Deltatraveler is a fangame of Deltarune that is currently under development by RynoGG.

Sometime after the events of Chapter 2, Kris, Susie and Noelle have somehow ended up in the world of Undertale. In order to find their way home, they must travel through many otherworldly gray doors that lead to several different worlds.

The gameplay is a fusion of Undertale and Deltarune's (though it's suggested that a few sections will use different gameplay); Battles are in a first person perspective, and Susie and Noelle can use spells by spending TP. Guest-Star Party Members may also join, allowing you to use their skills as well. You can, of course, spare or kill any enemies you come across.

The game, similarly to Deltarune's chapters, comes in various sections that are released overtime as development goes on. Currently, there are eight sections planned. All available sections so far can be downloaded here.

Sections

Deltatraveler contains examples of:

  • 11th-Hour Superpower: Susie can use Red Buster and Noelle can use Dual Heal with Kris' help during the final boss fight of each section, much like the final bosses of each chapter in Deltarune.
    • During the final fight of the Obliteration Route in Section 2, Susie will refuse to use Red Buster more than once, so instead Kris is given the X-Slash ability they use in the Weird Route version of the Spamton NEO fight.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: Susie being her usual rude, dismissive, and sarcastic self causes Flowey to accidentally confirm that he wants to steal Kris and Susie's SOULs.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • Flowey takes a much more active role in fighting you than in Undertale, with him being the boss of the ruins rather than Toriel, and what a boss he is.
    • In Section 3, the Gauntlet of Deadly Terror would also count, as Fell!Sans actually sets it off, making it attack and possibly KILL you.
  • Adaptation Deviation:
    • Due to the main characters coming from another world, some of the events that happen in the game are changed from Undertale. For instance, instead of fighting Toriel at the end of the Ruins, she lets you through, but then you're attacked by Flowey, who's amused at the revelation that there's another world and decides to fight Kris and Susie for their SOULs. He also requires his HP to be depleted before being spared, similar to his Photoshop Flowey fight.
    • The abilities, skills, and sometimes even the characterization of characters in section 2 vary a lot from EarthBound. Paula is more of a Red Mage then a Black Magician Girl as she was in her home game and is generally a lot snarkier, for one example.
    • In Underfell (RynoGG), the last Feraldrake is calmed down when Frisk uses the Clash ACT on it and Flowey tells it that Snowy is near the beginning of the forest. Here, if you spared Snowy, he will arrive during the third attack to calm down the last Feraldrake himself, and the fight automatically ends.
  • Adaptational Name Change: "Insane Cultists" here are called "Blue Cultists".
    • "Territorial Oaks" are renamed to "Explosive Oaks".
    • Porky's Dub Name Change is reverted.
    • During Hard Mode, Chara is referred to as Frisk.
  • Adaptational Nice Guy:
    • Unlike most depictions of Underfell monsters where they are flat-out unsparable no matter what the player tries, the Underfell monsters in chapter 3 all can be reasoned with and spared; though the process is more involved than their canon counterparts, and a few will still require Noelle's sleep spell to calm them down due to being too frenzied to be reasoned with.
    • Most of the enemies from non-Undertale or Deltarune projects or AUs are this, as the games they originated from didn't have any (official) way to spare/pacify on them. The enemies from EarthBound can all be pacified through acts, at which point they will stop appearing on the overworld to attack the party.
  • Adapted Out:
    • Ralsei is not available as a party member here.
    • There's no secret cutscene for attempting to bore the dummy. Reverted as of the 2.04 update.
    • Because the gameplay's a fusion between Undertale and Deltarune, the flee command has been replaced with the defend command.
    • The Sans chase in Section 3's "Forest of the Wild Beasts" area omits the mid-chase Feraldrake ambush due to the Flee command being absent.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Kris registers Undertale's Toriel as "Otherworldly Mom" in their phone.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: There is a spell called "Light Clear" which is first used in Section 2 which Kris and Noelle perform to make the world around them more familiar (represented by changing the art style and mechanics to Undertale's/Deltarune's). According to Word of God, Light Clear won't be used for some sections; while this elicits no change from Undertale(-inspired) zones, some of the crossovers will have to be played with their original mechanics instead. This comes into play in Section 4.
  • A Lighter Shade of Black: This is effectively what the trio become in the fight against Underfell Sans on an Obliteration route: Both sides are mass murderers, but the trio hate it and can't do anything to really stop it since the SOUL is making them do it, whereas Underfell Sans is gleeful about his terror.
  • Alternate Continuity: The game takes place after Chapter 2 of Deltarune, except before Kris gets the chance to make a Dark Fountain, Kris, Susie, and Noelle are transported to the world of Undertale while Toriel remains untouched at home.
  • Alternate Universe: The gang will travel through at least two Undertale AUs. In Section 3, Sans explains the difference between alternate timelines and alternate universes.
  • An Ice Person: Snowdrake, Chilldrake, and Ice Cap are ICE type enemies, meaning that IceShock is ineffective against them. However, using IceShock twice against the former two while they're hostile will cause them to be instantly sparable, being a faster sparing method than laughing at Snowdrake's joke or agreeing with Chilldrake.
  • Animation Bump: Starting in section 3, some of Kris's actions are much more fluidly animated than others. Especially them tossing the Soul on Obliteration Route if you try to Cruel Mercy Dogamy.
  • Antepiece: Kris' concussion in Section 2 will result in Kris randomly being unable to fight, but they are able to do anything else regardless if they can fight that turn or not. After killing Ness, Susie and Noelle will be overcome with a guilt condition which functions identically to Kris' concussion, the only difference being that you are able to tell if they won't fight that turn by looking at their facial expressions. The same applies to if Susie is Devious after killing Lesser Dog in section 3.
  • Anti-Frustration Features:
    • Patch 1.03 added a few features to make the conditions of the Obliteration route clearer, since there were many reports of accidentally ending it very early.
    • If you die enough times, you can mash buttons to escape the Game Over screen.
    • In Hard Mode, Susie's "Ultimate Heal" is slightly stronger, healing 4 HP at LV 1. This is especially useful in the Toriel fight where Frisk starts the fight at 5 HP, there are no items yet, and Frisk needs to defend Susie in order to end the fight peacefully.
    • In Hard Mode, if your inventory is already full, finding Kris' knife where you first met Flowey will cause Frisk to equip the knife immediately while ditching their old weapon.
    • Versions 2.07 onward allow you to access Hard Mode through the Extras menu, which automatically inputs Frisk's name. This allows you to start a new Hard Mode session without needing an empty SAVE file to enter a new name, though if you want to save anyway, you're still limited to the three SAVE files.
    • Dying to certain scripted enemies causes you to respawn in a nearby room even if it doesn't have a SAVE point.
    • In an Obliteration Route, during the second phase of the fight against Paula after you killed Ness, you can tell whether Susie and Noelle are unable to bring themselves to attack by looking at their expressions. Noelle will also never refuse to use Dual Heal.
    • In Unotraveller (the post-section 3 Uno minigame), alongside the usual Uno ruleset, you also get the ability to force your opponents to pick up more cards if you call Uno before they do. This means you can effectively bypass the tedious luck that would normally be involved in getting all of Papyrus' prizes. Zig-Zagged with how your opponents can also call uno before YOU do, forcing you to constantly draw more cards if you aren't paying attention.
  • Anguished Outburst: In Section 3's Obliteration route. The group firstly kills Snowy, which makes Noelle ask Susie if they have just killed him; Susie at first denies that they did, saying that he was part of a bird species, and that it was a different Snowdrake than him, then suddenly the music stops. Noelle's expression changes to a angered look as she denies her words, saying that it was in fact him, and the monster they have just killed was a counterpart of their classmate. In return, Susie tries to still deny it, but gets chewed out by Noelle, yelling that it was him, he is the only BLUE snowdrake in town (not counting his dad), with the same voice; she finishes with saying that she knows all of this is true. Susie just quietly accepts it, as Noelle separates herself away from the group after that outburst.
Noelle: That was Snowy!! The only blue snowdrake in town, not counting his dad? He had the same voice, Susie. And I know that you know, Susie.
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: In Section 3's Obliteration route. Susie will list down every bad thing that they had done, starting strong, and ending weak.
Susie: "So, Kris. You said "I can't control myself" back in that human town... Back when we killed that snake. And now we've killed an entire cave of animals... A whole cult... Two actual children... And this world's Snowy. I'm not mad, just disappointed."
  • Art Evolution:
    • When he appears the second time, Flowey has a larger, more detailed sprite, more animation frames and facial animations matching his dialogue portrait.
    • A few sprites were adjusted in the V2 update to look better, Noelle's falling sprite being a notable example.
  • Art Shift:
    • When the party first falls into EarthBound, the game briefly changes to that game's art style, complete with the 60 FPS text box, before Kris and Noelle cast a spell that changes the art style back to Deltarune's.
    • Chapters 6 and 7 both translate their games' respective art styles perfectly, as seen in the trailer, which also affects their gameplay.
