     Kaguya

Voiced by: Satsuki Yukino

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/3040486000_01.png
Exquisite Moon Princess

Rarity: SSR
Element: Wind
Style: Special
Weapon Specialty: Staff
Charge Attack: Moonbeam Blossom

A Primal Beast residing over fortune that is found within a bamboo by the crew, joining them after being moved by their compassion. Originated from Rage of Bahamut.

  • Adaptational Backstory Change: Besides the usage of Primal Beasts and the Astrals, much of the romantic elements of her story is nixed in favor her luck and immortality inducing skills. As a result, the motive from the "suitors" change from being in love with her into wanting immortality, wealth, and fame.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Originally part of the "Man" alignment in Rage of Bahamut, Granblue would make her a Primal Beast instead. Her human look in that game is also gone, as her Moon Princess look is capable of doubling as an Erune.
  • Berserk Button: She uncharacteristically has one whenever she hears an incident that would affect one's family, much to a greedy landlord's misfortune.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Kaguya is normally a very gentle and kind primal, but when she's mad... she gets really, really mad, as the greedy landlord in her Fate Episode learns the hard way.
Kaguya: How foolish. Your greed has pushed a mother and her child to the brink of death... UNFORGIVABLE.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Her third skill is named Lightning Rebuke, which is appropriately named from her disapproval of the landlord's greed and her retribution via lighting.
  • Immortality Inducer: One of her few powers include expanding one's life, which tends to be a magnet of trouble of its own.
  • Lady Luck: As the Primal Beast of Fortune, she has the ability to imbue great fortune and longetivity. Mess with her and her button too far and she can bring "fortune" to you through lightning.
  • Shrinking Violet: The lack of social interactions in her past naturally makes her hesitant on meeting others, which she turns into a stone form for comfortability.
  • Who Wants to Live Forever?: Kaguya uses her powers to expand her parents' lives, but this only causes their suffering to be prolonged and seeing everyone else going away makes them not want immortality either.

     Lich

Voiced by: Karin Takahashi

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/npc_zoom_3040357000_01.png
The Corpse King
Halloween Version
Rarity: SSR
Element: Dark, Wind (Halloween ver.)
Style: Special
Weapon Specialty: Staff
Charge Attack: Bad End, Halloween Scream End (Halloween ver.)

A primal that has lost a lot of her power and now travels the sky to reclaim it. Spending years as a Tier 2 raid, Lich is now playable as a Dark Grand character.

  • Achilles' Heel: In a huge contrast to the majority of characters, debuff removal is actually detrimental to her, as it neuters her immense damage potential from her Ghostly March attack that counts the debuffs on the party.
  • Back from the Dead: Her Cursed Spirit skill allows her to revive at full HP when she is killed, at the cost of permanently sapping her HP and charge bar every turn.
  • Breaking Old Trends: Before Lich, Grand Units were Main Story Characters (like Katalina and Rackam), characters important in anniversary events or the games overarching lore (like Europa and Mugen), or highly popular characters (like Jeanne and Narmaya), and even Poseideon, who also broke that trend, had relevance in two story events before becoming a Grand unit. Lich, however, is only notable for being a Tier 2 raid. That said, the playable version of Lich doesn't even have that as her fate episodes reveal that the raid boss is an incarnation of her power that had gotten away from her long ago, essentially becoming an entirely separate character.
  • The Cameo: "Boneby" cameos in her uncap art and in her "Cursed Spirit" skill icon.
  • Cast Herd: Her fate episodes associate her with the main story Primals Rosetta and Yggdrasil. Apparently, she and Rosetta go way back.
  • Casting a Shadow: She is a Primal with power over the Dark-element.
  • Creepy Good: As the others say, Lich's natural demeanor and personality is creepy, but she's not evil.
  • De-power: Lich, in a depressed stupor, somehow caused "Boneby" (the primal fought as a raid) to come into existance and lost a lot of her power as a result.
  • Dub Name Change: Her Charge Attack name was renamed from Dead Bad End in Japanese to Bad End in English.
  • The Gadfly: Sometimes says or does things simply because she finds it funny, such as blushing and acting surprised upon being given Valentine's Day candy before laughing and asking, "So? Did you think I'd fallen for you?" Rosetta implies that this has been a bad habit of hers for a long, long time.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: Her fate episodes claim that she lost a lot of her power when "Boneby" manifested and escaped with it. This isn't reflected in gameplay, however, as she was one of the strongest Dark units in the game on release.
  • Gender Flip: From a real-world perspective, she's one of the raid Primal Beast and summon Lich, albeit with a more humanoid form than the bony abomination the players were previously introduced to. Lore-wise, however, she predates the Primal Beast as it is an incarnation of her dark power.
  • Hikikomori: In a Played for Laughs example, she uses terms like "normies" to describe people and actively plays up the stereotype of a hikikomori as an introverted, awkward loner. She jokingly mentions arriving at Rosetta's island to get her help to recover Boneby, only to find that she "was on some coed pleasure cruise".
  • Inseries Nickname: She prefers to be referred to as "Lichi".
  • Love Hurts: A century ago, Lich fell in love with a man named James, who loved her back, but due to her powers as a primal beast, she always refused to kiss him. James would eventually die in a carriage accident, forcing Lich to kiss him and transform him into Boneby... at least that's how Lich told it at first before Rosetta made her tell the real story. In reality, James turned Lich down and married a different woman, and the heartbreak caused Boneby's creation and Lich's loss of power.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: The opening of her dress shows off her cleavage and keeps going down to her navel.
  • The Nicknamer: She refers to the Raid Boss and summon Lich as "Boneby". She also calls Rosetta "Rose" and Yggdrasil "Ygg". Lyria is "Lyrichi".
  • Promoted to Playable: Averted Trope, as she's not the Lich that the players know and acts as a substitute for him as a playable Grand unit.
  • Spam Attack: Her Ghostly March passive unleashes an attack on all enemies at the end of the enemy's turn that increases her charge bar by 5%, with the hit count and charge bar granted increasing up to 10 times based on the number of debuffs on all allies. Considering her second skill inflicts four debuffs on the party that are rendered completely harmless by her first skill, she's going to fire off the maximum amount very easily every turn, letting her spam her charge attack that reduces her skill cooldowns by a turn, which in turn, enables Lich to just keep on firing away with impunity.
  • Status Effects: Like her raid fight and summon version, she inflicts Poison and Putrefied on both friend and foe with her Corruption skill, but her Phantom Pain skill gives Light Switch to all allies, making all element damage from the enemy deal light damage for five turn, as well as granting Death's Grace to let the party heal off of the self-inflicted ailments.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: As a playable unit she's this to the raid boss and summon Lich in all but appearance. That said, her fate episodes justify this by saying that she's the actual Primal Beast Lich while the summon and raid boss is merely an incarnation of her power that had gotten away from her.

     Macula Marius

Voiced by: Sakura Tange

Please forgive me, dear nature... Just a little longer. The day will come when all can coexist in harmony, I know it...

Frost Protector
Summer Appearance (Summon)
Rarity: SSR
Element: Water
Style: Special
Weapon Specialty: Staff
Charge Attack: Jotunheim

Originates from Rage of Bahamut. A primal beast of ice and cold who has been punishing mortals all her life for their crimes against nature, but when the crew offers her a new alternative to life, she joins them to explore this new path.

  • Alliterative Name: Macula Marius
  • An Ice Person: Her primary powers.
  • Badass Cape: Her long and colorful cape on her initial artwork.
  • The Cameo: Marcula appears in "Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies" as one of the primals that helped Nezha defeat Azi Dahaka at the climax of the Astral War.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: More like someone who left the fridge open and unplugged in front of an oven. She first appears ready to kill Lyria and the captain and ends up being a Cuddle Bug the following day.
  • Expy: She comes from Rage of Bahamut, though Granblue Fantasy expands on her more here than her origin game did.
  • Gaia's Vengeance: Played with. She freezes those who would dare to harm nature, but Lyria notices that she doesn't kill them outright. It's revealed that she actually detests hurting people, especially kind ones, since she reasons that they too are part of mother nature's creations.
  • Harmless Freezing: Lyria notes that her frozen victims still has warmth in them. Her summer version summon does this as well, temporarily freezing fire enemies for a few turns but doesn't deal damage over time.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: Her outfits usually have a plunging neckline that goes down to her stomach.
  • Power Floats: Complete with Midair Bobbing, she floats in her default sprite animation.
  • Promoted to Playable: She was a raid boss and an obtainable summon first before becoming a playable character in April 2019.
  • The Tease: Her Summon's Swimsuit Version has lines that are very suggestive. For example, her line in Grand Blues! Comic #1105 is this:
Come and plunge into my bossom if you seek to cool down.

     Magus

Voiced by: Nanako Mori

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/npc_zoom_3040517000_01.png
Demoness in Tree Shade
Rarity: SSR
Element: Dark
Style: Special
Weapon Specialty: Staff
Charge Attack: Malleus Doloris
A co-op antagonist and the final boss of the co-op stages. Tied to the "What Makes The Sky Blue" lore, Magus was one of the original Primal Beasts known as an Origin Beast, who assisted her master, the Demon King Astaroth, in his bid to claim dominion over the Astral Realm. His plans would fail and he would meet his end at Lucifer's hands, followed by Magus (and his remains) being sealed away in Pandemonium as punishment. To this day, she still carries a grudge against him and is plotting to enact her revenge, and her master's resurrection, once she escapes her imprisonment. Her Demon God Astaroth appearance originates from Rage of Bahamut.
  • Adaptational Species Change: From "demon" in Rage of Bahamut to fallen angel or Origin Beast in Granblue Fantasy.
  • And I Must Scream: They were left to rot in Pandemonium for over two millennia as a punishment for their participation in the origin beast rebellion.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: Demon God Astaroth's final form is huge. That said, she can just as easily appear the size of a normal person.
  • Artifact Title: Demon God Astaroth retains her title from Rage of Bahamut despite the fact that she is a fallen angel or Origin Beast in this universe.
  • The Bus Came Back: Magus makes a return in "The Heart of the Sun" after being absent since her introduction in Co-Op mode.
  • Back from the Dead: "Heart of the Sun" would reveal that Magus did actually perish when Pandemonium collapsed, although she was revived by Phoenix afterwards in a failed bid to manipulate her for its own ends. She's currently trying to invoke this with her master Astaroth, both during and after the events of "Heart of the Sun."
  • Composite Character: Astaroth has been split into two characters since the "Heart of the Sun" event. Magus and Demon God Astaroth are now the same person, with "Demon God" Astaroth being regarded as an alternate form of Magus, and "Demon King" Astaroth as the true and only Astaroth that Magus is trying to resurrect. In Rage of Bahamut, all three of these characters were the same person in different forms.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Almost every word that comes out of Magus's mouth is some form of snark directed at whoever she's talking to.
  • Did You Actually Believe...?: Says this almost word for word to Raziel when she interprets Raziel offering to work with her as a request for her help to resurrect Lucifer, her enemy. Still, she’s taken aback when Raziel declares that she will still share with her any information about resurrection that she discovers, with the ending implying that Magus may reconsider helping her later.
  • Enemy Mine:
    • In the finale of "Heart of the Sun," she agrees to fight alongside the Captain (and Sandalphon, Raziel, and Seofon) despite previously wanting them dead after a brief argument with Cagliostro, deciding she'll put in the effort to avoid dying a second time in the face of Phoenix's attempts to destroy the world.
    • She still openly despises the Singularity and all of their comrades, but she decides to join the crew after realizing she can't resurrect Astaroth on her own. Much to her surprise, they actually let her join the crew with little protest, because, while they don't agree with her desire to resurrect Astaroth, they understand it, as does Raziel, because there is someone else they want to see brought back.
  • Evil Counterpart: To Raziel in "Heart of the Sun." Raziel is an archangel, and Magus is a fallen angel. Both employ magic, but Raziel's element is light whereas Magus' magic is dark. Raziel is a Nice Girl, while Magus is a Deadpan Snarker. Both also embarked on a mission to resurrect their deceased loved ones using Phoenix's tears. It is acknowledged in the event that the two are very similar, with Raziel openly sympathizing with Magus and her goal, though it's unclear whether Magus truly reciprocated or was simply attempting to manipulate her.
  • Excuse Plot: References to her mission to resurrect Astaroth and that being the reason she joins the crew aside, a good portion of her fate episodes were just an excuse to justify her first playable unit being a swimsuit unit.
  • Final Boss: She is the final boss of the Pandemonium segment of Co-op mode, accompanied by her master, the Demon King Astaroth.
  • Fusion Dance: At the final stage of the Throes of Death, Demon King Astaroth and Magus merge together to form Demon God Astaroth. However, "Heart of the Sun" would reveal that Demon God Astaroth is still just Magus wholesale in a higher form, as she wasn't able to truly resurrect the "Demon King" Astaroth prior to merging with him. She can still assume her Demon God form within her Pocket Dimension, though.
  • Genre Savvy: She's very quick to catch onto Phoenix's attempts to manipulate her after it revives her following her death during Pandemonium's collapse, piecing together its very flimsy reasoning for desiring death, how there was no reason to bring her back unless it wanted something out of her, AND that it planned to kill the Singularity via causing the Diviners to target them, all for the purpose of sparking a second War between the Sky and Astral realms and ending the entire world to be reborn anew. That being said, the epilogue of "Heart of the Sun" implies it wasn't quite as malicious as she expected...
  • Horned Humanoid: Befitting her image as the "Demon God".
  • Horrible Judge of Character: She despised the ever-kind and supportive Lucifer even before he killed Astaroth because she saw him as competition and wanted to outperform him to impress Astaroth, but she is in love with Astaroth, who was strongly implied by her own words to have mistreated her.
  • Ignored Enamored Underling: The way she talks about Astaroth implies that she was mistreated by him while he was alive, but she still loved him and wants to resurrect him.
  • Ineffectual Sympathetic Villain: Her desire to resurrect Astaroth is sympathetic in the story because of her love for him, but she is ineffectual because every attempt she has made to avenge or revive him has failed. She attempted to kill Lucifer and was cast into Pandemonium; She challenged the Singularity and not only failed, but was killed when Pandemonium collapsed; the Phoenix used her while dangling a carrot in the form of a tear that could resurrect him, only to leave without giving her anything; and when she sought another way to resurrect him, all she found were rumors and myths spread by Skydwellers. In the end, she was forced to give up on her search alone and join her enemies so that they could find the key to resurrection together.
  • I Will Find You: Her primary motive is to resurrect her long-dead master, the Demon King Astaroth, who'd been felled by Lucifer centuries ago. She still has no plans of letting up during the events of "Heart of the Sun," planning on using Phoenix's tears to resurrect him properly after her previous failed attempt in Pandemonium.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: Very downplayed. She's snarky, ill-tempered, and doesn't see the point in helping Skydwellers. As well, she only joins the crew to find a way to resurrect Astaroth, a threat to the Sky Realm, after realizing she couldn't do it alone. However, her love for Astaroth is genuine, and there are hints that she isn't all bad, with her Fate Episodes implying that she only acts the way she does because she is used to being mistreated by others and being alone. Her mask begins to slip as she experiences genuine enthusiasm and is treated with kindness by Raziel and the rest of the crew.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Similarly to Olivia, she's not only currently unaware of the fact that Lucifer is dead, she also doesn't know that he was not their enemy and didn't lock them away under the order of the Astrals. "Heart of the Sun" reveals that Magus knows that Lucifer is dead now, however, which she throws in Sandalphon’s face.
  • Know When to Fold 'Em: After her first attempt to kill Phoenix falls completely flat, she wisely abstains from any further attempts to capture it, knowing full well that it was powerful enough to kill her in an instant if it felt like it.
  • The Magnificent: "Demon King" Astaroth and "Demon God" Astaroth.
  • Mystical White Hair: Demon God Astaroth has this like her Rage Of Bahamut counterpart.
  • One-Winged Angel: After her fusion with the incomplete Demon King Astaroth, Magus is able assume the form of Demon God Astaroth.
  • Reformed, but Not Tamed: Downplayed; She joins the crew in order to have a better chance of resurrecting Astaroth, and while she still despises everyone, she's become tame enough to not actively antagonize or try to kill anyone because she, once again, needs their help to complete her mission. That being said, she's still stubborn and mean, and she gives the cold shoulder to Raziel, despite Raziel being the person who most likely has the best shot at helping her achieve her goal because she doesn't want to help her resurrect her enemy, Lucifer.
  • Revenge: Similarly to Sandalphon and Olivia, Magus had been plotting her escape and revenge against Lucifer for millennia, as well as the resurrection of her deceased master, Demon King Astaroth. According to her NPC profile, she attempted to exact revenge on him in the past and failed, resulting her being sealed in Pandemonium in the first place.
  • Parental Neglect: Of a sort. She snarks at the Diviners that she's functionally their mother due to being their creator and blatantly says she doesn't care about them, though they're still hardly parent and child in a conventional sense and the Diviners don't think much of her themselves.
  • Pocket Dimension: She can create a large pocket of voidspace known as the Voidspace Al Kawn, in which she can both trap opponents and assume her empowered Demon God Astaroth form.
  • Promoted to Playable: She was made playable in the Flash Gala following part 3 of "Heart of the Sun" as a summer unit.
  • Sequential Boss: Upon entering their raid, the player fights Magus, followed by Demon King Astaroth, and then Demon God Astaroth, who is the product of a Fusion Dance between Magus and Demon King Astaroth.
  • Undying Loyalty: Loyal to Astaroth to a fault, and only decides to join the crew so she can have a better chance at finding a way to resurrect him.
  • Unknown Rival: Magus was one to Lucifer, wanting to prove her superiority over him in order to impress Astaroth, but Lucifer treated her as kindly as anyone else he interacted with and did not acknowledge or notice that she saw him as a rival.
  • Villain: Exit, Stage Left: After the finale of "Heart of the Sun," she takes the chance to scram when everyone else is preoccupied with Fenie's resurrection, even if she does claim to simply want to sightsee in the modern world after being imprisoned for so long.
  • Voice of the Legion: Demon God Astaroth sounds like this, being the voices of both Demon King Astaroth and Magus.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: She (and by extension, Astaroth) isn't mentioned or seen at all over the course of the "What Makes The Sky Blue" storyline despite being a fallen angel who participated in the origin beast rebellion and plotting to take revenge on Lucifer. Unlike Olivia and Azazel, she didn't even receive a cameo appearance in "000". It would be until the "Heart of the Sun" event that Magus would be introduced into an event story.

