Trivia / Blue's Clues & You!

Go To

  • Accidentally-Correct Writing: Miss Marigold here is a pink hippo, who is little smaller than Josh (whose actor is 5’10'') while in the original series she was almost Joe's height (who is 6 feet tall); In real life the smallest and most peaceful hippopotamus in the world is the pygmy hippopotamus, which grows to between 4.92–5.74 ft when they reach maturity.
  • Actor-Inspired Element: A detail from "Blue Dino Clues" implies that like his actor, Josh is vegan; he is classified as a herbivorous "dinosaur" as he eats only leaves.
  • Adored by the Network: Reaching original series levels, with a Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade float, and being renewed for a third season before the first finished, just three months after it was renewed for the second.
  • Approval of God: Steve Burns had a hand in the audition process for the reboot's new host.
Steve: I had the great honor of being a part of the search for the new host, and I give Josh two thumbs up! He can definitely fill my shoes, and the rugby shirt.
  • Children Voicing Children: Blue's stuffed puppy Polka Dots was voiced by a kid (Gagen Graham-Arbuthnot) instead of an adult in this reboot series.
  • Content Leak:
    • A picture of Sage and Ginger was uploaded to a Blue's Clues wiki from an unknown source before the characters were even hinted at.
    • A user on Instagram named "thealexisjoy" posted a picture containing a then-unreleased promo image of Magenta wearing glasses, which was well before the announcement of "Getting Glasses with Magenta".
    • A listing for a Periwinkle plushie showed up on Just Play's website, confirming he'd be coming to the series before the premiere of the episode in which he appeared, "Our New Neighbor."
  • Cowboy BeBop at His Computer: Ads for Paramount+ sometimes advertise this show as being on the service when only the original Blue's Clues series is on there. The first season wouldn't be added until September of 2021, alongside the rest of the original, to coincide with the series's 25th anniversary.
  • The Danza: In addition to Steve Burns returning as Steve, Joshua Dela Cruz is Josh.
  • Distanced from Current Events: The episode "Getting Healthy With Blue" was pulled from rotation during the COVID-19 Pandemic due to the plot involving Josh getting sick. It found its way onto the DVD release "Caring With Blue", however.
  • Disabled Character, Disabled Actor: Camila, the current neighborhood librarian, is deaf and is played by Gaitrie Persaud Dhunmoon, who is a deaf woman.
  • Dueling Shows: The reboot competes with another show on Nick Jr. with a similar concept: Ryan's Mystery Playdate, which also has the lead solve mysteries by using three given clues.
  • Early-Bird Release: Vudu released the first three episodes early on September 27, 2019. The second episode was released on the Nick Jr. website and YouTube on October 28, 2019.
  • He Also Did:
    • The voice actors for Paprika and Cinnamon are the same voices for Corn & Peg.
    • Shovel and Slippery's voice actors are also the voices of Bo and Teeny Terry.
    • Magenta's vocal effects were performed by Diane Salema, who was also one of the Lite Sprites.
    • John Wozniak, the lyricist for the new songs on the show is also the lead singer of the Alternative Rock band Marcy Playground.
    • Tickey Tock's voice actress, Ava Augustin, was a co-host for Kids' CBC.
  • Inconsistent Dub:
    • The mere existence of the European Portuguese dub, as the original show in Portugal was re-filmed with a new host, Duarte, instead of Steve (or Joe), resulting in some confusion. The same could, however, be said about most of the dubbed versions of this show, for half of them didn't even have the original show dubbed, and half didn't dub the Joe seasons.
    • For dubs that do exist of both the original and the reboot, most of them changed the lyrics to most of the songs so that they could flow better.
  • Marth Debuted in "Smash Bros.": Due to the circumstances listed under Inconsistent Dub, the previous hosts of the show, Steve and Joe, made their first appearance in some countries in this show.
  • The Merch: The show's book line began in July 2020 with the titles World of Colors! and Count with Blue!. Nick Jr. is also offering a sweepstakes to win a plush toy, handy-dandy notebook and crayon, wearable ears, activity poster, and blanket based on the program. It's not clear though if any of these items have actually been made available for purchase yet, however, or if they're contest exclusives. Most of the merchandise is Wal-Mart exclusive, though, in the later months, it reached other retailers. However, Wal-Mart continues to release new timed exclusives. Some merchandise releases are also Target exclusives, while others are Amazon exclusives.
  • Only So Many Canadian Actors: Some of the voice artists appeared on other Nick Jr. shows produced in Canada, among them Abby Hatcher, Top Wing, Rusty Rivets and Corn & Peg. Perhaps most notably, Tickety Tock's voice actress was once a child co-host on Kids' CBC, the Canadian equivalent to Sprout.
  • Playing Against Type: The cheerful Josh is played by Joshua Dela Cruz, whose TV roles before that were the cynical but nice Adam Bunson from Bull and a nameless attendant in Time After Time, both Victim of the Week from their respective series. Which he jokes about at his Steel City Con panel by saying that maybe he's just good at dying.
  • Preview Piggybacking: The premiere of SpongeBob's Big Birthday Blowout featured an exclusive teaser where Josh sings "We Are Looking For Blue's Clues'' and talks to the viewer.
  • Real Life Writes the Plot: Steve wears a fedora because Steve Burns refused to appear on the show bald, especially in front of those who grew up watching him on the original show. In "Blue's Night Before Christmas", he continues doing this by wearing a green Santa hat.
  • Real-Life Relative: Paulo and Linda, Josh's Filipino cousins, are played by Genny and Jason Sermonia who are siblings in real life.
  • Role Reprise:
    • Series co-creator Traci Paige Johnson returns as Blue.
    • Steve Burns as Steve and Donovan Patton as Joe, the previous hosts of Blue's Clues, in various episodes.
  • Screwed by the Network: Despite being successful, the show got pulled from Paramount+ for unexplained reasons in March 2024, leaving Blue's Big City Adventure as the only piece of this era of Blue's Clues to stream on the service.
  • Technology Marches On:
    • In addition to still delivering physical letters to them, Mailbox can also send e-mails to Blue and Josh via Josh's phone.
    • The Handy Dandy Notebook now doubles as a smartphone (though the notebook part is still used, and Josh draws the clues live).
    • A push-button phone was almost always placed on top of Sidetable Drawer in the original. This was removed here. Though other objects are sometimes placed on top of her to fit the episode's theme.
  • The Other Darrin: The voice actors from the original series (with the exception of Blue) have been replaced with Canadian talents. The fact that the series is a Canadian co-production may have something to do with this.
    • By the second season, some of the child voice actors were replaced due to the cast gradually aging. They include:
      • Sidetable Drawer, who was originally voiced by Liyou Abere, was replaced by Shazdeh Kapadia.
      • Cinnamon, who was played by Jaiden Cannatelli, was replaced by Niko Ceci, the same actor who played Corn for the majority of Corn & Peg's second season.
      • Paprika, who was originally played by Shechinah Mpumlwana, was replaced by Abigail Nicholson.
    • The Latin American Spanish dub got a meta-change, as the dub went from Venezuela, when the previous shows were dubbed, to Chile.
  • What Could Have Been:
    • Kellen Goff auditioned for the role of the host before Joshua Dela Cruz was cast. According to a Twitch stream from 2020, Norman Caruso from The Gaming Historian also planned to audition but couldn't due to other issues.
    • The show runners gave Joshua Dela Cruz the option of having his character be named "Ben" in order to avoid the problems Steve had during his time on the original show, but he decided against it.
    • Concept art revealed that Super City was almost an 8-bit style world.