  • The Artifact:
    • The game was directly inspired by the "Goddamn it Kris, where the hell are we?" meme/art trend that was incredibly popular in late September/early October 2021 (with the intro to the game even being initially created and shared as part of the trend). Although the meme itself died out by the time of the first chapter's actual release over a month and a half later, Susie still directly references it, presumably for the game to pay tribute to its origins.
    • The reason you use an updated version of Undertale's battle interface is because Flowey declares no one will know what Kris and Susie are doing if they use the Deltarune interface. When he tries to get Susie on his side due to Susie being a monster, Susie forcefully rejoins Kris' side and she updates the interface to include her health bar and a TP bar. Even after you leave Undertale, you'll continue to use its interface.
    • The Froggit with the "full-screen by pressing F4" dialogue still remarks that he only sees three frogs in the room despite him being the only one visible.
  • Artificial Insolence: Over the course of the "Obliteration" murder spree route, the game introduces a variety of mechanics that let Kris, Susie and Noelle hinder the actions of the SOUL as much as they can.
  • Ascended Glitch: Some of the Punch Card's glitches were added as a feature. This can be used in Section 2 to find a bench Easter Egg and in Section 3 to meet Dr. Gaster in a scene based on an unused G-Man interaction from Half-Life.
  • Asshole Victim: The major bosses of each section (excepting Section 2's Route Boss) are some nasty pieces of work. Suzie and Noelle are still disquieted if you choose to finish them off, but they and everyone else recognize it as Killing in Self-Defense and won't penalize you otherwise.
  • Awesome, but Impractical:
    • Because of Deltarune's grazing mechanic, Flowey's circle bullets attack fills up the TP meter quickly enough for Susie to charge up a Rude Buster attack, making it more of a danger to him than to you.
    • The Manly Bandana in this game works differently than it does in Undertale. It grants the wearer the benefit of growing stronger the closer they are to being downed. Problem is, it has even less defense than the Faded Ribbon and if you're at max HP, you'll deal less damage than if you didn't have it equipped. It doesn't help that the enemies in the section that you find it in are notorious for having ridiculously hard to dodge attacks.
  • Believing Their Own Lies: During Section 3 Obliteration Route, the very first thing the group kills is Snowy. This makes Noelle asks Susie if they have just killed him; Susie in return just tries to deny it, saying that he was probably part of a bird species, and that it was just a different snowdrake. This makes Noelle deny her words, saying that it was in fact him, and they have just killed an counterpart of their classmate. Susie still tries to deny it, but gets interrupted with an Anguished Outburst from Noelle, saying that it was in fact him, with the same only blue colour he had (not counting his dad), with the same voice, and that she knows that is true. This makes Susie be silent in defeat to her words.
  • Bait-and-Switch: Done quite a few times throughout the game. When asking Toriel about the Royal Scientist, you might expect her to talk about Alphys, but instead she refers to the Royal Scientist as "he", which will immediately prompt speculation about this not in fact taking place when the original Undertale would have, but rather when Dr. Gaster was still alive, and thus also raising the prospect of meeting him. However, when asked about the Royal Scientist, Sans (frequently thought by fans to have a connection to Gaster) reveals that Alphys is indeed still the Royal Scientist here, with Toriel's reference to Gaster presumably being a sign of her long isolation from the rest of the Underground.
    • Done again in the EarthBound section. After the boss battle with Mondo Mole, it seems like the section is over, as the "Your Sanctuary" doesn't have any more enemies, and the party seems to be all clear to leave via the grey door, with a farewell to Paula. Then Porky suddenly ambushes them with the same spider mech from the end of the original game, declaring his intent to kill them all to ensure they don't potentially ruin Giygas' plans, forcing them into a confrontation.
    • Done a third time at the end of the Underfell section. At first the Grey Door seems completely unguarded, but before the group can enter, Sans will attack them, taunting the group about how he killed Susie's counterpart and he'll do the same to them.
  • Bait-and-Switch Boss: In section 3, if you go to the room with the mystery door and trigger the Glyde encounter, he will show up. But during Glyde's turn, Jerry comes in and kills him, and becomes the secret boss.
  • Balance Buff: As of the 2.07 update, Noelle's Ice Shock damage formula was reworked, resulting it in dealing extra damage.
  • Big Damn Heroes:
    • In Section 1, after sparing Flowey, he traps the SOUL and surrounds it with pellets, Susie launches a Rude Buster at Flowey, who dodges it, but decides to leave getting Kris and Susie's SOULs until later.
    • In Section 2, after sparing Porky, he does similar and prepares to finish the job, only for Ness to show up and finish off his robot, sending him flying away as a result.
  • Black Comedy: Every Section's Obliteration Route has an option cruel enough to cause Kris to rebel against the SOUL and destroy it, with something comical happening at the same time.
    • Attempting to fight Toriel makes Kris stab the SOUL while a shocked Susie watches with bugged out eyes. On Section 2, then, attempting to convince Noelle to kill for Kris causes the latter to ask Noelle to freeze the SOUL and toss it. Susie arrives just in time to react to the scene with bugged out eyes.
    • Sparing Dogamy as an act of Cruel Mercy after killing Dogaressa causes Susie to flip out and force a confused Kris to let her whack the SOUL like a baseball. If you reload just to do the same thing again, then Kris eagerly calls Susie to hit the SOUL before she even mentions it.
  • Boss Warning Siren: As in Deltarune, the major boss of each chapter is preceded with "Gallery".
    • In Section 2's Obliteration route, the final fight against Ness and Paula is preceded by the same track that plays in Deltarune before the battle with Berdly on the Weird route?
  • Checkpoint Starvation:
    • During Section 1 on an Obliteration route, trying to brag to Toriel about having killed all the monsters results in Kris rebelling and destroying the SOUL, losing quite a bit of progress if the player hadn't backtracked to the SAVE point before Napstablook's room beforehand.
    • In Section 2, the last SAVE point is located in Happy Happy Village, which is next to the cave leading to Liliput Steps where the section's final boss is waiting for you. So if you die to the boss or if you made a mistake, you'd likely have to make the long trek all the way through the cave of critters and fight Mondo Mole all over again if you didn't go back to save after fighting him. Fortunately, it's possible to use the Skip Sandwich to zip by most of the enemies, saving you a lot of time.
  • Color-Coded for Your Convenience:
    • Certain characters have "neon colors" assigned to them which are reflected in the party's HP panels and attack colors, and in certain areas their entire bodies become their neon color. The following neon colors are associated with these characters: Cyan: Kris, Pink: Susie, Yellow: Noelle, Red: Paula, Blue: Ness and Sans, Green: TS!Underswap Chara, and Orange: Dess. Characters who don't have a neon color assigned to them are white by default.
    • Underfell monsters have red battle sprites like most depictions of them in fanon; however, this simply denotes that the monster is "frenzied" and needs to be knocked out of the status by taking specific actions before the player can start working on their mercy bar. When the player can start filling the mercy bar, the monsters turn back to their normal white sprites.
  • Combination Attack:
    • Like in Deltarune, some ACTs use up both Kris and Susie and/or Noelle's turns to use, including Red Buster and Dual Heal.
    • Paula is an interesting case as the way she assists Kris depends on which command you choose. For example, if you use the Fight command or any offensive ACT, Paula will follow up with a standard attack, and if you use a passive ACT, she'll increase the effectiveness of the ACT. The vice versa also applies if Paula uses an offensive PSI move, prompting Kris to follow up with a standard attack.
  • Cooldown Hug: If you're not on an Obliteration route, then Kris will receive one of these from Susie. Whether Susie offers it first or not depends on how long the Obliteration route started, but as long as the first Feraldrake is spared, the hug will happen.
  • Critical Hit:
    • As per usual, pressing "[Z]" when the bars reach the exact right place will cause this.
      • Paula's Clean Pan has a unique SMAAAASH!! effect if you get all four crits, a reference to EarthBound's version of critical hits.
    • There's a rare chance in Section 2 that an enemy will inflict a SMAAAASH!! attack.
  • Cutting the Knot: Susie can forcefully remove obstacles that normally impedes your progress in the original game.
  • Crossover: With Undertale, EarthBound, Underfell (RynoGG), The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, TS!Underswap, Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story, and Toontown Online.
  • Darker and Edgier:
    • The Obliteration Route involves Kris being able to mortally wound the flesh-and-blood characters of EarthBound. This is played for shock like how blood is seemingly drawn from slashing Sans in Undertale but happens multiple times, with each enemy falling over a sickening pool of their own blood and Susie becoming enraged at Kris' actions. Do this for long enough and Susie and Noelle will just stop caring. The ultimate result of this is the murders of both Ness and Paula, dooming the world to being consumed by Giygas. This is obviously very jarring for a generally cartoony game like EarthBound that encourages and facilitates beating up enemies for level grinding, but isn't entirely out of place considering how many concepts from both Undertale and Deltarune can be traced back to The Halloween Hack, a similarly dark take on that game.
      • It's so jarring that an option to turn off the blood puddles was added explicitly for players who cannot handle it.
