    Yui Yumekawa
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/yui.png

Voiced by: Arisa Date

A dreamy cutie who idolizes PriPara and its idols and dreams of becoming one. At times she can be air-headed and lose focus, lost in a fantasy until someone snaps her out of it. She is quick to bond with her new roommate Laala, who helps her when a brand new PriPara suddenly appears in her town. She is a lovely-type who uses Fantasy Time, a brand she made up while drawing her Idol persona.

General Tropes

  • Ascended Fangirl: Like Laala she really likes Idols. But unlike Laala, who initially didn't want to be an Idol, she always dreamed of becoming one.
  • Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: She gets lost in fantasy so much, she rarely pays attention to her surroundings.
  • Berserk Button: Anything involving her brother. She once said she would rather eat-suck rice through her nostrils than even THINK of asking for his help.
    • Also, being teased with food. Her anger can cause her to focus and function like a normal person!
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Normally bubbly and harmless, but tease her with food and she will plot to destroy you. Usually in the form of public embarrassment with blackmail.
  • Big Eater: She enjoys eating, which is why she carries around her rice cooker.
  • Character Catchphrase: "Yume (something)" note  for both good and bad things. She often uses Yumekawa / Yume Kawaii note .
  • Character Tics: When fantasizing or delighted by something, Yui puts a hand to her cheek. She does it a LOT in the span of a single episode and appears several times when she performs. It's even her default pose in official artwork and in the arcade game.
  • Cloudcuckoolander: She is known for daydreaming at any given moment.
    • This was best shown when she assumed Laala came from a horrible background after asking her why she transferred. She theorized Laala had an abusive stepmother and her father died out at sea, even when Laala told her the truth (as a Divine Idol, she came to encourage girls to visit PriPara). Distracted by her fantasy, Yui didn't even hear the concerned Laala.
  • Companion Cube: Her rice cooker, Tacky, is this. She carries it on a purse string at all times, even in PriPara.
    • In the very first episode she even said she would marry it.
  • Demoted to Extra: In Idol Land Pripara since she's asleep and can only wake in a smaller form for a limited time. She also became Amari's manager, and Amari is curently replacing her in My Dream.
  • Determinator: Was heavily depressed when she got punished for going to Pri Para and was forced to weed school grounds as punishment. But after being provoked by Shougo she snapped out of it and relentlessly went to work, finishing it in the span of a few days. Then she went on to lend a hand to Laala, who was digging a tunnel to Prism Stone beneath the school.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: A small one, but she is appeared for a scene in the last episode of the original PriPara series.
  • Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's a sweet girl with light blonde hair.
  • Hypocritical Humor: In episode 2 she thinks "Would you come back to reality already?", towards Laala when she thought she was imitating the Idol Laala. Now who is notoriously known for always getting lost in fantasy?
  • Meaningful Name: Her surname "Yumekawa" hints on a japanese fashion slogan Yume Kawaii, which means "dreamy-cute", and indicates girls who use cute items in pastel colors as their main dress coord.
  • No Listening Skills: Due to her constant daydreaming, she has short attention span, as evidenced when she believed that Laala's backstory is similar to Cinderella, when she already explained her reasons why she came to Paparajuku.
  • Sibling Rivalry: With her older brother Shougo.
  • Silly Rabbit, Cynicism Is for Losers!: In contrast to Shuka.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Takes Laala's spot as the protagonist and the main unit's Lovely idol. Also bonus as Expy Coexistence as she and Laala are friends.
  • Technicolor Eyes: While fantasizing Yui's eyes become very colorful and sparkly.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Rice. She always carries a rice cooker with her, no matter where, so that she can prepare a bowl or make onigiri at given notice.
  • Unwitting Instigator of Doom: This is the reason why Laala is locked her out of her older form when not on stage performing, where she temporary gains it back: Laala bumps with Yui, causing Takki to fall on her PriTicket, bending its corner.
  • Verbal Tic, '-yume'.

As an elementary student

  • Non-Uniform Uniform: She wears the standard uniform, but with a grade B Zettai Ryouiki pink socks.
  • Ojou Ringlets: Most of her hair is worn loose, but she wears pigtails in this shape to match her forelocks. In PriPara they grow in length.