     Medusa

Voiced by: Kaori Mizuhashi

I am Medusa, the proud primal beast who can turn anyone to stone with just a glance! Hee-hee... And my friend here is Medusiana, a gigantic serpent of fearsome might! Now tremble in fear, mortals!
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/granblue_medusa_regular.png
Sorceress with a Petrifying Gaze
Promo Version
Valentine Version
Summer Version
Rarity: SSR
Element: Earth, Fire (Summer ver.)
Style: Attack (Promo ver.), Balanced (Premium Draw and Valentine ver.), Defense (Summer ver.)
Weapon Specialty: Melee, Staff+Melee (Summer ver.)
Charge Attack: Petrifying Stare (Promo ver.), Supreme Medusiana, Magically Delicious Medusa (Valentine ver.), Medusiana Slider (Summer ver.)

A Primal Beast from the Lumacie Archipelago, she tried to terrify the crew but somehow ended up joining them instead. Like the majority of the Primal Characters, she originated from Rage of Bahamut.

  • Adaptational Species Change: She was a "Demon" in the Rage of Bahamut universe. Upon being brought over in Granblue Fantasy, she was made a "Primal Beast" instead, which is essentially a God-like being.
  • The Aloner: In her original fate episodes (Linksmate, Valentine's), she traveled alone with Medusiana being her only companion prior to joining the crew. That is until her "Primal Resonance" appearance where from there onwards it's established that she's been longtime friends with Baal, Satyr, and Nezha as a part of the "Primal Pals".
  • Arson, Murder, and Jaywalking: When Freyr appears in front of Medusa after having fought a now-injured Baal, it sends her into a fit of rage causing this line to come up.
Medusa: All I know is you hurt Baal, and that's reason enough to tear you apart! You, Geo, and your dumb hair!
Geo: Oh my, such strong words...
  • Art Evolution: The "regular" version of Medusa introduced on 2019 shows some noticeable improvements compared to her initial, Linksmate version, most of which is on the color shading.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: The youngest of the Gorgon Sisters.
  • Belligerent Sexual Tension: With Baal.
  • Big "NO!": Lets out one in "Primal Resonance" just as Geo assimilates the cores of her sisters.
  • Big Sister Worship: She adores her sisters Stheno and Euryale.
  • Boobs-and-Butt Pose: As seen in her promo version's initial art, based on her card from Rage of Bahamut. Subverted in her regular gacha version's art, as Medusa tilts forward a bit to showcase her hips instead.
  • Bribing Your Way to Victory: To get her original version, either register a Japanese Linksmate phone data plan, which is only available to those living in Japan, or amass enough gold moons to buy a Siero ticket to unlock her. Her Valentine version isn't subject to this, being a Valentine’s day seasonal character. And in May of 2019, she did finally get a standard gacha SSR version.
  • The Cameo: In the background of Satyr's Summer-themed summon, one could see swimsuit-clad versions of Athena and Medusa.
  • Cast Herd: She's one of the founding members of the Primal Pals group along with Satyr, Baal, and Nezha and almost always shows up with them.
  • Cute Little Fangs: While they are not easily noticeable due to their small size, Medusa has fangs for being a snake creature. A close-up shot of an enraged Medusa in "Primal Resonance" reveals four of them perfectly.
  • A Day in the Limelight: She's the lead character of "Primal Resonance" and the event, alongside her long-awaited standard SSR version, helps expand on her character significantly.
  • Determinator: Searched for her sisters for countless centuries just so she could see them again. And fought tooth and nail against Geo to get their cores back.
  • Deadly Gaze: Just like in Classical Mythology, she has the ability to pertify others with her gaze. In-game, this is depicted as beams of light which also come from her snake hairs.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Her element.
  • Everything's Better with Sparkles: Her Valentine's outfit is full of these as she based it on Sugar Time: Love and Passion, an In-Universe toyline marketed towards little girls.
  • Expy: Played With; From Linksmate to her Valentine's unit appearance, she was essentially just Rage of Bahamut Medusa copy-pasted into the Granblue Fantasy universe with slight adjustments to what she is (turned from a "Demon" into a Primal Beast which is a God-like being) to make her fit into the new setting. It wasn't until "Primal Resonance" that there would be more done to her to better integrate her into the world, such as connecting her to existing primals such as Satyr, Baal, and Nezha.
  • Eye Beams: She uses these to turn others into stone. They also act as normal attack beams.
  • Fantastic Racism: Initially seems to look down on mortals and the idea of Primal Beasts associating with them until she joins the crew herself. Even then, she denies actually being friends with them.
  • Friendship Denial: Even though she doesn't want to personally admit it, Medusa has already made friends with the Grandcypher's crew. When she denies this relationship in "Primal Resonance", the others used this as an opportunity to make fun of her Tsundere trait.
  • Gorgeous Gorgon: Like her Fanservice-fueled Rage of Bahamut incarnation, she still retains this design, but her artworks for Granblue tend to upgrade her voluptuous curves.
  • Hartman Hips: Medusa is curvaceous, as seen on the Boobs-and-Butt Pose initial arts of her Promo and Regular gacha versions.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Has fangs and some sort of a tail.
  • Medusa: While an import from Rage of Bahamut, she is the Granblue Fantasy equivalent of the mythological figure.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Her first SSR art being a Boobs-and-Butt Pose plus her signature Shaking the Rump animation makes her this.
  • No Indoor Voice: She is very loud, to the point that Baal would always bring up, hate and mock this trait of hers several times in "Primal Resonance".
  • Out-of-Context Eavesdropping: When she eavesdrops on the girls chatting about Valentine's Day and hears Io's remark about how "looks [of the chocolates] are important too.", she assumes that meant everyone has to dress up in fancy clothes for the occasion.
  • Pint-Sized Powerhouse: Is very short and along with her sisters, she was said to be an incredibly formidable primal beast.
  • Pet Monstrosity: She is accompanied by her giant pet snake, Medusiana.
  • Playing with Fire: Despite being an Earth-element Primal, she received a Summer unit in Fire. Her attacks still refer back to her Earth-based powers, such as her ability to turn others to stone temporarily.
  • Pointy Ears: She has these, though they're often hidden by her long hair.
  • Promoted to Playable: Was originally a summon and a raid battle boss. She was made playable, albeit initially only in Japan.
  • Retraux Flashback: While the "Primal Resonance" event features Medusa's updated SSR artwork from the gacha version, the sepia-filtered flashback scenes of her younger days make use of her initial promo version's artwork instead.
  • Reused Character Design: Only one of her units thus far has a Granblue Fantasy original design as shown in her swimsuit unit.
  • Sadly Mythcharacterized: Though oweing a lot to her original Rage of Bahamut portrayal, Granblue Fantasy Medusa is a short Tsundere with long, pale lavender hair that can transform into snakes at will. While she can still turn people into stone, it doesn't happen whenever someone looks into her eyes and she can choose to do it with her Eye Beams. She is associated with Athena, but not for the reasons she was in the myth, as Athena was tasked with hunting her because of her curse. They eventually manage to become friends.
  • Satellite Character: Her plot relevance in the "Primal Resonance" event has something to do with her sisters' cores. In her new "regular" version's uncap artwork, Medusa's sisters even appear alongside her.
    • Medusa's sisters, who at this point are plot devices and a goal for Medusa to work toward reuniting with and not actual characters yet.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Subverted. Her back is exposed in some of her Rage of Bahamut artworks, but when she is imported into Granblue, her official artworks make her poses that attempt to hide this, yet her exposed back is still somehow visible. Averted in her Valentine's version as she wears a uniform.
  • Shaking the Rump: Whether she readies a skill or her charge attack, she will be doing this. Her normal playable and summon art also calls attention to it (by letting her show it off to the player's point of view alongside a "tail-swaying" motion), making it her best known trait among fans.
  • Ship Tease: With Baal in "Primal Resonance" courtesy of Satyr pointing out their relationship Like an Old Married Couple.
Satyr: Aww, Meddy... You know you love him.
  • The Napoleon: Is short and seems to have a short temper to go along with it, but it mostly lends itself to her Tsundere nature and inability to be honest with her true feelings.
  • There Was a Door: She frequently ignores doors on the Grandcypher when making her entrance bursting through walls or ceilings, leading Vyrn to complain about how she'll eventually break the ship if she keeps this up.
  • True Companions: Her "Primal Pals" alongside Nezha, Baal, and Satyr.
  • Tsundere: Type A. Nezha deadpan calls her out as this during "Primal Resonance", and she is not amused, to say the least. Even an event trophy is explicitly named "Tsssundere" to mock Medusa's defining characteristic.
  • The Speechless: Medusiana doesn't speak.
  • Uniqueness Value: Blood-related Primal Beast "siblings" are a very rare occurence, which is why Geo is so keen on having Medusa, Euryale and Stheno to himself in "Primal Resonance".
  • Vitriolic Best Buds: She can barely talk to Baal without it turning into a sniping contest.

Primarch of Fire
NPC Art
Summon Version
Rarity: SSR
Element: Fire
Style: Attack
Weapon Specialty: Sabre
Charge Attack: Ignis Iudicium

The primarch of Fire. Her valor goes beyond normal bravery, and her leadership qualities are second only to Lucifer. She empathizes with skydwellers, bearing an attitude of cooperation.