    • To a lesser degree, since this is a non-profitable fan game, Susie sometimes uses stronger swear words such as "shit" and "fuck".
    • Underfell Sans's death cutscene if you choose to finish him off. Thanks to there already being a large crack below his eye, hitting him will make it spread across his face and makes his jaw and part of his eye socket fall off. As he maniacally taunts you for thinking that this avenges the Suzy that he killed and that no one would care that she's dead, Susie gets so enraged that she mutilates Sans's body in a similar vein to Flowey at the end of Undertale's genocide route.
  • Death Seeker: If you go on the Obliteration Route in Section 2 and make enemies bleed, the donations collector will knock Kris out. Text revealing Kris' thoughts will have them believe they deserve the "reward" and hopes they'll never wake up. Unfortunately for them, they do.
  • Demoted to Extra: You can kill Flowey right after leaving the Ruins, and he doesn't protest.
  • Developer's Foresight:
    • The 1.03 update log says that if you're a hacker, Noelle's battle mechanics are finished.
    • If you try to take away Noelle's ring before entering the first grey door, it will be right back on her finger after going through... somehow.
    • Mr. Saturn has different responses based on what you name yourself.
      • If you name yourself "Kris," the Mr. Saturn dialogue will change to have Kris asking how Mr. Saturn knows their name.
      • Naming yourself "Shayy" will have the game quest you for talking to Mr. Saturn.
      • Naming yourself after certain co-op YouTube channels will have Mr. Saturn remark that he hears not one, but two people.
    • Despite the characters normally not noticing the familiarity of situations when you reload the save file, true to Deltarune, at the end of whatever's available in the game as of the V2 update, Flowey will acknowledge every time you play the game and spare him, indicating that he still retains his memory across reloads. He can't remember things you do in other save files, however, something he himself acknowledges if you beat what's available after sparing him the third time.
    • Section 2's plant-based enemies are weak to PK Fire, though you'd need to backtrack to see this normally.
    • On an Obliteration Route, triggering the concussion event in Section 2 requires that you kill the first Blue Cultist, resulting you in winning gold and ensuring that Susie and Noelle have something to pay to the hospital.
    • Allowing Susie to be K.O.ed in the Toriel fight in Hard Mode will lead to Susie auto-reviving immediately due to Frisk refusing to let Toriel get to her.
    • Attempting to kill Toriel through hacking (or by manipulating gear using Test Mode) will always fail. If an attack would have a higher damage output than Toriel's remaining health, it will miss.
    • Editing the flags so that Kris is swapped out with Frisk but Hard Mode isn't activated causes the Fallen Child's name to remain as Chara. Chara's name appears in the stats menu in place of Frisk's name and their portrait is absent just like in the original game.
    • If you hack the game to get past the giant toilet in Section 2, the NPC there has some dialogue:
      Congratulations!
      You cheated.
    • If you attempt to have Noelle use Ice Shock on Ness or Paula, she'll cast the spell normally, but it will miss. The same goes with Susie's Rude Buster when the enemy is sparable in the same fight.
    • After Section 3's release, attempting to hack the game so that Frisk is beyond the Ruins or that Noelle is in the Ruins results in an error screen occurring when the save file is loaded.
    • Trying to sell the Snow Ring to Sans will have him refuse, saying you should keep it.
    • If Noelle defeats the boss of Section 3 with Ice Shock, he will simply be frozen, though the game still considers this a victory. Susie will then be surprised that the boss did not just fall apart.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Weapons like the Cracked Bat are called "BASH weapons". They're typically stronger than other weapons obtained in the area they're found in, but the aiming gradually speeds up, which can mess players up if they're not used to them.
  • Disappointed in You: Susie says the stock phrase word for word in the Section 3 Obliteration Route after you rest at Q.C.'s house.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: After Kris wakes up from their dream, going back to the start will reveal that Frisk had just fallen into the Underground and is unconscious. Frisk is the protagonist of the Section 1 exclusive hard mode.
  • Early Game Hell: Since the game has fixed encounters (and the enemies have been buffed to stand a chance against two party members), you can only get so much money to buy healing items, and your supply can get depleted pretty easily if you get hit a ton. And unlike in Deltarune, Susie and Kris' health is fixed at 20 and 30 respectively. Once you meet Noelle, you get access to her healing spell and things get a little easier from there. Though, if you remember how ending battles with higher TP nets you more gold in Deltarune, the spider bake sale treats become much more affordable.
  • Easter Egg:
    • Try backtracking to the first room of the game after defeating Flowey. You'll find that Frisk has just fallen into the Underground, though they haven't gained consciousness yet.
    • Each section has a single NPC who will give you an egg if you fulfil certain conditions. The eggs themselves don't do much... until you find a certain container to put them in, granting you a special item.
      • In section 1, if you cleared the Ruins without killing anyone, after sleeping in Home, a Migosp will appear at the end of the hallway of independence to give you the egg. Placing the egg in the candy bowl will cause a chocolate bar to appear.
      • In section 2, if you clear the area peacefully, a Rough Mole will follow you around. Show it to the hint guy back at the beginning of the section and he'll gift you with an egg for showing him the mole. Bring the egg to the empty food basket in Happy Happy Village and you'll find the Aluminum Bat, a weapon just as strong as Susie's stick.
      • In section 3, if you clear the area peacefully, the non-Goner variant of one of Gaster's followers gives you an Egg while at the upper floor of the hotel. Show it to Papyrus, who's waiting next to a cannon near the bridge, and he'll give you Papyrus Charm, which gives invulnerability to the first hit in a battle.
    • Using the Punch Card glitch on the Lilliput Steps cave entrance in section 2 spawns your party in an otherwise unreachable area with a bench which everyone can sit at in a similar manner to the Undertale: Bits and Pieces Game Mod.
  • Even Evil Has Standards: In both Undertale and this game's Hard Mode, Frisk will go with whatever you make them do, even if you make them murder everyone in the Underground. Here, Kris will still kill monsters if you make them, but they'll lower their head in shame because they know what they're doing is wrong. They'll eventually rebel against you if you try to provoke Toriel into fighting you or attempting to manipulate Noelle, forcing a Non-Standard Game Over.
  • Evolving Title Screen: Until you enter the first grey door the the first time, the title screen will consist of Kris and Susie standing in the middle of a black expanse referencing the "Kris where the hell are we" meme. Once you enter the gray door, the title screen from then on will show larger monochrome sprites of Kris, Susie, and Noelle standing in front of a grey door frame. And after the events at QC's house, Kris's hair is out of their face, revealing one of their eyes.
  • Face Framed in Shadow: Kris has this by default as usual. If you pursue an Obliteration Route, other characters (Susie and Noelle in particular, as well as a few other major enemies) will don this as well to show how miserable they have become. Eventually becomes an outright aversion in Chapter 3 no matter which route you're on: After an offscreen conversation, one of Kris's eyes becomes visible at all times.
  • Fake Longevity: You have to constantly reload each room in order to kill all of the bloodless enemies at least three times for each encounter if you're going for an Obliteration Route. Once you do become strong enough to draw blood, enemies with blood won't respawn after you kill them, saving some time.
  • Fake Special Attack:
    • "Ultimate Heal" from Deltarune Chapter 2 returns. Then again, it's the only healing ability you have at that point other than consuming items, but considering the TP cost for how little it heals, it might as well not be there. Fortunately, the lack of healing spells is rectified by Noelle joining the party.
    • Red Buster becomes this on an Obliteration Route, as choosing it will cause harm to the party instead of the opponent.
  • Fish out of Water: While they don't have too much trouble getting around the world of Undertale due to it sharing similar mechanics to Deltarune, the Delta Warriors have to forcefully change their perceptions of the world of EarthBound to match Undertale's because they felt too weird in its default style.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • The voice in Kris' dream tells them to "traverse the grey doors until they reach the golden corridor." After talking to Sans in Snowdin, you'll come across a grey door which all of the party members fall into.
    • A Froggit tells you that one way to spare an enemy is to make them tired and put them to sleep, something that you can't do since you don't have Ralsei in the party (which Susie lampshades). However, once you leave the Ruins, Noelle, who does have a spell to put enemies to sleep, joins your party. It is necessary to spare the boss of Section 3.
  • Gaining the Will to Kill: Just like in Undertale, killing monsters will increase your LOVE. Downplayed for Kris, Susie, and Noelle in which they don't actually want to kill anyone, but slaughtering so many enemies causes them to become numb to the bloodshed. Played straight with Frisk in Hard Mode, who tries to kill Noelle on their own.
  • Glass Cannon: Enemies found in Section 3 have low HP compared to most of the ones that you find in Section 2, but they have high attack and their bullet patterns are extra hard to dodge.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: After the conversation in QC's house, anytime Kris uses special attack commands from their attack menu, their eye glows red.
  • Greater-Scope Villain: A mysterious voice (likely the same voice that speaks to the player at the beginning of Deltarune Chapter 1) talks to Kris in a dream, telling them to "defeat the one with their own essence."
