Gran and Djeeta
Relink
Versus
Versus: Rising

The Main Character which the player controls throughout the game. You can choose either Gran, the male protagonist (and titular character) or Djeeta, the female protagonist, (whose name is derived from Taji, the "tasy" part of Fantasy in Japanese, phonetically backwards).

They are the child of a famous skyfarer, but he disappeared in their childhood with only a letter's promise to come to Estalucia, the legendary island of the Astrals. They've been waiting for years at their childhood home of Zinkenstill, idly dreaming and waiting with best friend Vyrn for the day they meet him again. That is, until an Erste airship passing by has a sudden explosion and a blue-haired girl falls into the nearby forest...

Uniquely for a gacha game protagonist, they fight on the front lines alongside their party members. Due to their nature as an unit, the Captain is one of the most versatile units in your party and has flexibility that allows them to fill out any necessary role you want to fill in your party.

    open/close all folders

Both captains provides examples of these following tropes:

    A-H
  • The Ace: Gran/Djeeta start off as rookies but turn into genius fighters and unquestionably paragon leaders to a Legion of the greatest badasses in the Granblue universe.
  • Achievements in Ignorance: By the time of the introduction of the Onmyoji class, the Captain has gained loads of experience that they accidentally exorcised a power-hungry spirit seal, which they've only known onmyodo as just fairy tales beforehand.
  • Age-Gap Romance: While it's not quite a romance (on the Captains part at least), they're forced into an arranged marriage with the Golden Knight as the final decree of the True King before he abdicates the throne despite her being 28 while they're still presumably 15. Lyria comments on how strange this is.
  • The Ageless: Possibly. As of this writing, Lyria and Vyrn explicitly mention how ten years have passed since the start of their adventures, yet Gran/Djeeta are still considered to be 15 years old. It's quite possible their lifelink with Lyria after they initially died may have stopped their physical aging, which chronologically puts them at 25 years old.
  • Ambiguously Gay: Outside of the series' main game, Djeeta is usually depicted as being more into women than showing interest in men. Versus for example has her aweing at other girls like Narmaya and Katarina in an overtly attracted tone. Whether this is to show that she's a lesbian or just played up for the purpose of Fanservice is unknown.
  • Ambiguously Human: Though treated as human in the story for all intents and purposes, their categorization as "Other" (presumably for gameplay purposes due to their omnipresense in parties) has led to speculation to just how much Lyria's life link affected them.
  • An Adventurer Is You: There are more than 20 classes available for you to pick from and master; this includes RPG staples like fighter, wizard, thief and ranger, or more extravegent picks like Valkyrie, Superstar, Asparas and Luchador.
  • Armor Is Useless: Djeeta in particular doesn't wear nearly as much armor as Gran does, her outfits instead veering towards lighter wear for the sake of fanservice. None of that deters from her stats however, being the same as Gran's.
  • Arranged Marriage: In chapter 155 of the main story, they end up in one with Allilah by the now former True King's order before he abidicates the throne, leaving the Captain to rule the kingdom in his stead. That said, Allilah claims it's for public image purposes.
  • Art Evolution: The protagonists' default Fighter class artworks are re-drawn to match the updated aesthetics of Granblue Fantasy: Relink, but they still retain their poses. An update on March 2019 imported said artworks to the mobile game, updating the visuals of the class.
  • Ass Kicks You: Part of Djeeta's multiattack animation, if the player is using the Luchador class, has her slam into the enemy ass-first.
  • Badass Adorable: Both Gran and Djeeta are quite cute, and being the main character, are one of the most powerful characters in the game. You'll hear remarks about their looks from many of their companions.
  • Bag of Spilling: In the Love Live! Crossover event, the captain temporarily forgot his/her swordsmanship abilities as a result of Nihilith robbing their sense of hope.
  • Battle Aura: As a reference to the Super Saiyan God SS from Dragon Ball Super, the "Guider to the Eternal Edge" outfit will provide a flaming blue aura to the captain when the Charge bar is full.
  • Beneath the Mask: Under their heroism throughout the Skydoms and earnestness to find Estalucia is deep turmoil over their dad leaving them at such a young age and desperately wanting some kind of closure or connection for this emotional scar.
  • Big Damn Heroes: The Captain will enter the scene to save someone just in the nick of time in several different occasions, such as Fate Episodes where the featured character gets into danger before meeting the crew.
  • Boobs-and-Butt Pose: Djeeta's Luchador artwork is shown like this, her torso facing away barely enough to show both sides of her body.
  • Bring It: In Vania's Fate episode, she makes a nice-looking but foul-tasting soup, and when she asks the Captain how it tastes, one of the available responses is "Bring me the whole pot!".
  • But Thou Must!: The player generally isn't given many options when it comes to making choices in the game due to how linear the story is, though some instances stand out, such as the 8th anniversary story event which spent a majority of the event building up to a choice the player had to make on whether they would choose life or death. Come the time to actually answer the question, the player isn't actually given the option to choose death, with Lyria lampshading that the choice to live is obvious before the option even shows up.
  • Canon Identifier: They're frequently referred to as Captain for leading everyone in their crew. Note this specifically applies to the crew, not the ship, as Rackam is indisputably in charge of the ship.
  • Canon Name: Gran if male and Djeeta if female. This applies to any appearances outside the main game where characters actually refer to them by name instead of just "Captain".
  • Can't Drop the Hero: They get their own separate section in the party screen compared to regular characters. Interestingly, while human, the protagonist is counted in the "Other" race for gameplay purposes, since it would otherwise cripple any non-human party. In-universe, this was somewhat explained by the fact that Sandalphon, the primarch angel Lucifer and a beast known as The Great One calls them a singularity. A latter update plays with this by allowing other characters to be used as a "skin". The skills and stats are still that of the protagonist, but the appearance, charge attack (though not the damage and effects), and any voice interactions they have with other party members changes to match another character.
  • Chainmail Bikini: A lot of Djeeta's class-based outfits lean towards lingerie, even though Gran comes equipped with full armor for many of them. Stand outs include Valkyrie and Spartan which are quite literally bikinis with shoulder plates.
  • Changing of the Guard: In the EX-2 Runeslayer Quest line, the Elderly Woman is revealed to be the previous Runeslayer who now retires and settles down. She called upon warriors and magicians including the captain, Grea, Anne and Owen to have the magic sword choose its next wielder, and our protagonist just fits the bill.
  • Character Name Limits: While the first time you name them can be as however long as you want (due to it being based on your Mobage account username), subsequent renames are limited to six characters.
  • Chaste Hero: For all the Ship Tease they get, they don't often show any interest in taking any of their friendships to the next level, not even with Lyria who is clearly in love with them.
  • Chick Magnet: Many female characters (such as Vira, Narmaya, and Lyria) either implicitly fall in love, or feel a great feeling of affection towards the Captain.
  • A Child Shall Lead Them: They're a teenager but are appointed the next True King after the original True King abdicates the throne in the main story quest.
  • Childhood Friends: The protagonist and Vyrn have been best friends ever since the former was still a little kid. The "No Rain, No Rainbow" event expands on this with a flashback.
  • The Chosen One:
    • "What Makes The Sky Blue" reveals that they are the "singularity" upon which the fate of the world revolves around, whether it lead to salvation or ruin. The Primarchs subsequently choose to bestow their tetra-elemental power upon them, causing Shiva, Alexiel, Grimnir, and Europa to take an interest in them. It's further explained in chapter 118 that the title of "singularity" is bestowed upon whomever unites the red dragon (Vyrn) and girl in blue (Lyria). Lucilius and Belial's words also seem to indicate that there might have been other singularities in the past before, but that something about the protagonist is special, solidifying this trope even along this category.
    • The Six Dragons sidequest reveals another title, the "singular pigment", which is currently unexplained beyond the idea that they will interfere with the natural order with their mere existence and thus must be destroyed by the dragons.
  • Chronic Hero Syndrome: Like a typical gacha protagonist, the captain and Lyria will immediately interfere when they see someone harassing the other, or jump in as a backup when the other is in a pinch. This is a trait that is very much evident in almost every Fate episode, story or collaboration event.
  • Clark Kent Outfit: Gran in his default outfit doesn't seem all that cut when you look at him. When he takes on an outfit that ditches his shirt though, he reveals himself to be jacked under that sweatshirt; just take a look at him in Luchador gear.
  • Clothes Make the Superman: Most of their EX II class quests play out like this, as the mysterious Elderly Woman provides unique clothing that allows the captain to survive specific trials.
  • Clothing Damage: Djeeta's "Alter Ego Conjurer" outfit shows some tears in her chest and waist areas, making her look even more deranged as a result.
  • Clothing Reflects Personality: Sometimes with classes or skins, their personality is shown to be different than what they’re usually depicted as, Chaos Ruler for example making them look more domineering in their body language as they glare from a throne with their weapons.
  • Clueless Chick-Magnet: Even if you were to discount the debatably canon seasonals, many female characters are inexplicably attracted to them, with Lyria being among them. The protagonist, being a Chaste Hero, doesn't appear to reciprocate their feelings except Lyria's, possibly.
  • Cope by Pretending: This is sadly the way in which the Captain deals with their relationship with their Father, many characters, for both benign and malicious reasons, rightly point out that their Father ditched them and a letter is poor consolation for fifteen years of neglect but, rather than acknowledge this, the Captain goes into straight up denial and reinforces their desire to see them again, if only to get answers. This is not aided by Vyrn's Sad Clown tendencies and becomes the main problem of the No Rain, No Rainbow event.
  • Corrupt the Cutie: Doesn’t happen in any canon storyline, but some of their classes and skins show them being changed for the worst, such as all three of Belial’s skins (Alter Ego Conjurer and Malevolent/Forbidden Alter Ego) or the Tormentor class which make them look depraved and sadistic.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: The Yamato class is solely designed around cancelling Omens in V2 battles. Outside of V2 content, the class is basically dead weight. In fact, their base skill, Take the Head, is only usable when a cancellable Omen is active.
