Nation of Krakoa

With the founding of the mutant nation of Krakoa, a number of new mutant characters were introduced as part of the population of the island. Many of the younger mutants resided in the Akademos Habitat, where they experimented with their powers and learned what it meant to be part of a mutant nation under the guidance of the New Mutants. Some mutants did not live on the island itself, but at one of the subsidiary territories like the Savage Land farm lands. As a new nation they’ve begun to form branches of government or functions as the need becomes apparent. When the need came for intelligence and security, they developed a Krakoan CIA. When they needed a to handle magical affairs and mediate between Krakoa and Otherworld, Excalibur came together. When the need for investigation into mutant deaths in order to help the Five figure out who to resurrect arose a new X-Factor Investigations started up.

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/8dc1d270_542d_4c26_b366_b4829f89ca11.jpeg

Species: Living island

First Appearance: Giant Sized X-Men #1 (May, 1975)

Created by Len Wein and Dave Cockrum, Krakoa was the catalyst for a turning point in the X-Men, ushering in a new roster while seeing the exit of the old one aside from its leader Cyclops. The general story is that the X-Men went to investigate a mutant signature on and island only to discover that the island itself was the mutant in question which became hostile and captured the team with only Cyclops escaping. This gets Professor X to assemble a rescue team of multinational mutants which eventually replaced the old team after succeeding. It was then retconned that there was a previous rescue team that was killed by the hostile Island.

In 2019 Krakoa was repurposed by Jonathan Hickman in X-Men (2019) which kicked off Dawn of X. In it, the Professor brokers peace with Krakoa so it can become a nation for all mutants, in the Professor’s attempt along with Magneto and Moira to create a peaceful future for mutantkind.

Tropes pertaining to the living island include:

  • Aliens in Cardiff: Krakoa is a resource rich, lush, advanced and alien-esque land where mutants reside. It is not located in North America, and certainly not near New York City like one might expect from Marvel, or on some fancy place like the Moon, Mars or an altogether alien world, or even some alternate dimension, but rather in the Oceania region, not far off from Australia.
  • The Alliance: Krakoa hosts an alliance of mutants, of all kinds and backgrounds (heroes, villains, neutrals) bound together to give mutantkind a home as they are set to become the majority.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Well over fifty feet, as at its full size Krakoa is 100 square miles tall. House of X elaborates on this, as it explains that the Krakoa the X-Men originally fought in GSX was in its smaller, "winter" phase, and when properly fed it would blossom into something much larger that could produce a number of useful effects for mutantkind's benefit.
  • Beauty Equals Goodness: In its appearances as a villain Krakoa is a very alien and unattractive being, while in of House of X it's basically a mutant Ent.
  • Best Friend: Has formed a close bond with Cypher, one of the few people it can communicate with. It even begs him not to participate in the X of Swords tournament, fearing for his life.
  • Conlang: Krakoa now has its own language, devised by Cypher, that is telepathically imprinted on any mutants who come to its main island. This language is shown throughout the comics. It should be noted that this is the language spoken by the mutants of Krakoa, which is wholly discrete from the language spoken by the island Krakoa.
  • Depending on the Writer: How sapient is Krakoa and its spawn? Well, how sapient does the writer want Krakoa to be? Officially Krakoa is "Slow/Impaired", as its power grid gives it that rating for its intelligence. This is contradicted by its original appearance, though, in which Krakoa was fully sentient, capable of human speech, reasoning, and setting traps. In Deadly Genesis Krakoa was a mindless brute that can only scream, as was Krakoa II. Jason Aaron's Wolverine and the X-Men showed Krakoa's "grandson" as what one would expect from the power grid rating, having the intelligence to befriend Quentin Quire but being treated as a "team pet" kind of creature rather than a true member of the team. 2019's House of X seems to canonize this, as Krakoa apparently needs a human representative to communicate, though otherwise it seems to be at least at Krakoa III level intelligence.
  • Diabolus ex Nihilo: Krakoa II's history is completely unknown. It popped out of nowhere to attack the Young X-Men, it's only around because there was a bit of drama going on at the time over "which Young X-Man isn't a mutant?" and its mutant-detecting abilities made it a good Monster of the Week, and in the next issue it's just... gone. Not defeated, not even commented on, just gone with the Young X-Men back stateside.
  • Diplomatic Impunity: Anyone, regardless of their moral fiber, is given amnesty just for being a mutant. There are some limits, as Reed makes it clear there will be issue if Cyclops tried to take back Sabretooth, and Cyclops backs out. That said, it's heavily implied to just be a delay more than anything, and Sabretooth is indeed given amnesty and put to work... only to quickly be made an example of and subjected to Krakoa's brand of justice.
  • Fantastic Drug: In House of X a more morally grey Professor X synthesizes "super drugs" from Krakoa's flowers, and like Superior Iron Man in AXIS gleefully monetizes them for his own purposes.
  • Fantastic Fauna Counterpart: In its original appearance Krakoa can be boiled down to "what if Godzilla was a tree?"
  • Fantasy Counterpart Culture: According to Jonathan Hickman, Krakoa is based on modern Israel. Specifically, how ideals can clash with the reality of politics in the attempt to build a "mutant nation".
  • Genius Loci: A living island. Literally every living thing on Krakoa - the animals, the plants, the rocks - are extensions of its will. Later on, it became the grounds of the Jean Grey School.
    • Jean even notes that it "recognizes its own" as why mutants can come to it freely.
  • Giant Enemy Crab: Some of the creatures living on it, and which Krakoa sets on Wolverine and Nightcrawler, fall under this trope.
  • Good Is Not Soft: It is a now a willing home to mutantkind but it will be quick to remind the Quiet Council that it has done so as a great courtesy and that it has a say in big decisions about the nations.
  • Hero Killer: It killed the intermediate team of X-Men of Vulcan, Darwin, Petra and Sway. Vulcan and Darwin got better (for a given value of "better" in Vulcan's case). Petra and Sway did not until the formation of the Five (consisting of Hope Summers, Proteus, Elixir, Tempest, and Egg — formerly Goldballs).
  • Hidden Elf Village: Krakoa, a nation that only mutants can reside in. Humans must have permission from higher authorities to visit, and are unable to live there. Similarly, beings of other superpowered origins (such as mutates) like the Fantastic Four or Spider-Man also fall under this restriction. The only two known exceptions thus far of non-mutants living on Krakoa is the alien dragon Lockheed (more of a Team Pet than an actual individual of his own) and the techno-organic alien Warlock (considered a "mutant" of a sort for being different than the other members of his race). Notably, this restriction even appears to extend to past friends, allies and team members that weren't actually mutants; Omega Sentinel, a former member of the X-Men but not a mutant, was not extended the ability to reside there, which may partly explain why she now works against them as part of Orchis.
    • There has been shown to be two humans who live on Krakoa: Shogo, the adopted baby son of Jubilee, and Kyle Jinadu, the husband of Northstar. Presumably, if mutants want to bring their human children or spouses to Krakoa, they can.
  • It Can Think: As it turns out, Krakoa manipulated Charles Xavier's mind so he would gather new Mutants for it to feed on. These same Mutants helped send it flying into space.