  • A Day in the Limelight: She finally gets her own time to shine in "The Magnificent Mole Troupe". While the event also touches on Sariel and Azrael, Michael is the main character of this event.
  • Affectionate Nickname: Gabriel refers to her as "Mika-chan". Belial also refers to her the same way, though that one is less affectionate.
  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: This is her role in the Four Primarchs raid, being the last phase of the raid, she goes all out on offensive attacks to destroy the raid quickly (not to mention the raid will most likely still be reeling from Gabriel's torment of debuffs and ailments).
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: One of the outfits she dons in the theatre is a dashing white suit.
  • Combat Pragmatist: She immediately tries to shoot Belial with Eugen's rifle the moment he becomes vulnerable.
  • Contralto of Strength: She sports quite the deep voice to match her tough and valorous nature.
  • Cool Sword: The Sword of Michael contains her power, and is one of the Seraphic Weapons the player can forge.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: "The Magnificent Mole Troupe" event showed that, unlike her fellow Primarchs, who more or less figured out what they're gonna do after relinquishing their roles in the world, Michael has the hardest time fitting in with the new world. Since then, she's been bouncing from one job to another without being any closer to figuring out what to do with her life.
  • Dual Wielding: Wields a spear and a sword.
  • Elemental Embodiment: She is the embodiment of the element of fire, a trait that is shared by Wilnas of the Six Dragons.
  • Gender-Blender Name: Michael may be a masculine name, but she is a woman.
  • Hair Wings: Her hair appears to be made up entirely of wings.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: She trusted Belial enough to share information with him, after all.
  • It's Personal: Besides Sandalphon, she has the biggest beef with Belial, due to his reveal that she was the information pipeline he relied on to help the rebellion and his successful attempt at fleeing her wrath.
  • My Greatest Failure: Being the superior of the Archangels of Instruction, she still feels guilty for what happened to Azrael and Israfel. "The Magnificent Mole Troupe" touches on this.
  • Mystical White Hair: Has white hair shaped like wings.
  • Not So Above It All: Despite her tough and serious nature, her response to Stan saving her life with his dragon blood in "What Makes The Sky Blue" is to squeeze him against her chest while ruffling his hair. Needless to say, Aliza is NOT amused when she sees this. She's also quite fond of mortals more than she'd admit, and Gabriel loves to tease her about it.
  • Number Two: She is essentially this to Lucifer, the Supreme Primarch. While they all answer to him, she is seen as a secondary leader to the archangels after him. As well, during their time working with the Astrals, she worked under Lucifer as his adjutant per Belial's recommendation.
  • Out of Focus: Along with the other tetra-element Primarchs, her role become lesser and lesser as the "What Makes The Sky Blue" storyline progresses, to the point where she doesn’t show up in The Maydays or Tower of Babyl, which are both direct continuations of the story. Sandalphon even makes up an excuse for why she and the other primarchs can’t be of any help to them in Tower of Babyl.
    • That said, she's the first one of the Primarchs (aside from Sandalphon) to get an event dedicated to her own self.
  • Promoted to Playable: She got added to the character pool as a Grand character during the December 31, 2022 Premium Gala update, coinciding with her being the main focus in "The Magnificent Mole Troupe".
  • Taking the Bullet: She stands directly in the way of Avatar Belial's attack initially directed at Sandalphon, so she can give him the wings of the other Primarchs to power him up enough to take on Belial.
  • The Mentor: She’s this to Shiva, though they have yet to be shown interacting onscreen. Interestingly, she isn’t alluded to in Shiva’s fate episodes, unlike the other primarchs to their disciples who at least get a passing mention.
  • The Only One Allowed to Defeat You: She initially tries to stall her allies during their second encounter with the corrupted Fallen Angel form of Azrael and Israfel, claiming that she should take over the responsibility as an atonement for her negligence over the previously missing archangels.
"My motives are partly selfish. I can't allow anyone else to kill her."
  • Tomboy and Girly Girl: Of herself and Gabriel, she’s clearly more the more masculine Primarch in terms of personality which translates to her speech and mannerisms, as well as her manner of dress.
  • Undying Loyalty: She’s shown to be as loyal to Lucifer as Sandalphon is, though without the romantic undertones. She initially doesn’t go easy on Sandalphon when it comes to him acting as Lucifer’s replacement, though she lets up over time when he proves himself capable of handling the role.
  • Unwitting Pawn: She was used by Belial to further Lucilius' goals, much to her dismay as she respected and trusted him greatly.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: While all four of the tetra-element primarchs are Out of Focus, she and Raphael are the most so, as neither of them have done anything since "What Makes The Sky Blue: 000", with it being up in the air what they've been up to since they retired their roles to nature. In contrast, Uriel showed up in Alexiel (Summer)'s fate episodes still acting as her mentor, while Gabriel showed up briefly in "Kappa Summer Chronicle" and later Europa's fate episodes where she determines if it would be right to leave her disciple in the protagonists hands. That said, Gabriel does briefly imply that Michael's also around in one of her "Kappa Summer Chronicle" blurbs.
    • She is the only mentor of a disciple to have little involvement in her student's story after being tied to them in their raid battle, as Shiva doesn't mention her at all outside of his raid. It's unknown if she's still even meant to be considered his mentor since his character seems heavily independent from hers.

Goddess Triumvirate
Rarity: SSR
Element: Wind
Style: Special
Weapon Specialty: Staff
Charge Attack: Triad Wings

A trio of battle goddesses.

  • Attack Reflector: They're able to grant partial damage reflection to the whole party with their Nemain skill. In their incarnation as a raid boss, Nemain lets them reflect 100% of any damage taken, which will kill any character that uses a damaging skill on (or even just attacks) them.
  • Blessed with Suck: The people they bless gain great power and become legendary heroes, but will never find rest, going from battlefield to battlefield until they ultimately fall. The last man they granted their power to died cursing them despite what they did for him, because even with all of his fame and achievements, all he wanted was to see his family again. They've been confused about their mission ever since, pondering what makes family great enough to want to discard honor and glory for it.
  • Blood Knight: Given their namesake, it’s not all too surprising that they enjoy bloodshed. This even extends to their allies, as their skills immediately come off cooldown if an ally gets knocked out.
  • Blow You Away: They are introduced as Primals with power over Wind.
  • The Chooser of the One: It's what they do: they seek out individuals of strong valor, and make them into heroes. Sadly, it's not as great as it sounds...
  • Color-Coded Characters: The three sisters all wear different color dresses. Badb wears white, Macha wears red and Nemain wears blue.
  • The Dividual: This trio of primals isn't seen individually as separate characters. "Morrigna" is a term that they use to refer to themselves as a collective.
  • Dub Name Change: In Japanese, their unit is called "Badb Catha", based on the youngest sisters name and the war goddess. In the translation, they’re called by their collective title, "Morrigna". Additionally, Nemain was named "Morrigan" in Japanese, which was likely changed due to avoid confusion with the changed unit name.
  • Glass Cannon: Their second skill, Bua, turns anyone on the team except themselves into this. Bua grants a 30% boost to their attack, a 20% boost to their damage cap, and also granting them guaranteed triple attacks, for a permanent duration to boot, with the caveat being a very hefty 70% reduction to their defenses. However, their third skill, Nemain, grants a Repel buff as well as Other Self (dodge all attacks) to the party member with Bua, letting them mitigate this slightly.
  • Lady of War: Their shtick, going along with their namesake.
  • Sibling Team: A team of 3 female primal sisters named Babd, Macha and Nemain.
  • Promoted to Playable: Following the pattern of most of the playable primals, they were originally a raid boss, then a gacha summon and then promoted to playable during the May 2019 Flash gala.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?: Essentially the core of their story. As primals created for a specific purpose, they have a hard time understanding things outside of it, and have been trying to figure out things that don't involve war and glory. They slowly learn, notably refusing to accord their power to the previous hero's descendant even as he begs them to, to save him from suffering the same fate of abandoning his own new family.
  • Winged Humanoid: All three have their own set of wings. However, unlike some of the other examples of this trope that appear on the page, they aren't Primarchs.

Desiring Warrior God
Yukata Version
Rarity: SSR
Element: Wind, Fire (Yukata)
Style: Attack
Weapon Specialty: Spear
Charge Attack: Flamelance: Accendo, Flamelance: Exprimo (Yukata)

One of the "primal pals" alongside Medusa, Baal and Satyr. Once known as a warrior among primal beasts, Nezha became acquainted with the gorgon sisters after he was saved by Euryale and Stheno. Ever since, his battle-hungry attitude was softened as his interest in mortal culture grew.

  • Assist Character: In a Scripted Battle of "Primal Resonance", the fight against Zaoshen starts off with Nezha unleashing his Summon Call, taking out a chunk of the boss HP, and as a Revenge to the beast who defeated him earlier.
  • Balance Buff: He received his EMP passive in January 2023, which granted him up to 3 levels of Divine Might at the start of battle, which significantly reduced his ramp up time. He would later receive a rebalance in the 9th Anniversary update, buffing his second skill to now provide Bonus Damage to the party at 5 stacks of Divine Might, and reworking his second passive to only require Primal allies to just be present in the party. Depending on how many Primal allies are present (including Nezha himself), Nezha can outright pierce Fire resistance, gain a boost to ATK, deal triple attacks, and gain boosted DEF and charge bar gain. The buffs (particularly the "pierce Fire resistance" part) now take him from a weird gimmicky wet noodle to an actually viable and powerful bruiser.
  • Beetle Maniac: He used to collect bugs as a hobby, but traded that for reading books.
  • Blood Knight: Nothing gets him fired up than a good fight, and has been called a "battle maniac" by his pals at least once. It's all but said that Baal and Medusa met him in a fight.
  • Blow You Away: He is a Wind-element based Primal, though he has some control over Fire as well.
  • Bookworm: He's become more knowledgeable about mortal culture than his fellow "primal pals" through books.
  • The Cameo: He cameos in Summer Medusa's uncap art alongside Baal and Satyr.
  • Cast Herd: He's one of the founding members of the Primal Pals group along with Medusa, Baal, and Satyr and almost always shows up with them.
  • Lampshade Hanging: Of all people, Nezha is the one who points out Medusa's defining trait.
Nezha: She's what mortals call a tsundere.
  • Not So Stoic: While he sports a calm and silent demeanor for most of the time, Nezha's fight against Zaoshen reveals that he can be Laughing Mad, sporting an unusual smile when in the climax of a battle.
  • Playingwith Fire: While he's primarily a Wind-based Primal, he has some control over Fire which is incorporated into his kit.
  • Promoted to Playable: He finally became a playable character during the April 19, 2021 Flash Gala update.
  • Scarf of Asskicking: He wears a tattered blue scarf around his neck.
  • Taken for Granite: Was turned to stone by Geo, who is controlling Euryale's and Stheno's powers.
  • Violation of Common Sense: Nezha is a Wind unit, but only grows in power if he's hit by Fire damage, which Wind is weak to. Prior to his Balance Buff, this worked completely to his detriment.
  • Yin-Yang Bomb: Although primarily a Wind-elemental, he also has Fire-elemental abilities.

Ferryman of the Stars' Boundaries
SR Version
Holiday Version
Rarity: SR, SSR (Grand ver., Holiday ver.)
Element: Light, Fire (Holiday ver.)
Style: Special, Defense (Holiday ver.)
Weapon Specialty: Staff, Staff+Gun (Grand ver., Holiday ver.)
Charge Attack: Divine Flood, Sacred Arc (5★ Upgrade), Sacred Globe (Grand ver.), Sacred Holy Night (Holiday ver.)

The Primal Beast of shipwrights who resides in Golonzo Island.

  • Adaptational Villainy: In the game, Noa aids the crew throughout the Golonzo island arc. In the anime, however, he is Brainwashed and Crazy and is ordered by Pommern to attack the Grandcypher crew.
  • Art Evolution: As shown by the jump in quality between his original SR units art vs his SSR.
  • Back for the Finale: Or rather, back for the epilogue. He unexpectedly appears, fully voiced, at the end of the Nalhegrande arc despite not along for the ride with the main crew. Made even more surprising since he was mentioned in an earlier episode for Rackam's training but was passed over in favor of Tiamat instead.
  • Bishie Sparkle: Appears in his after battle model, signifying his otherworldly nature and pretty appearance.
  • The Cameo: He appears briefly in "Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies" to serve as an example of Primals that had become integrated into the sky realm after the sky dwellers views toward them had begun to change.
  • Companion Cube: Like Rackam, Noa also talks to the Grandcypher like a typical family member. Being the primal beast of shipwrights, he can also feel its emotions.
  • Connected All Along: Chapter 118 reveals that he also was a member of the Captain's father's crew with Rosetta and Walfrid.
  • De-power: In the anime he loses his powers after his forcibly induced rampage. He remarks that it might take a century or two to regain them.
  • The Empath: He can feel the "emotions" of ships, such as when he claims in his 5★ episode that the Grandcypher became distressed over the numerous run-of-the-mill materials used in repairing it.
  • Foreshadowing:
    • His human appearance with normal proportions (contrasting hulking giants like Yggdrasil) can serve as one. Him being one of two primal beasts of Golonzo Island is another. As it turns out later, Rosetta is a primal beast in human form, just like Noa. She also normally resides in Lumacie Archipelago, alongside Yggdrasil and Akasha.
    • In his Fate Episode, Noa tries to warn the crew about the "truth" at the end of the journey that doesn't necessarily end in a happy ending, referencing a Wham Line in the third arc that the captain might end up fighting their father in the end. Noa also tells that Vyrn cannot be a mere bystander, implying that there is something more to the lizard. This is a reference to all the various hints scattered throughout the game's lore that implies Vyrn is (or is a part of) Bahamut.
  • Figure It Out Yourself: Noa wants Rackam to remember the specifics of their promise by himself as he says that his pride won't allow him to provide the answer. In the anime, it's more of a case of No Time to Explain as his foremost concern is to warn the crew that they and the Grandcypher are in danger.
  • Improbable Weapon User: He fights with what appears to be a decorated oar.
  • Interface Spoiler: Despite Noa being played up as a minor mystery for the Golonzo Island arc, his status as a Primal Beast is made clear in his gameplay profile accessible to even new players through the characters section in the draw tab.
  • Light 'em Up: He is a Primal with control over the Light element.
  • Light Is Good: He's a light element Primal who prays for the happiness of young travelers.
  • Mellow Fellow: He's very calm, collected, and almost always has a gentle smile on his face.
  • Mystical White Hair: He has white hair and is the Primal Beast of shipbuilding.
  • Power Floats: He spends most of his time hovering above the ground, including in battle.
  • The Promise: When he first appears in the storyline, he keeps hinting at a promise with Rackam that he had made. This promise was to have them both fly on the Grandcypher soaring through the skies. In his 5★ fate episode, he makes a new one reinforced by Mithra's powers, promising that the Grandcypher will keep flying until it reaches Estalucia.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Granblue's Noa takes references from The Bible's Noah, which is hinted several times via his in-game ability names and lore such as:
    • Noa being the primal beast of shipwrights, while the biblical Noah is known for the ark.
    • His normal and 5★ Charge Attacks being named "Divine Flood" and "Sacred Arc" respectively.
    • The similarities would make even more sense thanks to the gacha mechanic that allows you to recruit playable characters and summons into the Grandcypher - including Erunes (based on canine and feline species), Draphs (based on cows and bulls), humans with animalistic traits (Nezahualpilli being a bird-person), and actual animals acting as companions for some characters (Dante's cats, Carmelina's lion, Wulf) and summons (a Gorilla, a duck named Hamsa), etc. This makes a parallel in the biblical narrative where the Ark houses various animal species as part of God's plan.
    • Interestingly, Noah's Ark departs as soon as rainstorm clouds come in, before The Great Flood is delivered. At least in the anime of Granblue, the first task that the party does after the Grandcypher takes off for the first time is to fly through the stormy clouds created by the corrupted Tiamat.
  • Ship Tease: With Rackam, especially in the Anime adaptation. He even cameos in SSR Rackams 5* uncap art.
  • Status Buff: 2/3 of his skills are team buffs. He's also reassuring, when he uses his skills, to his teammates saying, "Mada mada daijoubu" (Everything's still alright).
  • The Unfought: Noa is notable as the one of the only playable primal beasts you meet in the main story that you don't get to fight against, either in a regular fight or as a Super Boss.
    • Inverts this role with Mithra in the anime where he becomes Noa Malice due to the Empire's dark essence and Mithra being the unfought.
  • You Can't Thwart Stage One: In the anime, the crew rescues him from the empire's research laboratory and even takes off his dark essence collar that had been used by the empire to control his powers. Then it turns out the collar was actually a Power Limiter and the empire makes him go berserk remotely.

The Fallen One
Earth Version
Summer Version
Rarity: SSR, SR
Element: Dark, Earth
Style: Special, Balanced (SR)
Weapon Specialty: Sabre
Charge Attack: Dark Fallen Sword, Fallen Slash (Earth ver.)