  • Cutscene Incompetence: It doesn't matter how powerful the players through their character progressions and item grids, the captain is always steps weaker than the current event's main threat, usually forcing the player to use basic skills (like Rage/Phalanx/Panacea I or a special healing spell called "Just The Cure" that appears often) and no access to the item grids, usually to further emphasizes characters involved so they look stronger in that story battle. Averted in the main story battles where you can choose which team to fight the current threat, even if you had to fight with a predetermined team since you still have access to the select item grid/summon pool.
  • Deadly Doctor: The aptly named "Doctor" class makes them wear modern white labcoats, yet they can still fight like normal, using daggers or guns.
  • Deadpan Snarker: Some of their dialogue options can cross into this, such as when Lucius requests them to prevent Lyria from going through with Ryan's suggested brother-sister role-play.
    "Be nice, brother!"
  • Demoted to Extra: More so than in most other storylines, they play second fiddle (or fourth if you include Lyria and Vyrn in it) to Sandalphon in the "What Makes the Sky Blue" storyline from "Paradise Lost" onwards, as Sandalphon is treated as the central character with pretty much everything revolving around him. This is especially prominent in "Tower of Babyl" where one can even forget that the protagonist is there at all because of how little they do compared to Sandalphon and Cagliostro.
  • Disappeared Dad: Their father had left their home island a while ago. They have no idea what he's up to right now.
  • Divine Date: They have gotten Ship Tease with numerous Primals, who are essentially the God's of the Granblue Fantasy world. Then there is their tease ridden relationship with Lyria, who is implied to be connected to Astral Bahamut in some way.
  • Doppelgänger: A pitch-black silhouette resembling the captain guards the apple tree in the "Persona 5: Thievery in Blue" event.
  • Draw Sword, Draw Blood: In the Kengo EX-2 class quest, the captain went into a short bloodlust, aimlessly swinging the weapon, after a broken demonic blade took control of their body. It took the assistance of the Elderly Woman and the Kengo outfit for the captain to regain their self.
  • Dual Wielding: The Gladiator and Chrysaor classes allow you to dual-wield swords.
  • Everyone Calls Him "Barkeep":
    • While early in the game's life, the voiceover just avoided addressing the player altogether (a gimmick which Lyria and Vyrn maintain to this day), later voiceover takes to having all characters address the player character as some variant of "Danchou-san", which essentially means "Captain" in a crew-captain sense, as that's their job. Japanese fans tend to refer to the character like this as a result.
    • In Titanic Yeager, however, the cast from Attack on Titan doesn't have them address the player in a variant of "Danchou", following a gimmick similar to Lyria and Vyrn.
    • The primarchs, Sandalphon, and Belial all refer to the player as "Singularity" in light of the events in "What Makes The Sky Blue", which also doubles as a Red Baron since it is a title given in the prophecies.
    • The Six Dragons refer to them as the "singular pigment" that interferes with the coloration of the natural order. After their misunderstanding is cleared up and their wackier personalities shine through, they refer to them as "Singularity" like the above group.
    • The True King and his inner circle refer to them as the "venerable child" for unknown reasons.
  • The Everyman: Gran and Djeeta are normal and well relatable heroes trying to do their best and are more leveled compared to their eccentric crewmates.
  • Even the Guys Want Him / Even the Girls Want Her: The implications of the gender limitations being removed from the game for Valentine’s and White Day events, allowing any character of any gender to romance the captain.
  • Experienced Protagonist: They already know how to fight with the sword ever since the tutorial level.
  • Fairy Companion: The Manadiver class fights with Manaturas, small sprites that fight alongside the Manadiver and provide unique effects based on which Manatura is used.
  • Fantasy Keepsake: The episodes for unlocking the Seraphic Weapons make it seem that the tetra-elemental Primarchs, Halluel, Malluel and Belial are speaking through the captain's dreams. But as soon as the weapon is crafted, the captain wakes up to find it in their bed.
  • Fashionable Asymmetry: Only their right arm has a full shoulder armor, the other side is merely clothing.
  • Fighting Clown: Some of the captain's classes are quite silly-looking, such as the Lumberjack that fights with woodland critters and the Nekomancer which uses cat magic. This does not make them any less powerful in combat. In fact, the Nekomancer is the upgrade to the decidedly more serious Mystic class.
  • Firing One-Handed: The captain always fires their equipped gun using one hand, even if those are long-barreled rifles or Hand Cannons.
  • The Gadfly: Based on their interactions with most of the characters during Halloween, they always pick trick just to see how they react with the recipient either getting very flustered or annoyed that they have to do a trick right on the spot. Outside of that, some of their dialogue choices in several free quest cutscenes and fate episodes has them tease other characters as well.
  • Game-Favored Gender: Gran, the male hero, is the initial stand-in protagonist, while Djeeta is relegated mostly to side material like April Fool's events and the Grand Blues! yonkoma. Official art tends to avoid this by depicting the two of them existing simultaneously, however.
    • According to Word of God in a 2020 Famitsu interview, despite Djeeta appearing to be stronger than Gran in the spin-off material, they’re actually on the same power level with Djeeta only seemingly having more skill/experience in order to differentiate the two protagonists from each other for fear that them being too similar would be "boring". More in-jokes are also incorporated into her character to separate her from being more of a traditional RPG protagonist like Gran, like Versus giving her powers he doesn't have like conjuring the power of the Eternals or fighting more with rekkas ala a Street Fighter character.
  • Gameplay and Story Integration: In Chapter 124, Lyria is dragged into the Otherworld, with the captain remaining in the Skydom. Yet, their Synchronization still applies as the captain suddenly shares Lyria's physical pains. In the chapter's Scripted Battle, you are always in the "critical health" animation even at full HP, and take plain damage akin to the Poisoned Status Effect despite having no indicators of any status debuffs on the captain. Due to Lyria's absence following that chapter, the captain can't summon anything in the chapters that follow.
  • Gendered Outfit: While the male and female protagonists have similar themes in their outfits, Djeeta, the female protagonist, outfits tend to lean toward more feminine and fanservice-y themes in a Male Gaze kind of way while Gran’s outfits, while fanservice-y in their own way at times, take more of a "cool" looking approach. There’s also the recurring motif of Blue Boy, Pink Girl between them, though at times Djeeta will be drawn wearing blue.
  • Girly Bruiser: Most of the classes Djeeta can take on make no sacrifice to her cuteness and femininity, resulting in playstyles like Grappler, Kung-fu and Ogre which rely on brute strength while still having her cute as a button.
  • Good Counterpart: In "Reflections of White Clover" the Captain serves as one of these to Garoza. Garoza is, to put it plainly, a scumbag who took advantage of Krelkulkil´s need for revenge to make a quick buck and didn't really put all that much effort into helping him, unknowingly driving him further and further into the Demon Blade's corrupting influence. By contrast the Captain, Lyria and Vyrn care deeply for Sevilbarra, act as his Morality Chain, and spend all effort trying to help him, even contacting the Luminiere Knights to find Corwell. This plays into the tragedy of both Harvins, whereas Sevilbarra is able to find Corwell first and start the path to find closure, Krelkulkil is consumed by all the times he needlessly drew the cursed blade and goes insane.
  • Healing Hands: Can learn healing skills from certain classes. They also use curative magic during Diantha's second Christmas line to heal her hand after she burned it baking a cake.
  • The Heart: In an extent, they're the ones that keep the group together. Sandalphon exploits this in his near defeat by pushing them off the cliff in the ending of "What Makes The Sky Blue" and have them fall from the skies to make Lyria and Vyrn go on a rampage, losing control of their powers from it and possibly destroy the Phantagrande kingdoms in the process. What stopped them from going on a full rampage is that Katalina and everyone else reminds them that there is still hope.
  • Hello, [Insert Name Here]: The game lets you pick the name of your character. In dialogue, when your name appears in the text box, the voice acting will usually skip it altogether or call you some variant of danchou/captain note . There is a Canon Name for both the male and female protagonist but it doesn't bring anything over any other name.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Their canonical appearances are depicted using a sword and they have exclusively been using swords in the anime. In a sense of Gameplay and Story Integration, some scripted battles of later story events will place the Captain into their initial Fighter class, whose default is a shortsword.
  • Heroic BSoD:
    • The final moments of chapter 118 implies this when the crew finds out that the captain may have to fight their father due to their conflicting missions. Subverted when the captain decides to go for Estalucia anyway even if they have to fight against their father.
      I...
    • In the "Seeds of Redemption" event, the captain became depressed after learning from Lecia that their father left Zinkenstill, but still managed to visit the Karm Clan and take care of Seox at one point. Imagine knowing that your parent left you just to take care of another child. Our protagonist did not take this well at first, and ran into a nearby lake for seclusion. It took some words of comfort from Vyrn for the captain to break out of this mood.
Vyrn: Guess I'm thinking the same thing you are: why'd he leave you behind just to go take care of some other kid...
  • Heroic Build: Gran is the nicest person you can have the fortune of meeting, and is completely ripped to match.
  • Heroic RRoD: In Chapter 127, the captain almost faints and collapses after a prolonged separation from Lyria, with their Life Link hanging in the balance.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: In the prologue video for Granblue Fantasy Project Re:Link, Gran took a blow that was aimed at Lyria and fell to a Deep Sleep as the attack breaks the link that Lyria has on his life to keep him alive. One of the team's main objectives is to re-establish the broken link to bring him back.
  • High School AU: Djeeta makes an appearance in Princess Connect as a New Transfer Student, completely outside the confines of GBF's world.
  • Hyper-Awareness: Does pull this off at times, since they're the player character and should notice the things the player themselves notice. For example, what's happening with Izmir and her illness does not escape the Captain's notice, even when everyone else is enraptured by a fireworks show.