  • Green Thumb: Flowey primarily attacks using sharp vines.
  • Guest-Star Party Member: Paula joins you in the EarthBound section. She is described as an "essence holder." While she is in the party, you can either use Kris' ACTs or Paula's PSI, but not both in the same turn.
  • Guide Dang It!: The fangame fully expects that you already know how to play Undertale and Deltarune, so things such as pre-existing SOUL modes and certain kinds of bullet colors are left unexplained.
  • Heroic BSoD: After going through Section 2's Obliteration route, it will leave Noelle severely traumatized that they have just killed two kids on their way out. During Section 3's Obliteration route beginning, the very first thing you kill is a snowdrake, which Noelle recognizes was Snowy. That makes her snap out of her state for a while, to lash out at Susie for thinking that it wasn't him they have killed; she later separates herself from the group, saying that she can't handle this anymore. She has a much smaller one later on if the player insists on going back to kill the Lesser Dog.
  • Have We Met?:
    • When Toriel first sees Kris, she mistakes them for Chara and runs away in fright. When Kris and Susie catch up to Toriel later on, Toriel continues to mistake Kris for Chara until Susie mentions Kris' name and brings up that she's Kris' mother (and that her last name was Dreemur). Toriel then deduces that Kris and Susie come from another world and everything makes more sense.
    • This happens again with Undertale!Sans and Deltarune!Noelle. Sans, however, is much quicker to figure out the situation.
    • Talk to Doggo in the post-Section 3 intermission and he'll remark that the trio seems familiar for some reason. He'll even shudder if you've killed his Underfell counterpart.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]:
    • Averted. While the game does ask for a name, it asks for your name, and thus the name of the fallen child will always be "Chara" unless you’re playing Hard Mode, where Chara is named Frisk.
    • A Mr. Saturn says your name in Twoson if you inspect a certain door.
  • How Did You Know? I Didn't: When Flowey tries to give an explanation of the SOUL to Kris and Susie, Susie finds it suspicious and asks if he's trying to take their SOULs. Flowey asks Susie how she knows that, and Susie tells him that she didn't know until he asked that question.
  • It Amused Me:
    • In one of the dialogue options that the Player can choose when Susie asks Kris in the Obliteration Route "Why do this?" Half of the options that the player can choose is "Boredom", "Curiosity", "Content", and "...", three of which are just admitting the player's amusement from this route.
    • Likewise, later on, if the player attacks Susie and tells her to shut up, she'll ask the SOUL why they tried to kill her. One of the options (that doesn't turn her Devious) is "I want to see what happened".
  • Identical Stranger: A fake Ralsei smoking weed appears where you find the Toy Knife. He later reappears when you fight Porky's minions, prompting Susie to ask why he didn't help, and he simply asks if he's even relevant to the story. Both times, he'll simply disappear if you try to get him to join. He can be seen by other people, as proven if you interact with Ralsei in Section 3, then backtrack to the Lesser Dog room (if you spared Lesser Dog) to find a Ralsei snow sculpture.
  • Improvised Weapon: Both Kris and Susie start the game with pencils, yet they're still strong enough to destroy monsters. Justified due to monsters being weaker in Undertale than in Deltarune, though there's no such justification once you're in EarthBound. In Snowdin, Susie picks up the stick that's supposed to be stepped on in Undertale and replaces her pencil with it.
  • Infinity +1 Sword:
    • You can get Section 2's Egg by showing the hint guy from the start the Rough Mole. Placing the Egg in the empty food basket will grant you the Aluminum bat, a weapon with an attack power of 8.
    • The Clean Pan from Section 2's Obliteration Route. You get it by picking it up after killing Paula, who is basically five times more dreadful to fight than Deltarune's Jevil. The pan in question gives you a whopping attack power of 12, making the Tough Glove you find in the box (having an attack power of 5) worthless.
    • Killing Jerry will allow you to take his Bluster Blade, a "KATANA" type weapon with an attack power of 12. It's not as hard hitting as the Clean Pan as it can only deal SLASH damage at most, but if you hit a crit, the attack will hit all enemies in battle.
  • Involuntary Group Split: In Section 3, Kris has to do some fast thinking to escape from Undyne, jumping through a grey door — before Susie and Noelle can follow. Flowey on the Pacifist route will note this is especially bad because Kris can't cast Light Clear without Noelle's help, so not only is Kris alone in an unfamiliar world, they'll have to navigate it as Hylia intended.
  • Internal Deconstruction: The Obliteration Route is this to the Genocide route in Undertale and fan games that have the Genocide route. Unlike those games, Kris is very much their own person, and while you're piloting their body, they still have a will of their own and very much do not want to go on the kill everything route, and will actively rip the SOUL out and shatter it over especially heinous actions. It comes to a head in chapter 3 where Susie and Noelle learn about the SOUL, and all three agree to make the player's life as annoying as possible to try and get them to stop being such a jerkass.
  • "Just Joking" Justification: If you attack a Chilldrake enough to calm them down, this is what they claim their earlier threats were.
  • It Gets Easier: If you decide to go through with an Obliteration Route, by the time you've killed all of the enemies before encountering Mondo Mole, your party becomes numb to the bloodshed, something which Susie acknowledges after killing Mondo Mole. By the time Ness and Paula are dead, everyone's too depressed to even care anymore. They ease up after resting at Q.C.'s in Section 3 and start actively attempting to prevent you from performing actions that lead things to escalating, though they note how strange it is that they're able to kill enemies more easily.
  • Kick the Dog: Once he finds out there's another world and figures there's another Asriel there and that Kris is the other world counterpart of Chara, Flowey does not restrain himself when taunting Kris about it. When Flowey starts talking like Asriel and with Asriel's face, Kris starts shaking. This is what causes Susie to declare that Flowey has crossed the line and for both of them to brandish their weapons to fight.
  • Kill and Replace: After hearing that there's another world where Toriel's children didn't die, Flowey plans to use Kris' SOUL to go to that world and live the life that he never got to live.
  • Leaked Experience: When Noelle joins your party later on, she'll have the same amount of EXP as Kris and Susie despite not killing anyone at that point. Word of God explains that Susie and Noelle's LV directly reflects Kris' LV.
  • Lighter and Softer: Downplayed. In GG's Underfell series, Ice Cap swears at the protagonists for ignoring its hat, screaming the F-bomb when you ignore it the second time. Here in Section 3, its swears are toned down, which is somewhat ironic considering that Susie uses F-bombs in this game.
Ice Cap when irritated in Underfell: LOOK AT MY FUCKING HAT!!!!
Ice Cap when you irritate them in Deltatraveler Section 3: LOOK AT MY DAMN HAT!!!!!!!!!
  • Malicious Misnaming: During the Electric Maze cutscene in Section 3, Susie refers to the world's Sans as "smiley trashbag" due to his murderous nature. During Sans's boss fight, Kris can call him a "smiley trashbag" as one of the ways to distract him.
  • Mood Whiplash:
    • This exchange:
Toriel (crying): My child, who had been taken from us far too early. My child, who in spite of your light-hearted pranks... Was a delight to our people down here. And inspire hope into the lives of many. My child, is it truly you?
Susie: What??? Taken??? Ma'am, I'm pretty sure that Kris is too weenie to get themselves killed.
    Toriel (dumbfounded): ...Kris?
    • When you become strong enough to make enemies bleed in Section 2, both the fight against Coil Snake and the Blue Cultist end like this, the music cutting out as the enemy's blood slowly spreads across the floor. And unlike Undertale, you have two companions as accomplices.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • The first Froggit that Kris and Susie encounter will tell them that if they make the enemy tired, they can spare them instantly. Susie is quick to point out that neither her or Kris knows how to do that, as in Deltarune, tired enemies require a certain spell to be spared that way.
    • Mechanical enemies in the EarthBound section explode upon defeat with the same explosion graphic as Tsunderplane in Undertale.
    • If you let the Blue Cultists paint you blue, the whole party's sprites will become blue. Kris in particular will resemble their Dark World form.
    • Any enemies that don't turn into dust upon defeat runs away from the fight (unless you're on an Obliteration Route...)
    • In the Obliteration Route fight against Ness and Paula, PK Thunder and PK Starstorm have the same graphics and bullet patterns as some of Asriel's attacks.
    • Official artwork of Ness and Sans seen in YouTube thumbnails for the OST have them both use the same shade of blue, referencing the fan theories that Sans and Ness are related.
    • Likewise, in the Obliteration fight, Ness's animation resembles Sans' from his fight.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Downplayed, of course, in which Kris already has a name (and Frisk still exists in this Alternate Continuity), but this time around, since Susie already knew their name, Toriel, a Froggit, and Flowey learn their name faster than they learn Frisk's in the original game and they aren't confused for Chara by Flowey.
  • Nerf:
    • Because you have multiple party members, some enemies become harder to spare. A notable example is Loox, who requires Kris to "don't pick on" and requires Susie to use S-Action. Some ACTs will also use up multiple members' turns.
Loox: But what about the girl?