The Primarch of Dusk who is intrigued by the Grandcypher crew's connection to the Supreme Primarch and the figure resembling him. She attempts to join them in order to investigate more of her enemies, for the sake of her fellow fallen comrades.

One of the many characters who originated from Rage of Bahamut, the fallen angel named Olivia made her debut in this game as a raid boss battle and a summon. She later became a playable character near the end of 2017, only appearing in Flash Gala promotions.

  • Aborted Arc:
    • Whatever storyline that involved her spying on the Supreme Primarch was seemingly abandoned by the time "Paradise Lost" came out a few months after her release. The mystery surrounding Lucio resembling Lucifer that was touched upon in her skill fate episode is also solved without her involvement in "000".
    • Her importance seemingly vanished after the What Makes the Sky Blue trilogy was completed and left her fate unknown. However, her Earth SSR version would later be released on 15 January 2024 to continue her character arc.
  • Adaptational Species Change: Averted. In her home game, she was labeled a Fallen Angel and she retains that title in this game as well. Though her reason for being a fallen angel and how they work in this universe is different.
  • Ascended Extra: Originally a generic raid boss and a gacha filler summon before being Promoted to Playable as a Grand unit and tied to the What Makes The Sky Blue trilogy.
  • Balance Buff: She received one in June 2020. Among the adjustments to make her more worthy of the Grand title, she also received a self-buff similar to Halluel and Malluel’s Limit Breaker buff.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: She's trying to avoid the trope, but as shown through the progression of her first year of Christmas, Valentine's and White Day personal events, the Captain's overwhelming niceness is rubbing off on her and eroding her sense of purpose, at least a little.
  • Bitch in Sheep's Clothing: She feigns friendship and camaraderie with the crew in order to keep an eye on the protagonist, who is the singularity the world revolves around, to keep tabs on Lucifer, and free her fellows from Pandemonium. There are hints she's not entirely happy with having to deceive the protagonist, but will still do so in order to achieve her goals.
  • The Cameo: She briefly cameos in a flashback in "What Makes The Sky Blue: 000" alongside Azazel, which served to establish which side she was on during the rebellion.
  • Casting a Shadow: Being the Fallen Archangel of Dusk, Olivia has the ability to temporarily darken an entire area by blocking out the light. This is demonstrated twice in the 2018 summer event "Bzzt! Amped Up Summer".
  • Connected All Along: Before her Promoted to Playable release, it was speculated on if she had any relation to the angels introduced in "What Makes The Sky Blue" due to also having Angel in her name. It was confirmed in her playable version that she is indeed connected to them, as a creation of Lucilius who seeks revenge against Lucifer for sealing her and her brethren away in the Astral vs Origin Beast war.
  • A Day in the Limelight: She is featured as the free Summer character in the "Bzzt! Amped Up Summer" event.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: What makes Olivia difficult to use is basically her nearly absurd skill cooldowns even at max level (8/8/7 for the three skills respectively). The duration of Sterling Sea's enemy debuff and Nevermore's self buffs are merely 2 turns. But what makes her awesome are because of three factors: First, her unique Twilight Terror debuff which prevents the target from gaining charge diamonds and prevents the use of special attacks (allowing you to survive deadly triggers). Second, Nevermore is a potent buff which guarantees Critical Hits and increased triple attack rates. Third, her charge attack also has synergy with her second skill and EMP passive. In simpler terms, making the best use out of Olivia requires some cooldown reduction abilities.
  • Distracted by the Sexy: An Inverted case, and discussed briefly in the "Bzzt! Amped Up Summer" event. Seruel worries that the Society rookies would be distracted if Olivia is watching their beach training, especially while the angel is in her swimsuit attire.
  • Don't Fear the Reaper: Her role as the primarch of Dusk is to grant a fitting end to the weary, with that being described as "Dusk". Despite this, she's not an actively malicious person.
  • Dual Wielding: She uses two swords in battle.
  • Everyones Dead Dave: In her (Earth) fate episode, she realizes that nearly all of her brethren were killed in the collapse of Pandemonium, leaving her and Azazel as the only survivors. It's unclear whether she's aware that Azazel is still alive and has managed to escape. As it turned out, they aren't all completely dead, as many of them returned to their original forms and were distorted during the Pandemonium rebirth cycle. Some of Olivia's brethren, such as Berceau, were able to escape due to their ability to defend against it, while others were not as fortunate and were transformed into energy that Berceau incubates.
  • Fallen Angel: The lore about her as a primal beast. She was formerly a primarch that rebelled against her creators and thus labelled Fallen Angel since. And quite unlike Sandalphon, she remains very loyal to her compatriots trapped within Pandaemonium.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry:
    • She wears a headband, but only her right side hair shows it.
    • Her red belt is slanted more on her right hip.
  • Flaming Sword: In her raid boss version, her dual swords emit blue flames while in Overdrive Mode.
  • Gratuitous Latin: Her second skill "Peccatum Mortale" is Latin for "mortal sin".
  • Hidden Buxom: Her normal and summon art have her being very modestly endowed while her summer version boasts a respectable bustline.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Like Azazel, despite being introduced to tie into the "What Makes The Sky Blue" storyline, she doesn't actually have much of a role in it, making only a small cameo and not becoming directly involved in any of the recent stories despite apparently being part of the crew along with Sandalphon and Azazel. She's unaware of the fact that Lucifer is dead and has had his role inherited by Sandalphon, and that Pandemonium has been destroyed, likely taking all of her imprisoned brethern with it. As well, her original body is in there too, leaving her fate up in the air until the release of her Earth version SSR where she later acknowledges the development of the events in the What Makes the Sky Blue storyline and what happens to her fellow fallen angels.
  • The Magnificent: Dark Angel Olivia, following her original version from Rage of Bahamut. Her name as a raid boss battle also adds the title before her given name.
  • The Mole: Olivia's intent on joining the crew is to stick together with the hero, who is the singularity, to keep watch on Lucifer's actions and to help free her fellow fallen angels from Pandemonium.
  • Mundane Object Amazement: In her focus event "Bzzt! Amped Up Summer" and its tie-in Grand Blues! comics, Olivia becomes curious of several mortal culture and objects such as popsicles.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • In her raid version, Olivia has two transparent snakes on her shoulders when she casts Fallen Sword, just like how her "evolved" artworks from Rage of Bahamut and Shadowverse are depicted to have them.
    • Her Earth unit form once again is a reference to one of her alt versions in Rage of Bahamut, the game she originates from.
  • Odd Name Out: The only primarch that isn't named after a biblical angel. This is justified, as she's an import from Rage of Bahamut and wasn't named after one there either.
  • One Degree of Separation: The first part of her skill fate episode takes place at the same time as Lucio's introductory fate episode. But they never see eye to eye after that. Not only that, she is also present in the aftermath of the third anniversary event, "What Makes The Sky Blue".
  • Out of Focus: Notable for being even more so than the original primarchs tied to the Primarch storyline. Once she became playable, she was set-up to be an important player in the story, only to receive a brief cameo in "000", the last event in the main trilogy and then later be presumably killed off-screen.
  • Power Floats: She stays afloat when in combat and only lands after the battle is finished.
  • Power Gives You Wings: Like the Primarchs and fallen angels, her powers are connected to her wings.
  • Recurring Element: She's one of the few Rage of Bahamut imports in this game that is essentially a Series Mascot for the company as a whole, and thusly has made appearances in nearly every major Cygames work.
  • Spontaneous Weapon Creation: Inverted. Just before her Victory Pose in her Summer version, Olivia's swords just dematerialize.
  • Uncertain Doom: It’s very likely that Olivia’s real body was destroyed when Pandemonium was destroyed by Helel ben Shalem and Helel ben Sahar, though it has yet to be confirmed. Her Earth version SSR addresses this by revealing that Olivia's current body is a vessel she transfered her soul to so she's still alive.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Right at the prologue of "What Makes The Sky Blue: 000", it's revealed that she is nothing but a pawn to Lucillius's plans in the end. This may be why she's so otherwise conspicuously absent in WMTSB - after the betrayal and defeat, she wants to defeat Lucifer and free her fellows, but likely knows better than to have anything to do with Belial and Beelzebub. Her Earth version SSR fate episodes lament how she fell for Belial and Beelzebub's plans and led to her brethren's doom.
  • Walking Spoiler: Uh, yup. Needless to say, she is jacked in tightly to the wider lore of the game, making many aspects of her difficult to discuss without heavy spoiler tag use.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: One would think she'd have rather a lot to do with "Paradise Lost", given that Lucifer dies in that event. But she doesn't appear and doesn't have any personal follow-up scenes. She appears in the intro to 000, but has no further role in the story until her Earth SSR version released in January 15 2024, which follows after her story after the ending of the What Makes the Sky Blue trilogy, how it connects to the Tower of Babel, and of the fate of Olivia herself and her fellow fallen angels.
  • Winged Humanoid: Retains this appearance from her original Rage of Bahamut counterpart, though in this universe she is aligned with the fallen angels.
  • Your Size May Vary: "Your Wing Size May Vary". Her wings become tiny in her summer variant without explanation but are perfectly capable of keeping her in the air.

Torrential Tide Father
The Tide Father (Summon)
"Auguste of the Dead" In Disguise (NPC)
Rarity: SSR
Element: Water
Style: Attack
Weapon Specialty: Spear
Charge Attack: Krisis Triaina

Originates from Rage of Bahamut. A primal that views himself as a god and first appeared in the event "Blade of the Young Champion". He seeks revenge against Juri and his entire island for the sins of his father.

  • A God Am I: In the "Blade of the Young Champion" story event, he viewed himself as a god. Thus being controlled by a mortal blemishes his ideal that gods are perfect.
  • Blue-and-Orange Morality: In "Auguste of the Dead". He was willing to let a bunch of innocent people die from zombification if it meant he could see the fate of Auguste as determined by the involved parties (Meg's group vs the Chairman). He even aided the Chairman in zombifying people. That said, he does switch over to the crews side once Meg proves her resolve to him.
  • The Bus Came Back: After years following his sole story appearance in "Blade of the Young Champion," Poseidon returns in "Auguste of the Dead" as a recurring supporting character.
  • The Cameo: Poseidon appears in "Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies" as one of the primals that helped Nezha defeat Azi Dahaka at the climax of the Astral War.
  • Clark Kenting: His disguise in "Auguste of the Dead" really just makes him look like Poseidon in a different outfit. In other words, it's not very difficult to tell that it's him.
  • Creating Life: He creates monsters from water.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: In "Blade of the Young Champion", he planned to sink the entire Auguste Isles for the actions of one man.
  • The Dragon: In "Auguste of the Dead", he was working with the now ex-chairman who was responsible for the zombification of the main characters. That said, he considered himself to be a neutral party that only wanted to see the outcome that was determined to be best for Auguste by the parties involved.
  • Expy: Like many of the other primals in Granblue Fantasy, he comes from Rage of Bahamut, though he's notably based off of Poseidon's more youthful Long-Haired Pretty Boy final form seen in his X Legend version rather than his default appearance who looks more like an old man.
  • God in Human Form: Before revealing himself during his second appearance, Poseidon appears as a human man wearing a black, leather jacket and sunglasses.
  • Human Disguise: Downplayed Trope, as the "disguise" he takes on in "Auguste of the Dead" doesn't make him look any more human than he already did as a humanoid Primal.
  • Humans Are Special: He comes to believe that mortals are interesting after Meg proves her resolve to save Auguste to him.
  • Hunk: The Lowain bros certainly think he's one.
  • Long-Haired Pretty Boy: The Poseidon of Granblue has a long silver hair.
  • The Magnificent: His updated gacha summon gives Poseidon the title of "The Tide Father".
  • Making a Splash: Natch as the god of seas. He uses his power to sink land and create water based monsters.
  • Mystical White Hair: He has long white hair, hinting at his God in Human Form nature.
  • Power Floats: He floats above the ground during combat.
  • Promoted to Playable: After returning in "Auguste of the Dead," he was made a Grand character during the following Premium Gala on July 31, 2021.
  • Revenge: Against Juri specifically for being the son of the man who tried to enslave him.
  • Speaks Fluent Animal: As the Tide Father, he can communicate with sea creatures who appear to revere him.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: In "Auguste of the Dead," Poseidon has calmed down considerably and helps Meg and the crew save Auguste from the zombie outbreak.

Rarity: SSR
Element: Light
Style: Balanced
Weapon Specialty: Gun+Staff
Charge Attack: Angelic Assault

The archangel of enigmas, who devotes her life to a certain someone.