    I-Z
  • Idol Singer: Along with Vira, Lyria, and Mary, Djeeta becomes one for an event. Gran's the producer, but he seems to want in on it as well.
  • Improbable Use of a Weapon: The Luchador class starts all battles with their equipped weapon at the ready as any other class, but destroys it as part of their "brandishing" animation before their first attack, opting to use their bare hands every time.
  • Improbable Weapon User: There are tons of strange and bizarre weapons they can use in combat from a dakimakura to a bowl of piping hot ramen to Conan's enhanced shoes (which wouldn't be strange if not for the fact that they put the shoes on their hands).
  • Interspecies Friendship: The captain is very open to accepting anyone in the Grandcypher crew regardless of their race, further developing into this as each of the characters' relationship to their captain is explored by certain events.
  • Item Caddy: The Bounty Hunter class specializes in landing the Bounty debuff on enemies, and you can set the captain's class to have three skills that do nothing but increase drop rates.
  • Jack of All Stats: Fully mastering a class provides permanent stat bonuses for the Captain regardless of the currently equipped class, and they also stack. They also have the most Extended Mastery Nodes which also includes Attack and Defense buffs for all six elements.
  • Jack of All Trades: Thanks to the Job System along with the Skill Slot System, the Captain can become an all-around unit. Especially with the higher tier classes which provide a free skill slot for abilities earned through leveling other classes. Nothing's stopping you from placing a Healing or Debuffing skill in an Attack-oriented class. You can also have a wide selection of Charge Attack effects depending on your equipped mainhand weapon.
  • Jerk with a Heart of Gold: They can be played as this if the player continuously chooses their snarky or unfriendly dialogue options. That said, choosing the snarkier options doesn't really affect the gameplay, story progression, or relationships with the characters outside of eliciting a different reaction than if you would have chosen a friendlier option from the dialogue tree. As well, the protagonist will always do the right thing in the end, regardless of how you choose to portray them.
  • Job System: Each job class has their own unique skills and outfit that distinguish them, granting the protagonist a ton of teambuilding options.
  • Just a Kid: Some of the older characters you can recruit are quite skeptical at how strong the Captain can be given their age (they're fifteen years old), commonly leading to Underestimating Badassery sometimes. This is apparent with Vaseraga in the "Footprints on Sacred Ground" event where he's displeased with the thought of Zeta getting kids involved for their mission. Averted in the Detective Conan collaboration event where Conan and Amuro were able to deduce that they are the captain. Though it's justified because the characters in question are skilled detectives.
    • Sandalphon "just a child"-zones the player on several occassions, particularly when they're not engaging in battle to save the world from destruction. Perhaps justified since Sandalphon appears to be quite young himself, he's well over 2000 years old.
  • "Just Joking" Justification: Picking the meaner or more selfish dialogue options will often result in either the captain or the other characters assuring the person that they're speaking to that they're just kidding.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: Two of their Katana-specialty classes, Samurai and Kengo can have Charge Bar levels beyond 100%, allowing more than a single Limit Break on the same turn.
  • Lost in Translation: Gran and Djeeta's names are both in the Japanese pronunciation of the title, GRANblue FanTAJII. Not so much in the English pronunciation, Granblue Fantasy.
  • Magic Knight: The Runeslayer EX-2 class is a master of the tetra-elements, yet can wield bladed weapons and is categorized under the Ninja class line.
  • Magnetic Hero: They welcome anyone that would tag along with the crew on their adventure, be it the strange ones or rude ones. Among the colorful cast they recruit are primordial deities, Ax-Crazy blade users, the living dead, and so on.
  • Marionette Master: Inverted in the case of their "Alter Ego Conjurer" outfit where Gran/Djeeta are controlled by some sinister Guardian Entity via red strings.
  • Masked Luchador: The aptly named Tier 4 variant of the Grappler class line is a masked luchador wrestler.
  • Missing Mom: The protagonist's mother is never mentioned in the main story, and is only referenced during the Miscolored Memories event, which turns out to be Oneiros in disguise, rather than their actual mother. The subject is brought up in Amira's second birthday line as she asks about their mother. Their reply is that they don't remember her too well. While the third arc of the main story reveals that the captain's mother came from a line of priestesses and is one of their father's allies during his journey, Versus reveals that the time-displaced Rein is their mother, whose appearance not resembling Gran or Djeeta is attributed to Bahamut's power changing her hair color.
  • Modesty Shorts: In Relink, both Djeeta's regular dress and new outfit have a pair of shorts underneath, so as to avoid any inappropriate shots in gameplay.
  • Morality Pet: Even characters who have shown antagonistic sides (such as Sandalphon and Olivia) become friendly towards the protagonists. The former, thanks to a Heel–Face Turn now treats them as a friend, while the latter slowly opens up to them in some event scenarios.
  • Mr. Fanservice: Gran gets in on it via outfits like Luchador and Nighthound which expose his physique, but he's nowhere near the model that Djeeta is.
  • Ms. Fanservice: Djeeta provides a lot of this through her class outfits which show off a lot more skin than anything Gran gets.
  • Mythology Gag: In "What Makes The Sky Blue III: 000", the in-game artworks for the default Fighter class gets replaced with their updated versions from Granblue Fantasy: Relink.
  • New Powers as the Plot Demands: In the "A Thousand Reasons" event which focuses on a melee Tournament Arc, the Captain ditches their swordplay in favor of the melee-oriented Luchador class.
  • Nice Guy: Outside of the main game, Gran and Djeeta are frequently depicted as kind and friendly people, and generally get along with most of their crew.
  • Not Allowed to Grow Up: While this applies to nearly everyone in the game, it’s significant for them as they’re involved in most of the events in some way. No matter how time is implied to have past, they never seem to age.
  • No Sense of Direction: He gets the party lost repeatedly on their way to ruins in episode 8 of the anime. Vyrn explains that he's always been like this and even occasionally got lost in Zinkenstill.
  • Not So Above It All: Some dialogue options in the other crewmembers' fate episodes allows the captain to ride along with their hijinks if you choose to do so, oftentimes to Vyrn and Lyria's surprise, like rapping on Summer J.J.'s episode.
  • Offered the Crown: Or rather, being ascended to royalty was forced onto them after the True King abruptly abidicated the throne, announcing that the protagonist will marry his daughter and rule in his stead. They only reluctantly agree to it when realizing that ruling may help them in their quest to look for their missing aunt, father and find their way to the island of the Astrals.
  • Oblivious to Love: Gran is depicted as this outside of the game, and sometimes within it when the game has scenarios that favors his presence over Djeeta's. He isn't aware of why Lyria gets jealous when other women come onto him or when he talks about other women in front of her.
  • Offhand Backhand: In the 13th episode of the anime, Djeeta (who was busy talking to Rosetta) nonchalantly strikes an Imperial soldier in the head without even glancing in his direction.
  • Paper-Thin Disguise: Their masked persona in "A Thousand Reasons", where everyonenote  including the Big Bad realizes that Masked Cypher is the Captain. Then you realize the said persona's sprite is the very same one they used for the Luchador class.
  • Pelts of the Barbarian: The Berserker Class is dressed in animal hide, with a stuffed wolf head even serving as a helmet.
  • Pink Girl, Blue Boy: If their default Fighter outfit is anything to go by, Gran and Djeeta's color motifs are commonly blue and pink respectively. This is also subtly applied in the anime's title cards - A blue outline for Gran who appears in Episodes 1 to 12, while the 13th and 14th have pink, as they feature Djeeta as the protagonist.
  • Power Dyes Your Hair: The "Guider to the Eternal Edge" skin changes the captain's hair color to light blue when the Charge bar is full, complete with a Battle Aura. In "Old Bonds", it marks the first time the protagonist "goes blue" in story, but the amount of power coursing through causes them to lose control and nearly attack Siete.
  • Power Glows: The weapon used by the Glorybringer class will glow once it is Awakened. Its color varies depending on its element.
