Fanfic / Corrin Reacts

Go To

Corrin Reacts by ElfCollaborator is a Fire Emblem Fates fanfiction set in his Reactsverse continuity. The fic focuses around Corrin and his friends and family reacting to various fanfictions, tropes and other things, all while focusing around playing with the usual Reactsverse tropes.

As always, Hilarity Ensues.

Part of the The Reactsverse.

This fic contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass / Adaptational Intelligence: Corrin, in the canon, is a naive, idealistic Sheltered Aristocrat. In the Reactsverse, he already starts the first chapter as a Genre Savvy individual who doesn't immediately glow into a Luminescent Blush at the customary Rule 34 fics, and then is revealed to be a Guile Hero and the Trickster Archetype of the fic.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Silas receives one, becoming more outgoing and energetic to compliment the calmer and level-headed Kaze as Corrin's retainers and members of the Antic Order.
  • All Love Is Unrequited: So far, Leo is explicitly shown to have feelings for Hinoka, and the whole reason Corrin starts the Antic Order chapter of his world is that Flora has feelings for Jakob and now Corrin.
  • Alternate Universe: Things specifically revealed to be different from the canon Fates universe: Scarlet and Izana survived Revelation, and Arete and Mikoto were not blood-related sisters (meaning Corrin and Azura are no longer cousins). Furthermore, Corrin and Flora have a far closer relationship than within canon, causing Flora to defect to Corrin's side instead of attacking him as she does when Garon threatens her people.
    • Kana and Janus are also confirmed to come from their own Alternate Universe, which is confirmed to be one of the Birthright route. Although Azura still dies as in canon, Elise and Flora survive their deaths on this route, the latter long enough to have Kana and Janus with Corrin.
  • Armor-Piercing Question: "…..what do you see in Jakob of all people?". This question directly leads Flora into a Love Epiphany.
  • Battle Butler: Jakob; he takes on a Parody Sue with just a knife and parries (admittedly knock-offs of) Siegfried and Raijinto with said knife.
  • Brick Joke: During the Matchmaking chapter, Corrin digs a pit to fill with fondue to trap Benny. In a later chapter, Setsuna falls into the pit. Despite the pit having already been filled in.
    • Kaze is mentioned to have a pile of love letters in front of his house that he and Felicia clean up to allow him to get inside. Later during the Festival two-parter, the pile seems to have been refilled again.
  • Call-Back: Flora's Power Incontinence, Kaze's status as a Clueless Chick-Magnet and Azura's Deadpan Snarker side are all mentioned and utilised in the story.
  • Cassandra Truth: Takumi is the only member of the Hoshidan court to realise that Corrin is a member of the Antic Order. He's right, of course.
  • Continuity Nod: A few to the Reactsverse and Fire Emblem as a whole:
  • Covert Pervert: Flora is revealed to be a fan of Ninjas of Love and other similar romance novels.
  • Deconstructor Fleet: Corrin Reacts is this to The Reactsverse, taking potshots at its usual tropes and pointing out why many of the usually employed tropes wouldn't really work.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: Flora and Corrin suffer from this during the Hot Springs chapters. It's actually a sign they're both breathing in aphrodisiacs.
  • For Want Of A Nail: One of the major reasons for the various changes to the Reactsverse version of events: Flora attempted to run away from the Northern Fortress and was rescued by Corrin when she fell into a canyon and then got caught in a blizzard, thus turning them into Fire-Forged Friends from the start instead of Flora being a False Friend to him. This is heavily implied to have changed the events of the war, as well as had a hand in helping save Scarlet's life.
  • Guile Hero: Corrin is this in contrast to other Reactsverse protagonists. It helps that he's a member of the Antic Order.
    • Flora is no slouch either, managing to fool Camilla into thinking that the prankster after Corrin had fled after freeing Corrin. Her sister Felicia is also no slouch, successfully lying to a crowd about being Kaze's girlfriend to get him to safety.
  • Irony: Ryoma assigns Kaze to track down the prankster responsible for trolling Xander with a tome full of indecent stories about the army. Kaze is actually working with the person who planted it in the first place, Corrin.
    • Similarly, Camilla kidnaps Corrin to protect him from the prankster. Corrin IS the prankster.
  • Lampshade Hanging: A lot of this goes on, simply put, as part of the fic's humor and Self-Deprecation.
