Fanfic / Kir-Ben 10: Poyo Force

Go To

Kir-Ben 10: Poyo Force is a crossover between Ben 10 and Kirby written by omnimegalander. Specifically, it serves as a Fusion Fic/Point of Divergence retelling of Ben 10: Alien Force and the general plot of Kirby: Right Back at Ya!.

Instead of Ship being found by Julie and Ben on their date that night, what if Kirby was the one who crashed into their date? As a result, Ben and his friends find themselves allying with Meta Knight and his students to stop not only the Highbreed, but the forces of Nightmare as well.

Can also be found on Archive of Our Own here.

Kir-Ben 10: Poyo Force provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Badass: Quite a few examples.
    • Ben still uses the Omnitrix like in canon, but here, he is also able to tap into his Anodite side as a flight or fight response.
    • In canon, Flamberge and Zan Partizanne were solely capable of manipulating fire and electricity, respectively. Here, however, they are capable of manipulating other elements: Flamberge can control earth while Zan Partizanne has power over wind.
    • Sword and Blade Knight were skilled fighters in their own right and trained by Meta Knight, but here, they can empower their swords with elements like in Kirby Star Allies to form them into elemental swords.
    • Of course, they don't really compare to Julie, who takes a massive level in badass here. In canon, she was an ordinary human, but owned Ship, allowing her to form Powered Armor in combat. Here, however, she is revealed to have a connection to the Jambastion religion as their high priestess, and thus has the ability to manipulate all elements used by the Three Mage Sisters: water, ice, fire, earth, electricity, and wind.
  • Adaptational Origin Connection: Several between elements of the two series.
    • Azmuth, when making Ascalon, based the design partially on Galaxia, as revealed by Nightmare.
    • Julie is revealed to be connected to the Jambastion religion somehow, being their high priestess.
    • Nightmare was also responsible for the Gourmands (Upchuck's race) needing to evacuate from Peptos III in an invasion attempt, sending them food laced with Pufferzine. Pufferzine was, indeed, meant for species with Hyperactive Metabolism like the aforementioned Gourmands and the Oryctini (Eatle's species).
    • Magolor and Marx held no association to each other, let alone to Nightmare, but here, they're rival servants of Nightmare.
  • Adaptational Relationship Overhaul:
    • In canon, Francisca and Flamberge have a relationship that borders on the two being Ambiguously Gay, being very fond of one another and Flamberge being furious in her first meeting with Kirby and company because they hurt Francisca. Here, however, they are much less friendly to one another, engaging in trash talk and infighting, much to Zan Partizanne's frustration.
    • Verdona takes far more interest in Ben than she did in canon due to him being revealed to have a Spark of his own (his was simply weaker compared to Gwen's, being described as an ember rather than a spark), and while Ben does take interest, he also ends up becoming more hostile due to Kevin pointing out that she hadn't spent much time with them, resulting in him erupting at her when unlocking his Anodite powers and laying out that she had neglected her family when they needed her, namely against Zombozo, Rojo, and the Yenaldooshi. Suffice to say, Verdona is regretful at how she neglected her family, apologizing to him and Gwen, but the two do make up.
  • Ascended Extra: Julie goes from Satellite Love Interest to a full-fledged member of Ben's team.
  • Badass Adorable: Just as always, Kirby. His presence induces Cuteness Proximity as seen by Julie in the beginning, but he will kick monsters much bigger than him to the curb if he must do so to protect his family.
  • Big Damn Heroes: How Meta Knight introduces himself to Ben and company, as he slices the head of Mega Titan before he gets the chance to attack them.
  • Call to Agriculture: Meta Knight admits to Verdona that occasionally, he wonders if he could have simply settled into the life of a humble farmer.
  • Cannibalism Superpower: As always, Kirby gains his transformations by swallowing objects and enemies. Thus far, Kirby's transformations include:
  • Canon Immigrant: Numerous characters from other Kirby games make their appearance here.
    • Magolor is shown to be Nightmare's first associate seen in the fanfic, directly being responsible for Kirby crash landing on Earth.
    • Queen Sectonia is said to be an ally of Nightmare who is currently trying to invade Planet Popstar, only to be met with resistance by King Dedede and his forces.
    • Hyness and the Three Mage Sisters also come into focus, with them planning to bring about Void Termina with Julie's help.
    • Marx also shows up as another minion of Nightmare.
  • Cumulonemesis: As always, Kracko, who becomes the first monster that the Highbreed witness.
  • Doing In the Wizard: Pufferzine's effects gain a more scientific explanation: it affects the victim's satiety and renders them unable to feel full by targeting the hypothalamus and adrenal glands, reduces the rate of fat burning, and releases large amounts of dopamine into the body to make their victims utterly addicted to Pufferzine-laced food.
  • Doting Grandparent: Verdona becomes a great-grandparent variant of this trope to Kirby, happily playing with Kirby by forming slides of mana and promising to bring him candy from other worlds when she returns.
  • Due to the Dead: Done by Meta Knight and his students in response to Grandpa Max's death.
  • Evil Chef: Monsieur Goan and Fryclops both appear in this fanfic, working to fatten up Kirby with Pufferzine-laced food, and both soon directly attack Kirby alongside Red Viper.
  • Happily Adopted: Kirby is this. Ben and Julie adore him, and he loves them as well.
  • Interspecies Adoption: Ben and Julie (both humans) take Kirby (Star Warrior) in as their son.
  • Ignored Epiphany: After being contacted by Nightmare, the Highbreed commander ponders over the struggles they have had conquering Earth. He recognizes that their difficulty invading Earth is not a good sign, as they also have to deal with planets that are far less hospitable like Khoros (a desert planet), Vulpin (a toxic waste dump), Pyros (a literal star), and Kinet (a world plagued with constant lightning storms). He also laments that humans are weaker, and they will have contend with the stronger inhabitants of the worlds they plan to invade (Pyronites, Tetramands, Galvans, and Galvanic Mechamorphs). However, this insight is soon undercut by his Fantastic Racism, planning on continuing their Suicidal Cosmic Temper Tantrum due to his belief that the Highbreed are superior.
  • I Want Grandkids: Well, more like great-grandkids, but Verdona does commend Ben taking in Kirby as a son, making her a great-grandmother.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Just like the anime, the first onscreen transformation of Kirby is Fire.
    • Julie's dislike of smoothies was mentioned in Rules of Engagement, but rather than cause strife, Ben instead decides to take her and Kirby to Mr. Smoothie's rival, Ms. Milkshake.
    • Ben's encounter with Kracko leads to him mistaking it for SAM.
    • Kirby hums his dance theme when cooking Red Viper, just like he does in Kirby Star Allies.
  • Point of Divergence: The story's main plot is essentially what would happen if during Pier Pressure, it was Kirby instead of Ship that Ben and Julie encountered on their first date, thereby entangling them into the war between Nightmare and the Star Warriors.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Starter Villain: This role is taken by Mega Titan, who is the first monster Nightmare sends to fight Kirby and Ben.
  • Suddenly Voiced: In canon, Red Viper never spoke a word, but here, he is capable of talking with an obvious Sssssnake Talk.
  • Sword Beam: Just like in canon, Meta Knight is able to use these with Galaxia.
  • Transformation Sequence: Any time Kirby gains an ability, there is a transformation written a la the anime.
  • Violently Protective Girlfriend:
    • Julie has her Jambastion powers awaken in response to Ben being threatened by Verdona.
    • Likewise, when Verdona learns what happened to Max when the gang was attacked by Rojo, she is rather unhappy and angry.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Averted to an extent. After his appearance, Ben mentions that Ken was sent to live with Joel, Camille, and Lucy for his own safety, and mentions that they are also training him to make sure that he's not an easy target next time.