  • Power Limiter: They have the power to block certain magical effects like Lily's aura of cold. It's unknown why they have this power. With "What Makes The Sky Blue" revealing that they are the singularity in which the world's fate revolves around, then it meant that being the singularity meant they have the capability to limit or block out the powers of someone completely. As hinted when Magisa lost her ability of future sight while being around them.
  • Protagonist Title: Inverted with the game's title wherein Gran and Djeeta are derived from Granblue Fantasy. "Gran" is obvious as the first syllable, while "Djeeta" is derived from reversing the last two syllables when pronounced in Japanese ("Fantasy" -> Fantaji -> Taji -> Jita -> Djeeta).
  • Purely Aesthetic Gender: You can switch between Gran and Djeeta however you please and the game story-wise will switch around according to the protagonist you're playing as. The only time it actually matters is with characters like Lilele and Herja who have skills that only benefit one gender which can be quickly circumvented by the aforementioned switch.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: The class Chrysaor is named after a child of Medusa and Poseidon.
  • She Is the King: The protagonist is referred to as the "True King" in the main story quest even if you're playing as Djeeta.
  • Sherlock Scan: The captain is quick to deduce from a glance that Catherine is Nightsmoke when she dropped her jewel during a chase in the night. Then suddenly, she is missing a jewel the next day while working as "Cathy". However, the captain kept that secret until Catherine made a deal with them and joined the Grandcypher.
  • Ship Tease: While it's usually relegated to seasonal lines, the protagonist (both of them, yes) gets a lot of this with their various crewmates. Some notable female examples include Vira, Anthuria, Clarisse, and Diantha. On the male end, there's Percival, Cain (in seasonal lines), Aglovale, Grimnir, and Veight.
  • Significant Birth Date: In Princess Connect, Djeeta's birthday is revealed to be on March 10th, which is the same day Granblue Fantasy started service.
  • Skill Slot System: The player can select a subskill for any of the captain's classes (one for Tier 1-3 and EX1 classes and 2 subskills for Tier 4 and EX2 classes), and/or one Extended Mastery Skill depending on the class line.
  • Slasher Smile: When you choose to trick Beatrix in her Halloween version's Fate Episode, the narration describes the captain putting a "devilish smile on their face".
  • Smoking Is Cool: Djeeta is dressed like an oiran in her Bounty Hunter outfit. And her victory animation and artwork has her briefly and coolly smoking from a kiseru.
  • Stab the Sky: They hold the weapon overhead on both hands when using the "Awaken" skill of the Swordmaster / Glorybringer classes.
  • Stepford Smiler: Explored at in No Rain, No Rainbow. Gran/Djeeta put the responsibilities of being the captain high and underneath their strong willed facade, they also hide loneliness of having a Disappeared Dad despite admiring him for his adventures and little to no memories of their Missing Mom.
Phoebe: Holding in that kind of pain, dealing with it alone... It eats you up inside. I... I know.
  • Strong as They Need to Be: The Captain has a bad case of this, especially in the late game. They can go from defeating all ten Eternals on their own (lorewise), hold back Lucilius at his full power and later defeat him with Sandalphon's help, defeat Beelzebub with the help of Sandalphon and Cagliostro and can be considered a legitimate candidate for the World's Strongest Man. Then, in order to show off a new character or the danger the crew is in, they proceed to be unable to handle a bunch of monsters, be defeated by the vastly less powerful Loki and Fenrir, or in some cases simply be overwhelmed by a bunch of Mooks in order to be saved by the new character in question.
  • Strong Family Resemblance: The high priestess who is revealed to be their aunt looks like an adult version of Djeeta, the female protagonist.
  • Suddenly Voiced:
    • After a fashion - in personal seasonal scenes with characters like Yggdrasil and Tiamat (who are incapable of standard speech), the Captain suddenly gains an internal monologue they possess in no other scene, so that the narration makes sense.
    • If you get the bonus skins from the Japanese volumes 6 or 7 of the GBF anime or from the Djeeta DLC of Granblue Versus, the Captain will be voiced in battle when they are normally silent.
  • Synchronization: Lyria saves their life when a Hydra strikes them down by giving them her powers, giving the ability to summon Primal Beasts. Unfortunately, it also means that if they die, so does Lyria. Now that Lyria is playable, it also means that one of them getting knocked out of the fight also knocks out the other.
    • In the 12th episode of the anime, Lyria also experiences the same kind of pain in her body when Gran becomes partially sprayed by the acidic dark matter of Leviathan.
  • Theme Music Power-Up: As a Drum Master, Gran/Djeeta has Sanbagarasu Otoko Uta when certain conditions are fulfilled in battle.
  • The Stoic: In the anime, Gran compared to Djeeta is a quiet yet optimistic everyman with more calm and well behaved patience, and has a introverted side as well.
  • Tin-Can Robot: As a Mechanic, the captain is accompanied with a small metallic robot in battles. The player can choose its appearance and parts.
  • Took a Level in Badass: At the end of the first part of "Home Sweet Moon", Zeta's offering comes full circle and the Captain becomes a weapon contractor. This is actually an important plot point, as they are given control over Pyet-A, the most powerful Automagod at the Society's disposal, which, in combination with the conection to Lyria, disrupts Ellis' powers allowing the Society to fight back against him and Juana, and later proves powerful enough to force both of them into the defensive, allowing Isaac to take out Ellis and Gwynne to take out Juana.
  • True Companions: With Vyrn and Lyria. They've been through a lot together over the years and have the closeness to prove this. Across other works like the anime and fighting game, you almost never see the three apart.
  • Undercover as Lovers: Many Summer-themed story events and Fate Episodes have the protagonist to pretend as the lover of another Grandcypher crewmember (such as Rosetta, Ilsa and Tien to name a few), usually to drive away the unwanted attention of would-be suitors.
  • Virtual Paper Doll: You have a plethora of outfits to equip them with, either from job classes or events. Anything from fantasy archetypes like berserkers to Japanese high-schoolers is free game to pick from.
  • We Can Rule Together: In "Dancing Avengers", Wahid tries to recruit them to Ahabak when he becomes impressed by the captain's swordplay.
  • Weirdness Magnet: Discussed by Meteon in "Platinum Sky II" who wonders why seemingly mundane events often escalated whenever they are around.
  • Weapon Twirling: The Berserker class will rapidly spin the currently equipped weapon when preparing a Charge Attack.
  • When You Coming Home, Dad?: As much as Gran/Djeeta admired their father, they also harbor disappointment and frustration at how their father is never around for a majority of their life after he went to Estalucia and becomes a crux for the second half of the event, No Rain, No Rainbow, as the rest of the crew members are working together to help them out of this.
  • Whole Costume Reference: Many of the outfits they get from crossover events let them dress up as characters from other franchises. They can equip Survey Corps uniforms from Attack on Titan, dress as Ryu and Chun-Li from Street Fighter, or dress up as McDonald's workers.
  • Will They or Won't They?: Of any characters, the Captain and Lyria get the most Ship Tease with each other, have been through a lot over the years and clearly deeply care for one another. It's also clear that if there was going to be an endgame couple for the franchise, they would be it. That said, they've shown no signs of taking their relationship to the next level, likely due to the need to keep the player character open to having shippy interactions with the other characters in the cast without accidentally implying that the protagonist is cheating on Lyria.
  • The Worf Effect: Despite how many journey's they have been on and how many strong enemies they've defeated, if the story calls for them to lose, they'll lose. Yes, that even means the protagonist pretending that generic thug NPC's are legitimate threats.
  • Worf Had the Flu: In the "Auld Lanxiety" event, even the Captain gets affected by a negative Klesha, causing them to doubt the identities of their crewmates. This allows Zooey to consider Joya as a serious threat, as it can even affect the strongest person they have known so far. Fortunately, Bakura arrives just in time and banishes the Klesha from the captain.
  • Worthy Opponent: Many are amazed by the captain's fighting prowess and regards them as their worthy opponent. The ten Eternals accept the Captain to be greater than them individually. Even Mordecai remarks this upon fighting them in "Duelist of Eternity".
  • Wrecked Weapon: As part of their cold-hearted, uncaring badass demeanor, the Chaos Ruler class' will break their own weapon as part of their victory animation.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: Their Luchador class turns the captain to masked luchadors, with Gran even gaining muscles out of nowhere.

