"To be honest, I don't know if I follow any of the Gods in this world. But I have no love for the Order and feel their so-called Chief God has no care for those who worship her. I have every intention of dismantling their Order once I have the means to do so. Do not mistake me, I am supportive of co-existence between humans and monsters, but clearly, this world must change."
Lelouch vi Britannia

Knight of Death and Rebirth is a Crossover between Code Geass and the H-series Monster Girl Encyclopedia, written by sephiroth12285. It was released on March 29, 2020, and has been pumping out chapters ever since. It is also posted on SpaceBattles.com.

After being exiled from the Holy Britannian Empire and left to die in Japan, Lelouch and Nunnally are picked up by a mysterious old man who offers him a chance to get back at those who wronged them. The catch? He must undergo a whole new training regimen and travel to a whole new world where monsters, magic, and gods exist.

But even that's not as simple. One side is the Order of the Chief God, a superpower whose Gods treat them nothing more than blind pawns under their control. Since then, they have been fighting a Forever War with countless types of monsters based on real-world myths and legends. While they still continue to wage war against the creatures, the monsters now take up the forms of...well, monster girls. Unfortunately, while the girls have become far more advanced since their uplift, they also turn out to be devils who seek out men to spend the rest of their days in unholy pleasures. Worse yet, there are those who seek to turn everyone into monsters with their new powers, putting the Order on the losing side of the war.

Fortunately, Lelouch is unable to accept either outcome, as he seeks to destroy Britannia and refuses to become someone's mate. Furthermore, there's another great evil that seeks to destroy everything, and he must prepare for the greater threat the looms over everyone.