    • There are a few things that Kris can't do or is less effective compared to Frisk in Undertale. For example, in battle, you can only use the Punch Card on Susie.
    • Kris will get nerfed with a concussion if you try to go for an Obliteration Route in Section 2, lowering their attack and defense. Occasionally, they'll also fail to make a move on their turn during fights.
    • Noelle's Ice Shock costs 24% TP here, opposed to her only needing 16% TP in Deltarune.
    • Some enemy bullet patterns in Section 3 are toned down from the ones in the Underfell series.
    • In the full Section 3 update, the cost of Kris's X-Slash in the Section 2 Obliteration Boss was increased to 40% TP.
    • Sans's HP at the beginning of his fight on the Section 3 release was 1800 no matter what. In the 3.0.1 patch on the very next day, his HP ranges from 1400 to 1800 depending on your LV.
  • Never Shall The Selves Meet: Inverted Fate's Papyrus believes he should avoid meeting his Undertale counterpart to avoid any catastrophes that may be caused by this. Or, at least he believes so, as nothing extreme seemed to occur when Noelle was face to face with Noel.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: In Section 2's Obliteration Route, after killing Ness, Susie will refuse to use Red Buster on Paula the second time you command her to do so. Unfortunately, this causes X-Slash to become available in the ACT menu, granting Kris a slightly weaker but way more cost-efficient source of damage.
  • Nightmare Face: One of Flowey's attacks involves making his head grow and resemble his Photoshop Flowey face. You'll have to constantly move left and right to dodge his bite attack.
  • Non-Lethal K.O.:
    • Susie hits Flowey with Rude Buster and the worst it does to him is knock him into the background. In later sections, human enemies flee the fight instead of dying (as long as you're still on the normal route).
    • After killing Lesser Dog, Susie will rehearse what she'll do to stop Kris later on, then she'll allow you to end the fight... only you have the option to attack her instead for betrayal damage. Despite the damage being in the hundreds, Susie turns out to be just fine, though she spares herself just to be safe.
  • Non-Standard Game Over: Once an Episode, as Video Game Cruelty Punishment if you do especially screwed-up things on the Obliteration route.
    • In the first chapter, if you try to make Kris brag to Toriel about having killed all the monsters, Kris won't have it — they'll tear out their SOUL and shatter it themselves.
    • If you try to make Noelle go along with your murderous plans in Section 2, Kris goes away from being the Silent Protagonist and begs Noelle to destroy the SOUL for them. She freezes it.
    • In the third section, if on the Obliteration route you kill Dogaressa and spare Dogamy, Susie proposes playing baseball with the SOUL. Kris makes the throw... and on the game over screen, Susie brags about having hit a home run!
  • Noob Cave: Section 1 is filled with Undertale enemies which, although their Spare conditions were tweaked to be slightly harder, have the same HP and attacks that they did in the vanilla game. Having a party of more than one character here, anyone familiar with the Undertale battle system or its myriad fangames won't feel threatened until the Wake-Up Call Boss. Once you reach Section 2 and have your primary party of three, the difficulty ramps up accordingly.
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: In contrast to his iconic, threatening introduction in Undertale, Flowey makes an absolute ass out of himself here due to Kris and Susie relying on fundamentally different rules that he can't account for. But then he returns as the boss for the chapter and is a severe increase in difficulty, pulling out all the plant-based tricks you'd expect from a Foul Flower without even needing any SOULs to power him up.
  • Not So Stoic: If you look closely, you can see Kris clenching their teeth when Flowey tries to squeeze out their SOUL. They'll also lower their head in shame if you're going for the Obliteration Route.
  • NPC Roadblock: A biker (alongside the oversized toilet) at the leftmost room in Section 2 prevents you from going to the previous town. In an Obliteration Route, he gets replaced by a bunny NPC who is deliberately exploiting this trope to prevent you from slaughtering the townspeople who retreated there.
  • Obvious Rule Patch:
    • Because having more party members makes Undertale gameplay easier, some ACTs now require you to use up two party members' turns. Also, some ACTs no longer make enemies instantly spareable, requiring Kris and friends to use multiple ACTs where Frisk would've immediately filled their mercy meter in a single ACT.
    • In the original Undertale and Deltarune, weapons were rather useless on the Pacifist route when you were actively avoiding beating up enemies. Here, the Section bosses must be beaten up before they can be spared or killed, giving weapons a purpose regardless of route.
  • Oh, Crap!:
    • Normally, the cutscene before fighting the first Blue Cultist will end with Susie threatening to beat him up. However, if you're on the road to an Obliteration Route in Section 2, the cutscene with the Blue Cultist will mainly be the same until he threatens to start a battle, which causes Susie to panic knowing that Kris might order them to straight up murder the Cultist.
    • On a much smaller scale, checking the dusty tutu in section 3's intermission will prompt a conversation about dust and death, where Susie points out that death is a natural thing that happens. Noelle starts a rebuttal, but quickly agrees with Susie, with a facial expression that implies she realized the implications.
  • Once per Episode: Once per chapter, Ralsei (or an hallucination of Ralsei, it's not very clear) smoking a giant blunt will show up. Interacting with him will have Susie call him out on what is he doing and why isn't he helping them, prompting him to just say "doobie" and vanishing.
    • Of course, every time you enter a new world, Susie asks where the hell they are.
    • Ralsei smoking a fat blunt, only to disappear when you talk to him.
    • It becomes possible to obtain an egg from some NPC when any given section is almost completed, which can be delivered somewhere in exchange for a strong item.
    • The boss at the end of each section must have their HP depleted whether you want to resolve the battle peacefully or not.
    • The Obliteration route will punish you for an especially heinous (and usually obscure) action by having the player characters destroy Kris' soul, resulting in a Non-Standard Game Over.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business:
    • Checking Susie's stats after making her kill Napstablook reveals that she has started sweating (though she'll change back to normal when Noelle joins the party), additionally she gets more and more angry if you continue killing in Twoson, even going as far to refuse to use Red Buster after the first you use it on Paula and hit Kris if you try to do so again. Kris will also lower their head in shame as the Obliteration Route kicks into gear, to which Susie and Noelle will join in after killing Ness, the former wincing and the latter silently sobbing to herself randomly during the Paula fight, rendering them unable to do certain actions on that turn. Same goes for Frisk in their scenario... until they start smiling.
    • If you kill Napstablook with Susie's Rude Buster, they'll be so shocked you found a way to kill them that they'll drop a Precision F-Strike (though this was retracted in a later update).
    Napstablook: what the hellnote
    • Sans also becomes somewhat more serious and cooperative than he normally is the moment he realizes Kris and their companions are from another world. He's still relatively relaxed about it, but he pretty much drops the jokes and puns (at least at first), tells them where to go, and warns them about Papyrus before leaving. Considering his usual complexes about the whole timeline thing, he probably has quite the investment in resolving this unexpected mess in space-time.
  • One-Hit Kill: Attacking Napstablook with Rude Buster will kill them instantly.
    • In Section 2's Obliteration route, attacking Ness while he and Paula are sparing you will kill him instantly, like some of the bosses in Undertale.
    • Some monsters in Section 3's Obliteration Route will also be instantly killed by Rude Buster. Mainly Ice Caps.
  • Original Generation: The Jerry fangirl in Section 3, after you fought the hidden boss. Apparently it was based off of a failed Section 3 icon.
  • Player Nudge:
    • When you encounter a Loox, a player might be inclined to ACT with Kris and spare with Susie. However, this will only raise 50% of the Mercy Meter. Luckily, the Loox will ask for the girl's (Susie) opinion, teaching the player that some enemies will sometimes require more than one ACT (or in this case from multiple party members) to be spared.
    • If you fight Napstablook on an Obliteration Route and keep attempting to FIGHT them, they won't get hurt because they're a ghost, so the Flavor Text will eventually encourage you to spare Napstablook by using Susie's S-Action in the MAGIC menu. Of course, if you already figured it out, there's another option in the MAGIC menu that will let you keep killing...
    • In an Obliteration Route, if you try to proceed through the cave with the Coil Snake without killing all of the enemies in the previous rooms three times each, the game (or maybe Kris themself) encourages you to keep going forward since you're already pretty strong in an attempt to derail the player from fulfilling the Obliteration Route.
    • Susie and Noelle both try to stop you from going back to kill Lesser Dog on an Obliteration route several times. Susie will actively pick up Kris/the player the first time they check the lesser dog and actively try to spell out how pointless killing a 'scared little dog' is. It takes the player actively forcing Kris back to the previous room several times for her to realize how there's no stopping them. Depending on how it goes, it may end with Susie taking a more proactive approach to screw with the player from then on.
    • During the secret Jerry fight in section 3, the narration box will pretty much outright tell you what action to take next to win the fight peacefully.
    • Getting to the bridge before Snowdin Town without eliminating every available enemy prompts narration that states "You feel ready to cross the bridge."
