The fact that the names are so awesome can be chalked up to the fact that it's an RPG. Think about some of the names you give your RPG characters.
The infamous plot twist neatly explains the frequency of human aliens in the setting. The designers of the Eternal Sphere would want their players to be able to relate to and connect with their characters. For most players, that means a character that looks mostly human.

Nel is nearly raped twice while infiltrating the Kirlsa Training Facility, in the manga adaptation.note She escapes the first attempt on her own by slitting her would-be assailant's throat, only to get cornered by a group of Shelby's men moments later and would've been gang raped if not for Fayt and Cliff's timely arrival. This differs from the game, in which she successfully infiltrates the facility on her own and only needs help getting past the Black Brigade soldiers guarding the elevator.
