American Team
This is an anime-only team that was gathered for a series of exhibition games held in Tokyo. This triggers a (rather... infamous) filler arc in which a training camp is held to select the best eight players and gather a team for such a tournament. Some members of this American Team, however, have more to them than meets the eye...
Kevin Smith
Kevin is the Captain of the American team participating in the US/Japan Goodwill Games in the anime. His wish was to play Ryoma in order to settle a rival/feud between his father, George Smith, and Ryoma's father, Nanjiro Echizen.
- Voiced by: Reiko Kiuchi (JP)
- Break the Cutie: In his past, courtesy of his alcoholic dad.
- Canon Foreigner: He is exclusively created for the anime filler.
- Hot-Blooded: Has a very volatile temper.
George Smith
- Voiced by: Yoshiro Matsumoto (JP)
- Abusive Parents: Parental Neglect version. No wonder Kevin was messed up.
- Age Lift: A lot younger in the anime compared to his Chapter 0 counterpart. It was likely done to make it easier to match Kevin's age with Ryoma's.
- The Alcoholic: He becomes one to cope with his own failures, apart from roughing up his own son.
- Ascended Extra: Originally a one-time character appearing in Chapter 0 of Nanjiro's story, he has a slightly larger role in the anime as Kevin's dad.
- Jerkass: He is both an abusive parent and a bad person in general.
- Kick the Dog: How he treated Ryoma's mother and Kevin.
Billy Cassidy
- Voiced by: Yuuto Kazama (JP)
- Canon Foreigner: He is exclusively created for the anime filler.
- Eagleland: Like many foreign characters, he has a lot of cowboy stereotypes.
- Odd Friendship: With Kevin.
Michael Lee
- Voiced by: Isshin Chiba (JP)
- But Not Too Foreign: Half-Chinese.
- Canon Foreigner: He is exclusively created for the anime filler.
- Sheltered Aristocrat: Hinted to come from a very rich Chinese-American family.

Anime Other Characters
Richard Baker
- Voiced by: Tadahisa Saizen (JP)
- Canon Foreigner: He is exclusively created for the anime filler.
- Money, Dear Boy: In-Universe. There's no other motivation to form a tennis team.
Hannah Essenheimer
Tezuka's therapist in Germany.- Voiced by: Rica Matsumoto (JP)
- Canon Foreigner: Only appears in the anime.
- Drowning My Sorrows: By the time Seigaku regulars meet her, she’s a random drunkard who takes interest in Ryoma.
- Hospital Hottie / Hot Teacher: It turns out she is Tezuka's coach while in Germany.
Kurumi Iijyuin
- Voiced by: Saeko Chiba (JP)
- Canon Foreigner: Only appears in the anime.
- The Glorious War of Sisterly Rivalry: As the Smart Sister. Subverted because she does love Narumi to death otherwise, and that also drives a good part of her inferiority complex.
- Mirror Character: She represents Yuuta, in parallel to his own relationship with Fuji. Fuji sees this and is able to explain to Kurumi how her sister really feels, since their situations are pretty similar.
- Precocious Crush: On Fuji.
- She Cleans Up Nicely: Puts on a cute outfit.
- Token Mini-Moe: She’s a few years younger than the main characters, still attending elementary school.
Narumi Iijyuin
- Voiced by: Yuka Nanri (JP)
- Always Someone Better: For Kurumi.
- Beware the Nice Ones: Soft-spoken, kind, humble, and very efficient in tennis.
- Canon Foreigner: Only appears in the anime.
- Child Prodigy: She is more skilled at tennis than her sister.
- The Glorious War of Sisterly Rivalry: As the Pretty Sister. Narumi actually is depressed and shocked when she learns that Kurumi resents her; she truly had no idea about her sister's conflict, since she views her as both her other half and Worthy Opponent.
- Mirror Character: She represents Fuji, in parallel to his own relationship with Yuuta.
- Token Mini-Moe: She’s a few years younger than the main characters, still attending elementary school.
- Yamato Nadeshiko: One in training.