  • Audience Surrogate: She can be seen as a representative for the players who want to see the Lucifer resurrected and returned to the sky realm, and is revealed to be the character who will take action to see it happen.
  • Badass Bookworm: She's a very powerful archangel sorceress who loves books and uncovering the mysteries of the world.
  • Beware the Nice Ones: Despite her otherwise sweet and polite demeanor, she is actually quite aggressive in battle. Not to mention her choice of weapon: a rotary cannon.
  • BFG: She uses a rotary cannon along with a spellbook for combat.
  • Clingy Jealous Girl: Kind of an Informed Attribute; According to herself and her NPC character description, she was jealous of Lucifer's preference for Sandalphon over her, despite the fact that they were both his creations. However, when she interacts with Sandalphon in the present day, she is nothing but polite to him, and she is sweet to Lucifer in flashbacks.
  • Determinator: By the end of "The Heart of the Sun," she vows to find another way to resurrect Lucifer after the Phoenix departs without giving her any of its tears.
  • Didn't See That Coming: Didn't see Sabrina cutting off Abramelin's arms to help him slip his chains and save him from being kidnapped coming.
  • Goal in Life: Hers is to find a way to resurrect Lucifer and reunite with him in the sky realm.
  • Good Counterpart: To Magus. Both are in this event working with the enemy to resurrect a deceased loved one, and both are spellcasters, but while Magus is evil and wishes to revive the evil entity Astaroth with the Phoenix's power, Raziel is a nice girl who wishes to revive Lucifer, who is a Benevolent God.
  • Hypocrisy Nod: She chastises the sorcerer behind the zombies in her Fate Episode for choosing the zombie method to resurrect his village, yet also admits the grief he's going through is the same as hers, and she’s also trying to find a method to resurrect her loved one.
  • Ignored Enamored Underling: She is a Primarch created by and serving under Lucifer, and she is heavily implied to have feelings for him, to the point where one of the likes in her bio is "That person" ("Ano O-kata," as she refers to Lucifer), and she admitted to being jealous of Sandalphon for Lucifer's preferential treatment of him in the past. However, Lucifer, being Lucifer, while he treating her kindly, did not seem to notice her feelings or understand why she was jealous.
  • Instant Expert: She becomes an instant expert of any weapon she creates using the Sefer Raziel.
  • Intergenerational Friendship: The Book of Primals in "The Heart of the Sun" reveals that she formed one with the Phoenix (the real deal) up until the reveal that she was just using her.
  • Leotard of Power: Like most female angels, she wears a leotard.
  • Lost in Translation: The spellbooks you can buy by trading moons are named "Book of Raziel" in Japanese, and are implied to be named after Archangel Raziel herself, but they are simply called as "Spellbooks" in the English localization, with no implication that the spellbooks are connected to her.
  • The Lost Lenore: She was devastated by Lucifer's death and has been looking for a way to bring him back to life.
  • Love Makes You Evil: In this case, "Love Makes You Consider Doing Evil Things" applies, as Raziel isn't a bad person at all but was perfectly willing to murder the innocent Singularity in order to see Lucifer return to the sky realm
  • Meaningful Appearance: It's subtle, but she's a Primarch created by Lucifer and Lucilius, and she has hints of their Primarch "styles," such as wearing a leotard, which is common among Lucilius-created female Primals, and dark stockings similar to Sandalphon's original outfit. She's also more elaborately dressed than any of the Lucilius created Primarch's, suggesting that most of her design motifs were Lucifer's idea.
  • Nice Girl: Aside from plotting to kill the singularity for her own reasons, she's a fairly sweet girl.
  • The Nicknamer: Almost. She refers to Sandalphon with the extremely polite "-sama" honorific, even in flashbacks, and when he tells her she can speak less formally to him, she questions the possibility of calling him another one of his more common nicknames "Sandy," which he rejects and allows him to continue referring to him as "Sandalphon-sama."
  • Non-Standard Character Design: Aside from wearing a leotard, her design differs from the other female Primarchs in that she is more covered up and elaborately dressed. She also lacks hair wings/feather-like hair and would otherwise look completely human if it werent for her back wings.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: According to her bio, she dislikes keeping a proper distance from others.
  • Playing Both Sides: She has her own reasons for wanting the Phoenix to stay alive, and works with both the Enneads and the crew to get closer to achieving that goal.
  • Orwellian Retcon: Until she debuts in "Heart of the Sun", the English localization and her connection to the experience spellbooks are Lost in Translation until the completion of the "Heart of the Sun" event on March 15 2024, where the spellbooks flavortexts are subsequently changed to add that the spellbooks are "Penned by Raziel" to keep the consistency between both languages regarding the spellbooks, where it's called "Book of Raziel" in Japanese.
  • Promoted to Playable: Although she was not an NPC for long, as she became playable in the same event she debuted in, supplementary material spoiled that she is the free unit that unlocks at the end of the event "The Heart of the Sun".
  • Proper Tights with a Skirt: Unlike the other female Primarchs who mostly or completely go bare legged, she wears half a skirt along with a pair of dark tights.
  • Pygmalion Plot: Inverted; She was created by Lucifer and is strongly implied to have feelings for him, but he didn't appear to reciprocate those feelings, let alone be aware that she has them.
  • Sadistic Choice: In a desperate attempt to persuade Sandalphon to help her resurrect Lucifer, she proposes that she kill the Singularity, whom he befriended along his journey, in order to obtain a Phoenix tear to resurrect Lucifer, their creator, whom they both love. He rejects her proposal, causing her to lash out and demand to know who he cares about more, Lucifer or the Singularity, but he reveals that his decision was not based on personal feelings, but rather on what Lucifer would have wanted - or, in this case, wouldn't have wanted, as he would not want his life to be exchanged for a Skydwellers. Knowing that this is how Lucifer would have truly felt, she defeatedly accepts his answer.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: In a sense, she is Sandalphon's sister because they were both created by Lucifer (though she was created by Lucifer and Lucilius, whereas he was created by Lucifer alone) and they both have very different personalities—she is sweet, innocent, and full of hope, whereas Sandalphon is prone to being grumpy, blunt, and is more cynical. Her personality actually more closely resembles Sandalphon's pre-rebellion incident personality, when he was still Lucifer's close follower. Even in flashbacks to that time, they behave toward Lucifer in similar ways.
  • Sixth Ranger: To the Diviners, who she works with to stop the Phoenix from killing itself, albeit for different reasons. She is the only one of them who is a Primarch, and while she herself plays both sides, she is also sometimes left out of their plans, as they leave her behind after her plan to kidnap Abramelin fails, leaving her at the mercy of a pissed off Sandalphon, who captures her. They don't even try to rescue her, leaving her to look for a way to escape while Sandalphon is distracted.
  • The Smart Girl: Similarly to Halluel and Malluel, part of her role is being a font of knowledge, with Lucifer specifically instructing her to gather knowledge on Enigmas like the Phoenix; however, unlike Hal and Mal, she does not seem to have a limiter in place that prevents her from sharing what she knows with others, as she’s filled many books with her discoveries.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Or possibly Stalker without a Crush depending on her feelings for Lucifer, and ultimately an innocent example. She admitted to always watching him and Sandalphon from a distance back when they were in the Astral world,
  • Superpower Lottery: Her Primarch powers, combined with the Sefer Raziel, allow her to make anything a reality, including ideas, as long as they are written on one of the pages. Conjuring up weapons from the book transforms the wielder into an Instant Expert of that weapon, and her Fate Episode reveals that there is also a page dedicated to healing magic. She can also summon the power to surpass the Omnipotent by channeling the power of others into her books. The only limitations to that last point are that she needs people's permission to borrow their power, and wielding it can be dangerous.
  • Remember the New Guy?: She is a new Primarch who was not mentioned by any of the other characters prior to this event, and her NPC description reveals that she is another Primarch created by Lucifer himself, in addition to Sandalphon, having been created by Lucifer and Lucilius.
  • Underestimating Badassery: Despite believing that the Singularity should be killed for good, she also doesn't fully understand how significant the Singularity was to the Timeline of the world of Granblue Fantasy at large.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Lucifer, so much so that she’s willing to throw away her life if he asks her to. Her love and loyalty to him is also what triggers her to team up with the Diviners so that she can acquire a Phoenix tear to resurrect him and even when that falls through, she still vows to find a way to resurrect him on her own.
  • Unwitting Pawn: The Book of Phoenix reveals that the Phoenix manipulated her and the Diviners for her ultimate plan on starting a war that will restart the universe.
  • Well-Intentioned Extremist: She worked together with the Diviners to take out and kill the Singularity to ensure the balance of the sky realm. Though the Book of Primals reveal that she worked with them to keep Phoenix from being killed under the Captain's hands with heavy implications that she wants to use the Phoenix to revive Lucifer and needs it alive for this purpose. She even outright admits that she has no inner desire to kill the protagonist.
  • Winged Humanoid: She, like Halluel and Malluel, has only two, as opposed to Lucifer and the Elemental Primarchs, who have six, implying that she is a lower-ranking archangel.

An archangel created at the direction of the Astrals long ago, Sandalphon was born with but one purpose - to replace Lucifer should the latter fail in his duties as the Supreme Primarch. As Lucifer was considered an incredible success, however, Sandalphon was in turn considered completely worthless and was kept around almost solely due to Lucifer's whim and kindness. Furious, he joined Astaroth and a number of other archangels (including Azazel and Olivia) in rebelling against the Astrals, only to be imprisoned within the tower of Pandemonium. Millennia later, having stewed in his hatred and bitterness for two thousand years, a chance occurrence on the island of Zinkenstill results in the seals of Pandemonium weakening just enough for a few of the trapped angels to escape - Sandalphon among their number. After two thousand years, Sandalphon prepares to take his vengeance, but he has no idea what fate truly has in store for him and the role he will end up playing.

Debuting as the central antagonist of the event "What Makes The Sky Blue" in 2017, Sandalphon was originally intended as a simple one-off villain for an anniversary event. His popularity with the players, however, caused Cygames to turn WMTSB into a trilogy of events, with him starring in both the second and third parts, being recruitable in both.

He received an Earth (Grand) version during the December 28th, 2020 Flash Gala update.

Amber Bindings
Earth Version
Summer Appearance (Summon)
Rarity: SSR
Element: Fire, Earth
Style: Defense, Heal (Earth)
Weapon Specialty: Sabre+Staff, Sabre+Harp (Earth)
Charge Attack: Pheltronan

One of the "primal pals" alongside Medusa, Nezha and Baal. Satyr is a carefree and goofy primal beast who always likes to see the good things first in others.

  • Assist Character: In a Scripted Battle of "Primal Resonance", the fight against Snow White starts off with Satyr unleashing her Summon Call, taking out a chunk of the boss HP, and as a Revenge to the beast who froze her earlier.
  • Best Friend: She describes her bond with Medusa, Baal and Nezha as "best friends for life" even though they are verbally in-denial with this despite being real. Lyria's Flavor Text for all of them in her Journal even make use of the term "primal pals" to describe them as a collective.
  • The Cameo: She cameo's in Summer Medusa's uncap art alongside Baal and Nezha.
  • Cast Herd: She's one of the founding members of the Primal Pals group along with Medusa, Baal, and Nezha and she almost always shows up when they do.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: She is a Fire element Primal, but she received an Earth unit in 2021 with the intention of it being used with Medusa and Baal. Likewise, Medusa would receive a Fire element unit in 2022 to be used with Satyr's Fire unit.
  • The Ditz: As cute, kind-hearted and energetic as she is, Satyr went around playfully conversing with Snow White, not realizing that the latter had already been brainwashed, which led to Satyr getting frozen without fighting back. When she was released, Satyr made the lamest excuse... that she was simply taking a nap inside the ice for her beauty sleep!
  • Funny Background Event: Her summer-themed summon's art shows Athena hitting Medusa's head with a volleyball.
  • Genki Girl: Satyr is the hyperactive, cutesy and energetic among the bunch of stoic Baal and Nezha, as well as a loud-mouthed tsundere Medusa.
  • Harmless Freezing: Satyr was frozen in a block of ice by a brainwashed Snow White when the group decided to split up the search.
  • The Heart: Of the core members of the Primal Pals group. She's the kindest member of the quartet and is usually the one who urges Medusa and Baal to stop bickering. Well, when she's not teasing them about their secret affection for each other, that is.
  • Lampshade Hanging: For the introductory chapters of the event, she describes her friends in this manner, via name-dropping characterizations and tropes. Even in one dialogue, the English localization uses the word "adorkable" which originated as an English slang from the Internet.
  • Little Bit Beastly: Her ears look like a horse's, and she can be easily mistaken for an Erune.
  • Nice Girl: She's as kind as she is energetic, not only to her fellow Primal Pals but to everyone.
  • The Nicknamer: She has affectionate nicknames for her three best friends.
  • No Sense of Personal Space: When Medusa arrives, Satyr's first course of action is to quickly and tightly hug her. Baal later verbally chastises her for this. And it is even subtly implied that Satyr also did this to the males (Baal and Nezha) just before Medusa came.
  • Playingwith Fire: She is a Fire element Primal.
  • Promoted to Playable: Became a playable character in May 2020's Premium Gala.
  • Sexy Backless Outfit: Not easily obvious, but her playable version's uncap art shows that a portion of her outfit is backless.
  • Shipper on Deck: Satyr playfully ships Medusa with their two male "primal pals" Nezha and Baal. However, she ships Baal more since he and Medusa are constantly bickering despite actually being close friends and having known each other for the longest among their group.
  • Storm of Blades: Her Summon Call as well as her Charge Attack for both playable versions lets her drop large swords at the target.
  • Taken for Granite: Was turned to stone by Geo, who is controlling Euryale's and Stheno's powers.

Unchanging Protector and Punisher
Summer Version
Rarity: SSR
Element: Fire, Light (Summer)
Style: Attack
Weapon Specialty: Spear+Staff
Charge Attack: Awaken Inner Eye/Mahakala, Annihilating Lightning/Pashupatastra (5★ upgrade), Gangadhara (Summer)

Originates from Rage of Bahamut.

Disciple of the Primarch Michael and Primal of both war and salvation, he appears before the Captain on Kluger Island to test their strength. He officially joins the crew when they encounter each other again on a dreary, plague-infested island.

  • Adaptational Wimp: Zigzagged. While he's proven to be plenty powerful in his Fate Episodes, he's stated to be a disciple of the primarch Michael, one of the big league primals in the Granblue Fantasy world who he and most other primals don't hold a candle to in terms of power. This is in contrast to his original incarnation in Rage of Bahamut, who was one of the three gods of destruction that could destroy even gods with his flames. His fifth uncap episode however, showcases just how powerful he truly is, and it's heavily implied that he's surpassed Michael in terms of sheer power.
  • Amazing Technicolor Population: In the entire Granblue roster, Shiva is the only purple-skinned playable character.
  • The Comically Serious: After the tension is dealt with, it's revealed that he loves to learn new things like words from mortals, using Vyrn as the primary lexicon to pick new vocabulary up from.
    Shiva: Are you feeling geezed?
  • Cast Herd: He is usually grouped with the other disciples, also known as Primal Beasts who trained under the tetra-element Primarchs and will inherit their power. It was until the event Prayers that he is seen interacting with his fellow disciples.
  • Demoted to Extra: He was one of the main Gods of the Rage of Bahamut universenote  and one of the three gods of destruction. In Granblue Fantasy, while he is a strong primal, he doesn't have any real story relevance outside of being associated with the primarch Michael and has yet to make a proper event story appearance.
  • Female Gaze: His Summer version's uncap art features a nice gratuitous shot of his rear.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: He's the disciple of Fire but was the first of the Disciples to be given a seasonal unit that isn't in his original element, as his summer unit is Light instead. Interestingly, his Summer unit incorporates Fire and Water elements into it's various animations rather than Light.
  • Gods Need Prayer Badly: Shiva uses the prayers from all to power himself and grant their wishes. The Captain's power as the Singularity allows them to create a single prayer powerful enough for Shiva to completely wipe out all traces of the disease and restore everyone back to full health.
  • Mercy Kill: In his two Fate Episodes, he sees this as the only way to deal with an incurable plague ravaging an island, taking solace in the fact the people's souls will move on from wracked with indescribable pain through reincarnation.
  • Multi-Armed and Dangerous: In accordance with Hindu legend, Shiva has four arms which he uses to wield his various weapons.
  • Nice Guy: As pointed out by Lyria, he has a kind heart despite his intimidating presence and serious nature.
  • Playing with Fire: He is a Fire-elemental Primal with flames that are capable of cleansing the world of impurities.
  • Promoted to Playable: He became recruitable two years after his debut on December 2016 as a summon.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: To go along with his namesake and legend, Shiva has a lot of terms revolving around Hinduism.
  • World's Strongest Man: As a fire primal, he is described as being near equal to (or second only to in Japanese) Michael, the fire primarch, in terms of power, putting him above every other fire elemental primal in the game except her. That said, with "Prayers" and his fifth uncap episode revealing that he has a disciple of his own, it's heavily implied he may have already surpassed Michael.

The Divine Butterfly
Flutterspirit of Purity (Summon)
Rarity: SSR
Element: Fire
Style: Special
Weapon Specialty: Staff
Charge Attack: Falter Tanz

A primal beast residing and helping the people of Feendrache over the years. She served as the Final Boss of the November 2014 story event, "Defender's Oath". 4 years later she would receive a gacha summon in the form of "Sylph, Flutterspirit of Purity", and 4 years after that she would finally become a recruitable character in February’s Premium Gala to coincide with the 8th anniversary story event "Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies".

