The Reactsverse is an expanding series of Crack Fic created by ElfCollaborator and subsequently expanded upon by other authors.
The premise: The main three fics feature one of the main characters of the verse reacting to various things, most prominently Fanfiction. From there, it usually descends into absolute chaos, usually involving antics and Shipping of many sorts. Most of the spinoffs work off the concept as well.
Other common elements include Slice of Life, Mega Crossover and sheer amounts of Lampshading and Breaking the Fourth Wall.
The Main Reactsverse
- Weiss Reacts: The first fic that began the Reactsverse, taking place in the world of RWBY and starring Weiss Schnee as the main protagonist. Currently on its second volume.
- It has a prequel, The Diary of Glynda Goodwitch, by Half-Blind Otaku, a fic focusing on the Reactsvese version of Glynda, who is a Tsundere. Specifically, the fanfic takes place during her childhood years at Signal and later Beacon.
- Lucina Reacts: The second fic, taking place after the events of Fire Emblem: Awakening and starring Lucina as the main protagonist.
- Both of the above fics now have a crossover, The Best Reactsverse Crossover, taking place between Weiss Reacts chapters 87-88 and Lucina Reacts chapters 52-53.
- Homura Reacts: The third fic, taking place after the events of Puella Magi Madoka Magica and starring Homura Akemi as the main protagonist.
- Corrin Reacts: The fourth fic, set in the world of Fire Emblem Fates, starring Corrin as the main protagonist.
- Star Reacts: The fifth Reactsverse fic, set in Star vs. the Forces of Evil, starring Star and Marco as the two protagonists.
Spinoffs
Spinoffs set in the Reactsverse proper:
- A Melodic Comedy, a fanfic featuring team MLDY, an average team of OCs attending Beacon around the same time as Weiss Reacts. Is currently a Dead Fic.
- Reactsverse Oneshots, a series of fanfics by the author featuring plots that he believes would not fit in the main fic:
- A Blackbird In Flight, a fic focusing on Cardin's Heel–Face Turn and him falling in love with Melanie.
- The Nanako Incident, a fic focusing on the titular Nanako Dojima getting lost in Vale and finding the RWBY cast after the events of chapter 72.
- Homecoming, a fic focusing on the staff of Beacon having a perfectly normal dinner.
- The Xiao Long Incident, a fic focusing on Yang releasing pheromone Dust into the air, prior to the events of chapter 69.
- Weiss' Sweet Dream, a fic based on Viral's Sweet Dream about Weiss having an unusual dream.
- Life is What Happens to You by Resisting the Borg, a story focusing on the antics of Adam Taurus and the Reactsverse versions of Milly Ashford, one of the Misaka clones and Lancer travelling around the world together. Hilarity Ensues.
- Eurydice. A Fix Fic set in Your Lie in April detailing Kaori being resurrected from the dead and being given a day to settle Unfinished Business. Aside from the supernatural elements and Word of God placing it squarely in The Multiverse, most of the usual Reactsverse elements are absent here.
Other:
- Velvet's Obsession, by merikflame, a fic focusing on the Reactsverse version of Velvet, who is a Yandere Stalker with a Crush for Weiss. Not directly set in the Reactsverse but most of the elements are exactly the same.
- The Antic Order by The Zombineer, a Spin-Off focusing on the titular Antic Order. Not directly set in the Reactsverse, but many nods and references are made to it.
- Vivi's Adorable Misadventure by The Layman, where Vivi from Weiss Reacts appears in RWBY canon. Hilarity Ensues, as always.
To keep this page clean, all tropes pertaining to a fic with a works page must go on that work page.
Warning for unmarked spoilers.
The Reactsverse provides examples of:
Tropes applying to all Reactsverse stories
- Alternate Universe: All of these to the canon material.
- To be precise, there are actually two alternate universes at play:
- The Modern Verse, where Weiss Reacts and Homura Reacts take place, also containing various others like Persona, AKB0048, Toradora! and others. This world also contains most of the spinoffs.
- The Ylissean Verse, where Lucina Reacts takes place, containing The Elder Scrolls, League of Legends and The Legend of Zelda.
- Of late, though, the stories seem to have abandoned this structure in favour of making all the stories be set in their own world instead, though a Shout-Out in Eurydice confirms its placement in the world of Star Reacts.
- Ancient Conspiracy: The Antic Order, a common element throughout all of the Reactsverse. Except Eurydice. It is also downplayed in Corrin Reacts; they are only namedropped in the second chapter and play no role in the plot afterwards.
- Breaking the Fourth Wall: Each and every fic has this, although the main three and Diary of Glynda Goodwitch are the ones with the most instances. Again, except Eurydice.
- Brown Note: Kotomi's violin, for a comedic version.
- For a less comedic version, the name of the kingdom of Touma, which nearly kills Professor Faust and Miriel when they attempt to record its name for future reference.