Primary Row Classes provides examples of the following tropes:

Fighter default outfit after What Makes The Sky Blue : 000

Click here for Weapon Master's default outfit

Click here for Viking's default outfit
Style: Attack
Weapon Speciality: Sabre/Axe
Class Line: Fighter -> Warrior -> Weapon Master -> Berserker -> Viking
Class Champion Weapons: Avenger -> Berserker Barrage

Fighters are the class specialized primarily in dealing damage, either through maximizing charge attacks, boosting multi-attack modifier, or buffing their damaging stats. They can wield Sabres and Axes as their primary mainhand, and gains the ability to equip secondary mainhand upon reaching Viking.

  • An Adventurer Is You: Primarily a Blademaster DPS with elements of Meat Shield Tank. Fighter-derived classes have some of the more consistent ways to boost overall damage whether through using multi-attack booster, damaging skills, or through using it's primary skill, Full Arsenal, which fill up user's charge bar and granting them damage boost. They also have thick enough HP to basically no need to worry about their survivability if attacked often.
    • Starting with Berseker, they also lean towards Scapper DPS thanks to Ulfhedinn allowing them to run through enemies with ease thanks to guaranteed triple attack. Viking further bolster their scrapping potential with Norden Harr and Vinland, the former grants triple attack to user when equipped with Sabre while the latter allows you to perform charge attacks three times in-a-row. Vikings also starts to dual wield their weapons and can equip two different weapon types thanks to the sub-weapon feature imported from Gladiator-Chrysaor line, but their skills functions differently compared to Gladiators/Chrysaor and functions more like the Lancer-derived class skills where it gives you extra effects based on equipped weapons, and you can have both effects if you equip both Sabre and Axe as your main and/or sub weapon.
  • Balance Buff: The class line pure focus to boost up damage and damage only makes it hard and niche because it has no way to break through damage cap other than critical damage and using Rage IV, which is rather expensive and doesn't give much (other damage cap up source is higher), and it's C.A. buffer is inferior compared to those of Chrysaor, Kengo, and especially Relic Buster, all of which has multiple ways to deal massive damage other than using charge attacks. To make the class line stand out more, a lot of buffs were made (along with others) to get it out of the niche hell;
    • Berserker (along with other Row IV classes) gets a new skill in form of "Ulfhedinn". By only expending all of your max charge bar, the captain gain massive offensive and defensive stats, echo damage, guaranteed TA, immunity to debuffs, and it lasts for 4 turns and can be recasted in 5 turns, the exact amount you get from Full Arsenal III, allowing the captain to gain 4 turn worth of power spike. The catch is that you can't use skills when it's active, and since it's treated as a buff, you can't cleanse it either, and it's also cannot be removed by other means, and you still had to find other ways to break the damage cap somehow. However you can still activate it anytime as long as you have cast your other skills before activating this one as long as you have enough charge bar when doing so, and the skill alone makes Rage IV and Rampage II obsolete. This alone gives the class much better viability and an alternative if you don't want to play Relic Buster, and probably one of the better Axe-mainhand class for quite some time until Viking came along.
    • The Row V class Viking gives the class line that not only elevates their damage to the roof thanks to Norden Harr giving the benefits of Ulfhedinn with more damage cap breaking option and none of the drawbacks, it also allows the captain to become a sub-buffer with Jomsborg and simple nuke-debuff that lowers both normal and elemental defense of the target. Two of their skill also gain extra benefit if you have the compatible sub-hand weapons (which you more likely would) and is generally more powerful when wielding both Sabre and Axe in tandem. The class line offensive capabilities are still inferior to Relic Buster, but it elevates the power level much higher and is now considered superior to Chrysaor and Kengo due to more powerful mainhand options.
    • The Ultimate Mastery update buffed the Berserker class significantly, as it gives the class a good boost to stats and 3 class-exclusive skills for the class line; A skill that gives all Sabre and Axe speciality allies boost to multiattack and 20% echo damage for 4 turns, a special buff that expends 25% of the captain's current HP every charge attack for a powerful Assasin modifier for 1 time, and a nuke that deals massive damage and inflict Mist-tier stat down as well as giving captain 50% Damage Cap Up, the highest you can obtain from any available source, on top of being automatically activated if you have the Ulfhedinn buff active. Combined with the multitude of new weapons that exactly designed for the class (like the infamous Ereshkigal and Hrunting), and the class itself quickly dominates the scene as one of the best Attacker in the game, rivalling (if not surpassing) Relic Buster.
  • The Berserker: Berserker class can evoke this with the skill "Ulfhedinn", which boost their damage and granting them guaranteed triple attack for a full 4 turn, but it locks the user from casting any other skills while the buff is still active, and it can't be removed.
  • Boring, but Practical: In comparison to many other specialized attackers, Fighter derived classes doesn't have the flash or flair that other more focused attackers like Gladiator-derived or the burst-oriented Relic Buster class, but they compensate for being mostly practical and being easy to use.
  • Cast from Hit Points: Bloodzerker consumes 25% of the captain's current HP everytime you activate their charge attack to give them a powerful Assassin buff that you can use in the next turn.
  • Charge Meter: Specializes in boosting your own Charge Bar more often than not, either using multiattack boosting skills or through using Full Arsenal or Vinland, though it's not as highly focused on filling charge bar like Mechanic, or Relic Buster. Vinland in particular gives you the ability to deal another charge attack for another two turns.
  • Dual Wielding: Viking starts to taking hints from Chrysaor and uses the same Sub-weapon system that allows them to wield two different type of weapon with the same element at the same time in battle. However unlike Chrysaor, the sub-weapon feature and their skills functions more like Lancer-derived classes where wielding different type of supported weapon grants them other effects based on the equipped weapon type, so you don't really need to equip compatible sub weapon to get their effects. Being able to wield two supported weapon types at the same time allows Viking to reap and sow both effects without the need to worry about their weapon grids.
  • Horny Vikings: The Viking class dons a large horned helmet in their sprite. You can swap the sprite with the helmetless one, just like Paladin.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Fighter has strong damaging power and generous multi-attack rate, allowing user to consistently deal charge attacks, while having thick enough health to not worry about being hit often, especially after you rank up to Berserker and/or Viking, which hits harder, faster, and eats up more damage than their Row III counterparts. The only thing that prevented the class for being a full on off-tank is that they have no dedicated tanking skills.
  • Nemean Skinning: Both Berserkers dons a wolf pelt to cover most of their head that also doubles as a coat.
  • Power Creep: Viking's Jomsborg is basically serves as one for Feower's Avirati.
  • Power-Up Letdown:
    • Rampage II grants user guaranteed double attack and 50% boost to triple attacks for three turns, but lowers your defense by 30%. It's generally not worth purchasing because the boost it provides can be obtained from other characters or skills, and it was quickly powercrept by Ulfhedinn below.
    • Downplayed with Ulfhedinn, which grants the user massive buffs to attack and defenses on top of being immune to debuffs and guaranteed triple attack for four turns straight, but costs all of the user's charge bar and locks them out from using other skills. It's still a highly potent buff if Gran/Djeeta is specialized in dealing high damage with their normal attacks instead of charge attacks. The Ultimate Mastery Skill "Beast Fang" synergizes well with it because it activates after attacking when the buff is active, providing a powerful nuke, debuff to the enemy and damage cap up for the captain.
  • Splash Damage: Viking's "Peerless Brawn" grants the ability to deal 2-hit damage to random foes when hitting your normal attacks. Unlike their Gladiator-derived counterpart, this effect is not cosmetic and benefits from supplemental damage.
  • Stripperiffic: Djeeta forgoes the full armoured look of the Berserker and settles with a Warrior Princess-esque outfit that exposes most of her torso areas.
  • Weapon Twirling: Berserkers occassionally twirls their currently held weapon when channeling for a charge attack or opening the skill menu.

Click here for Holy Saber default outfit
Click here for Spartan default outfit
Click here for Paladin default outfit

Style: Defense
Weapon Speciality: Sabre/Spear
Class Line: Knight -> Sentinel -> Holy Saber -> Spartan -> Paladin
Class Champion Weapons: Sknofung -> Guardian's Xiphos

Knight is your standard tank class, specializing in mitigating damage dealt towards the party with the ability "Phalanx", completely nullify all damage dealt to user/selected ally with "Centurion", or redirecting all attacks to user with "Substitute", in which none of the skills are mutually exclusive and can be cast anytime they're needed. They primarily gear themselves with Sabres and Spears as their choice of mainhand.

