Trivia / The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl

Go To

  • Author's Saving Throw: by way of Worf Had the Flu; Uatu the Watcher is present in the panel where Squirrel Girl had defeated Thanos just to clarify that that Thanos isn't a "robot, clone, or simulacrum". Then in another series, Thanos mentions that he can create clones of himself that even the Watcher cannot tell aren't him. And then Word of God states that that Thanos really wasn't a clone. All these were written by Dan Slott, making him pingpong against himself. It's not the first time he has gone back and forth like that. Just look at the whole She-Hulk/Juggernaut thing. Marvel as a whole basically finally resolved it with, "Yes, she beat Thanos singlehanded!"
  • Referenced by...: In PreCure in a Nutshell, Cure Custard, who has a squirrel theme, gets the parody name of Cure Squirrel Girl.
  • Sequel in Another Medium: North wrote a limited podcast series, Squirrel Girl: The Unbeatable Radio Show, that directly picks up where the series left off in 2022.
  • Urban Legend of Zelda: Many fans have been wishing for Doreen to be named as a playable character in Marvel vs. Capcom 3. In response, this doctored screencap began to float around. The creators openly decided not to include her because they liked the joke of Squirrel Girl and thought her inclusion—which would mean a balanced play style and a potential tier ranking—might ruin the joke.note
    • Though she might have had a better shot of making it in that this would suggest, so long as you believe MvC3 producer Ryota Niitsuma. Niitsuma used Twitter to share the rationale for including or excluding certain characters from the game, and said this when he brought up Rocket Racoon:
We were actually considering Squirrel Girl at the time, but when he was brought up it turned out we had way more raccoon fans than squirrel fans at the office, so we went with him.
  • What Could Have Been: She almost made the leap the to the Marvel Cinematic Universe via TV series, New Warriors, which would've been a more comedic entry in the TV side of the universe and had her leading the team. While a pilot was made and shopped around, the initial network that took it, Freeform, ultimately passed on it due to budgetary issues. The show ended up lingering in Development Hell for awhile with no news, until it was ultimately revealed it was quietly put into indefinite hiatus and seemingly cancelled. The only remnant of this was the casting of Milana Vayntrub to play her being retained for Marvel Rising.
  • Word of God: Ryan North used the letters column of #2 to explain away her being upset with Wolverine over an implied fling during her run in New Avengers was her just being upset over him stealing a cab.
    • As of early 2017, Koi Boi's trans identity is 90% Word of God. What prompted artist Erica Henderson to confirm it was an eagle-eyed reader spotting (two months after the issue was published) that Ken wore a binder under his street clothes. Ms. Henderson confirmed that Ken had been planned as trans from day one and that the creators weren't interested in doing a Very Special Episode regarding Ken's gender identity.