Tropes Geassed/Monsterized

  • Advanced Ancient Acropolis: Agartha, one of the city ruins that survived Ragnarok, is the home base of those wishing to save Earth and Midgard.
  • Adventure-Friendly World: The world is established like this for Lelouch and his eventual Black Knights. All of the worlds that are not Midgard or Earth are Death World wastelands that are impossible for normal humans to thrive in. Earth is threatened by the Holy Britannian Empire, with their resistance too weak, corrupt, and divided to make any progress against them. On Midgard, the Order of the Chief God is technically fighting a losing war against the Demon Lord with a power they are completely unable to fight back against. The fact that they're in Medieval Stasis from their overreliance on the obviously deceptive Chief God doesn't help matters. Lelouch is pretty much the only one who can make things right in both worlds, especially thanks to his resistance to demonic energy and is one of the few people who knows exactly what's going in both worlds.
  • After the End: The whole MGE world, labeled Midgard, and Earth are the only two surviving worlds after Ragnarok.
  • Author Appeal: Making Lelouch not only the center of the story but also giving him an Adaptational Heroism upgrade.
  • Becoming the Mask: The Heroes' personalities were merely to hide their true desires, completely repressing their emotions. After Lescatie's fall and with help from Lelouch, the masks start to supplant their personalities.
  • Bedmate Reveal: Wilmarina starts sleeping with Lelouch in his bed.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: The Holy Britannian Empire is Lelouch's main enemy in his world. In the other world, there's the Order of the Chief God and the monsters, or more specifically Lilith and her daughters. Then, there's Eden Vital that plots to destroy the world.
  • Culture Clash: The inevitable result of a modern society of humans coming across a world sticking to the rules of H-works.
  • Corrupt Church: The Order of the Chief God, especially in the Theocracy of Lescatie.
  • Crapsack World: Midgard, the setting for the MGE world, is arguably worse off than Earth. The latter at least has other powers that can oppose Britannia. On the other hand, it's pretty clear that unless something world-changing happens, Midgard will eventually become one big Demon Realm.
  • Create Your Own Hero: The monsters have been successful by avoiding things that would result in this. However, the story has them inadvertently cause this trope anyway.
    • The first step was Meivia's Attempted Rape of Lelouch (though she was being influenced by a Siren's song), which gets Levin injured and solidified the exiled prince's resentment towards their indulgences to sex. His mission in destroying a Mantago-infested village and Druella's shameless desire to create a world of sexual depravity didn't help things either. Lilith calls out both her and Mari, who was responsible for the Siren singing, for making an incredibly dangerous enemy they couldn't afford to make.
    • Similarly, the Fall of Lescatie and witnessing Elt's unhealthy harem has caused the remaining Heroes to join Lelouch.
  • Death World: Basically any world that is not Midgard or Earth.
    • Muspelheim, the home of the Fire Giants, became a wasteland of volcanic ash after an apocalyptic battle took place.
    • Helheim is a frozen wasteland resulting from the sun being blacked out with temperatures far too cold for ordinary humans. The frost giants are able to establish safe small settlements, but the outside is infested with Snow Elves now gone savage.
    • Svartalfheim is a widespread toxic jungle save for dotted underground settlements, and they are not protected from the poisonous atmosphere. The dark elves also deploy mutant creatures as attack dogs outside of the domes.
    • Vanaheim is a downplayed case since the environment is stable and there is nothing that could harm even a crippled girl like Nunnally. The only real danger is the lack of water with oases too far apart.
  • Doomed Hometown: While not destroyed, Lescatie ends up a Demon Realm that many of the surviving Heroes are forced to evacuate.
  • Double Standard Rape: Female on Male: Monsters are encouraged to do this to their chosen mates. Lelouch has already been a victim of several attempts, which prompts him to change the way of the monsters.
  • Everyone Can See It: Implied by Lelouch when he easily guessed the Love Triangle between Elt, Wilmarina, and Luciana. As Zero, he warns Wilmarina of the consequences of getting involved in such affairs, considering who they're working for.
  • Everyone Has Standards: Priest Noscrim may be a scumbag who only cares about political power, but he accepts the achievements of Zero and understands that his actions are Necessarily Evil. Even when he plots to assassinate his asset, it's more out of the horror of what could possibly destroy more than just his political standing.
    • The Mamono themselves have common traits, as none will accept one who is Ax-Crazy, for example. They also think ill of the Holy Britannian Empire and their Social Darwinist policies, seeing them as a potential threat to their society. In fact, when Asura Mythra reveals this about them, Lelouch’s love interests are quite appalled, understanding full well why he wants them Deader than Dead.
  • Evil Cannot Comprehend Good: While the monsters are nobler than the Order and what they appear to be on the outside, they often have the issue of why Lelouch finds their views of love and finding a mate disdainful. A few get it upon witnessing his power, but ones like Druella and the Radical Faction do not, further earning his disapproval.
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: Lescatie is basically pre-revolution France combined with a Corrupt Church.
  • Final Exchange: A quick one between Zero and Harum the Echidna.
Harum: You are fortunate I don't like killing men.
Zero: That is a weakness. (shoots Harum in the head)
  • Fish out of Water: The Remnant of Lescatie's Heroes become this, after their escape from Druella's invasion.
  • Godzilla Threshold: As stated in canon, Lilith doesn't like how Druella goes to extremes to pursue the future she envisions. However, because of Lescatie's achievements and growing power among the Order states, she grants her daughter the green light to launch an invasion.
  • Hotter and Sexier: Compared to the author's other major work, Kings of Revolution. Justified by Monster Girl Encyclopedia being an H-series.
  • Hopeless War: What the situation on Midgard amounts to, considering the Mamono’s seeming invincibility thanks to their demonic mana and the Order being stuck in Medeival Stasis in both anti-monster beliefs and technological advancement. Things do not look as hopeless once Lelouch reveals the source of his power as The Immune, and his relationships with several Monster leaders cause them to somewhat splinter.
  • Idealist vs. Pragmatist:
    • Lelouch uses whatever means to defeat the Big Bad Ensemble composed of Britannia, the Order of the Chief God, and the Mamono. Most of the Mamono are Idealists who hate killing people and wish to diplomatically ease Lelouch's hatred towards the Royal Makai.