  • An Adventurer Is You: The Mitigation Tank. Knight-derived classes are specializing in reducing as much damage taken as possible in short to medium timeframe. Even moreso with Paladin, which further mitigates damage through DMG Mitigation and even Substitute-All with Noblesse Proteger, which grants them 10000 Shield that persist until exhausted.
    • With Spartan, they also gain the ability to become a Mezzer thanks to Hardened Shield, which inflicts delay to a foe and is vital in long battles where enemy charge attacks can be really dangerous to the team.
    • Paladin's "Best Offense Is A Good Defense" leans them towards Scrapper DPS thanks to the increased multiattacks and damage boost, allowing it to become a powerful off-tank based on the amount of shield you managed to obtain throughout the game without lowering their defensive capabilities.
  • Cool Helmet: Both Paladin wears an impressively over-the-top helmet with multiple winged ornaments.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: For the longest time, the Knight-derived class line focus solely on defense and defense alone. The class line has little to no offensive power on their own (the closest thing the class line had are Overdrive Surge that's weak outside of Overdrives and practically useless in V2 battles, and Hardened Shield that buffs attack power just a bit but primarily used for it's Delay) and they're not as effective against enemies that can attack all allies at once. Finally averted once you advance to Paladin class, which passively bolster their offensive power through the amount of shield you have collected so far.
  • Draw Aggro: Substitute allows Captain to draw aggro of all impending attack towards them, excluding all-ally attacks that target all allies. Noblesse Proteger is an upgrade that not only it works on all-ally attacks, but it also grants the user 10000 shield. The downside of Noblesse Proteger is that Paladin is no longer boosted by Aegis Boon like their predecessor.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: Usually the most prefered weapon type to use, due to better synergy with Ultima Weapons.
  • Knight in Shining Armor: Paladin wears an impressive suit of armor painted in bright gold.
  • Lightning Bruiser: Thanks to Best Offense Is a Good Defense, Paladin gets a massive boost in offensive power (including Normal ATK UP, DA up, and TA up) based on how much shield you managed to accumulate, on top of the cap of damage taken by 10000 and plethora of defensive abilities Paladin has, Paladin can consistently score multiattacks every turn without the need to worry about overspecializing themselves into defense.
  • Luckily, My Shield Will Protect Me: Most of the Knight-derived classes arm themselves with shields in their sprites. Averted with Holy Sabre, which forgoes the shield altogether, though the shield returns with Spartan and Paladin.
  • No-Sell: Centurion allows user to basically deny all damage dealt for 1 time only to user at a cost of lowered attack damage. Centurion II allows user to grant other characters in the party one time damage immunity without the damage penalty.
  • The Paladin: The class line greatly invokes this as a theme. Also the fifth class of the class-line is literally named Paladin.
  • Shield Bash: The "Hardened Shield" skill shows user to bash their shield to the enemy and stagger them on impact, which inflicts delay to their charge diamond.
  • Shout-Out: The Spartan class is definitely inspired by 300.
  • Stone Wall: By far one of the tankiest unit in the game, if not the tankiest. Taken even further with Paladin, which boost their defenses further and giving them even more skills to basically redirect all attacks towards them, though it also turns them into Lightning Bruiser thanks to their passive.
  • Stripperiffic: Even moreso than Berserker, Djeeta's Spartan outfit exposes her entire torso down to her thighs, revealing a scantily clad undergarment.

Click here for Iatromantis' default outfit
Style: Heal
Weapon Speciality: Staff/Spear
Class Line: Priest -> Cleric -> Bishop -> Sage -> Iatromantis
Class Champion Weapons: Nirvana -> Hallowed Pilgrimage

Priest and their derived classes are The Medic that specializes in healing allies raid-wide. Their healing skills may not have the versatility of some more dedicated Heal character skills, but their effects are usually Raid-wide and large in numbers. They can wield Staves and Spears as their mainhand.

  • Alice Allusion: The Sage class is the allusion to the White Rabbit, down to the handheld watch ad the rabbit ears. Djeeta even dons a Playboy Bunny outfit.
  • An Adventurer Is You: The Classic Healer, with the elements of the Curer and Buffer splashed into. Veil and White Wall gives some element of Preemptive Healer to the mix.
    • Iatromantis allows you to be a Scrapper DPS thanks to Purging Aura, which gives you guaranteed triple attack and Echo modifier for normal attacks.
  • Boring, but Practical: Most of the Priest-line skills are singular effects that confined to a single cast spell, like Clarity and Dispel, and their heals are not that flashy, but their numbers are large and the effect is Raid-wide, which affects all parties.
  • Combat Medic: Iatromantis allows you to become one if you wield spears as main and sub weapons, dealing bonus elemental damage and guaranteed triple attacks.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: See Overshadowed by Awesome below. The fact that Sage healing and curing skills are functionally separated with each skill means that their skillsets will be filled brim with healing and curing skills that functionally weaker than something like a character's heal skills that also removes 1 debuff in a single click, with the only upside being able to carry two same-type clarity or dispel skills when needed and having lower cooldowns. The amount you heal is also capped (albeit higher than some of other character's healing skills) and requires the player to use some sort of healing cap up to churn out as many healing as you can get if you're planning to do a consistent Stamina grid. The Iatromantis manages to iron out some of the design crufts of their predecessor and giving them multiple options, as a direct upgrade of Sage with Healing Aura (wield two staves), as Combat Medic with Purging Aura (wield two spears), or a more supportive inbetween with Aiding Aura (wield both weapon types, one each).
  • Dual Wielding: Iatromantis also adopts the sub-weapon system used by Viking and changes their passive ability based on what main and sub weapon type is used. The difference between Iatromantis dual wielding compared to other AUX-weapon classes is that none of the Iatromantis skills affected by the weapon type, instead it decides what kind of passive you get for the MC, which turns them into either a direct upgrade to Sage (Healing Aura), a Combat Medic (Purging Aura), or a supportive inbetween that boost the party's offensive and defensive power (Aiding Aura).
  • Dub Name Change: From Panacea of the original Japanese name to Iatromantis in the English translation.
  • Expy: The overall aesthetic of the Iatromantis bears a resemblance to the Astrologian from Final Fantasy XIV.
  • Master of None: Wielding both staves and spears as Iatromantis gives you Aiding Aura, which despite of their supportive capabilities, are nowhere as powerful as Healing and Purging Aura. The permanent 10% TA Buff to the entire party is still welcome.
  • The Medic: One of the very few Heal class-line and they're dedicated mostly on healing.
  • Navel-Deep Neckline: Both Captain's Iatromantis outfit sports a sling scarf that reveals their cleavage and stomach.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: In comparison to other Heal characters, Priest class line is a pure utility class that excels in healing and nothing else. In a game where most healing skills gave more features (like removing 1-or-more debuff or granting powerful buffs to target) and is supplemental to a character, the Priest-line feels lacking in comparison. Even the reworked Light De La Fille provides better healing utility than a fully built Sage. Averted once you reach Iatromantis, where their primary healing skill now also heal and cures 1 debuff on all allies in relatively short cooldown.
  • Playboy Bunny: Djeeta's Sage outfit invokes this, double with Leotard of Power.
  • Squishy Wizard: Averted. The Priest class line is suprisingly durable in taking more punishment than some Staff-speciality Class/Characters in the game. Most of their healing skills are also spammable in short turns, which allows them to survive more often.
  • Status-Buff Dispel: The aptly named Dispel skill removes 1 buff from the target enemy. Dispel Deluge can also removes 1 buff from all enemies in a raid, useful in fights where there are more than 1 target to choose.
  • Support Party Member: The Priest-derived line are the primary healing class for the Captain, and while their offensive capabilities are unrestricted (unlike some other support party members), their numbers are comparatively lacking, and is best used as the team's primary healing and curing bot. Iatromantis' Aiding Aura provides supportive capabilities in form of multiattack buff passive for the entire team and 30% chance of removing 1 debuff at the turn start.

Style: Attack
Weapon Speciality: Staff/Dagger
Class Line: Wizard -> Sorcerer -> Hermit -> Warlock -> Manadiver
Class Champion Weapons: Keraunos -> Demonic Longstaff

Wizard and their derived classes are Squishy Wizard specializes in casting powerful but long-winded nukes for best effectiveness in combat. They also occasionally geared up with simple but useful debuffs with each class progression. Manadiver is a class specializing in battlefield control and the use of Manaturas, miniature spirit of Primal Beasts that will help you and the team in battle.