- Crack Fic: An entire series of them.
- Crossover: Not just with series, but with other fanfics. At least one or two Reacts cast members have shown up in other fanfic worlds.
- Even Eurydice is confirmed to be set in the same world as Star vs. the Forces of Evil and Your Name through a couple of Shout Outs.
- Deconstructive Parody: Pretty much all the fics are part this, part regular comedy.
- Door Stopper: Volume 1 of Weiss Reacts alone is almost as large as A Game of Thrones. Volume 2 is almost that size, and that's not even going into the rest of the materials. He has also acknowledged plans for a Volume 3!
- Formula-Breaking Episode: Lucina Reacts takes place a whole universe away from the vast majority of the Reactsverse.
- Lighter and Softer: Than their source material. It's been explicitly stated multiple times by the author that he loathes Angst and would prefer not to use it unless absolutely necessary, and the Reactsverse is part of his answer to angsty fics. Even his serious fics tend to have Earn Your Happy Ending over Bittersweet Ending.
- The Man Behind the Man: Yang, Ren, the Justice Cabal and Reflet are all merely pawns of Zelretch as members of the Antic Order.
- Massive Multiplayer Crossover: The main three fics are set in RWBY, Fire Emblem and Puella Magi Madoka Magica, and the huge supporting cast draws from everywhere, including Persona, Valkyria Chronicles, Code Geass and others.
- The Multiverse: Revealed in Lucina Reacts, although it was already implicitly hinted much earlier.
- The 'Verse: Every single fic takes place in the same continuity, connected by similar plot elements and characters, bar Hajime Reacts. which is explicitly a Continuity Reboot.
- Reflet, the Breakout Character of Lucina Reacts, has appeared in every fic bar Eurydice (a Genre Shift), the aforementioned Hajime Reacts and either iteration of Homura Reacts.
- A lesser version appears in Star Reacts, as Eurydice (and thus Your Lie in April) is revealed to be in the same world as Star vs. the Forces of Evil within this fic's continuity, with the events of Your Name also being referenced.
- Slice of Life: The main genre and point of these fics.
- Stylistic Suck: The title of The Best Reactsverse Crossover, as part of the author's usual Self-Deprecation.
- Who Would Want to Watch Us?: The main question asked by the protagonists. Much to their despair, the answer is everyone.
- World of Badass: Definitely one. Even the likes of Tohru Honda manage at least to be a Badass Normal.
- World of Ham: 3/4ths of the cast are Large Hams, with the others either described below or Straight Man.
- World of Snark: Most of the characters are also Deadpan Snarkers.
Tropes that apply to Eurydice
Warning: Unmarked spoilers. Tropes that apply to Eurydice
- Animal Motifs: Sparrows and Kaori by contrast to canon; almost every outdoor scene involving her includes at least one sparrow.
- It's revealed that the sparrows have nothing to do with Kaori herself, but Death, who turns out to have been watching them the whole day as a sparrow.
- The Atoner: Both Kaori and Kousei become this as a result of the mutual What the Hell, Hero? they receive from each other.
- Babies Ever After: In the Distant Finale, Kaori and Kousei are expecting a child. Said child (a daughter) ends up hearing the events of Eurydice from her parents, but understandably doesn't believe her mother really did die.
- Back from the Dead: Kaori gets resurrected from the dead to finish Unfinished Business.
- Book Ends: Kaori invokes this when she chooses to dress in the exact same dress she first met Kousei in.
- Also, the story itself takes place on the first day of April, the same month Kaori first met Kousei.
- The final chapter ends on the same day the first one begins, ending on Kousei's speech to Kaori's grave.
- Cruel Mercy: The gray-eyed man remarks that letting Kaori live, should she have failed in finishing her Unfinished Business, would have been this and a worse punishment than killing her.
- Deconstruction: The story is this in regards to Kaori's lie and Kousei's Heroic BSoD, which are both addressed as major character flaws for both characters; Kaori lying about something as important as she did makes her difficult to trust and Kousei's cowardice causes Kaori to be afraid of Dying Alone. Unlike the rest of the Reactsverse, this is not Played for Laughs.
- Decon-Recon Switch: The story also points out that, for all their flaws, they are fundamentally good people whose errors were well-intentioned. This realisation is what sparks their attempt to become The Atoner to each other and fight for their relationship.
- Distant Finale: The epilogue of the story is set ten years later.
- Exact Words: The gray-eyed man uses them in a rare positive example:
- He never said he was going to return Kaori to the afterlife after her day was up, pointing out that Kaori had been the one to convince herself of how long she had left.
- He said he was the ferryman of the dead, as in the man who ferries the souls of the dead. Kaori, by virtue of having returned Back from the Dead, is currently not dead and therefore not his concern.