  • Beam Spam: Her default attacks are red beams shot at the enemy.
  • Desperately Looking for a Purpose in Life: Not as prominent for her compared to some of the other primals that appeared in "Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies". Sylph becoming a supplier of healing Alma for the sky dwellers and eventually being deified by them for it was an unintentional byproduct of her looking for a place where she wouldn't be alone anymore after being abandoned by her creator.
  • Fountain of Youth: The origin of her powers to heal goes way back as she was created with the power to provide longevity through creating an Alma extract. Though she has to have the dragon Fafnirs aid to create it.
  • Horrible Judge of Character: As a primal with no concept of good or evil, she trusts almost everyone, but values Isabella's judgement above all else due to knowing her longer.
  • The Ingenue: Her childlike appearance is reflective of her personality as she's naive, honest, and too trusting for her own well-being.
  • The Magnificent: Her updated gacha summon gives Sylph the title of "Flutterspirit of Purity".
  • Playing with Fire: She is a Fire element Primal.
  • Power at a Price: "Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies" reveals that she is capable of creating Alma extract which heals the sick and extends lifespans, however, excessive creation of Alma causes an equally deadly poison to be made, which began to negatively affect the neighboring islands. She is never made privy of the drawbacks of her powers despite Cosmos and Lucifer, who watched over her situation as it played out, being fully aware of the harm it could cause if not properly controlled. Instead of informing her, Cosmos simply advises her to limit the creation of Alma; rather than giving it out to anyone that demands it, it should be treated as a blessing bestowed onto those who need it.
  • Promoted to Playable: She got added to the gacha pool as a playable character during the Feburary 28, 2022 Premium Gala update.
  • Star-Crossed Lovers: Sylph was created by an Astral who fell in love with an ill Skydweller who succumbed to illness, prompting the Astral's wish for longetivity. Though he made her in his lover's image, Sylph was not the woman he loved and so he left her in the land that would become Feendrache.
  • Unusually Uninteresting Sight: The villagers who first stumbled across her don't take notice of her large wings, treating her like a normal little girl. She informs them that she's a primal beast rather than a human child.
  • Winged Humanoid: She has a pair of butterfly-like wings coming out of her back.

     Tiamat

Guardian of the Wind
Summer Appearance (Summon)
Rarity: SSR
Element: Wind
Style: Special
Weapon Specialty: Melee+Staff
Charge Attack: Aerial Blitz, Tempest (5★ upgrade)

A primal beast resembling a woman with three tails ending in dragon heads. Tiamat governs the winds of the world, and her blessing is sought to ensure safe travel across the sky.

  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: It's not really apparent from her game artwork but her depiction in the anime and Omega version make it clear just how big she is. Just like Yggdrasil, however, she is shown to be able to shrink down in size, thus making her playable form a subversion.
  • Blow You Away: She has power over wind, which becomes a problem when she starts stirring up a great storm in the first arc of the game. However her omega form has a charged attack, Backdraft that also has a part inflicting fire damage as well as wind.
  • Boobs-and-Butt Pose: Disturbingly so, the Tiamat Malice accompanying Rackam's darker personality has her hips and lower body twisted to the point where her butt appears to be positioned at her right side.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: In the anime, she went berserk because of a dark crystal. She gets better when Gran destroys it.
  • Combination Attack: "Piercing Firestorm" with Rackam.
  • Composite Character: In a sense, one of her skills and her charge attack as a playable character follows the same attack triggers that she used as the normal and hard difficulty raid boss, but her design resembles her Omega version artwork instead of her initial version. The rest of her skills and passives refer to her traits as a boss (hitting multiple times, highly resistant to status ailments)
  • Dual Boss: With Leviathan in Bestia Island.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: Received a new portrait in one of the story chapters in the Nalhegrande Arc. It was revealed months later that this would be her actual portrait for her playable version.
  • Early-Installment Weirdness: Her Normal and Hard mode raids in the first chapter have her occasionally say lines in a speech bubble while fighting the crew. She was later retconned as The Speechless, but this small forgotten feature was left intact.
  • Fetal Position Rebirth: In Episode 5 of the anime, Tiamat sleeps in a fetal position when the crew arrive only to find her already corrupted.
  • Glowing Eyes of Doom: The eyes of her dragons glow purple as she becomes corrupted in the fourth episode of the anime
  • Promoted to Playable: Tiamat is released as a playable character as of the "What Makes The Sky Blue II: Paradise Lost" event, in commemoration of Granblue Fantasy's fourth anniversary.
  • Sadly Mythtaken: Shares her name and status as the Granblue Fantasy equivalent of a goddess with Tiamat of Mesopotamian legend but is associated with wind rather than the sea. This is likely because Leviathan already covered the "water" aspect of the elemental wheel among the main story primals.
  • The Scapegoat: According to "Created by the Stars, Loved by the Stars", she was blamed for the bad weather in Port Breeze Archipelago despite not having any control over the local climates. With Cosmos' intervention, she was able to change the minds of the sky dwellers and was deified by them as a result.
  • The Speechless: Like Yggdrasil, she doesn't speak as a playable character and communicates solely in chimes.
  • Tainted Veins: In the anime, Tiamat has red veins near her eyes when Freesia corrupts her using the Dark Essence.
  • Warm-Up Boss: Being the first primal beast you have to fight in the story, she naturally comes as this. Her omega form also doesn't have any special triggers in her moveset compared to the other omega raids, so her fight is pretty straightforward.
  • Wakeup Call Boss: However her Omega form is prone to hitting twice for rather considerable damage, highly resistant to status ailments from non-fire characters, and has some pretty damaging charge attacks, particularly Tempest (randomly hits party members about 5 times for sizable damage per hit; easily able to flatten an early party). But a well prepared party should have little issue lasting against her. Her Impossible Omega form on the other hand, is very definitely this, aside from her dragon heads becoming separate targets with their own HP triggers, she herself packs some annoying debuffs to cripple your team while her dragon heads wail on you.

Primarch of Earth
NPC Art
Summon Version
Rarity: SSR
Element: Earth
Style: Attack
Weapon Specialty: Melee
Charge Attack: Terrablaze Techtonics

The primarch of Earth. Being the youngest of the four primarchs, the others treat him like a little brother.

  • Attack! Attack! Attack!: His primary fighting style as his regeneration basically nulls any wounds an enemy inflicts. Unfortunately this doesn't quite work against Sariel wielding an immortal killing weapon.
  • Armor-Piercing Attack: His role in the Four Primarchs raid, being the first phase of the fight, he puts up a buff that lets him completely ignore Damage Cut buffs (the all elemental type ones only, the single element cuts wotk normally), letting him bring the pain as early as possible.
  • The Baby of the Bunch: The youngest of the tetra-Primarchs. It’s stated in his profile that because of this, the elder 3 treat him like a younger brother.
  • Blood Knight: Not a villainous example, but he loves to fight and test the physical capabilities of others, even challenging others to outdo him.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: He’s an earth element Primarch.
  • Dumb Muscle: Subverted, as while Sandalphon expected him to be as the brawn of the tetra-element primarchs, he ends up being smarter than he looks.
  • Elemental Embodiment: Of the earth element, a trait shared with Galleon of the Six Dragons.
  • Fire-Forged Friends: Because Sariel is the only angel capable of matching Uriel in terms of physical strength, they treat each other as a Worthy Opponent. But as "The Maydays" event shows, Sariel is actually concerned about Uriel that he inquires his condition from the other angels. In return, Malluel thinks of informing a worried Uriel right away that Sariel returned from being missing-in-action.
  • Good Old Fisticuffs: His fists are infused with the power of earth. The Gauntlet of Uriel contains his power, and is one of the Seraphic Weapons the player can forge.
  • Hair Wings: He has two brown wings growing out of the sides of his head.
  • Heroic Build: He is very muscular.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: He's the most openly abrasive of the primarchs, often speaking in a very rough manner and he tends to mock the captain, but he's a pretty nice guy underneath it all.
  • Magma Man: Has one charge attack that deals both earth and fire damage.
  • The Mentor: He’s this to Alexiel, though Alexiel takes his training far more seriously than he seems to.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Uriel is a very handsome and hunky man, and his default attire basically amounts to a mere loincloth and a fur collar.
  • Muggle Sports, Super Athletes: In Alexiel’s summer fate episode, Vyrn calls him out on calling mundane summer activities “Uriel Style”, until they see it put into practice. Needless to say, only Alexiel and the protagonist are able to keep up, though the protagonist is noted to become became visibly weary over every activity.
  • Muscles Are Meaningful: He’s extremely muscular which translates to his demonstrated Super-Strength.
  • Out of Focus: Along with the other tetra-element Primarchs, his role become lesser and lesser as the "What Makes The Sky Blue" storyline progresses, to the point where he doesn’t show up in The Maydays or Tower of Babyl, which are both direct continuations of the story. Sandalphon even makes up an excuse for why he and the other primarchs can’t be of any help to them in Tower of Babyl.
  • Promoted to Playable: He joined the Grand series of characters in the December 31, 2023 Premium Gala.
  • Smarter Than You Look: Sandalphon essentially says this to him in his Grand versions skill fate episode after he quickly deduces that Sandalphon is a primarch and an escaped convict from Pandemonium.
  • Spinning Piledriver: Attempted this to Sariel from some distance in the air, to some effect as it ends up taking out two of his wings, which would in turn prevent Belial from gaining an unbeatable amount of power when he took Sariel's wings.
  • Super-Strength: The most physically adept of the Tetra-element Primarchs to an almost exaggerated degree, further demonstrated in Alexiel’s summer fate episode.
  • Supreme Chef: He's well known for his "Uriel Stew".
  • The Big Guy: Of the four Primarchs, he fulfills this role.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Only wears what looks like a fur collar.

The Curious Tree
Wind Version
Summer Appearance (Summon)
Rarity: SSR
Element: Earth, Wind
Style: Special
Weapon Specialty: Melee
Charge Attack: Axis Mundi, Luminox Genesi (5★ upgrade), Erde Urteil (Wind)

Originates from Rage of Bahamut. A human-like primal beast inhabiting the ancient forests of the Lumacie Archipelago. She joins the crew out of the desire to be with her friend and see the world.

