• It's rather Black Comedy, but towards the beginning of the film, Max is sent to a vet behavioral therapist due his nervous scratching tic from being overprotective of Katie's young son, Liam. The various animals there start explaining to him why they're there, which is capped with a pair of cats who state in unison "We start fires" following by blinking in unison to show creepy slits in their eyes.
  • The hamster running on his wheel: "I run, and I run, and I run, and I run, and I get out... and I've gone nowhere. NOWHERE!"
  • The cat who claims that he's fine, but his master is crazy: "I mean, you know, I-I bring her a dead bird, SHE THROWS IT OUT! Heh, heh. I bring her a dead mouse, RIGHT IN THE GARBAGE! (jumps at his owner) IS NOTHING I DO GOOD ENOUGH FOR YOU, MOTHER?!?!" (The cat hisses and swipes at his owner)
  • "My owner always says 'You're such a good dog' and I feel like a good dog, but what if deep down I'm a bad dog? What if I'm a bad dog?!"
• The result of Max's visit to the vet behavioral therapist is that he's placed in a Cone of Shame, which he wears through a fair portion of the film.
  • As soon as he gets home, Max tries to get a ball from under the table, but the cone gets in the way.
• Max, while wearing his cone, tries to ask Chloe to take care of his Busy Bee toy while he's gone, but she's too busy playing with a doorstop to listen.
  Chloe: (after Max leaves) What's that stupid thing on your head?
• Chloe High on Catnip with a lampshade on her head.
• Max tries to explain the reasoning why he's wearing the cone to Rooster, who is rather less than impressed. He bites the cone, yanks it off of Max and so grouchily declares:
  Rooster: There. You're cured. Hallelujah.
• When Duke asks a cow to moo, she mocks him by imitating a dog:
  Cow: "Woof, woof!"
  Duke: "What?"
  Cow: "Oh, I'm a dog. I'm wagging my tail like an idiot!" (wags her tail, sticks out her tongue, and pants like a dog)
  Duke: "Oh. OK, dude. Not cool."
  Cow: "Oh, are you going to throw a ball? Oh, please throw a ball, and I will chase it because my brain is the size of a rat turd!"
  Duke: [chuckles uncomfortably] "Oh, OK, yeah, I get it. You made your point."
  Cow: "Oh, look, I’m peeing on a tree. I now own this tree."
  Duke: "OK, yeah, great. Leaving now!"
  Cow: "I guess I’ll just stare at the door until you come back!"
  • Given this gag was written by Matthew Inman, it's to be expected.
• Chloe training Gidget to be a cat.
  • When Gidget refuses to use the litter box, Mel comes out of the box eating "treats".
  • Chloe orders Gidget to eat Sweet Pea. She confides to Buddy that she's just messing with Gidget, but then Gidget puts Sweet Pea in her mouth.
• Rooster and Max have to save a lamb stranded on a limb over a cliff... who acts as if it wasn't a big deal.
• When Max, Duke and their owners leave the farm, Rooster starts to get emotional, proving that he's not as stoic as you'd think. The turkey annoys him and ruins his moment, and he shrugs it off and acts like nothing happened.
  Duke: Bye Rooster!
  Max: And thank you!
  Rooster: (grunting) Bye...
  Turkey: (gobbles and looks at Rooster)
  Rooster: Mind your business turkey I'm um...I'm having a moment...
  Turkey: (continues to stares and gobble at Rooster)
  Rooster: Okay, moment's over. (lays down on tractor)
  Turkey: (gobbles as if it were saying "moment's over")
• There are some moments where Liam acts like a dog. At one point, he is about to mark a tree with Duke and Max, but Katie stops him.
• When Sergei was about to kill Max, Hu, Snowball and Daisy in the climax, the crazy cat lady, Gidget and the other pets run Sergei over with the former’s car, knocking him out. When Max, Hu, Snowball and Daisy board the car, the crazy cat lady backs up her vehicle when Sergei was getting back up, unawarely hitting him and knocking him down again. He also gets his face covered in dirt when the car skidded before it departed.