  • Legacy Character: There've been a number of other Krakoas since the original. Krakoa II appeared in 2008's Young X-Men and no explanation has ever been given in regards to where it came from, while Krakoa III appeared in 2011's Wolverine and the X-Men as an artificially grown clone of the original. The creator of Krakoa III grew a number of lesser Krakoas, while Mr. Sinister also cloned the original Krakoa and retooled it into his castle.
  • Monster Progenitor: With all the other Krakoas that have appeared over the decades, the original has become this.
    • Judgment Day (Marvel Comics) would reveal that Krakoa, as Okkara, existed before the Celestials modified the Earth into a sentient machine, and was in fact used as reference to model it on.
  • Mutant: Distinctly stated to be one in its original appearance with the line, "The Mutant is the island itself!" Just not a human Mutant. But it still registered on Cerebro, however. This is tossed by Krakoa's Marvel Handbook entry, which states that it is not a mutant, just a freakish accident of science.
    • Retconned again in the Johnathan Hickman era. Krakoa is a mutant and has been around for centuries, it used to be part of a bigger mutant island called Okkara until it was split in half. Then it went dormant until being woken up by the nuclear testing that was believed to have created it.
  • Nuclear Mutant: Giant Sized X-Men claims it gained sentience thanks to nuclear testing.
  • Organic Technology:
    • In X-Force, Forge has started to take advantage of the Krakoa's natural resources to construct weaponry.
    • In general, the founding of Krakoa has given way to the concept of "Mutant Technology" in which two mutants or more use their powers together to achieve effects that one could not do on their own.
      • "The Five" is their premiere example of this, with Elixir, Goldballs, Proteus, Tempus, and Hope Summers using their powers together to resurrect deceased mutants.
      • In S.W.O.R.D. (2020), The Six (Manifold, Fabian Cortez, Peepers, Risque, Wiz Kid, and Armor) combine their abilities to mine raw materials from the edge of creation to synthesize Mysterium.
      • The earliest considered example is the "The Fastball Special" which included Colossus and Wolverine
      • In Empyre Crossover, Magneto uses his powers in conjunction of those with Iceman and Magma to repel the Cotati invasion on Krakoa.
  • Our Vampires Are Different: Krakoa was arguably the first "energy vampire" in the X-Men universe, as it needs mutants to feed upon to maintain its strength. House of X gives Krakoa a seemingly symbiotic relationship with mutants, as opposed to just feeding on them without giving them anything in return, but at the end of the day it is still this, and it is ultimately revealed that Krakoa must feed on enough mutant energy to kill two adult mutants every year (they avert this by having every mutant on Krakoa give a portion of their energy, but it can only last so long as all mutants buy into the House of X's sell).
  • Portal Network: Krakoa now has a type of flower that grows in an arch that teleports whoever it wishes to a paired flower in a remote location. They'll automatically transport mutants, but humans need mutants to ask permission to travel to the main island itself.
  • The Promised Land: Turns into one in House of X. Though, with The Reveal that Krakoa is still a mutant energy vampire that all its citizens must feed a portion of their energy to, it's a distinctly dark example.
  • Retcon: Deadly Genesis claims that actually, Krakoa wasn't really sapient, Charles was just messing with everyone's perceptions so that they thought it was. This was eventually re-retconned that it was intelligent after all.
    • Powers of X introduces a second retcon, claiming that Krakoa was not actually a product of nuclear radiation at all but was instead part of a greater sentient landmass called Okkara that was split into two by a mysterious enemy wielding a "Twilight Sword".
  • The Reveal: In the original Giant-Sized X-Men, the story plays out with the X-Men having been captured while exploring a mysterious island for an unknown Mutant. It's not until the third act that they find out the island is the Mutant.
  • Significant Anagram: Its name was retconned as this with the reveal that it is actually half of an ancient sentient landmass called Okkara, and its other half is Arakko.
  • Small Role, Big Impact: Were it not for Krakoa, there might never have been a need for the All-New X-Men to be formed.
  • Super-Strength: This is Krakoa's highest rated stat; with a rating of 7, it is capable of lifting 100+ tons.
  • There Is Another: The retcons of Hickman's X-Men reveals that Krakoa has a counterpart island names Arakko that is trapped in Otherworld, and before then the two were one landmass named Okkara.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Went from hostile energy sucking abomination that actually had killed a few X-men to friendly welcoming peaceful home to all mutantkind.
  • Treants: While Krakoa is an island, during the event Fall of the House of X (Crossover), while escaping the super-sentinel Nimrod, Krakoa leaves the physical island, stomps on the machine and goes on the lam. In this form, it visibly resembles a giant tree creature.
  • Truce Zone: Officially, Krakoa is this for all mutants. Everyone, regardless of legal status (hero, villain, or whatever), can live on Krakoa so long as they don't cause trouble there. However, the amnesty offered only extends so far, and seems to be something revoked if it would cause too much trouble with others, such as Sabretooth's arrest by the Fantastic Four.
  • Was Once a Man: Billions of years before they split into Krakoa and Arakko, Okkara was an individual named Grove, the leader of a the first generation of mutants called Threshhold, and a mutant with the ability to heal wounds as vegetation.
  • Weaksauce Weakness: Krakoa is vulnerable to cold weather and magnetic pulses supercharged with bolts of lightning.