  • Point of No Return: When you become strong enough to "draw blood," killing the Coil Snake will make it bleed, making Susie become very angry with Kris and telling them they will need to have a talk later. If you decide to kill the Blue Cultist right after, Kris is given a concussion by the donations collector, preventing you from being able to team up with Paula, as Paula will leave the party to secure passage to the healing sanctuary for Kris.
  • Precision F-Strike: While it's not said out loud, in Section 3 on an Obliteration Route, keep interacting with a depressed Noelle before triggering the electric maze cutscene and she'll think this:
Noelle! (Can they stop fucking staring at me?)
  • Pun-Based Title: "In Ruins", referencing your location and the phrase "left in ruins", and "Oh Mother", referencing the Japanese name of the series EarthBound is from.
  • Rage Breaking Point:
    • Kris is only willing to let you be so cruel on the Obliteration route.
      • If you try to tell Toriel that you killed all of the monsters, Kris will forcefully supress the words before tearing their SOUL out and destroying it, causing a Non-Standard Game Over. This prevents you from going on the worst possible Obliteration route.
      • Likewise, trying to recreate the Snowgrave Route with Noelle will cause Kris to beg Noelle to freeze the SOUL and throw it away.
      • If you make Underfell Dogamy and Dogaressa sparable, then kill them (or worse, kill one and leave the other to wallow in misery), Kris will remove their SOUL and have Susie smash it at full force over the horizon.
    • Killing Coil Snake on an Obliteration Route will cause Susie to grab Kris by the throat, only stopping when Noelle mentions that Kris hasn't been themself lately.
    • Killing Snowy will push Noelle to the edge, and she'll temporarily leave the party.
    • Killing Lesser Dog, attacking Susie, and then admitting that you want her dead will cause her to declare that she's "done" and become "Devious".
  • Red Herring: The first section of the game seems to be building up to you meeting Alphys, making it appear you'll be playing the majority of Undertale. In addition, the first section is titled "The Ruins" instead of "Undertale". Then you fall into the first grey door and you find out why the game is called Deltatraveler.
  • Resistant to Magic: Exploding Oaks tank ICE magic attacks, but take normal damage from other sources.
  • Route Boss:
    • In Section 1, Napstablook can only be fought on a Obliteration Route. This is because Susie's Rude Buster can kill them.
    • In section 2, the Obliteration Route boss is Ness and Paula.
    • In Section 3, the Dogi can only be fought on an Obliteration Route.
  • Recycled Soundtrack:
    • Most of the non-battle themes and a few of the EarthBound battle themes are reused from their source games.
    • The Megalovania remix played in Paula’s battle was a hypothetical Super Smash Bros. Ultimate remix of The Halloween Hack’s version of Megalovania completely separate from Deltatraveler found here.
  • Retcon: In Underfell (RynoGG), the Ball Game is unplayable as the ball immediately melts as soon as Frisk kicks it. In Deltatraveler Section 3, however, the Ball Game is fully playable, though it can only be passed after defeating the Ice Cap hiding inside the hole.
  • Running Away to Cry: When Toriel first meets Kris, she mistakes them for Chara and runs off into the Ruins. When Kris and Susie catch up with her, they find her crying, but when Susie says Kris's name, Toriel regains her composure and apologizes for her emotional outburst.
  • Running Gag: Just to name a few:
    • "GODDAMMIT KRIS WHERE THE HELL ARE WE?" And variations of the quote.
    • The Stylistic Suck pose Susie makes, even without using the aforementioned quote.
    • The snapping sound effect that plays along with the aforementioned gags.
  • Schmuck Bait: Section 3 has two different kinds:
    • In both routes, there's a tree with a red button on it. Press it, and Kris explodes.
    • On Obliteration, there's one for the Player, instead of the characters. After the group talk about what's been going on, Red Buster unlocks as a command for Susie in regular fights. Choose it, and she uses it on the party instead of the enemies. If used in boss fights, it will down everyone except for Kris (provided that they had more than 1 HP prior to getting hit).
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Flowey believes that because Susie is a monster, the human (Kris) has to fight her and thus Susie has to fight on Flowey's side. Susie isn't having any of that and puts her health bar next to Kris', adds a TP bar, and slaps Flowey with Rude Buster.
Susie: NOW GET OUTTA HERE!!! [Susie casts Rude Buster, knocking Flowey into the background]
  • Serial Escalation: According to the sections revealed, the non-Undertale related areas progressively get more and more different from Undertale and Deltarune's style. EarthBound is the closest game to Undertale given that one of the games from the franchise was one of the main sources of inspiration for the game. But then we have The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, which, while the theme isn't something foreign to Undertale, isn't a turn based RPG, then we have Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story which contains areas reminiscent to a 2D platformer and features jumping as a main mechanic, and lastly there's Toontown Online, which is a 3D online multiplayer RPG featuring Funny Animals who have to fight off robotic businessmen using slapstick.
  • Sequel Hook: Each version of the game ends on a cliffhanger after teasing the next Section.
    • In version 1, Noelle falls into a mysterious grey door, with Susie and Kris following suit. As they're falling, their colors change into their HUD colors and the screen fades to black. An EarthBound text box then appears saying "to be continued."
    • In version 2, the party meet Papyrus from Underfell (RynoGG), who initially is willing to let them move along, but stops them when he realizes that Kris might be a human. Then that universe's Sans rushes Kris, and the screen cuts to black, with another "to be continued" message, and then to the credits.
    • In version 3, Undyne chases down the trio into Waterfall before threatening to rip out the human's SOUL. Kris does just that to freak her out, then asks her what she would do if the SOUL fell into another dimension through a nearby gray door. Kris then opens and jumps into the door before Noelle and Susie could follow them. Then, a The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past text box appears, saying "To be continued..."
  • Shielded Core Boss: A sort of an inversion: when Paula joins the party, she'll ride on Kris' back. She won't take damage from enemies unless Kris runs out of HP.
    • Porky's mech plays this straight with the eye that is the mech's only weak point; you need to topple the mech to force the eye open.
  • Shared Universe: Deltatraveler's version of Undertale's Underground is this to Undertale Yellow's Underground, as indicated by the appearance of a Frostermint in the post-section 3 intermission. In a special end screen added to v3.0.2, Flowey confirms that he had dealt with Clover before, describing them as being just as predictable as any monster due to their weaker than average determination.
  • Shoo Out the Clowns: During Section 1, you cannot eat the moss in the ruins or see the Ralsei apparition on the Obliteration route. In Section 2, once you fully embark on a Obliteration route, you cannot see the Ralsei apparition in this chapter either. Noelle's comically sad face doesn't appear either, since Paula doesn't join you, which causes it to appear. In Section 3, once again, the Ralsei apparition is completely gone.
  • Shoot the Medic First: The final boss of the Obliteration Route in Section 2 flat-out requires this. True to his home game, Ness is more of a support party member, and will heal back any damage Paula takes from attacking her. Ness must be killed first to get a chance at whittling down Paula. Even lowering both of their guards and making them spareable won't let you get the drop on Paula; Ness will take the hit for her instead.
  • Shout-Out: Multiple.
    • The entire game is a nod to the "GOD DAMN IT, KRIS! WHERE THE HELL ARE WE?!" meme.
    • The interface from Deltarune appears very briefly in the beginning.
    • The chocolate bar appearing in Ruins could be a reference to TS!Underswap.
    • The toilet from Deltarune will block your way back to Onett.
    • If you name yourself "Shayy", the game will reference the streamer of the same name.
    • If you kill Snowdrake in GG!Underfell, there is a nod to Snowy, your classmate in Deltarune, who was himself a callback to the character with the same name from Undertale.
    • During the stay at QC's house, Gaster will re-begin the creation of your vessel from Deltarune, seemingly for real this time.
    • One of the fight themes from Undertale: Bits and Pieces is reused for the Greater Dog fight.
    • Frostermint from ''Undertale Yellow appears multiple times.
    • An Allay from Minecraft appears in Snowdin Town.
    • Papyrus from Inverted Fate appears to play UNO. However, the ability to play it is revoked on the Obliteration Route.
    • The song "Frankness" from Undertale: Papyrus's Belief appears. Selecting during UNO basically starts UNO's hard mode.
      • There exists an Adapted Out shout out. Originally, the room where you get the Old Tutu was supposed to be in the art-style of Undertale: Bits & Pieces. This was likely dropped after the mod's creator was arrested for possessing child pornography, something Ryno GG, Deltatraveler's director, openly called him out for.
  • Silent Protagonist: Whoever the player is in control of lacks a text box, but they can still converse normally with other characters. If control is severed from the player at any given moment, their text box becomes visible to the player. And during particularly out-there sequences, they will have dialogue while the player is still in control, though this is much rarer.
  • Stalker without a Crush: Should you choose not to pay the donations collector in Happy Happy Village, she follows you around until you either leave or finally pay her.
  • Status Effects: Pursuing the Obliteration route in Section 2 involves the donations collector suddenly hitting Kris over the head and knocking them out. Kris will then wake up with a Concussion status that lowers their attack and defense, as well as bandages appearing on their status portrait.