  • An Adventurer Is You: Prior to Warlock, Wizards are The Nukers that specializes in high burst skill damage and a little bit of status debuff from Sorcerer and Hermit. Warlock's Dark Haze and Chaser leans the class into Buffer/Debuffer hybrid to support overall party damage.
    • After Mastery LV 30, Warlock also becomes the Resource Master for Crest-based teams that needed them. Likewise, Manadiver also provides even better Crest generation.
    • The Manadiver class becomes Summoner Petmaster thanks to their Manaturas providing extra help everytime the captain finishes off their normal attacks, which usually only costs you few charge bars. Manadiver also becomes the Mezzer who's useful on draining charge diamond out of foe, and they can fill out their charge diamonds and grant them echo buff to all allies for three turns on top of an additional corresponding elemental Crest.
  • Expy: The Manadiver class serves as one to Final Fantasy XIV Summoners, with a little bit of Arcanist thrown together here and there.
  • It Only Works Once: The Manadiver's Overtrance is an exceptionally powerful skill that effectively grants you infinite charge bar for 6 turns, enabling some extremely powerful strategies in the right hands, but it can only be cast once for the whole battle. It used to be recastable, but an exploit involving Holiday Anthuria led to the skill being nerfed to being a one-time use.
  • Jack of All Trades: Manadiver provides versatility of damage, buffs/debuffs, and crowd control in more manageable cooldown and flexibility than the previous Mage-derived classes.
  • Linear Warriors, Quadratic Wizards: Averted. Wizard line's skill damage potential is based on the player's build on breaking the damage cap on top of ramping up their Aether Blast damage using Aether Bane and Laser Focus, given that auto-attacking and charge attacks allows you to break through the cap's easier (and faster), their damage value outshines the skill damage boost from the Wizard class line that need some time to ramp up for the best effectiveness. Nowadays the class is best used for their Dark Haze and Chaser skill.
  • Mighty Glacier: Both Laser Focus and Aether Bane rewards player by playing the patient game through refraining from using any spell and skills until you reach maximum stacks, as such, the damage curve of this class line is significantly slower than some dedicated attackers.
  • Squishy Wizard: The Wizard class line is not very durable, even in full defense grid.
  • Summon Magic: Manadiver utilizes Manaturas, miniature spirits of the past Primal Beast like Leviathan and even Lu Woh, to assist them in battle. Manatura attacks after the captain and it provides extra effects based on the currently equipped Manatura.
  • Super-Empowering: Overtrance grants the user the Overtrance buff that makes it so charge attacks and abilities won't consume your current charge bar on top of maximizing your current charge bar to 100%. The buff lasts 6 turns, and also doesn't drain your charge bar when activating your Manatura. The catch is that you can only casts it once, and there's a 3 turn lockout before you can start flooring it.
  • Useless Useful Spell: Aether Bane in theory improves Aether Blast III's damage, but the current state of gear and content makes it very easy to cap out on its damage without the skill anyway. Not to mention, the maximum damage cap it can reach is a mere 2 million damage, and that's only if you somehow manage to get its stacks to the maximum of 20 without letting it fall off due to its increasing short duration.

Click here for Bandit Tycoon's default outfit
Style: Balanced
Weapon Speciality: Dagger/Gun
Class Line: Thief -> Raider -> Hawkeye -> Bandit Tycoon -> Street King
Class Champion Weapons: Oliver -> The Storyteller

The Thief and their derived classes are Jack of All Trades that specializes into inflicting singular yet powerful boosted damage on foes in a break status as well as inflicting ever so useful Bounty Hunter debuff, which increases the target's drop rate, which is very useful in farming. They can use Daggers and Guns as their mainhand.

  • An Adventurer Is You: Scrapper DPS with elements of the Backstabber thanks to the Crack Shot ability, especially against foes in Break status. They also functions as a minor Debuffer with the ability to boost drop rates depending on how much the stack of Bounty Hunter applied.
  • Anime Hair: Gran sports a large, unkempt afro inspired by the Kabuki portrayal of Goemon Ishikawa.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Downplayed. While Bandit Tycoon itself is not very weapon-dependent, the best use of the class is to use weapons that grants extra source of Bounty so they can easily reach Bounty Level 9 and further boost the damage of Crack Shot and Spring Gate combo. You also want to have characters that can inflict bounty consistently in raids (like Mary or Tien) to boost their damage even further.
  • Faking the Dead: Zig-zagged. While La Manteau Du Roi "kills" off the Street King and swaps their vacant position with a sub ally to activate skills like all Evokers' support skills, the process on how it works still counts an actual death regarding to any tasks that require no deaths.
  • Fragile Speedster: The Thief line has multiple methods of boosting multiattack rate, whether it'll be Lethal Aim or Force Snatch, though it's best to use Double Trouble III for the guaranteed triple attack boost instead.
    • Spring's Gate inflicts all enemies with Onslaught debuff, which treat them like they're in Break status. It practically allow Bandit Tycoon to become a powerful Anytime Assassin that deal burst damage every five turns thanks to their Crack Shot III ability and by how much Bounty is accumulated throughout the battle.
  • Gentleman Thief: The Bandit Tycoon is inspired by the common portrayal of Ishikawa Goemon in Kabuki theatre.
  • Glass Cannon: Bandit Tycoon amps up the class line offensive power thanks for being able to apply a debuff that makes it so the afflicted were in break status regardless of the current status, and it's on a generous 5 turn cooldown. The best use of this class is to bring as many Bounty and/or Break-Assassin characters into the party as you could fit, which may or may not turn your entire party to this if you have no frontline to soak up damage or healer to heal back all the damage taken every turn.
  • Quad Damage: Crack Shot boost the user's attack by four times against enemies in Break status. While it's hard to achieve thanks to Break status can be reset when the boss reach certain HP threshold, Spring's Gate inflicts 3-turn onslaught that works the same as being on Break status, even when their Break status were reset prior, allowing you to consistently deal damaging burst every 5 turns or so.
  • Status-Buff Dispel: Force Snatch can remove 1 buff from a foe while also granting you a full turn of guaranteed triple attack. The downside is that they have 1 turn more cooldown than Double Trouble III.
  • Video Game Stealing: Averted. Bounty Hunter doesn't really steal, but it boost the current drop rates based on how much Bounty stack the target inflicted upon with this skill.

Enhancer default outfit

Click here for Arcane Dueler's default outfit

Click here for Dark Fencer's default outfit

Click here for Chaos Ruler's default outfit

Style: Special
Weapon Speciality: Sabre/Dagger, Dagger/Katana (Onmyoji)
Class Line: Enhancer -> Arcane Dueler -> Dark Fencer -> Chaos Ruler -> Onmyoji
Class Champion Weapons: Ipetam -> Original Sin

The Enhancer and their derived classes is a Jack of All Trades that doesn't have certain speciality apart of boosting skill damage and stalling enemies, that's it until Dark Fencer, where they become a dedicated crowd control-oriented fighters that specializes into debuffing enemies and controlling their charge diamond flow onward. They usually equips Sabres or Daggers as their mainhand, which changes for the Onmyoji as they trade in the Sabre for the Katana.

  • '90s Anti-Hero: Chaos Ruler invokes this through their looks and their cold-hearted uncaring badass demeanor invoked in their design.
  • Achilles' Heel: The Onmyoji favors parties that use charge attacks and chain bursts at a frequent enough basis. This also means that any debuffs that hampers or prevents the party from using them also slows down the Onmyoji's utility.
  • An Adventurer Is You: Prior to Dark Fencer, they're usually the Jack between Mezzer and Buffer, providing boost to skill damage to all parties while also delaying the opponent's charge diamond. Dark Fencer onwards, the class line is now a dedicated mix between Debuffer and Mezzer thanks to useful charge diamond control skills such as Stall II and Gravity while also providing a simple powerful debuff in form of Miserable Mist.
  • Cooldown Manipulation:
    • Sabotage cuts all skill cooldown by 1 turn. Likewise, Vengeance also cut debuff skill (blue border) cooldown by 1 turn, allowing the class to freely spam their abilities more often.
    • Onmyoji's Supreme Duality passively cuts all skill cooldown by 1 turn if the party manages to chain 4 or more charge attacks in one turn.
  • Dark Is Not Evil: Both Dark Fencer and Chaos Ruler dons an ominously dark outfit and using dark powers in fight, but both Gran and Djeeta are good natured people regardless of their classes.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Chaos field effect lowers the debuff resistance of all units in the battlefield, including your own. It's useful in battles where bosses gains debuff resistances overtime, not so much in shorter and easy to clear battles.
  • Jack of All Trades: Even after reaching Dark Fencer/Chaos Ruler, the class line is a flexible control-oriented fighter that's useful in any situation. Chaos Ruler can also become a minor buffer with Uprising and can grant team-wide sustain with Absorption.
  • Overshadowed by Awesome: Blood Sword skill is greatly overshadowed by Absorption as the class line's de facto sustain skill, even with the Original Sin's Vigilante Divinity, simply because the drain cap is only 1000 HP and it's not very effective in battles where damage taken can reach up to 5000 or more, while Absorption allows you to heal 30% of damage taken at the end of turn.
    • This also applies to Unpredictable skill from Chaos Ruler. The skill itself is a direct upgrade to Dark Fencer's Miserable Mist, but many still uses Mist over Unpredictable because only Chaos Rulers can use the Unpredictable skill whilst the Mist can be used by any class that needed the ATK and DEF down, while also has two-turn less cooldown. Unpredictable is also weaker to some other debuffing skills such as Yurius' Truth Seeker and Summer Helel's Tresspass, both of which can also inflict the usual ATK and DEF down debuff on top of one random debuff (albeit localized) per cast, but those two can be cast as many time as you want as long as the character still have charge bar in reserve on top of their normal ATK and DEF down debuff being stackable up to 40%, allowing you to easily reach the 50% debuff in few casts and a regular mist.
  • Shout-Out: The Arcana Dueler outfit is based on Final Fantasy's Red Mage outfit. Likewise, the Dark Fencer outfit is similar to the armours used by Dark Knights in most of the games, specifically the ones from the Ivalice Alliance games.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Miserable Mist inflicts all enemies with 25% Attack and Defense down for 180 second with generous cooldown. It's singlehandedly one of the strongest Captain's skill and it's splashable in any scenario who needs it, even in Row IV and V classes. The sole exception being when the boss is immune to it, like the Four Primarchs. Because of the power it gives in a single cast, Dark Fencer is one of the class best obtained early for that skill alone. It's no wonder the skill is named Mandatory Mist by the playerbase.
  • Stripperiffic: Djeeta forgoes the fully armored look of Chaos Ruler in favor of a more revealing set.
  • Uniformity Exception: The Onmyoji class is the only class of the Enhancer line that has Japanese theming to it. As a result, the Onmyoji forgoes Sabres in favor of Katanas for their mainhand.
  • Wrecked Weapon: As part of their cold-hearted, uncaring badass demeanor, the Chaos Ruler class' will break their own weapon as part of their victory animation. Of course the actual weapon will not break in their equipment/inventory.