As an idol

  • Cosmic Motifs: Mostly stars.
  • Damsel in Distress: In Idol Land, her real body is sleeping inside a barrier.
    • However, she can briefly inhabit a smaller form that emerges from Takki
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Downplayed. She have a little star in her eyes.
  • Instant Expert: Laala was genuinely impressed by her first performance.
    • Yui revealed that she practiced being an idol growing up though, given her dreams. But she has had no real training prior to it, and she was able to perform one of Laala's first songs with little to no effort.
  • Magical Girl: Her brand Fantasy Time incorporates this theme, having frilly costumes and magical-themed items or styles incorporating magical wands/rods.
    • This seems played with while changing forms in PriPara and in the Opening as well.
  • Older Alter Ego: Like so many before her, she is an elementary student and ages to that of a middle school student/teenager. As an idol she gains longer hair and is taller, but otherwise looks the same.
  • Pink Means Feminine: Her main theme color is best described as a Water Marble of pastel pink, lavender, and pale blue. The pink is dominant in most of her coords and personal items and she has girly interests. It's also worth noting the girly theme behind Fantasy Time.

Voiced by: Yo Taichi

A sporty athlete who helps out with all of the sports clubs. After being persuaded several times, she became a sporty idol to keep on helping people pursue their dreams. Her Brand is Neon Drop.

General Tropes

  • Character Catchphrase: "Full marks!".
  • Passionate Sports Girl: She's a sports enthusiast.
    • This is also reflected in her brand, Neon Drop, which features sporty outfits and accessories. One coord even features roller skates for shoes, while another is based on baseball and includes a baseball cap-style accessory and an actual baseball mitt for the hand.
    • Several outfits she wears also include shorts or pants and sneakers, practical attire for sporty types.
  • Distaff Counterpart: Idol Time's counterpart for Mirei as a Pop idol, complete with similar speech gimmicks.
  • Third-Person Person: She refers to herself in third person.
  • Verbal Tic: "ssu" and "maru".

As an elementary student

  • Boyish Short Hair: To the point that if not for her eyes, she could easily be mistaken for a boy.
  • Pintsized Powerhouse: While they aren't heavy, she was able to lift Yui, who is around her age, and the teenage Sophie onto her shoulders and carry them with no problem.

As an Idol

    Michiru Koda
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/screenshot_2_71.png

Voiced by: Yuina Yamada

A shy middle school student that has been burdened with bad luck all her life, Michiru is incited by Aroma to become an idol. She eventually debutes with the persona Miichiru, a Large Ham that claims to be the priestess of the lost continent of Pu. Her brand is Melty Lily.

  • Born Unlucky: To the point that when Aroma tells her she's cursed she believes it. Poor Michiru is constantly tripping and falling, and isn't respected at all by the rest of the cast despite being the oldest character.
  • Foil: To Aroma when she becomes her 'demonlet'. She eventually grows out of it.
  • Ironic Name: Her surname "Kouda", beans, big fortune/luck, wich is ironic as she is kind of a Butt-Monkey.
  • Madness Mantra: Her catchphrase counts as this.
  • Meaningful Name: Michiru doesn't have any specific meaning due to her name being written in hiragana, but Michiru can be roughly translated as rise, mature or much.
  • Split Personality: Most likely caused by Aroma convincing her she's a reincarnation of a priestess and princess of Pu, but her personality does a 180 into Miichiru when she goes into Pri Para. It's more complicated than that.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: To Chili, as civilians, they are Shrinking Violets, while as idols, they are vain. Naturally, their civilian forms get along with each other, while their idol forms fight and bicker.
    • Also to Sophy, who's also a Cool idol with a persona very different to her real personality off the stage.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: Cup ramen and noodles in general.

As a student:

As an Idol/Miichiru

  • Ambiguous Situation: It's up in the air whether she's actually the reincarnation of the princess of Pu. She isn't and she's fully aware Pu doesn't exist.
  • Anthropomorphic Personification: She's Michiru's Dream Jewel given form. She was formed when Michiru unintentionally hid her dream from Pakku inside of her right shoulder.
  • Character Catchphrase: "I can do it! I can do it! I can do it! I can do it! I can do it!"
  • Chuunibyou: Indeed.
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Her pupils are diamond-shaped.
  • Expository Hairstyle Change: As an idol, her hair comes loose and gets two braids at the front.
  • The Glasses Come Off: Ditches them while in PriPara, most-likely switching for contacts, considering her eyes become a deeper shade of red and her pupils become diamond-shaped.
  • Hotter and Sexier: Her songs and stage manners are this compared to the shy personality she has outside Pripara.
  • Large Ham

  • The Ace: As a member of Saints, she became a legendary idol, and now travels the world to become number one in anything she puts her mind to.

