Jamal Najjar

  • Crippling Overspecialization: Jamal was a strong chef when it came to challenges, but when it came to cooking on the line he was very hit or miss.
    • Additionally, when it comes to comparing his pass performance and cooking on the line, it's clear that he was more comfortable in a leadership position.
  • Hero-Worshipper: To Nick DiGiovanni. He even used his favorite salt during a challenge.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: With Ayumu. While the two didn’t get along well at the start, they worked well in service together and Jamal clearly showed respect for Ayumu.
  • The Leader: He was often seen as this as his leadership was consistently good throughout the season.
  • Manipulative Bastard: He had his fair share of this. Perhaps the best example of this was when he turned against his team's nominations at elimination ceremony after the sixth service, nominating Michael when the team agreed on Aaron. Michael would survive however.
  • Mirror Character: To Scott from Season 12. Both were chefs who excelled in challenges and in a leadership position, but struggled a bit when it came to cooking on the line. Where they differ however is their attitudes. While Scott was a Nice Guy who never took the easy way out, Jamal was more willing to throw stronger chefs under the bus to get further ahead.
  • The Rival: To Michael, as Jamal saw him as the biggest threat and tried to get him out at any opportunity. It was more one-sided on Jamal's end though.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Back then, Jamal was consistently rude to everyone and not very pleasant. However it's clear that after his appearance on Masterchef, he grew a lot as a person, although he still had his bad moments.

Undead

  • Out of Focus: Despite making it all the way to the finale, Undead had the least screen presence out of the black jackets.
  • Took a Level in Badass: In his first season, while Undead wasn't a bad chef, he was eliminated after having a particularly terrible performance. Here, he improved quite a lot, making it all the way to the finals.

Michael Oxbig

  • Manipulative Bastard: While not to the extent of Jamal, he did have a hand in nominating Joel for the Cook For Your Life challenge as he saw Joel as a strong chef.
  • Not So Above It All: While he wasn't happy with being nominated due to Jamal, he had no qualms in trying to get rid of Joel in the Cook For Your Life challenge.
  • The Rival: To Jamal, as Jamal saw him as the biggest threat and tried to get him out at any opportunity. It was more one-sided on Jamal's end though.
  • Running Gag: With there being two Michaels in the season, the other being referred to as "Morbius", he was often paired against him.

Hal Emmerich

  • The Ace: Hal came in as the biggest threat to win out of the gate. Having a strong signature dish and being a consistently strong chef when it came to challenges and service.
    • Averted when it came to his pass performance, which was easily the weakest of the final four.

Michael Morbius

Ayumu Kodaka

  • Glass Cannon: Ayumu was a solid chef, but he was also very mistake prone in the kitchen.

Joel Fleming

Michelle Trexler

Kiibo

  • Epic Fail: His performance during steak night, where he undercooked and overcooked many steaks, along with serving raw chicken thrice. Needless to say, he was eliminated that night.

Diana Suarez

  • Crippling Overspecialization: Diana was an overall strong performer in challenges, often cooking great dishes. However, she was inconsistent in service, and showed practically no leadership abilities.
  • Epic Fail: During Charity Night, she sent twelve steaks to the dining room, all of which were completely raw, causing them all to be returned to the dining room. Needless to say Chef Ramsay was not thrilled by this.

Daisy Andrews

  • Epic Fail: Her dish during the Angie's Ingredients challenge. The chicken was raw and the potatoes were lumpy. To make matters worse, Angie berated the blue team for not dropping her dish (they had an extra member), so you could consider the entire challenge an epic fail for the entire blue team.
  • High Hopes, Zero Talent: Unfortunately Daisy seemed to lack the talent she displayed in her original season, constantly making mistakes in not only service, but the challenges especially. It all caught up to her during Cook For Your Life, where she was eliminated.
  • Picked Last: Was the last chef remaining to be picked during the finale.