    The Quiet Council

The Quiet Council of Krakoa

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/48be0abb_7513_46a1_a0ed_a7e0e3e9b983.jpeg
Members: Autumn (Xavier, Destiny, and Hope Summers) Winter (Mystique, Exodus, and Selene) Spring (Emma Frost, Sebastian Shaw, and Kate Pryde) Summer (Storm, Nightcrawler, and Colossus) Krakoa (Cypher)
The governing body tasked with creating and enforcing the laws of the nation-state upon Krakoa.
  • Big Bad Ensemble: Share the role of this for the Krakoan Era with Orchis, Moira X and formerly Genesis. Notably while the others are enemies of Krakoa, most of their internal problems come from the selfishness, corruptness, biases and sheer incompetence of this council. Any time a problem with Krakoa is somehow fixed it's always the result of someone going behind the council’s back.
  • Covert Group with Mundane Front: The Hellfire Club gets its own quarter as the Spring seats of the Hellfire Club which handles international trade both criminal and legitimate as a way to give their drugs to citizens of nations who don’t recognize Krakoa as a sovereign nation. It serves as the seedy underworld. Since they needed Emma she got to pick two chairs, one for herself as White Queen and another which she gave to Kate Pryde as the Red Queen. The third chair went to Sebastian Shaw.
  • Keeping the Enemy Close: The Winter seats. Exodus is a Knight Templar with a twisted sense of right and wrong that he has a history of imposing on others. Sinister is only a mutant because he stole Thunderbird's genes and he's, well Sinister, but they need his genius and DNA database. Mystique is not trustworthy in the slightest. Xavier reasons that they can keep and eye on them as well as temper their worse qualities by giving them the illusion of control.
  • The Leader: The Autumn seats are for the great leaders of Mutantkind. Xavier who founded the X-Men, Magneto who has founded the Brotherhood and then Acolytes, and Apocalypse who founded the Clan Akabba and has led mutantkind throughout mellenia.
  • Mirror Character: For all of their talk about being above the flaws of humanity, they stack their council with people who have great superpowers, highly valuable skills or incredible connections, while never bothering to nominate or invite more "common" mutants. Sounds oddly similar to how human politics tend to work.
  • Morality Chain: The purpose of the Summer seats. They will do what they think is right even against their best interests providing a moral center to the Quiet Council, with Nightcrawler being The Heart of the X-Men, Storm being the Team Mom and Jean being a little bit of both. Too bad there are only three seats and the QC puts everything to a majority rule vote. This becomes worse when Jean leaves, but she entrusts Kurt to remain as the "Soul of The Quiet Council". Then a compromised Colossus gets Jean's seat, Nightcrawler leaves and things quickly go to hell.
  • Not So Omnicient Council Of Bickering: This is what they end up becoming after Inferno. Instead of focusing on defeating Orchis, Nimrod and the Children of the Vault, they keep overestimating themselves while completely losing focus on why the council was made in the first place (defeating the enemies of mutantkind). It leads to utter disaster.
  • Translator Buddy: Cypher's role in the council. He's the only one who can translate for Krakoa itself. Naturally this makes Krakoa very attached to him.

Members: Red Bishop (Captain Commander and Hellfire Trading Company), Cyclops (X-Men), Magik (Akademos Habitat) and Kwannon (Hellions)
Former Members: Gorgon

    The Five

The Five

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/fd92d4f5_8735_4d54_bf35_3e8d415a8c1f.jpeg
A team of mutants who use their powers together to resurrect deceased mutants.
  • Ability Mixing: They combine their respective abilities to create new bodies for deceased mutants with DNA from Mr. Sinister's collection after which Professor X uploads their mental back up from Cerebro. First Egg produces one of his non viable golden eggs which Proteus warps into viable ones. Hope injects the DNA, after which Elixir uses his biological manipulation powers to fertilize the Egg with a body from said DNA. Tempus uses her time manipulation powers to age that body to a desired age. Hope uses her Omega level power manipulation abilities to coordinate between the other members of the Five and harmonizes their powers to complete the resurrection. Finally Xavier restores their mind from Cerebro.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Subverted and actually inverted. Xavier thought the process would tire the Five out and had power copying mutants like Synch and Mimic resurrected first so they could sub in for members who felt depleted. However that proved to be unnecessary as the process actually does the opposite, energizing The Five the more they do it.
  • Family of Choice: When Moira reveals she never loved Proteus at the 2022 Hellfire Gala, he disowns her and grimly says he has no family. The rest of the Five immediately jump to his defense with Hope declaring they are Proteus' family.
  • Loved by All: They are unsurprisingly the most beloved among the Krakoans since the brought a lot of them and their loved ones back to life.
  • Screw the Rules, I'm Doing What's Right!: Eventually becoming tired of the Quiet Council's bureaucracy and rules, the Five eventually overturn their rule against resurrecting clones.
  • True Companions: The process has created an unbreakable bond between the Five making then inseparable.