    Garara·S·Leep
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/efd26769be75cb8e430f35353024a892.jpg

Voiced by: Tomoyo Kurosawa

A mysterious, dark-clothed girl that inhabits PriPara and steals girls' dreams during their sleep. She's the one who has kept Falala in a slumber. Like her, her brand is Clock Garden.
  • Dark Is Evil: She is the one responsible for putting Falala to sleep and is willing to steal the dreams of young girls to keep her that way. Even though her sad backstory justifies that...
  • Exotic Eye Designs: Like Falala, her pupils are shaped like clock-hands, but pointing downwards.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Falala.
  • Foil: To Gaaruru. Their both hates nights because no one is there and they feel lonely, Gaaruru even said that their names sound alike and they both looked like they were evil (Garara) or mean (Gaaruru) at start.
  • Go Mad from the Isolation: She only can stay awake when Falala is sleeping, which is on night when no one is on Pripara, so she felt very lonely and along with Pakku they started stealing girl's dreams to put Falala to sleep.
  • I Just Want to Have Friends: That's why she put Falala to sleep
  • Meaningful Name: Her surname Sleep is fitting for a goddess mostly involved with dreams and the night.
  • Night and Day Duo: The night to Falala's day.
  • Supernatural Gold Eyes: Just like Falala's.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: To Janis and Gaaruru.

Voiced by: Yuki Wakai

  • Big Eater: Eats a lot of dreams...
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Looks cute, but it willingly helps Garara by eating the dreams of young girls, thus keeping Falala asleep. Again, even though its sad backstory, similar to Garara's, justifies that...
  • Mascot: A lavender tapir with a light green sleeping cap.

Powan

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/powan.png

Voiced by: Miyu Kubota

  • Mascot: A yellow dog with orange puffy ears that wears a bow on each ear and a pearl necklace.

    WITH
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/with_logo_0.png

Shogo Yumekawa

Voiced by: Seiichirō Yamashita

The older brother of Yui and the leader of WITH, the currently most popular idol group in BoyPara. Shogo is condescending and rude to Yui, but puts on a charming act in front of fans.

  • Berserk Button: Embarrassment. It's the only thing to really shut him up and angrily storm off while threatening revenge.
    • He also got really worked up when his performance was interrupted.
  • Big Brother Bully: Actually a passive-aggressive example, nastily taunting Yui about her Idol dreams. He even commented that he was embarrassed by seeing her perform on stage, despite how well she actually does.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: Yui continuously refers to him as being "two-faced", stating that nobody knows the real him. He shows himself to be a Nice Character, Mean Actor personality, in that while he comes off as polite and charming with fans, he's terribly cold and petty to his own sister.
  • Borrowed Catchphrase: After receiving more embarrassing pictures of him from Yui, he screams he Dreamily won't forgive her.
  • Embarrassing Damp Sheets: Yui pulls out a picture of him when he was younger with the implication that he was a bed wetter.
  • Hidden Depths:
    • Judging from his Jewel, Shogo is confirmed to be a lovely type idol.
    • In the drama CD track from WITH album, it was revealed that before Shogo joined WITH, he almost went overseas to Dapapur's Dan Pri. The plan didn't end well, but Koyoi and Asahi helped him getting through the problems. After that, he ended up staying on Paparajuku and joined WITH.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Jerk: In what seemed to be a moment of kindness he saved Yui after she got thrown onto the stage during his performance and fell from the stage scenery she clung to. However, he made it a publicity act to save face, then after fans went crazy he kicked Yui (literally) off of the stage.
  • Meaningful Name: Shogo means noon.
  • Sibling Rivalry: With Yui.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: He is definitely Hibiki if she was really a male. Both putting up a charming front, only to reveal to be unpleasant individuals.