- Extremely Short Timespan: The whole story takes place over the course of two days, and each chapter is only separated by a matter of minutes or hours, with the exception of the Distant Finale and the finale chapter, which take place ten years later and the day prior respectively.
- The Final Temptation: The idea of simply abandoning their relationship is posed as this to Kaori and Kousei after their argument, pointing out it would simply be less painful to abandon the other for being imperfect. Neither of them take that option, choosing instead to continue fighting for their relationship.
- Fix Fic: The author explicitly labels the story one for Your Lie in April. Specifically, amending Kaori's death at the end of the series.
- Foreshadowing: A lot of it during the first chapter:
- The gray-eyed man's use of Loophole Abuse to justify letting Kaori return from the dead hints at him using it again to let her stay in the world of the living.
- The gray-eyed man also remains noticeably silent when Kaori sets herself a time limit of one day. Sure enough, he uses Exact Words to point out that it was her who had set it, not him, therefore absolving him of being bound by it.
- Nerima is mentioned repeatedly to be very dangerous at night, and sure enough Kaori almost drowns after being pushed off the Courage Bridge by a mugger.
- Formula-Breaking Episode: Eurydice shares no elements with the rest of the Reactsverse and its placement is unconfirmed, with the only non-canon element of the fic being the land of the dead and the ferryman who resurrects Kaori.
- Genre Shift: For the Reactsverse as whole; Eurydice is a dramatic fic compared to the parodies and comedy that dominate the rest of The 'Verse. It does have some comedic moments typical of the authors' style, but on the whole it is far more dramatic.
- Happily Married: Kaori and Kousei end up as this during the Distant Finale.
- Heroic BSoD: Kaori suffers a minor one upon realising how little time she has to settle everything, and then her parents have one in turn once they realise they will lose their beloved daughter for the second time, this time forever.
- Both she and Kousei suffer one after having a massive argument in the third chapter, Kaori so much so she runs away, horrified.
- How Is That Even Possible?: Kaori's parents, Kousei and Tsubaki all have this reaction when faced with a resurrected Kaori. Her parents and Kousei even almost say the trope name verbatim.
- Late-Arrival Spoiler: The fic opens with Kousei visiting Kaori's grave and proceeds with the assumption that the reader has seen the ending of the series.
- Living on Borrowed Time: Kaori, again, which forms the main premise of the story. She gets a single day to finish up what she hasn't dealt with in life....that is, until the end, when it's revealed that this is not the case.
- Loophole Abuse: The gray-eyed man performs this. He can't directly send Kaori back to life, but he can almost certainly turn a blind eye and let her walk out of the afterlife for a day.
- He performs this to let Kaori stay in the world of the living, pointing out that, as the ferryman of the dead, he only ferries the dead, and Kaori, being alive (albeit having come Back from the Dead), is not his problem.
- My God, What Have I Done?: During and after their argument, Kaori and Kousei experience this upon realising just how their actions affected the other.
- Naked People Are Funny: A few times with Kaori, who ends up naked at least twice; once in the afterlife and once after resurrecting.
- Oddball in the Series: This fic, again. It is the only fic with no clear links to the rest of the Reactsverse aside from Word of God, none of its usual elements, and is a completely different genre to the others. It is also the only one without Idiosyncratic Episode Naming, aside from The Best Reactsverse Crossover.
- Shout-Out: A few times, though not as prevalent as with the rest of the Reactsverse.
- The gray-eyed man quotes Peanuts in a Call-Back to the series.
- Kousei's dialogue at the beginning are almost a direct quote of Watson's own speech at Sherlock's grave in Sherlock.
- Kousei apparently reads up on events in Echo Creek. This also serves as to place the story somewhere else in the Reactsverse canon.
- The gray-eyed man quotes Death when he remarks that the best present he could give Kaori is a future.
- In the Distant Finale, Kousei gets approached by an unnamed couple who want him and Kaori to perform at an event commemorating the miraculous survival of all the residents of a village called Itomori.
- Tempting Fate: Kousei muses that he wouldn't know what to say if Kaori were to show up on his doorstep the next day, alive. Sure enough, the next chapter ends with Kaori showing up on his doorstep, alive and him being utterly speechless.
- Title Drop: Kaori is referred to as Kousei's "Eurydice" in the final chapter, when the gray-eyed man compares him to Orpheus. Unlike their counterparts, however, they actually get their Happy Ending.
- Twist Ending: Death never planned on returning Kaori to the afterlife; whether or not she had failed to reconcile with Kousei, she would have remained alive for however long that was.
- The fifth chapter has one of its own; Kousei and Death have met before, and it had something to do with Kaori's resurrection.
- Wham Shot: The gray-eyed man addressing Kousei with familiarity, revealing that he and Kousei know each other and also confirming that the latter had something to do with Kaori's return.
- What the Hell, Hero?: Both Kousei and Kaori call each other out over their actions in the series for her manipulations and his cowardice respectively.