Nationality: Krakoan

Species: Human mutant

First Appearance: Marauders #1 (October, 2019)

  • Amazing Technicolor Population: Her skin is pink.
  • Bad Powers, Bad People: By all appearances she's a sadistic little monster whose power is to inflict bad luck on others and has to be used to inflict suffering or else she'll suffer backlash.
  • Enfante Terrible: In the second arc of Wolverine's Infinity Comic series, she's revealed to love macabre things like mass murder, fully expecting to end up in the hole in Krakoa one day.
  • The Exile: For killing humans, she and Nature Girl were set to be sealed on Krakoa, only for the island itself to let them go, but forbidding them to ever return.
  • Jerkass: Her first lines were mocking Kate for being unable to use the gates.
  • The Jinx: Her power is to induce bad luck by vocalizing negative outcomes, signified by green dialogue text.
  • Nightmare Fetishist: When given a nightmare vision of a hellish landscape populated by monsters mutilating people, she's overjoyed.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Her real name hasn't been revealed yet.
  • Pent-Up Power Peril: She has to use her curse powers on others, otherwise they build up and afflict her instead. She's like a mutant version of Roger, she couldn't be nice even if she wanted to.
  • Psychic Block Defense: She's resistant to telepathic control though she can still be communicated with.
  • Psycho Pink: Her skin is pink and she has shown clear signs of sociopathy.
  • Toxic Friend Influence: She motivates and enables Nature Girl's resentment and growing cynicism towards humanity and the Quiet Council, leading to both of them commit acts of eco-terrorism. She eventually admits to have invoked this from the very start by using her powers to wish Nature Girl was her friend, which made Lin spiral into fanaticism.

First Appearance: Sabretooth (vol. 3) #1 (February, 2022)

  • Foil: He's as clever and perceptive as Sabretooth but with a calm and collected personality and compassion for others.
  • The Lancer: To Sabretooth among the Pit inmates, Sabretooth controls their simulated world with his mind but he has the ability to dispel the illusion if he abuses it and is shaping up to be something of a Big Good for the other prisoners.
  • Nice Guy: He seems to be motivated by a genuine desire to simply help people, and is calm and polite in personal interactions.
  • Only Sane Man: One of the few mutants on Krakoa who is willing to openly criticize the Quiet Council and point out how their laws make no sense.
  • True Sight: A part of his powerset. He is the only one able to immediately perceive that the hellish pit that Sabretooth has created is simply an illusion and that the prisoners are actually asleep and in stasis. He’s able to share this perception with the others.

Nationality: Carnelian, Krakoan

Species: Human mutant

First Appearance: New Mutants (Vol. 4) #9 (March, 2020)

A young teenager from the Republic of Carnelia in Eastern Europa. She was amongst the first mutants rescued by the New Mutants and brought to Krakoa after the emergence of her powers caused a massive incident in the anti-mutant Carnelia. Upon arriving in Krakoa she befriended Anole, No-Girl, and Rain Boy, all of whom felt similarly disfigured by their mutant powers.
  • Blessed with Suck: She's very much aware her powers have made her deformed and barely human-looking.
  • Body Horror: Due to the unstable nature of her powers, her body is mutated to the point she barely looks human. Seeking to return to how she had once looked, Cosmar asked Dani Moonstar to kill her in the Crucible so she might be revived by the Five, but was denied due to the Crucible being only used to restore those who had lost their mutant powers.
  • Power Incontinence: Her power is so uncontrollable it mutated her and her surroundings.
  • Reality Warper: Her dreams affect reality around her. Her dreams form a sphere around her and everyone who made contact with it — either physically or through telepathy — would be dragged and trapped inside.
  • Self-Made Orphan: The uncontrolled manifestation of her powers resulted in the accidental death of her parents, which triggered an even greater breakdown of her abilities.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: She's allowed to visit Masque's clinic and receive a plastic surgery that makes her look far more human-like and pretty, albeit still with purple skin and uneven eyes.

  • "Freaky Friday" Flip: Her power is to essentially warp reality to temporarily switch places with a person of her choice. There's a lot of kinks to work out due to her inexperience using it, but while she usually retains her appearance everyone will treat her as the person she replaced and she will have access to all their current resources including superpowers. Fortunately for her the person she switched with usually suffers crippling emotional debilitation, another reason she doesn't use it often, incapacitating them from interfering during the switch.
  • Power Copying: A byproduct of her powers. When she switches places with someone, she gains their abilities and powers.
  • Screw Destiny: She’s trying her hardest to avoid the Destiny’s vision that she’ll be responsible for the death of her best friend Morgan Red. She succeeds, which makes her pissed at Irene and Emma for telling her that in the first place.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: Subverted; she plays herself up as a supervillain as a reaction to her Dark and Troubled Past, but it's clearly a facade to take some agency for her life while rejecting the oppressive limits imposed on her. After dealing with real supervillains in the U-Men, she tells Morgan she no longer wants to be a supervillain.