    • Members from the eventually-defunct Order of the Holy Ice Flower are on either side. On the Idealist side, they try to restrain Lelouch from going off the deep end such as abusing his Geass. On the Pragmatic side, they're willing to one-sidedly slaughter Britannian soldiers and Mamono whenever they murder civilians or resort to actions they find utterly distasteful.
  • Interspecies Friendship: In a world where monster girls and humans exist, it is very common for the two to interact.
  • Lost Technology:
    • An ancient machine capable of making people The Immune to demonic mana.
    • Also the Staltalnr, an ancient cousin to Knightmare Frames.
  • Magic Music: The Singasteinn in Svartalheim provides knowledge to those who interact with it through the use of songs.
  • Mass "Oh, Crap!": No other reaction could describe the monsters when they learn that Zero can purify their demonic mana.
  • More than Mind Control: Demonic mana does more than just affect the body, it also alters and amplifies the psychological and spiritual aspects of their minds and souls, making them prefer becoming monsters and remaining that way.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • Monique and Harum are two adversaries of Mimil in her Fallen Brides story.
    • In the conversation about monsters being viewed differently than they are on Earth, two of the examples Lelouch gives are Witches and the fox deity Inari-Okami. In the MGE world, the witch and inari are the monster forms of Mimil and Koyoi respectively.
  • Nothing Is the Same Anymore: At the end of Chapter 7, Lescatie has fallen as in canon, but several members from the Order of the Ice Flower manage to escape, now they're forced to deal with a situation where they are technically free and have no more ties to the Order. At the same time, Druella knows there's another world besides their own and she's become stunned over being rejected by Zero.
  • "Not So Different" Remark:
    • Lelouch sees quite the similarity between Britannia and Lescatie. He also finds a lot in common with Wilmarina, considering their backgrounds.
    • Similarly, when The Remnant studies Earth, they admit that Lescatie is much like the old French monarchy, which is the main inspiration for the old Theocracy.
  • Original Generation: There is a whole story connecting the two series together that involves cracking down an Ancient Conspiracy, including taking down a Primordial God of Destruction and her ancient Apocalypse Cult.
  • Outside-Context Problem: The monster that attacks the Shinjuku Ghetto surprises all sides, and it took Lelouch's party to deal with it.
  • Power Limiter: All humans have one, imposed by the Gods as a means to control them. The only way to release it is through a "blessing" by a divinity, transforming into a monster, or through intense physical training.
  • Reconstruction: Provides one to the standard fantasy RPG settings, especially those involving one coming from another, as well as elements the involved H-series deconstructed.
    • Lelouch may be a powerful Hero in a sense, but he's not naive compared to the usual Heroes of Midgard, setting his goals through his own experience rather than the misinformation given out by either party. While he has his own goals and takes advantage of Midgard in his own quest to destroy Britannia, he's willing to help the residents of Midgard, as it's far more beneficial for him to do so. Since he's there to save the world, not kill a powerful Demon Lord, he's willing to protect many monsters who are his friends and only fights the Demon Lord if she and her siblings serve as an obstacle to his goals and overall world peace.
    • Conversely, decent characters are applied to humans as well as monsters. Heroes of the Order live up to the ideals and virtues placed upon them, even when the system itself is corrupt to the core and led by a Mad God; those who got corrupted into monsters only did so because they were either forced into it or deprived of their own harmless desires and could no longer bear the pain.
    • Furthermore, the setting is much more fluid and realistic with the power scaling, where everyone becomes strong through training and experience in combat rather than experience points and levels despite a Power Limiter set on everyone. Lelouch is also the most powerful specifically by relying on his knowledge and equipment from both worlds, rather than having a Purposely Overpowered skill upon arrival. While it may not look like much, it is enough to take on enemies who were once thought hopeless to defeat, including a Lilim, making him the most effective Hero out of the entire cast.
  • Secret Identity: Lelouch still uses his "Zero" identity, complete with mask, so that the monsters cannot attack him via his loved ones.
  • Shout-Out:
  • Shown Their Work: Compared to most Monster Girl Encyclopedia fics, this one goes into incredible detail about the series' elements. Most noteworthy are the actual conditions of the Monster Realms, known foods, named characters, and politics of the world's setting. Even non-canon works and fan-made characters are carefully and cleverly integrated.
  • Sinister Minister:
    • The Order's clergymen within Lescatie, especially Wilmarina's father, who also doubles as Corrupt Politician.
  • Starter Villain: Monique the Amazonness Chieftain and Harum the Echidna are the first monster leaders story-wise who end up victims to Lelouch and the Holy Ice Flower.
  • The Remnant: Wilmarina, Luciana, Mimil, the Three Musketeers (Olivie, Paula, and Alameria), and Kirsch are all that's left of the Order of the Holy Ice Flower who remain human.
  • The Theocracy: The Order of the Chief God is a collection of anti-monster states who fight monsters in devotion to the Chief God, even if Lelouch knows she doesn't care about them one bit.
  • Thou Shalt Not Kill: The mindset of the monsters ever since their uplift. Deconstructed as they have incredible amounts of resources and ability, but since that means nothing against Britannia, Lelouch cannot count on them as reliable allies.
    • Subverted as Druella states that they've admittedly killed in self-defense before. Even then, Zero still doesn't trust them for other reasons...
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: Averted, the Zenkor attack in Shinjuku gets attention despite the Britannian military's attempts to cover it up, and it's often talked about by numerous factions.
  • Uplifted Animal: What happened to all of the monsters in Midgard thanks to Lilith's intervention.
  • Villain World: Defied though played straight beforehand. Prior to Lilith, the Gods always had full control to tamper with the fates of both humans and monsters alike, allowing crime and corrupt nobles or priests to take full control. The world under Lilith defies this trope as best she as she is trying to make things better for both humanity and monsters alike.
  • Wham Episode:
    • Chapter 14. While the Shinjuku skirmish ends in the terrorists' victory like in canon, a huge monster manifests from the host of one of them. Although the creature is destroyed, its very existence alerts everyone.