  • Strange Minds Think Alike: Examining the cactus in Toriel's room will have Kris make a mental note that it reminds them of Berdly for some reason. Examine it a second time and Susie will tell them to knock it off, as looking at it just makes her think of Berdly.
    • This, itself, is a nod to Undertale's description of the cactus as "the most tsundere of all plants".
  • Suddenly Speaking:
    • During the Obliteration Route in Section 2, Kris is knocked out by the donations collector and then we see some lines from their perspective, as they berate themself for being unable to stop the SOUL's violent actions. They also speak during the final part of Hard Mode, as well as if they rip out their SOUL in another attempted Weird Route with Noelle.
    • After the dream cutscene in Section 3, Kris will have visible dialogue in moments where the SOUL is outside of them, similarly to the above examples. Though, there are a few moments where their dialogue does become visible even when the SOUL is in them, though you'd have to go out of your way to find those moments (a vague example being if you find the Ralsei snow sculpture).
  • Support Party Member: Explosive Oaks simply move the bullet board left and right. If you defeat one, however, they'll explode at the same time as other enemies attacking.
  • Surprisingly Realistic Outcome: The Obliteration Route only lets you get away with so much.
    • At the final battle in Section 2's Obliteration Route, Susie and Noelle will refuse to attack Ness when he's at critical health, forcing Kris to finish him off themselves. In the final phase, Susie will only allow you to make her use Red Buster once. After that, she'll attack you if you attempt to force her hand.
    • In Section 3's Obliteration Route, killing the first Snowdrake will have Noelle become distraught over killing the world's equivalent of Snowy and she will leave to distance herself from Kris. Susie will follow her to make sure she's okay, leaving you to fend for yourself. After all, as Susie herself says, by then you're probably fine on your own due to the strength you've earned. As a result, Susie and Noelle will be away from Kris except for the electrical maze puzzle segment, where they're forced to stay until Kris completes the puzzle, and the letter trap, though in this case Noelle already went ahead on her own, but Susie stayed behind to make sure Kris doesn't die to the trap. Susie will only rejoin Kris as a party member when you enter the forest of the wild beasts.
      • Related to Section 3's Obliteration Route, because you earned so much EXP from murdering enemies that bleed, killing enemies that dust barely gives you EXP progress, meaning that you stay at LV 13 even when you kill all the enemies before the letter trap. Especially considering that the area you're in is rather early in that game, meaning that enemies there don't award much EXP in the first place.
  • Suspicious Video-Game Generosity: Before you find the first grey door, you find Noelle, who has equipment with a magic stat of 5, and Susie finds a branch, raising her attack stat from 2 to 8. Soon, the party falls through a grey door which leads to EarthBound featuring enemies with much more appropriately difficult bullet patterns.
  • Technical Pacifist: As per-usual, the player can deal as much damage as they like to the enemies and still be on the pacifist route so long as they don't deal the killing blow. And even if the player never attacks, a few bosses will require the player to fight them in order to spare them at the end, as well as the player's actions still resulting in deaths even if it wasn't the group themselves who pulled the trigger. On the pacifist route, fighting Jerry in chapter 3 will result in Glyde's death, as Jerry will interrupt the battle to murder Glyde, even though the group will get no EXP since they weren't the ones who killed him.
  • Troubled Fetal Position: During Section 3's Obliteration route, Kris will crawl into this shaky state while crying when being confronted by Susie for acting this way; this makes Susie saddened, as she tries her best to not cry herself. Before long, she gets overwhelmed and breaks down crying as well.
  • Taking You with Me: The Explosive Oak lives up to its name.
  • Tempting Fate: When you're about to enter Lilliput Steps in an Obliteration Route, Susie mentions having become numb to the killing, but since they're almost at the end, they shouldn't worry about anything as long as no one stupidly tries to stand in their way. Cue the Section boss.
  • These Hands Have Killed: Should the player enter the Obliteration route, Kris' dream scene in Section 1 has them looking upon their bloody hands in distress rather than looking upon the SOUL.
  • Trailers Always Spoil: Even if you don't keep in touch with Sarah's Twitter or the official Deltatraveler Discord server, the 2022 Underevent trailer for the game shamelessly advertises Kris' eye being visible from Section 4 onwards (it's actually revealed sometime during Section 3). However, the circumstances that cause this change were kept secret.
  • Training Stage: Version 2.06 adds this a "training mode" option to the main menu. Here, you can manipulate your party's LV, swap out weapons (Susie only uses weapons exclusive to her), or add/remove party members (though, Kris must be in the party). Attacking the training dummy will have it announce each party member's scores depending on how close they were to getting a crit. You can also test out weapons which aren't supposed to be used yet, such as the Tough Glove and the Clean Pan.
  • Traveling Salesman: Sans will follow you into EarthBound offscreen and finds several useful items, offering to sell them to you. Like most shopkeepers in Undertale, he won't buy stuff from you.
  • The Unfought:
    • Under normal circumstances, the Napstablook fight is skipped, as Susie talks to them and they get out of your way without conflict. However, if you've been thoroughly exterminating monsters, you will forcibly initiate a battle, allowing you to potentially kill them with Susie's magic.
    • Toriel is much more willing to let Kris and Susie leave the Ruins than she was Frisk, requiring just a few gentle reminders that they have a home to return to and not making them fight to prove their strength. Even in an Obliteration route, you can't fight her — if you take the dialogue options that seem to lead in that direction, Kris won't have it, and will tear out their SOUL and shatter it rather than fighting their otherworldly mom. Averted in Hard Mode, where you have to fight her briefly to protect Susie, though if you happen to be on Obliteration in that mode, Susie will quickly tell Toriel that Frisk may need rest, preventing you from making them say anything that would provoke Toriel into fighting you and thus avoiding any chance of Toriel dying.
    • Dogami and Dogaressa become this on any Section 3 run that's not Obliteration, since Susie and Noelle will claim Kris isn't a human, and their smell comes from the Feraldrakes in the forest below.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight:
    • None of the party members seem to comment on the abundance of humans in EarthBound despite living in a town where Kris is the only human. Likewise, none of the humans seem to question the two bipedal beasts following the human teenager around (though one does mistake Susie for an animal).
    • Paula doesn't comment on the weed-smoking Ralsei apparition after the first battle with her in the party, though you'd think she would.
    • The new "flavor moles" added in the 2.07 update are unaffected by whatever route you're on, meaning that they are completely unfazed if you're killing everyone.
  • Useless Item: The Tough Glove. It's a Quad-type weapon with an attack value of 5. Problem is, its reticles are extremely tightly spaced between each other which requires you to mash the attack button at a rapid and consistent speed to maximize damage. And even then, its awful crit multiplier means that perfecting the attack only nets you 41 damage at LV 1, which is only barely stronger (by 1 damage) than the bat weapons you can obtain in the previous world. It's damage gets slightly better as your LV increases, but by then you likely already have the superior Clean Pan, which has a significantly better crit multiplier.
  • Variable Mix: Each section has a remix of Rude Buster. Section 1's battle theme, "Enemy Approaching", gives a slightly more lighthearted variation of the theme mixed with Undertale's "Enemy Approaching" while Section 2's battle theme, "Battle Against a Rude Opponent", has more SNES-esque sounds with the EarthBound "WOW" sound effect playing in one segment.
  • Video Game Cruelty Punishment:
    • After making Coil Snake and the Blue Cultist bleed, you're "rewarded" with a concussion, forcing you to go to the town hospital and lowering your attack and defense. Oh, and your friends emptied your entire budget just so the hospital would take you in. And to top things off, since everyone in town ran off, the person who would be able to heal concussions is gone. Continue further down the path and your allies will be inflicted with the "depression" status, causing them to be unable to bring themselves to attack on occasion. While Susie will instantly recover upon seeing Kris getting attacked by Underfell!Sans, Noelle will still be depressed and will remain so even if you spare Snowy.
      • If you've at least killed Coil Snake, Kris will become "deceptive" after revealing the nature of their situation to Susie and Noelle, meaning that any attempts at using Red Buster in battle will result in an instant Game Over due to Susie attacking Kris with it. That is, unless you're in a boss fight, in which case Kris might survive with 1 HP while the rest of the party is downed, leaving them briefly shocked.
    • Killing Snowy's Underfell equivalent in Section 3 will result in Noelle emotionally breaking, causing her to go ahead without Kris. Susie follows her to make sure she's okay, leaving you all alone. Though, this seems to be more of a way to keep the difficulty balanced rather than a steep punishment, considering that your LV is already very high and especially considering that Undertale monsters are more vulnerable to physical damage.
    • Much like in Undertale, going all the way through with the Obliteration Route in Section 2 will lead to a boss fight against Ness and Paula, which is significantly more difficult than the boss of the Normal Route.
    • Sans will increase his prices if you're on the Obliteration Route in Section 3. And they'll increase even further in the intermission area afterwards if you keep going.
