"Nyaaaaaah!"
Several of the shorts entail the Stooges' contending with genuinely spooky dolls/statues/puppets/etc.

  • One infamous scene in Pardon My Scotch has Curly sawing Moe out of the locked door they carried upstairs. As Curly saws through, the saw is just inches away near Moe, sending him in shock. Video here.
  • In A Gem of a Jam, for example, Curly eye-pokes a truly creepy-looking clown bust, and Moe and Larry run away from a creepy Jack-in-the-box.
  • In If a Body Meets a Body, the Stooges are awoken in bed by a parrot which hides inside a human skull and flies around with its wings protruding through the ear holes, clutching a sheet with its claws and cackling maniacally. If you saw such a thing in a strange dark house in the middle of the night, added that a couple of murders have taken place within, you'd probably scream in horror, too.
    • And accidentally opening a secret door for a dead body to lean against you would make your hair stand on end, too!
    • ... not to mention FINDING not A corpse IN THE BED THAT YOU'VE JUST GOTTEN INTO... but one IN EACH BED?!
  • Some of the trio's deaths at the end of some shorts may or may not be this.
  • One scene in "I'll Never Heil Again" has the Stooges looking into their astronomy telescope and seeing a vision that the Axel partners are roasting them, literally, rotisserie-like and over a big open fire.
  • "Dopey Dicks" revolves around a mad scientist who plans to dissect the Stooges' brains and nearly succeeds at multiple points. Even the twist happy ending in which the Stooges and a girl are rescued by one of the scientist's headless robots can be creepy out of context. Of course, some people might interpret it as the robot returning them to his master...
  • "They Stooge To Conga" was the most violent short of The Three Stooges! The most infamous scene is when Curly tries to climb the telephone pole with climbing spikes while Moe and Larry helped him up. As he does so, Curly accidentally gets a spike in Moe's head, then he gets the spike in Moe's eye, and finally he gets the spike in Moe's ear! It's one of the most disturbing moment in The Three Stooges short! Most cringe-worthy indeed!
    • It says a lot that this moment was considered too much for TV syndication and even early video collections. This short was basically out of circulation until the age of DVD.