  • Adaptational Species Change: From a "God" in the Rage of Bahamut universe to an Astral-created "God-like" Primal Beast in Granblue Fantasy.
  • Animation Bump: She is one of the first characters with unique Charge Attack animations. Yggdrasil floats to the skies and creates an orb of energy that enlarges at it drops to the ground. Her Charge Attack is also notable as it cannot be skipped with the "Charge Attack Animation Skip" setting.
  • Art Evolution: Her art has evolved quite a bit over the years from Rage of Bahamut to her playable era. Over time, her hair has gained volume and gotten a bit bushier, the increased volume means she's gained two additional tie-tails, the design of her dress has changed some (there's more obvious cloth in it and it's a lot more white), her ears have become a bit more conventionally "elfin" and the twigs have been moved up her head a bit to function more like decorative accessories, and most notably, her head-sprout has gotten more and more elaborate as time has gone on. It grew a bit in her RoB ascensions, but modern Granblue has made it into almost a small tree.
  • Attack of the 50-Foot Whatever: It has been mentioned that she's literally the size of a mountain for her Omega version. Even in later story events and the like where she gets to hang out with the crew following her rescue, she's still something like fifteen feet tall or more. Her playable version and her appearance in the anime subvert this as she reveals she can casually shrink to a human's size.
  • Because You Were Nice to Me: Part of the reason why Rosetta decided to jump in to protect her and cover the entire Lumacie Archipelago with thorns.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: As Yggdrasil Malice when she was infused by Dark Essence causing her to rampage. It very nearly kills her, but the crew ultimately manages to save her using Vyrn's power, to Rosetta's immense relief and Yggy's own gratitude.
  • Breakout Character:
    • She was originally, well, just a boss, imported from Rage of Bahamut. She was the most human-looking of the six "core" primal beasts, and rather popular because of it. Once the main story reached Chapter 44 or so and beyond, however with the revelations about Rosetta and her relation to Yggy and some of the resulting events like her Malice fight and her rescue from certain death, Yggdrasil became even more popular. She began to find her way into events (like Table For Six), and players began seriously asking for the possibility of her being playable. Her final, playable version came about almost entirely because of fan desire for it.
    • To put a point on it, she blew out the 17th Fan Favorite Poll, which was the first where she was available to vote on. She unseated both the eternally popular Vira as well as Scathacha, who had previous managed to usurp the top spot and would've remained there had it not been for Yggy.
    • Yggdrasil was later featured in the cover of the game's ninth Light Novel volume.
  • Cute Mute: She isn't actually capable of speech at current, language being (as her fate episode explains) such a foreign concept to her that she doesn't even think in words, and instead communicates using chime-like sounds. Happily, once she starts hanging out with the crew, Rosetta and Lyria can interpret for her just fine, and even other members of the crew have gotten reasonably adept at figuring out what she means.
  • Defeat Means Friendship: Her recruitment occurs in-lore in the wake of rescuing her from Freesia, which involved fighting her in her "Malice" form, manifested by overloading her with Dark Essence. She joins you in large part because you saved her and she wants to travel with you like Rosetta gets to.
  • Dishing Out Dirt: Uses earth based attacks for the most part. She can also use fire in the form of magma.
  • Draw Aggro: Her default support skill Grace of the Great Tree automatically makes her more likely to be attacked. It also helps fill up her charge bar more quickly when she is hit. This trait can be strengthened or weakened with EMP points.
  • Dual Boss: With Colossus in Bestia Island.
  • Early-Bird Cameo: She was first shown doing things with the Grandcypher crew in the "What Makes the Sky Blue" event... which ran some three months and change before she was playable. Her sudden appearance surprised everyone, mystified many, and introduced intense speculation over when or if she'd become playable. She would enter the gacha pool the following 30th of June.
  • Energy Ball: She creates a large sphere of energy when casting Axis Mundi.
  • Evil Costume Switch: Her Malice form spawns four plants from her dress that act like giant carnivorous plants, the green colorization of her dress turns dark-red and the clothing on her chest and arms are adjusted to reveal more of her skin.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: She's known to be able to change sizes, growing from being huge to human size. To reflect this, her 5* uncap sprite is bigger than her default and it takes up a good portion of the frontline screen depending on where she's positioned. Her victory pose blocks out the entire team if she's in the 4th position.
  • Green Thumb: She demonstrates this power in the anime when she forms a bridge made of vines.
  • In-Series Nickname: Lowain and his bros call her Yggy (pronounced as Iggy).
  • Instant Runes: A magic circle appears behind Yggdrasil in her uncap art, and also in-game as she prepares Axis Mundi. It is visually similar to the Voynich Circle in her raid's Impossible version.
  • Intelligible Unintelligible: She speaks in chimes which aren't translated in her speech boxes. Other primals such as Rosetta and Uriel seem to be able to understand her while the non-primal members of the crew are learning to, making her unintelligible to only the player.
  • Interspecies Romance: With Elsam, one of Lowain's bros. He manages to make it work out despite the massive size difference between the two. Unfortunately, this was all a daydream. Depending on how you interpret the Ship Tease, her relationship with the Captain counts as this as well.
  • Irony: Between her bevy of buffs and her ability to passively draw attacks to herself, she works well in a team with Hallessena, who likes not getting hit and having her attack stat buffed even higher. That'd be, however, the sentient tree working together with the chainsaw maniac.
  • Late-Arrival Spoiler: Merely seeing her in the gacha is a little bit of a spoiler (as early on there's no indication that Primal Beasts can be recruited as party members, even if Yggdrasil is markedly more human than the others in the "early set" of Primal Beasts), but previewing her Fate Episode will drop some real spoilers on you: namely, that you have to fight her as Yggdrasil Malice at one point, that you rescue her from Freesia's grasp and certain death as a Malice, and that she and Rosetta are "siblings", or as near as two Primals can be to it.
  • Mundane Object Amazement: The first time she drinks an apple juice in her Fate Episode, she gets amazed to the point that she accidentally grew plants around her, drawing the attention of nearby monsters.
  • Navel Window: Her dress leaves an opening for just about her navel area.
  • Pimped-Out Dress: Wears a very elaborate gown with a plant motif. It gets even more pimped out in her Omega form, where it nearly quadruples in size.
  • Pointy Ears:
  • Power Floats: Unlike a few of the other Primal crew members, she still relies on her power to float places when moving. She doesn't float in her (Wind) unit, however.
  • Promoted to Playable: She originated as one of the Raid Bosses and a Summon before becoming available as a playable character.
  • Random Effect Spell: The 4★ uncap of her Omega summon's Call Effect additionally provides a random status buff to the party, and the 5★ uncap makes it grant two extra buffs.
  • Reused Character Design: Both her base and (Wind) designs are copy-pastes of her Rage of Bahamut appearances. Even the poses are similar to her card art.
  • Sadly Mythcharacterized: The World Tree of Norse Mythology has been adapted into a humanoid woman with Earth powers and a plant on top of her head. In the Granblue Fantasy creators' defense, Rage of Bahamut portrayed her like this first, they simply brought her over.
  • Ship Tease: Between her birthday event and her seasonal personal events, there's a definite trend of this; her personal events tend to have a somewhat clearer romantic bent than many other characters.
  • Sibling Yin-Yang: Rosetta claims this true - Yggy is the flower, and she is the thorns, and together they are the forests of Lumacie. Even with just her chiming, it's clear that Yggy doesn't entirely agree with this assessment and thinks Rosetta is nicer than she gives herself credit for.
  • Sleep-Mode Size: Of a sort. Normally Yggdrasil is literally dozens of feet tall, but just like Rosetta she's able to manifest a kind of "sub-body" that's roughly human size and has access to a good spread of her powers, which she can use to accompany the crew while her main body and core remains on Lumacie. This initially leads to a hilarious invocation of the Clown Car trope from the Captain, since they point out that the Grandcypher... isn't one, and that Yggy is going to have some trouble fitting. Cue this trope!
  • The Speechless: She doesn't talk at all, though Rosetta can understand her just fine, and at need, other members of the crew (as seen in "What Makes The Sky Blue" and "Table For Six") can usually suss out what she's "talking" about.
  • Status Buff: Two of her skills fall into this category:
    • Blathnat Norn increases the attack, defense, and charge bar speed of all allies for three turns.
    • Ziggurat increases the Critical Hit rate of all allies, while also giving all allies except Yggdrasil herself the Shield effect.
  • Statuesque Stunner: While the sprites are never completely to scale, and it's not helped by Yggy floating in battle, all of her sprites in battle and cutscenes do give the impression that even at human scale, she's still pretty darn tall. Not quite true in the anime, though, where she's taller than Io or Lyria, but still a bit shorter than Gran, Katalina or Rosetta, which pegs her at around a fairly petite 5'3".
  • Support Party Member: All of her skills involve supporting her allies, either through buffing, healing, or drawing attacks to herself.
  • The Unfought: In the anime, at least. Rather than being forced to fight due to Orchis' influence, she is summoned to help Lyria battle her fears and awaken her from her coma, after which she joins Gran's party willingly.
  • Warm-Up Boss: Downplayed. While she's still very formidable, her Impossible Omega raid battle is often considered the simplest out of the Impossible Omega I raids, as she lacks any HP percentage triggers throughout the fight. Given that Wind will mostly likely be the element that a new player will develop the most first as they enter the Impossible tier, this almost seems intentional.
  • When Trees Attack: While she looks pretty human, she is, basically, the essence of a magical tree and her skills and whatnot reflect this.

     Yuni

Beloved Child of Arbitration
Holiday Version
Rarity: SSR
Element: Light, Dark (Holiday ver.)
Style: Balanced
Weapon Specialty: Staff
Charge Attack: Ignotum Universe, Twinkle Universe (Holiday ver.)

The dragons who accompanied the arbitrator over the ages manifests in the Sky Realm with a new form and name. In order to fulfill the wish of her master and to discover her own aspirations, Yuni is prepared to soar into the future.

She debuted in Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies and was made playable as a Grand on March 19th's flash gala.

  • Advertised Extra: Played With. While she shows up slightly more than other featured minor characters such as Lucifer, her role in Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies isn't actually that big. She's mainly there to show the protagonist the events of the Astral vs Skydweller war and the subsequent primal rebellion, and then present them with the choice to live, which would bring an end to the arbitration system as well as the death of Cosmos or die, which would cause the destruction of the Sky Realm. The role she did play doesn't end up mattering in the end, as not only does being shown visions of the past not affect the choice of the protagonist (since the players aren't given a real choice in the first place), Cosmos herself ends up coming to the Sky Realm to help the protagonist make the final decision despite Yuni already having done it.
  • Anti-Debuff: Her "Arbitrator's Envoy" skill makes her immune to all debuffs.
  • A Form You Are Comfortable With: Originally a pair of dragons that accompanied Cosmos, Cosmos merged them together to give them a human form and the ability to speak so that they could confront the protagonist in her place. Her Grand fate episodes clarify that since she has accepted the body and the name "Yuni" she cannot change back, making this transformation permanent.
  • Beam Spam: One of her attack animations is her shooting the enemy with rays of light.
  • Cast Herd: She joins the Primal Pals per Satyr's request in her Grand fate episodes.
  • Censor Shadow: How her nudity is obscured in her Grand fate episode after Lyria and company walk in on her.
  • Color-Coded Eyes: Her eyes are described as lilac. It's implied that her eyes are purple to represent her original red and blue dragon forms being merged together to create her, as red and blue make purple.
  • Cosmic Motifs: As with Cosmos' other surrogates, cosmic themes are heavily incorporated into her playable unit. She can even inexplicably demonstrates the ability to summon the vacuum of space in her charge attack "Ignotum Universe", something not even Zooey is shown to do.
  • Color Motifs: Her original dragon forms, one of which was red and silver while the other was blue and silver.
  • Emotionless Girl: Played With. While she can smile and appear to be slightly affected by the things she talks about, she isn't very emotive beyond this. This is because she isn't used to having emotions, having been recently given a human form after being a pair of dragons for so long. Her Grand fate episodes are in part about discovering what her feelings mean.
  • Failed a Spot Check: Neither Lyria nor the protagonist seem to notice that she bears a slight resemblance to Lucifer despite them being shown various flashbacks of Lucifer by her over the course of their interactions.
  • Fish out of Water: She isn't quite familiar with most human customs due to having lived in isolation with Cosmos for most of her existence.
  • Flower Motifs: Her uncap art and fourth skill icon feature Lycoris Radiata, flowers typically associated with death and reincarnation.
  • Gender Flip: She appears to be a vague one of Lucifer, though her hair is slightly curled into a bob and her eyes are a glowing lilac rather than blue. This is because Cosmos made Yuni in Lucifer's image after learning of his death, which is reconfirmed in the flashback shown in her Grand fate episode.
  • Gratuitous Foreign Language: Her skill names "Vis Voluntatis", "Porta Plana", and "Ignotum Universe".
  • Hellish Pupils: She has Lucifer's distinctive white pupils, hinting back at her appearance being inspired by his.
  • Inconsistent Coloring: Her eyes are officially described as lilac but appear to be blue in some of her in-game art.
  • Identical Stranger: Or semi-identical strangers. She looks vaguely similar to Lucifer due to being created by Cosmos using her two dragon companions after learning of his death. Beyond this, she has no direct relation to him outside of knowing of the relationship he had with Cosmos, and she is starkly treated as another manifestation of Cosmos and an add-on to the "Arbitrator/Primal Pals" storyline rather than a Primarch-aligned character.
  • Idiot Hair: She has Lucifer's signature dual-cowlicks, making it easier to identify her as being based on him.
  • Infinity +1 Sword: Her Grand unlock weapon "Harmonia", which is the Light harp equivalent of Lich's unlock weapon "Pain and Suffering". It is difficult to obtain naturally due to it being a Grand unlock weapon, but it's benefits make it worth it, as it's one of the most powerful Light weapons in the game, being a must have for both Magna and Primal grids. Though a player will ideally need two of them to be fully uncapped, leveled and skilled capped to get the full use of it's Power Creep potential.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: While she has knowledge of what clothes are used for, she doesn't have any shame in regard to her own nudity, as her Grand fate episode has her invite Lyria and company into her room while she's in a state of undress. Lyria shoos Vyrn and the protagonist (if male) out of the room so that she can help her put her clothes back on.
  • Interface Spoiler: Yuni not receiving a Lyria's journal entry at the end of Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies hinted that she would become a playable unit, as new characters who aren't playable tend to be given a journal entry either during the event or before it ends. She received a playable unit five days after the final chapters released as a part of March's anniversary flash gala.
  • Light 'em Up: She is a "Primal" with power over Light.
  • Ms. Exposition: Her primary role in Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies is to show the protagonists flashbacks of the war between Skydwellers and Astrals, as well as the subsequent Primal rebellion which eventually lead to them taking on new roles outside of what they were originally created for.
  • Mystical White Hair: Shares this in common with Lucifer, which hints that she has a connection of some sort with him. Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies suggests that Cosmos created her in his image, though they don't have any relation to each other beyond this.
  • Necessary Drawback: Her kit makes her pretty powerful as a utility unit, however due to her skills being linked and the need for her "Precious Wish" status effect to be raised to a certain level to make use of her skills other than "Revitalize", it takes her a bit of time to get going, making her less useful for lower level content.
  • Never Bareheaded: According to her Grand fate episode, she "rests" with her hair accessory still on.
  • Non-Indicative Name: She's labelled as a "Primal" in-game despite not exactly being one, as she is an off-shoot of the Primal Cosmos, making her fit the "Other" category more. Even her profile nods at this by listing her race as "Primal?" It's implied that she's at least functionally like a Primal, similarly to Zooey, which is likely why she was placed in this category.
  • Not Quite Dead: Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies made it appear as though she disappeared along with Cosmos by the end of the event. Her fate episodes reveal that she didn't disappear, or at least not completely, as she returned to the precipice between life and death to have one final chat before being sent back to the Sky Realm.
  • Odd Name Out: Downplayed Trope. While she bears a slight resemblance to the characters who resemble Rage of Bahamut Lucifer, she's the only one that doesn't follow the "Luci-" naming trend, with her name being a pun on "Universe". This is likely justified, as she has little to do with Lucifer beyond having her human appearance be vaguely inspired by his looks.
  • Power Creep: Not her, but her unlock weapon "Harmonia" is the Light equivalent of playable Lich's "Pain and Suffering" unlock weapon and acts as a power creep to most other Light element weapons in the game, so much so that it was quickly determined to be a must-have in both Magna and Primal grids after it was released.
  • Power Floats: She floats above the ground in her playable unit, an ability that she retained from her time as the pair of dragons that accompanies Cosmos.
  • Promoted to Playable: She became playable on March 19th, 2022, as a part of Flash Gala.
  • Punny Name: Her name is implied to be one on "Universe".
  • The Quiet One: She's not as talkative as Cosmos' other surrogates and has difficulty verbalizing her feelings, as she can't quite understand them herself.
  • The Runt at the End: The last "Lucifer"-face revealed thus far and the most different of them, as she's female, has more in common outfit and motif-wise with Zooey and her eyes are lilac instead of blue. This serves as a hint that she's not actually a Lucifer-face and is a character who vaguely resembles him.
  • Sadistic Choice: In "Created By the Stars, Loved by the Skies" Yuni is sent by Cosmos to present Lyria and the protagonist with the choice of living and returning to the Sky Realm, which would end the arbitration system and cause Cosmos to disappear with it, or accept death, which would bring about the end of the Sky Realm but keep Cosmos alive. This trope ends up being defied as Lyria outright says that the choice to live is obvious as neither of them want to die nor do they want the Sky Realm to be destroyed. The decision the protagonists are making is harder on Yuni, as she was the one that didn't want Cosmos to disappear and was conflicted about her role in inadvertently causing it to happen.
  • Shoulder-Sized Dragon: In her true form as the two dragons that accompanied Cosmos.
  • The Sleepless: She says that she has never slept and therefore does not know what it's like to dream.
  • Support Party Member: Her primary role as a unit is to act as a Debuffer/Support who can heal allies, increase charge bar gain, lower the duration of most debuffs, and buff allies with her "Arbitrator's Wish" status effect.
  • Two Beings, One Body: She was originally a pair of dragons that Cosmos merged together to create a single humanoid Primal.
  • Undying Loyalty: To Cosmos. Even after losing her role, she still wants to carry on Cosmos' wish to watch over the future of the sky realm.
  • What Happened to the Mouse?: Lyria wonders what happened to her after Cosmos' disappearance at the end of Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies. Her Grand fate episodes reveal that she didn't disappear with Cosmos, and merely went to meet her in the precipice for one final goodbye.
  • What Is This Feeling?: She begins to feel emotions toward the end of Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies. Her Grand fate episodes are all about her learning what these feelings mean.

Grand Arbitrator
"Auld Lanxiety" Version
Summer Version
Regular Version
Rarity: SR, SSR
Element: Light, Dark (Summer), Fire (Event)
Style: Balanced (Promotional and Regular version), Special (Summer and Fire version)
Weapon Specialty: Sabre (Promo and Summer), Sabre+Gun (Regular), Spear (Event)
Charge Attack: Gamma Ray, Cosmic Ray (Regular version 5★ upgrade)

The Primal Beast known as the Grand Order, observing from the cosmos above the world, takes an interest in the crew of the Grandcypher after they take down Akasha. Introducing herself as Zooey to them, she comes along on their journey to see what they're like.