    • Corrin lampshades that he hasn't seen Lilith in a while at the end of the twelfth chapter. Lilith doesn't actually appear at all until the twelfth chapter's Stinger.
  • Lighter and Softer: Than canon in general. Specific examples include how Rinkah and Kaze actually got captured by Garon and how Kaze and Felicia's first meeting went.
  • The Matchmaker: Corrin wants to act as this to Flora and Jakob, who he ships. He also decides to act as this to everyone and everybody in the army, starting with Benny and Beruka.
    • Janus, his son tries to play at being this for Flora and Corrin. Keyword being tries. And now Felicia and Elise are joining in on it.
  • Meet Cute: Felicia and Kaze have an exaggerated version of this, having a Meet Cute during a fight for both their lives.
  • Mood Whiplash: The majority of the first part of the Festival of Stars two-parter seem to be simply funny or fluffy interludes between various characters in the cast in the run-up to the eponymous festival. Then Corrin comes home to see a devastated Flora and finds out that her Love Confession to Jakob was rejected.
    • The Short Stories chapter. Flora and Corrin nearly dying in a blizzard and Ryoma all but confessing his love for a mortally-wounded Scarlet are followed by Kaze and Felicia prancing around during the Festival.
  • Mythology Gag: This isn't the first Fanfiction Tome we've seen in a Reactsverse fic.
  • Naked People Are Funny: A Running Gag involves various people ending up naked. It happens to Azura during the Daily Life chapter and Camilla during the Hot Springs chapters.
  • Noodle Incident: The Great Hoshidan Beach Party Incident and the Nohrian Underwear Affair. Both incidents are the catalysts for the Nohrian and Hoshidan courts to want to chase down the person responsible. Unbeknownst to them, the perpetrator is Corrin.
    • On a smaller scale, the prison incident that resulted from Niles accidentally jailing Corrin.
  • Not His Sled: After three years of Reactsverse fanfics, Corrin Reacts initially seems to start exactly the same as the first three fics of the Reactsverse. Then Corrin is revealed to be the story's primary prankster character. After the first chapter, however, the story breaks away from Reactsverse formula constantly.
  • Not So Stoic: Flora gets a lot of these moments; it helps that Corrin is actively seeking to see her like this.
    • Beruka gets one too. Specifically, after she and Benny have an Accidental Kiss.
  • Not Me This Time: Niles and Corrin all say some variation of this when they attempt to find the culprit who spiked the wine at the party with love potion. It was Orochi.
    • Similarly, Corrin gets accused of pranking himself by Orochi during the Valentines' Incident chapters, causing him to get soused with love potion. It was Janus.
  • Official Couple: As of chapter 6, Benny and Beruka have hooked up thanks to Corrin.
    • In the future where Kana and Janus come from, Flora and Corrin end up together.
  • Only Sane Man: Azura acts as this to Corrin's trickery. Takumi is this to the Hoshidans as the only person who realizes Corrin is an Antic Order prankster.
    • Kagerou is this to Takumi and Saizou, as the only one of the three who knows that Corrin is a prankster and also doesn't care.
  • Out-Gambitted: Saizou and Corrin pull this against each other in Chapter 23: Saizou replaced Jakob's diary with a blank which Corrin mistakenly takes, and Corrin in turn swaps the blank diary (without knowing it was blank) for a sketchbook full of drawings of Flora.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Azura and Corrin form a pair like this, and the Antic Order members form pairs like this as well.
  • Sadistic Choice: Garon tries this on Flora in the backstory, forcing her to choose between him and her people as he does in canon. Key word being tries.
  • Savvy Guy, Energetic Girl: Corrin and either Flora or Azura, in a genderflipped example. Azura is more sassy towards Corrin's mischief, while Flora is less snarky and more level-headed to match Corrin's goofiness and joking nature.
    • This is emphasised more during the Harems chapters when Flora and Corrin interact. Flora seems to be more introspective and quiet, while Corrin is flirtatious and energetic enough to catch her off-guard.
  • Self-Deprecation: Many jokes in the story involve the author poking fun of the usual tropes and cliches found in his other stories.
  • Set Right What Once Went Wrong: Kana and Janus had this aim when they left their original time to ensure Flora's survival.
  • Ship Tease: Corrin, with Azura and Flora. Flora with Jakob. Kaze with Felicia, although he's gotten some with Mozu.