Three citizens fron ancient settlement of mutants on Earth from Billions of years ago who stayed in stasis until present day to revive help against their enemies, the Unbreathing. The Marauders join them on a mission back in time. They either stay or die in their home period but are later resurrected in present day by the Five.
  • All Your Powers Combined: Amass’s merging ability, Theia’s mastery of gravity & time and Crave's ability to gain sustenance from anything allowed them to travel billions of years into their future.
  • Back from the Dead: Crave dies, Amass becomes a prisoner to the Unbreathing with his fate unknown and Theia remains in the past. Regardless of the circumstances they all die a billion years before the Marauders return to their home time but are all resurrected by the Five.
  • Stable Time Loop: The circumstances that brought them to the present inspired Kate to organize a mutant circuit that seeded Threshold in the first place.

First Appearance: X-Force (Vol. 6) #11 (August, 2020)

An inhabitant of Krakoa who developed a friendship with Colossus to help him in the process of having a normal life as a farmer by cultivating Krakoan drugs to overcome his battle traumas.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: She's purple.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Most of the time she's nice and peaceful, but as X-Force found out, far from defenseless.
  • Huge Guy, Tiny Girl: Not that this is difficult with Colossus, who is the epitome of The Big Guy among the X-Men.
  • Making a Splash: Can control water in a variety of ways, which is likely used in her job of tending the Krakoan flower fields. It's strong enough to drank water from Hank's body to the point of near dehydration, which was probably only so she could threaten him with a knife fashioned from it.
  • Mysterious Past: Where she came from or what she did before Krakoa hasn't been mentioned yet.
  • Only One Name: If she has a last name, it hasn't been revealed.
  • Pink Is Feminine: Wears a simple pink dress and she's pretty feminine.

Nationality: Krakoan

Species: Human mutant

First Appearance: Way of X #1 (April, 2021)

A de-powered mutant who found Nightcrawler upon arriving on Krakoa. She tried to ask him to fight her in the Crucible in order to regain her powers. She ended up facing Magneto in a much more brutal confrontation and was eventually resurrected and re-powered.
  • Body Horror: Lost's mutant power is "gravitational neutrality" — gravity has no effect on her body, making it very tall and thin. However, since M-Day de-powered her, her body has suffered gravity while staying the same shape. When Kurt sees her without her cloak during the Crucible, her body is folded in a way that looks very painful.
  • De-power: She lost her powers on M-Day. She eventually shows up on Krakoa hoping for them to be restored.
  • Forgiveness: Nightcrawler tries to teach her this towards Fabian Cortez. It takes a long time for the lesson to take.
  • Friend to All Children: It turns out that her power, and her inability to control it, doesn't affect babies whose inner ear bones haven't finished growing. This and her love of telling stories makes her an ideal caretaker for Stacy-X's orphanage.
  • Gravity Master: She constantly destabilizes gravity around herself.
  • Mercy Kill: Enters herself into the "Crucible" so she can die and be resurrected with her powers restored. She tried to select Nightcrawler as her opponent because he's a "kindly one" who would have gone easy on her. Since he was too distracted (and didn't realise what she was asking for) she ends up facing Magneto instead, and he does not hold back during the fight.
  • Only Known by Their Nickname: Was referred to as "Lost" until Stacy-X was able to learn her real name.
  • Power Incontinence: She can't control her gravity powers well, constantly making those around her nauseous by disrupting their inner ear balance.
  • Sealed Evil In A Person: Before she came to Krakoa she was captured by Orchis who somehow put Onslaught inside her brain so that he could spread through mutants minds and destroy Krakoa.
  • Who's on First?: Either English isn't her native language or she's just not used to talking to others, because she's completely oblivious to the obvious confusion of introducing herself.
  • You Killed My Father: Fabian Cortez killed her parents and she is understandably not happy to see him.

  • Monochromatic Eyes: His eyes glow white when using his powers.
  • Older Than They Look: At least twice over. During his one night stand with Daken, they dreamed of a life together in which they grew old together. Due to the nature of Carl's mutation, this was all actually within one night. Carl actually lived a full life, all of which was backed up by Cerebro right before he died. He was resurrected with all the memories of his life but in a younger body.
