Fridge Brilliance
- The Star Ocean series suffers from an absolutely awful case of Human Aliens - to the extent that many species of alien are still called "human," and the rest are almost uniformly Rubber-Forehead Aliens and BeastMen - but the third game's Ass Pull could justify this: making all the races quite humanoid - or 4D-being-oid - makes them more identifiable for the Eternal Sphere's players, or possibly just saves work for the people who make character models.
- Star Ocean: The Second Story also had that little subplot about Claude being the legendary hero with a "Sword of Light" right at the beginning. It only happened right at the start of the game and then it was pretty much forgotten completely, and I got the sense that Claude was just The Unchosen One. Then I picked up the Eternal Sphere. Which is a magical Laser Blade. And you will most likely be killing the Big Bad with it and saving Expel (assuming you get it).
- I had one for the third game, regarding Fayt. Maybe it's just me, but Air Raid and Dimension Door, two of his most useful and powerful attacks, greatly resemble attacks the Executioners use. This is due to his Destruction Gene.
