YMMV / The Secret Life of Pets 2

Go To

  • Adorkable: Max’s adorkability shines even brighter with his new voice, nervous tics, and caring for his master’s young son.
  • Critical Dissonance: The film has a 60% (barely fresh) from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but audiences gave the film largely positive reviews, scoring a 92% from them on the site. It’s worth noting that both scores went the opposite way from the first film.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Rooster doesn't have many lines, but is very popular. His actor helps.
    • The cow that makes fun of Duke is memorable.
  • Moment of Awesome:
    • Snowball's fight with Little Sergei.
    • Max being chased by Sergei's wolves atop the circus train, eventually knocking them all off. Then, after getting knocked off himself by Little Sergei, he gets ahead of the train's route and jumps on it, bursting through the conductor's cabin's window to attack Sergei himself, with Snowball and Hu helping.
    • The Crazy Cat Lady, her cats, and Gidget's wild ride to the rescue.
  • Surprisingly Improved Sequel: While the first movie was still good and watchable, some criticized it for allegedly wanting to be Toy Story and certain implausibilities that ultimately rendered it average. This movie is marginally more original and serious and balances out its elements better, and has a higher audience approval score on Rotten Tomatoes than its predecessor, despite its lower critic score.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character: The Flushed Pets do not appear in the sequel, leaving many to wonder what exactly became of them after Snowball was adopted by Molly. Tiberius is also absent with no explanation.