Aaron Luckey

  • Achilles' Heel: Communication. He wasn't a necessarily bad line cook, but easily his biggest weakness was getting down timings. Ironically enough, once he got his timings down, it was then that he started to make cooking related mistakes on the line.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: For as little as he did, Aaron was a very strong link in challenges, coming up with several strong dishes. On the line however, Aaron was either a consistently poor performer or rather mediocre due to small mistakes that built up over time.
  • The Generic Guy: Never really stood out that much.
  • Genius Ditz: Service wise, Aaron could be a reasonable solid line cook, but what ultimately got him off on the wrong foot was his inability to get communications down.
  • Out of Focus: For someone who made it as far as he did, he certainly didn't say or do much of anything that's noteworthy.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Based on his challenge record, he easily had some talent in the kitchen. Unfortunately, his poor communication tended to muddle him down quite a bit.

Brynn Crinston

Riyonn Yumaine

  • Achilles' Heel: The meat station was this to him. Despite being a top performer in challenges and being strong on every other station, both of his performances on meat were terrible, causing his elimination.

Pory Nog

  • The Load: Pory was by far the weakest of the veterans, delivering middling performances in challenges, and becoming a consistently weak performer in service, with his awful performance on fish in episode 4 sealing his fate.

Quandale Krimp

  • The Friend Nobody Likes: Due to his awful attitude and less than impressive cooking skills, Quandale was quickly outcast by his team.
  • Hair-Trigger Temper: Quandale argued in service at pretty much the drop of a hat.
  • Hated by All: Relating to above, absolutely no one liked Quandale due to his volatile attitude.
  • High Hopes, Zero Talent: Quandale seemed destined to do well based on his first episode alone, having a good signature dish and a decent first service. After that however, he tanked hard, ultimately resulting in him being ejected mid-service.
  • Leader Wannabe: Quandale often tried to take the leadership role, but his bad performances on top of his volatile attitude resulted in his leadership flopping.
  • The Load: Quandale was an awful performer outside of his well-received signature dish, and the moment S was gone, he immediately became the weakest chef on the rookies.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: Quandale clearly saw himself as a great chef, despite his performances being rather poor.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Chefs mouthing off at Ramsay isn't a new thing, even though it's not wise. Quandale elected to go the extra mile and threaten Ramsay's daughter. That, unsurprisingly resulted in Ramsay ejecting him mid-service.
  • Weak, but Skilled: Quandale, for all his flaws, did have a well-received signature dish and a decent first service. Unfortunately for him his attitude overshadowed his contributions, and it quickly bled into services.

Scunt "S" Travey

  • Epic Fail: Really, his entire stay.
    • First was his signature dish, which was said to look like literal shot with blood in it and the mushrooms were indelibly salty. It was so bad in fact that Ramsay gave it a ZERO out of five.
    • Then there was his first service
    • In the following episode's challenge,
    • Then there was his final service, which saw him send up raw chicken four times.
  • The Load: In his brief time on the show, S was easily the weakest rookie of the season, as he never once had a good performance.
  • Medal of Dishonor: Was the first chef to get a zero out of five on the signature dish challenge.
  • Press Start to Game Over: Was nearly on the receiving end of this once Ramsay tore his signature dish apart.
  • Small Name, Big Ego: S fit this to a T. He completely believed he was the strongest chef of the season when he was easily the worst. The best example of this came in his response to Ramsay's critique of his dish, where he blamed Ramsay's palate for it tasting bad.

Betsy Bennington

  • Epic Fail: Her only service saw her mess up several times on the apps station. While that isn't bad on it's own, the fact she managed to mess up on salads and tartars (two things that aren't even cooked), on top of having communication problems, all but cemented her elimination that night.
  • High Hopes, Zero Talent: Despite scoring a five on her signature dish, she was the first eliminated.
  • No Indoor Voice: She was incredibly loud and obnoxious during her brief stay.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Her communication problems, along with her poor performance on apps, resulted in her elimination.
  • Too Much Information: She spent a rather...uncomfortable amount of time talking about her vagina.
  • Weak, but Skilled: As judged by her five out of five signature dish, Betsy did have some skill. Unfortunately, it never translated well into the kitchen.
  • We Hardly Knew Ye: She was the first to be eliminated this season.
