo and behold, a leak for the song "All-Stars" reveals he’s actually still in the mod, albeit with updated sprites.
  • Non-Singing Voice: Racist Mario's voiceline in the intro to Version 1 of "Race Traitors" is recycled from the original animation by FlashGitz, whereas his "chromatic" is sampled from Charles Martinet's Mario voice.
  • The Other Darrin:
    • Super Horror Mario was voiced in V1 by Nanno. In V2, Super Horror Mario is instead voiced by RedTV53, one of the mod's musicians.
    • Also in V1, MX was voiced by KINGF0X, a former musician for the mod. V2 has Sunset voicing MX instead.
  • Parody Assistance: Joey Perleoni himself originally composed "No Party", and his version can still be found as a hidden song, only accessible via a workaround. He also made the Game Over theme for the song, which did make it into the main game.
  • Refitted for Sequel:
    • According to Joey Perleoni himself, the music used for the Game Over of "No Party" was meant to be used in Mario Party DS Anti Piracy as a theme for DJ Hallyboo, but was ultimately scrapped in favor of "Host Hoedown". It saw use again in this mod.
    • Omega was planned for this mod before, but was initially scrapped along with a song he was meant to have. He did return upon the mod's release, albeit as one of the opponents in "All-Stars".
  • Role Reprise: Juno Songs reprises his role as DJ Hallyboo in "No Party". Joey, the creator of the character, even got to make the original version of "No Party", alongside the Game Over theme for the song, as mentioned above.
  • Schedule Slip: The V2 update was planned to release in October 2022, but was delayed due to unspecified events. While Marco hoped to release it sometime in Q4 2022, the release was pushed into 2023. As of FunkKast 2023, the update was finally confirmed to be released on Halloween 2023 (or during November 2023 at the latest). It was after this that plans for a specific release date were dropped, with a statement that the mod would release once everything is completed. It would eventually release by late December 2023.
  • Trolling Creator: Hazy Is Dead jokingly posted a "scrapped" song for Ron J called "Murderer", which was later revealed to have been a troll from Hazy.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • As Marco revealed in a QNA on Twitter, the mod was originally gonna be based solely on I HATE YOU, but then Dewott suggested adding MX, and from there the list of characters got bigger and bigger.
    • A second song attributed to the Wario Apparition named "Forbidden Star" exists in the mod and is even playable via the Debug menu, but is not part of the main mod so far. The official reason given was that it didn't have the same vibe as the rest of the mod's songs and was therefore scrapped in favor of "Apparition", but it was left in the Debug menu as a bonus.
    • There were plans to add InkBowser.exe to the mod, however they would end up being scrapped due to time constraints. SMG4 Mario, Wega, Dorkly Mario, Jaiden Mario and Lumpy Touch Mario also were considered for V2 only to be scrapped as well for their own respective reasons (time constraints and trouble with his sprites for SMG4 Mario, the team and the creator hating the meme for Wega, unknown reasons for Dorkly and Jaiden Mario, and the roster being full for Lumpy Touch Mario).
    • Aside from that, there were plans to add a Tanoki Mario-based EXE called "Omega" created by Marco Antonio, however it would also end up being scrapped due to leaking. However, another leak for "All-Stars" would end up revealing that he has been brought back, albeit with updated sprites.
    • L is Real Luigi was originally gonna get a song called "Drowned", but Hazy, the song's composer, wasn't happy with the original iteration of the song, leading to it getting remade before the song was scrapped altogether, with Hazy making a new song altogether (called “Thalassophobia”) instead.
    • Mr. L would have originally had a song known as "Spectrum", which ended up getting scrapped and replaced by "Overdue" after KINGF0X left the team. According to KINGF0X himself, he never released the concept to the public, but he has announced that he has plans to complete the song, along with Forbidden Star and all his versions of It's-A Me, Alone and possibly even Powerdown.
    • GB was originally going to get another song and be the Final Boss of the mod, but as announced in this tweet, plans have changed. Now the Final Boss is merely Super Horror Mario, but under a new form & guise of Ultra M.
    • Initially, IAmDaDogeOfDaFuture was to compose Overdue. However, due to false allegations going around the time, he was removed from the team and he refused to rejoin after the controversy cleared up, with FriedFrick composing it instead.
    • Plans for a song based on "Waluigi's Taco Stand" were initially considered, but it was scrapped due to being suggested by two controversial ex-team members (Nova64 and BetaSheep).
    • Originally, Adam McHummus would’ve composed Abandoned, but the song was given to TheWahBox after Adam left the team largely due to controversy surrounding him. Additionally, TheWahBox’s version of Abandoned was altered with help from FriedFrick, due to TheWahBox not being proud of the version he composed solo.
    • Following Nova64 being kicked out of the team, all the songs he composed were remade by others, including It’s-A-Me, Starman Slaughter, Alone, Last Course, Bad Day, the False Hero segment of Powerdown, and Unbeatable. While Starman Slaughter, Last Course and the False Hero segment of Powerdown weren’t changed too much, the others were altered to the point where it’s impossible to tell Nova was the original composer (notably with Alone, which sounds almost nothing like any previous versions, and Unbeatable, which had a full 6 minutes added to its measly length of 4 minutes and all the segments changed completely).
  • Word of God:
    • GB is close friends with Game Boy Cameraman and Turmoil.
    • The ending images in the credits make it seem like the events of the mod were a play, much like how many people believe Super Mario Bros. 3 to be, however Marco has stated that they're not canon to the story. However, he also said that he isn't against the theory that it was all a play, saying that everyone is free to choose whatever they like best.