Asahi Mitaka

Voiced by: Tatsuyuki Kobayashi

Koyoi Takase

Voiced by: Reiou Tsuchida

  • Hidden Depths:
    • Judging from his Jewel, Koyoi is confirmed to be a cool type idol.
    • Though Shogo is usually in the center of WITH's performances, it has been officially stated that Koyoi is the leader.
    • From WITH stage, it was revealed that Koyoi had left WITH once, when he and Asahi was on the 2nd grade of junior high. He met Shinya and Ushimitsu, and was invited to visit Yamipri. After that, he became the third member of DARK NIGHTMARE, leaving WITH and Danpri.
  • Meaningful Name: Koyoi means the evening or tonight.
  • Mellow Fellow: Very calm, and relaxed.
  • Nice Guy: To a lesser extent, but he seems to be a fairly nice guy, as he is the least to bully Yui and tries to convince Shougo, who has a beef with her, to support her as an idol.
  • Red Oni, Blue Oni: Blue to Asahi's red.
  • Trademark Favorite Food: His favorite food is Miso and his solo song from the album ALWAYS WITH YOU!!! was, in fact, about his love for misoshiru soup. The title itself, SHOW ME SO SWEET RULE, is a pun for 味噌汁 (misoshiru).

    Other Classmates

Suzu and Hana

Yui's friends who often remark on her "fantasy time" and try to keep a watch over her. Initially they didn't care about being Idols and believed it was impossible until they were inspired by Laala and Yui early on in the series. They decided to join them in PriPara to show support and were sold after one performance.

  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: They keep watch over Yui when she enters "Fantasy Time" to ensure nothing happens or make sure she doesn't end up late or forgetting anything.
  • Expy: They are the Mirei and Sophie to Yui's Laala. Suzu has Mirei's short hair and is a Pop-type who uses Candy Alamode, while Hana has longer hair and isn't as out-spoken as her friends. She also uses the Cool-type Holic Trick Classic and shares Sophie's theme color of purple.
  • Those Two Girls: For bonus points, they appear to be a Tomboy and Girly Girl duo, with Suzu having Boyish Short Hair, and Hana having a feminine face and hair style.
  • Tsundere: Hana might be one. After Suzu mentioned Yui dragged them to the tunnel to lend a hand, she responded with "Since we're here, we might as well help" while looking annoyed. However, it was clear she was really happy by the turn of events.

Mimiko Jigoku

Voiced by: Reina Ueda

  • Devilish Hair Horns: She has pigtails sticking upwards like horns, befitting her hellish appearance and evilness.
  • The Dreaded: She is feared by most of the Avocado Academy student body.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Mirei, as both are head disciplinarians of their respective schools. She is also shown lacking Mirei's empathy and is feared by other students.
  • Freudian Excuse: She had dreams of becoming an idol when she was a kid. However, when two girls bullied her due to her name and her idol dreams, she abandoned them and hated idols ever since. Eventually she made up with the two girls and became an idol.
  • Meaningful Name: Her given name Mimiko translates to "Ear child", which makes a reference to her super hearing, while her surname Jigoku translates to "Hell", given the fact she is bad news.
  • Super-Senses: She can hear everything at distances, due to having bigger ears.
  • Unusual Eyebrows: She has eyebrows shaped like track lines.

Sheep Squad

A group of Avocado Academy cheerleaders who disguise themselves in sheep costumes to sneak into BoyPara.

  • Sugar and Ice: Chiako. She is very hostile and cold openly, being compared to older intimidating men with her sharp glare. She is fairly rude towards others and often calls them "numskulls", but when truly happy, she can be a real sweetie- even if it's just for a second.
  • Tsundere: Chiako and Rui both display this attitude. Rui is a classic tsundere who claims the opposite of what she means.

    School Staff

Barbaria Okandagawa

  • Contrasting Sequel Antagonist: Gloria and Barbaria look similar and have similar personalities and are both headmasters of their respective schools, and also (initially in Gloria's case) are against others becoming idols in PriPara. However, Gloria wears purple, is a single child, and wields a vacuum, which she dubs Rina, while Barbaria wears green and wears glasses, has a brother, and wields a broom. Gloria was against elementary schoolers becoming idols, while Barbaria is currently against girls becoming idols, till she saw how much of a Determinator Yui was peforming with a broken ankle and afterwards supporting PriPara, and only banned girls being idols due to Mimiko's request.
  • Good All Along: It turns out her reasons of banning girls being idols was due to Mimiko's request.
  • Good Counterpart: Is this to Gloria, as she doesn't really have a problem with girls being idols, only doing it because of Mimiko's request.
  • Palette Swap: Of Gloria.
  • Parental Substitute: To Mimiko.

Barbario Okandagawa