She was featured as the main event character for "Auld Lanxiety" in 2018, and later had a short role in the 2019 event "Primal Resonance". She is playable in Versus.

  • Advertised Extra: Zooey's "Keeper on a Mission" skin is featured in the event teasers of "Primal Resonance", despite the event's spotlight focusing more on Medusa, while Zooey only arrives at the final chapter of the event.
  • Ambiguous Situation: Now that Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies revealed that Zooey is a surrogate of Cosmos and that other surrogates could show up at will, it's left up in the air if Zooey's other appearances beyond her playable unit are actually her. For example, is the Grand Order the player fights in a raid actually Zooey, or is it another surrogate of Cosmos? Same applies to the Grand Order summon the player can obtain from the Gacha.
  • Animation Bump: Her regular SSR version is one of the few characters with unique Charge Attack animations. Zooey flies to the skies as the background changes to that of the galaxy. She then fires Gamma Ray from her weapon as the screen cuts back to the battle, zapping the enemy from above.
  • Battle Ballgown: Her outfit is a mix of a dress with armor pieces and a chestplate.
  • Become a Real Boy: A variant. At the end of "Created by the Stars, Beloved by the Skies", both Zooey and Geo, as fragments made out of Cosmos's heart and collective wishes of the skydwellers and primal beasts respectively, did not fade away together with Cosmos when Cosmos disappears in the end and instead became manifestations separate from Cosmos, becoming a true Primal Beast in their own right.
  • Breakout Character: Holy freakin' moley. Zooey began life as a primal fight and summon to commemorate the first birthday of Granblue and remained that way for about a year. Fan demand led to Cygames trialing a playable version as a bonus for signing up for a Cygames-affiliated Visa card... and demand after that led to her getting her infamous summer version and that version later became upgraded to a Grand series character, the only seasonal limited character who would feature in monthly banners after their debut. And then further demand led to her getting two more versions in February 2018, one of them permanently available, and she starred in that month's event, influencing the narrative. All by fan demand. (Did we also mention how she utterly dominated the popularity poll once she could be voted for due to having a normal rollable version?). As of June 2018, Zooey also represents the Dragoncraft Class when the "Brigade of the Sky" expansion was released in Shadowverse. She is also part of the 1st Character DLC Pack of Granblue Fantasy Versus.
  • Clap Your Hands If You Believe: Zooey mentions that Primal Beasts are born from the people's desires or wishes, and she is the result of the skydwellers' desire for balance. During the Fate Episodes of her regular version, she has to "be one with the world" in order to prevent an oncoming threat that could end all life. Days past and Zooey never returned. Then Vyrn motivates the crew to wish and think for Zooey to come back, and she does.
  • Clone Angst: Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies confirms that she is essentially a clone, being an off-shoot of the original arbitrator primal Cosmos sent to act in her place, as the original Cosmos is incapable of manifesting in the sky realm. She doesn't seem bothered by this, only feeling regret that she didn't tell the protagonist sooner and even makes peace with the fact that she'll disappear when Cosmos does due to their link. Thankfully for us, she doesn't, and instead when Cosmos disappears their link is broken, allowing her to be able to live her own life without being tied to her role.
  • Cooldown Manipulation: One of the gimmicks presented by her regular version's third skill "The Last Wish". It is initially locked out at the start of a player's first turn, and one has to wait up to 5 turns in order for the skill to be usable. However, every time a buff (from green or yellow border skills) successfully affects Zooey, the cooldown of the skill is reduced by 1.
  • Counter-Attack: Her regular version's Ray Strike allows her to deal up to 630,000 damage for every successful dodge against an enemy's attack for 3 turns.
  • Connected All Along: Downplayed. She is connected to the Primarch storyline through Cosmos, as Cosmos was once a good friend of Lucifers according to Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies. That said, while Cosmos is her original self making her Zooey connected to the storyline by proxy, Zooey doesn't have any direct connection to the primarchs despite quite a few of them being affiliated with the crew.
  • Cosmic Motifs: She's heavily associated with the cosmos, which is incorporated into her skill animations, charge attacks, and weapon series.
  • Coy, Girlish Flirt Pose: She strikes this pose in her Summer version's initial art, while carrying one dragon in her right.
  • Cryptic Background Reference:
    • In her regular gacha version's episode, Zooey risks the possibility of losing her identity so that she could regain her original powers and stop a world-ending threat before it arrives in the skydom. As the next scenes are taken from the captain's perspective, we never get to see how Zooey fared against the threat. Only a collective wish from the Grandcypher crew brought back her identity and skyfarer form. When this scene is referenced in "Primal Resonance" no other details were included to bring up light to what happened to her.
    • Also in "Primal Resonance", Geo screams "Cosmos" before fleeing the scene. Lyria notices the oddity, as "Cosmos" isn't someone introduced so far in the game's expanding lore. Zooey monologues that she knows "Cosmos" but just can't bring it up to her skydweller friends just yet. They would soon learn who "Cosmos" is with the 8th anniversary event "Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies".
  • A Day in the Limelight: "Auld Lanxiety" features her as the loyalty character.
  • Deus Exit Machina: Inverted. She arrives too late in the "Primal Resonance" event, just after the crew and the wounded "primal pals" defeated Geo. If Zooey arrived earlier, Geo wouldn't be a threat at all, since she is fairly matched as his Spear Counterpart. The narration also has a justification for this; Zooey sensed too many primal beasts in the island that she wasn't able to pinpoint the crew's exact location at first.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: An interesting case is built around her Summer version's Conjunction Skill. It reduces all party members' HP to One, but with added invulnerability buffs that ensure the survival of your team. What makes it difficult is that one has to rely on building Enmity-focused grids and characters so that the greatly reduced HP can be exploited to the player's advantage. The grinding itself can take around months. Fortunately, Wind, Dark and Earth have farmable SSR weapons with the Enmity Skill. Once you are able to build a working Enmity grid on any team, Summer Zooey will eventually become a game-breaker regardless of element.
  • Distaff Counterpart: She is this to Geo, with an inverted version of his name, gender, appearance, origins and function.
  • Do Not Call Me "Paul": She doesn't like to be called the Grand Order.
  • Doesn't Like Guns: Downplayed. In her regular version's Fate Episode, she mentions that for her, all weapons are easy to use. But she does not prefer using guns as they only offer a one-sided offense, as one would only "keep pulling the trigger until the threat goes away". This might have made her using a gun an example of something crossing the Godzilla Threshold for her.
  • Double Entendre: When both Zooey and the captain struggle to draw speed to their float, she requests the captain to adjust their center of gravity by holding on tighter to Zooey.
Can you hold on to me? The tighter. The better.
  • Dragon Rider: As the Grand Order, she rides upon a dragon named the Peacemaker's Wings.
  • The Dreaded: Zooey's presence makes Geo worry during the course of "Primal Resonance". When she is about to arrive on the island, Geo panics and flees.
  • Dub Name Change: Zooey's original name is Grand Order, in which the English localization changed it from Order Grande in Japanese.
  • Foil: Of Geo. Both of them share a nearly identical appearance and accompanied by a dragon. They are both created from emotions and wishes of a race but the difference comes from how they are created. Zooey is created from the wishes of the skydwellers to protect the sky realm. Geo, meanwhile, is created from the anguish and despair of the primals that have fallen. Zooey has white hair and red eyes, while Geo has blue eyes and hair. Similarly, Zooey approach keeping balance by joining the crew. Geo, meanwhile, views the main trio of Lyria, Vyrn and Gran/Djeeta, who is the singularity, as a threat that must be eliminated for the sake of his goal of ruining the balance, as the anti-thesis to Zooey.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: Her promotional and regular versions have the "Balanced" style because, well... she is the keeper of balance. But her other versions are listed "Special" instead, because she is not heavily tied to her usual role during these instances. In her summer version, she takes a vacation leave, and in her Fire version, Zooey temporarily takes the role of a shrine priestess.
  • Gameplay and Story Segregation: While she's often described as a special type of Primal Beast that is incredibly strong, 3 out of 4 of Zooey's units aren't particularly strong and tend to have niche usages, with the only exception being her Summer unit, which was so strong that it was promoted to Grand status, being the first and so far the only preexisting unit to get this treatment. Even more interesting, her Summer unit is Dark rather than Light, making her strongest unit be the one that isn't in her native element.
  • Gathering Steam: Her Gun version has the "Primal Pulse" passive which boosts her critical hit and dodge rates based on the number of turns passed, with the maximum effects being 50% crit rate and 8-10% dodge rate after 10 turns.
  • HP to One: Her most powerful attack as a boss inflicts this, as well as scrambles skill cooldowns to make it very hard to recover from. Her Summer version can also do this as one of her skills, but in this case, you probably want it so that you can exploit Enmity, and she also gives drain and a turn of invincibility, so you're not too vulnerable.
  • Light Is Good: A primal that is typically associated with Light and also a gentle, kind-hearted girl despite her role.
  • Leitmotif: "Higher Yet do the Astrals Dwell", which was introduced as her primary battle theme for her raid, as it plays whenever she gets serious. It has since gone on to get remixes as "Armageddon" for her Impossible level Raid and "The Peacemaker's Wings" for her battle theme in Versus.
  • Loyal Animal Companion: Two small dragons, Lyrn and Dyrn, accompany Zooey throughout her travels.
  • Miko: In order to understand more about Kleshas and the Joya, Zooey has to take apprenticeship under the four Divine Generals during the "Auld Lanxiety" event. She then gets to wear her own priestess robes and had to undergo purification rituals as a form of preparation.
  • Missed Him by That Much: When Zooey headed for the island to confront him, Geo had just left after sensing her approach towards his location.
  • Mix-and-Match Weapon: She wields a gunblade in her 5* uncap.
  • Multi-Melee Master: All Cosmic weapons are just her weapon in different forms and as such her weapon's form changes between her different versions (her limited versions use a sword, her regular gacha version uses a gun, and her event version uses a spear).
  • Mundane Object Amazement: Some conversations during her Fate Episodes, and the "Auld Lanxiety" event are about her curiosity of the objects that she encounters for the first time, such as a waterfall, a rice cracker, and a juice.
  • Mundane Utility: In her swimsuit version's 2nd Fate episode, she utilizes her abilities to form an inflatable version of the Peacemaker's Wings to ride the water with. Though she does wonder if it's okay to use her abilities to do something like this.
  • Mythical Motifs: Dragons are heavily associated with her, symbolizing the incredible power she wields.
  • O.O.C. Is Serious Business: Zooey had always been firmly on the Captain's side and aids them throughout the years she appeared in event stories. However, Zooey eventually turns back to her original Grand Order state and tries to take the Captain down for being the "Enemy of the World" without giving the Captain and the rest of the crew a single explanation as to why the Captain would be considered the "Enemy of the World" now in the 8th year anniversary event, Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies, something is clearly wrong and doesn't add up, especially based on how she had mostly been on the skydwellers' side. Part 2 of the event later reveals that the one who struck the Captain down is the Arbitrator Cosmos, and then Part 3 opens with the real Zooey that the crew knows to show up, revealing that the Grand Order that attacked the Captain is essentially another manifestation of Cosmos.
  • Our Centaurs Are Different: She can fuse with one of her dragons to become a massive, draconic-centaur.
  • Power Floats: She's capable of floating above the ground in her Awakened Arbitrator form.
  • Promoted to Playable: Introduced to the game as a summon, then later as a raid boss, and then as a playable character.
  • Ray Gun: The weapon she wields in her regular gacha version acts like one, and fires a giant laser beam as a variation of the Gamma Ray.
  • The Reveal: After Created by the Stars, Loved by the Skies, her entire character can be looked at in a new light, as she's no longer simply the primal-like entity that was born from the wishes of the sky dwellers who exists to keep the world in balance. She is an off-shoot, or surrogate, of the original arbitrator Cosmos who manifested in the sky realm to act out Cosmos' role as an arbitrator in her stead, as Cosmos herself could not never the Astral realm. None of this was implied before this event, and Cosmos as a character was only name-dropped off-handedly by Geo and Zooey in Primal Resonance, which Zooey-event timeline wise was one event ago, leaving little build-up for the reveal outside of Cosmos' debut event.
  • Running Gag: Two in the Grand Blues! comics, which may sometimes overlap:
    • "Zooey learns something new everyday!" - When being a godly entity makes her interested in several mortal affairs, with the comics ending with this phrase accompanied with a smiling Zooey.
    • "Zooey's Paradox" - She has a fixation on maintaining balance no matter how absurd the subject might be, from the male-female population ratio, up to the sales charts between restaurants. All of these would mostly fail miserably with Zooey lamenting that she herself broke the balance despite being known as the Keeper of Balance.
  • Ship Tease: Is implied to have feelings for the protagonist if her seasonal lines are anything to go by. The narration even states that she blushes when sitting beside them.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Like Lucio to the Lucifer summon, she was introduced to be this to the Grand Order summon. Though unlike him, she is actually the playable version of the summon and not a separate entity. Maybe.
  • Technicolor Blade: Zooey wields the Cosmos Weapon series, which are entirely blue.
  • Uniqueness Value: Her Summer version, which has a skill that gives the entire party the full benefits of an enmity grid, makes her the most sought-after character for Dark, Wind, and Fire teams. This led to her Summer version being excluded from the 4th anniversary Surprise Ticket which marketed itself by allowing players to buy holiday variants of any character except Zooey. She and her unlock weapon were "Promoted" to Grand series, meaning that while she won't count as a summer character, she'll be in every Flash Gala pool.
  • The Unpronounceable: Her actual name isn't properly pronounceable by humanoid vocal chords. However, she dislikes being called by her Primal Beast name of "Grand Order". And when meeting her for the first time, the party eventually hits on "Zooey" as a compromise for a name, being a series of sounds reasonably close to part of her proper name.
  • Updated Re-release: Her "Keeper on a Mission" skin from the "Primal Resonance" event is simply a free re-released outfit of her original "Visa Promo" playable version. She keeps the traditional sword-and-shield weapon, but with a new in-game sprite, a much more noticeable Art Evolution and a rather cute Idle Animation where Zooey constantly plays with her dragon.
  • What Is This Thing You Call "Love"?:
    • Part of her Christmas lines have her talking to herself, wondering why her heart is beating so fast and why her cheeks feel warm when she's around the protagonist. She then quickly dismisses this newfound feeling after the protagonist calls her attention. She feels it again during her second Christmas lines, saying it feels strange but not unwelcome. Rather, she says it's a good feeling.
    • And then, for her second Valentine's: "THIS IS LOVE!" (She proceeds to describe the platonic ideal of love vis-a-vis Valentine's day... and also notes, still with confusion, that spreading her "love" to the Captain makes her feel different compared to the other gifts.)
  • The Worf Effect: For all the descriptions of her being a special Primal that’s incredibly powerful and charged with keeping the balance of the world, she sure does fail a lot in her various appearances. This is played up even more so when she loses to Belial and Beelzebub in Granblue Versus, as both are aware of her role but don’t take her seriously in the slightest.