    • Charlotte and Scarlet are teased with Xander and Ryoma, respectively, and Elise is teased with Odin. Of course, this is par for the course for the Reactsverse. And now, Leo and Hinoka, too.
    • The Corrin/Azura tease is amped up in Chapter 12, with the entire thing being dedicated to teasing a possible relationship between them. This now goes for Flora/Corrin now that the Festival two-parter has essentially had the two go on a date together.
  • Shipper on Deck: The Antic Order, as always. For specific examples, Corrin for Flora and Jakob and Camilla for Beruka and Benny. And later, Elise for Corrin and Flora.
  • Shout-Out: Several to Persona 4, in the nicknames that Silas and Elise give Corrin; 'Partner' and 'Big Bro' respectively, the same names Yosuke and Nanako respectively give the protagonist.
  • Shown Their Work: The story, atmosphere and general Festival of Stars is directly based on Tanabata, a Japanese festival. The author did his research and simulated various rituals and traditions of the festival just for two whole chapters of the story.
  • Sick Episode: The two chapters aptly called 'Sick Episodes'. Needless to say, it being a Reactsverse fic, Hilarity Ensues.
  • Snow Means Death: Flora and Corrin nearly die in a blizzard when Flora attempts to flee the Northern Fortress and Corrin tries to bring her home.
    • Snow Means Love: However, this blizzard marks the beginning of Flora and Corrin's friendship, as Flora ends up respecting Corrin as a result.
  • Spanner in the Works: Just because you plan everything perfectly doesn't mean there won't be another outcome that will derail it all, as Corrin finds out when Jakob, after all Corrin's work to get him to come with Flora to the Festival, rejects her.
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Scarlet is still alive in the Reactsverse, as she's mentioned teaching the military in Cheve. In the canon Revelation path the story is based on, Scarlet dies Taking the Bullet for the Avatar.
    • Izana is also revealed to be alive, as he's mentioned having stayed over at Fort Corrin at least once. In canon, he dies trying to make Takumi trust the Avatar. Not only that, but he's also been confirmed to be an Antic Order member. Moreover, both Izana and Scarlet make appearances.
  • Slapstick: Everyone is subject to pranks; Camilla and Hinoka get caught up in a Love Potion prank, and Kaze ends up getting knocked out escaping his Unwanted Harem.
  • Sleep Cute: Flora does this while watching the fireworks with Corrin, falling asleep on his shoulder.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: The story behind the Festival of Stars of the skilled weaver prince and the shepherdess. Considering that the festival is the equivalent of Tanabata, the existence of this story is Truth in Television, albeit with some different details.
  • Take That!: A minor one towards Leo's apparent feelings towards Camilla is present in the second half of the Harems chapter; Camilla ends up drugged by the Love Potion in the wine and mistakes Flora for Leo. Leo promptly expresses Squick at the idea of such a relationship with his sister.
  • Trickster Mentor: Azama styles himself as one. Specifically, he sets Kaze's fangirls on Kaze to teach the latter how to deal with them.
  • True Companions: Corrin's retainers form a group of these. This is the reason that, Flora and Jakob excepted because they're his targets, Corrin uses them to form the Antic Order in his world.
    • A lot of things make it clear, from Corrin helping out Flora, to Silas and Kaze volunteering to take care of an ill Corrin, that the True Companions have a really close bond between each other.
  • Unbroken Vigil: Ryoma does this during the story Vigil when Scarlet is recuperating from being assaulted by Gunter.
  • Unresolved Sexual Tension: Averted for Corrin and Azura, though they do flirt. Played straight for Flora and Jakob.
  • Yandere: Camilla, much to Selena's exasperation.
  • Wham Episode: The Valentine's Incident, Part 1. It reveals that Kana and Janus are originally from a Birthright timeline where Flora survived to fall in love and marry Corrin and that some unknown catastrophe befell their family, causing Kana and Janus to have to go back to fix it, with the cost being that Corrin and Flora didn't fall in love as early as they did and might not at all. Also, Elise is revealed to have known about the increasingly close bond between her brother and Flora for a long while, making her not as oblivious as she'd been set up to be.
  • Wham Line: In regards to the children. Specifically, Kana.
Corrin: "I doubt our Kana's my child anyway. As far as I know, I've never had children and she's far too old."
  • Wham Shot: A textual version: The aforementioned Kana showing up three chapters later and revealing herself to be the same Kana as Corrin's child.