    • Each section has a scene where the player has a chance to do something that's really beyond the pale — for example, trying to make Kris fight Undertale Toriel, an alternate version of their own mother. If the player takes these chances, the "reward" will be Kris having his own SOUL destroyed for an instant Game Over.
    • After killing Lesser Dog in the Obliteration Route, Susie will go on the "enemy side" to rehearse what she will need to do to attack Kris the next time "they" stoop low again. You can "kill" her after she's done, which, while required to continue the Obliteration Route, won't actually kill Susie, but she will call you out for it. If you tell her to "Shut up", depending on what you tell her next, especially if you threaten to kill her, Susie will become "done" with you, meaning that there will be a small chance in battles that the next action she takes will either harm the party or help the enemy.
      • Kill Sans with Ice Shock after Susie becomes devious and she will throw her weapon away, thus lowering her attack power.
  • Video Game Remake: By inputting a secret code (Left, Right, Left, Left, Right, [Z], [Z], [C]) in the fourth Extras slot after unlocking the first three extras, you'll unlock a demo of Sarah's upcoming project "Mario Bros. Mayhem", a recreation of the GBA version of Mario Bros. which includes Kris and Susie alongside Mario and Luigi as playable characters.
  • Violence is the Only Option: Each of the sections have a Final Boss whose HP must be depleted. Whether you deal the final blow or not though is entirely up to you, though in Porky's case the outcome is basically identical. note
  • Villain World: The world of Underfell, where Asgore was a lot more "proactive" when it came to anti-human propaganda. Ultimately subverted on the pacifist playthrough, where for the most part the monsters are largely putting on a mask to deal with how bad life in the underground has gotten. The only one who truly believes in the kill or be killed mindset (at least, who also appears in the chapter proper) is this world's version of Sans.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Flowey replaces Toriel as the "section boss". He's not nearly as difficult as his "Photoshop Flowey" form from the original game, but still difficult enough that you'd probably be dying more often without Susie on your side. He also forces you to deplete his HP before becoming spareable, and this is only the first boss.
  • Weak to Magic: Thanks to having Susie on your side, it's possible to kill Napstablook with her Rude Buster. Susie is mortified if you make her do this. Later, when you fight Flowey, he mentions this, knowing that's the only way you were able to kill Napstablook.
  • We Buy Anything: Averted with Sans. He suggests that Papyrus may be willing to buy stuff from you if you get back to the Underground. Knowing what the next section will be, Sans won't recognize the Underground he'll be going to. After finishing the Underfell portion and briefly returning to the regular UT world in Snowdin, Sans will be running the shop, where it's Played Straight, in that he'll buy three things off of you, and no more. Also averted in the fact that if you try to sell the Snow Ring, he'll request that you keep it just in case. If you try to sell any of the items Papyrus gives you, he'll half-mock you for doing so. If you try to sell Paula's Pan in the Obliteration Route, he'll turn his eyesockets black and state that he's "Not taking this shit.", seemingly making the player aware that he knows you're on a Genocide route.
  • Welcome to Corneria: In Section 3, it is the mysterious bird-like Gaster Follower that gives you one of the Eggs. Upon being spoken to, he repeatedly spouts the same lines about books with his dialogue being cut off at the end. Talk to him enough times and he snaps, saying you must've been trying to get him to slip up and that "he" will punish him for saying too much. Then Dr. Gaster makes him vanish.
  • Welcomed to the Masquerade: A pivotal scene for Section 3 involves Kris breaking down after a harrowing nightmare and deciding to have a heart-to-heart with Susie and Noelle — and you're not allowed to be there for it, as Kris removes their SOUL for the scene. When they return, the context is clear: Kris has told them about how their SOUL is controlled by someone else (you!), and in the Obliteration route has outright asked them to destroy it if the player does something unforgivable.
  • Wham Shot:
    • Kris, Susie, and Noelle find a mysterious grey door in Snowdin and fall into a world similar to the Dark World. Looks like this game isn't merely about "what if Kris and Susie landed in Undertale"...
    • Killing Napstablook with Susie's Rude Buster may also qualify. Since you have access to magical attacks, the only thing stopping you from killing any monster you fight is Kris themself.
    • Bragging about about the monsters they've killed to Toriel on an Obliteration run causes Kris to tear the SOUL out of their body and destroy it, as the possibility of putting Toriel in danger, even though it's not the same Toriel Kris knows, causes them to turn on you. This implies that Kris will prevent you from killing monsters if they genuinely care about their Deltarune counterpart.
    • After you've killed enough monsters in Section 2, you become strong enough to "draw blood". This means that enemies made of flesh will now bleed upon being defeated, as demonstrated with the Coil Snake. After killing Coil Snake, Susie will get uncharacteristically pissed off at Kris and only drops them when Noelle explains that they might not be themself. The same thing happens with the first Blue Cultist except this time, the donations collector will "reward" Kris by giving them a concussion, sending them to the hospital and lowering their stats.
    • While resting at QC's house in Section 3, just after Kris removes the SOUL so they can talk to the others without you hearing, they shake their head a bit, causing one of their eyes to be revealed.
    • When the group go through the gray door at the end of the main part of Section 3, they hear some voices. When Kris opens their eyes, they see none other than the UT counterparts of Dess and Noelle, the latter much younger and named Noel.
  • What the Hell, Hero?:
    • You can order Susie to dust every minor enemy and she won't react, but she gets disturbed to be made to kill Napstablook with a Rude Buster. On Kris' part, the one line they absolutely won't cross is provoking Toriel into a fight. Should the player try to brag about killing everyone to her, Kris will rip the SOUL off and destroy it.
    • On a more humorous note, Susie will get mad at you for only taking one monster candy. Trying to take more at this point will cause Kris to feel bad and refuse to take more.
    • On a much lighter note than any of the below, Sans will call you out if you try to sell him Papyrus' Charm in the Section 3 intermission.
    • It gets much worse in Section 2. When you become strong enough to make enemies bleed, you do exactly that to the Coil Snake upon attacking it. Susie will grab Kris by the neck and screams that they do not need to be that violent. She only drops Kris because Noelle mentions that Kris has been acting strangely in the past few days. If you go for killing the Blue Cultist next, Susie will simply say she should've seen that coming as she gives Kris a Death Glare.
    • After killing the Coil Snake, meeting back with Sans has him wonder, with his usual Death Glare, just what was all that yelling all about. He then dismisses the thought, passively-aggressively hoping that Kris is happy with what they're doing.
    • Noelle and Susie will call you out if you kill Doggo after gaining his trust. Depending on whether or not you've crossed a certain point in the Obliteration Route, Susie will add that she hopes you aren't slipping back to your murderous ways.
    • If the Obliteration route goes on long enough, then regardless of who was spared, Susie will ask Kris why do this in the first place. Three of the four options will have Susie call Kris out on it in a few different ways.
    • At certain points on an Obliteration route, Susie will comment on Kris's actions with a disappointed, "Of course you did that".
    • Betrayal killing Lesser Dog on a Neutral route has Susie call Kris out before being reminded of what's going on.
    • Betrayal killing Greater Dog on Obliteration will have QC and Susie both call Kris out, though QC is much more understanding regardless.
    • Even after Susie and Noelle repeatedly try to keep you from killing Lesser Dog, they will eventually give up in big frustration if you repeatedly try to go back to Lesser Dog's station. Actually killing Lesser Dog leads to Susie starting a battle with Kris.
    • If you take the option to attack Susie after the Lesser Dog battle, she asks Kris what the hell their problem is. If you pick "Shut Up", this leads to:
  • What the Hell, Player?: Susie asking why you attacked her and if you really wanted her dead that badly. Admit to doing it just to see what would happen, and this pisses her off even more. First she calls you out for potentially wanting Kris and Noelle dead, then says you didn't need to do this. And then she declares she "won't take your shit from now on" and gains the "Devious" status, meaning that at random times in battle, she'll still do what you tell her to do... except in a way that benefits the opponent, whether that means attacking herself or the party, or healing the enemy.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Upon finding out that Porky was one of the two people who beat up Paula and locked her up, Susie screams at the top of her lungs that she'll kick his ass and chases him away, leaving Kris, Noelle, and Paula to fight the Blue Cultists. Though if any kid deserves to get beaten up by Susie, it's Porky...
    • Ness and Paula end up in the receiving end of this trope at the end of Section 2's Obliteration Route.
    • Underfell Sans gleefully reveals that he killed Susie's counterpart, an orphan girl named Suzy.
  • Wrong Genre Savvy:
    • When Flowey forces Kris and Susie into using Undertale's battle system, he puts Susie on his side, insisting that the human has to fight the monsters. Susie refuses to bend to such rules and forcefully merges Undertale's combat system with Deltarune's, adding her HP bar next to Kris' as well as a half-filled TP bar, and hits Flowey with Rude Buster.
    • If you destroy the Dummy, Susie will remark how creepy it is that it turned into dust.

Waldorf: That's the reason they made this fangame? Because everyone else was making a bunch of uninspired, humorless jokes?
Statler: Monkey see, monkey do!
Both: Do-ho-ho-ho-hoh!