    Grappler Derived
Style: Attack
Weapon Speciality: Melee
Class Line: Grappler -> Kung Fu Artist -> Ogre -> Luchador
Class Champion Weapons: Hellion Gauntlet -> Champion's Belt

The Grappler and their derived classes are very selfish and specializes in beating the enemy with their knuckles through dodging (or tanking) attacks then returning them full force with a powerful counterattack. The class is one of the few classes that only has one type of mainhand.

  • An Adventurer Is You: The Scrapper DPS with elements of Avoidance Tank. Their skillset allows user to draw aggro into the user more often so they can counterattack back with multiple strikes, but they're not tanky enough to take too much hit within interval of few turns. Luchador fixes this somewhat by giving them a little bit of defense boost, but unless you're on a burst enabler build, you also don't want to draw aggro into the captain too much.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: For the longest time, the primary utility for Luchador is as a selfish attacker that relies on not being hit so they can build up hype buff for their own team, however the primary skill of Luchador simply boost their hostility and make them primary target for counter-strikes. The Knifehand Strike clashes with Ring Ruler and doesn't synergize well with the practice, forcing players to find other ways to redirect attack from them, and it's the reason why the class is generally unfavorable for the longest time. It's also practically useless in bosses that can hit all party members at once. It changed once rebalances added the Extended Mastery Skill Tag Team into their arsenal, turning the class into a powerful single-turn burst setup when played correctly in the correct team.
  • Boobs-and-Butt Pose: Djeeta Luchador's art pronounces both of her cleavage and butt curves exponentially.
  • Counter-Attack: The aptly named Counter skills allows user to dodge-and-counter all incoming attacks. Knifehand Strike also does the same but it also buffs the caster's defenses and hostility on top of having to tank them instead of just dodging, which makes them impractical in Ring Ruler setups.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Ring Ruler boost all of your team's Hype level per turn as long as Captain didn't get hit. It's generally better to have characters that can redirect your aggro towards them to keep the momentum up.
    • Tag Team skill allows the entire team to immediately strike through heart's vengeance immediately without using up a turn, which allows them to practically deal powerful burst damage twice per turn. However, the skill itself has a very long cooldown that you can only circumvent a little, and you really want to churn out all of your team's damage-enhancing buffs to draw out the best effect of the skill before eventually casting it (mainly damage cap up, guaranteed multiattacks, bonus elemental damage, some method of Double Strike, critical boosting skills, et cetera), thus a throughout planning is needed before you can cast one.
  • Fragile Speedster: The class focuses on dodging-and-countering with even harder blow as their secondary source of damage, and they boast one of the largest raw multiattack rating modifier in the game bar several examples. Their playstyle also requires you to not get hit by attacks at all, as most of their countering skills requires them to specifically dodge, and they're normally has low defense. Luchador rectifies this by making them tougher and allowing you to tank-and-counter instead, but it also clashes with their other skill, Ring Ruler, which boost party Hype stacks each turn captain didn't take damage.
  • Glass Cannon: Taking Chances boost their already high offensive power but also greatly lowers their defenses.
  • I Know Kung Fu: Averted. Despite being named Kung Fu Artist, the class animations are still using the regular Melee attacks and stance animations.
  • Masked Luchador: The eponymous Luchador class wears a lucha libre mask regardless of gender. They also as heroic as they can be.
  • Muscles Are Meaningless: Gran Luchador's outfit (or lack thereof) sports a bulging muscles comparable to those of the hypermasculine characters out there, but his offensive power is no different compared to the less muscular Djeeta.
  • Power Fist: Grapplers primarily wielding Knuckles. They're one of the few class lines that can only equip one weapon type.
  • Wrestler in All of Us: Their Luchador class turns the captain into masked luchadors, with Gran even gaining muscles out of nowhere.

    Ranger Derived
Style: Attack
Weapon Speciality: Bow/Gun
Class Line: Ranger -> Archer -> Sidewinder -> Nighthound
Class Champion Weapons: Rosenbogen -> Maverick

The Ranger derived line are class line that focuses on avoiding enemy attacks while raining them down with barrage of arrows and bullets. From Sidewinder onwards, they were also capable of switching their position (or other allied party member) with a backrow units, which allows for one turn kill strategy and so forth. They can use Bows and Guns as their primary choice of mainhand.

  • Achilles' Heel: Twilight Zone does not affect Light and Dark elemental teams and enemies.
  • An Adventurer Is You: The Archer DPS with a mix of the Backstabber and Mezzer.
  • Animal-Eared Headband: Nighthound outfit sports a hi-tech one for both genders.
  • Balance Buff: In 2020, Nighthound gain two skills that gives him other niche besides being a support unit, such as the highly coveted Elemental DEF Down and multi-hitting debuff skill for Bow and Gun centric teams.
  • Cool, but Inefficient: Generally speaking, being able to freely swap with the backrow party members in a game where you can't do it freely sounds pretty exploitable, but unless you had characters that can exploit it's backrow swapping powers (which are rare), the skill is not very useful, not to mention it won't trigger Evoker's passives which requires the swapped member to be knocked out instead. Their Bow and Gun speciality skills is also overshadowed by more specialized classes like Robin Hood or Gunslinger. It's the reason why the class rarely sees play outside of One-Hit Kill setups or Proving Grounds event where having R or SR characters in the front row also boosts your overall score.
  • Not the Intended Use: Through it was intended to be an utility support unit, Nighthound found themselves in a niche one-turn kill strategies used in Proving Grounds showdowns and churning out as many damaging skill as possible from every character in the party of R and/or SR characters.
  • Schizo Tech: Nighthound outfit is incredibly futuristic in what supposed to be a medieval fantasy world they were in, though they didn't look off among members of the Society.

    Harpist Derived
Style: Special
Weapon Speciality: Harp/Dagger
Class Line: Harpist -> Bard -> Superstar -> Elysian
Class Champion Weapons: Langeleik -> Chanteuse Angelique

The Harpist line are the class line that almost exclusively specializes in supporting their allies by buffing their offensive and defensive specs. The class line specializes greatly with a Harp mainhand, but they can also wield Daggers, albeit with less effectiveness compared to Harps.

  • An Adventurer Is You: The de facto Buffer, with some Healer and Mezzer mixed in.
  • Disco Dan: Gran's Superstar outfit is definitely based on these, complete with the pose.
  • Forced Sleep: Superstar can learn Sheep Song that inflicts Sleep status to an enemy and delays their charge diamond.
  • Pimped-Out Dress: Djeeta's Elysian outfit resembles an opera ballgown.
  • Quirky Bard: Downplayed. Though some classes are better offensively because Harp is usually the weakest weapon damage-wise, they have acceptable offensive capabilities themselves.
  • Stone Wall: As the class line progress, they steadily gain more defense and resistances throughout the line, but their overall offensive power is still the same.
  • Support Party Member: The Harpist-derived line are heavily focused on supporting all members in the party with buffs that either boost offensive and defensive power. Downplayed that they can still perform normal attacks and gain multitude of offensive capabilites based on mainhand, but most of their skills are focused solely on supporting allies; they don't even have a damaging skill in their line.

    Lancer Derived
Style: Attack
Weapon Speciality: Lance/Axe
Class Line: Lancer -> Dragoon -> Valkyrie -> Apsaras
Class Champion Weapons: Romulus Spear -> Helmwige

Lancer derived class are class line designed to being able to periodically deal tremendous damage thanks to their high innate multiattack modifier and skills that buffs their damaging potential even further. From Valkyrie onwards, they can also support their party members that shares the same weapon specialty. Like their namesake, they uses Spear as their primary choice of mainhand, but they can also use Axes.

  • An Adventurer Is You: Primarily Blademaster DPS, but becomes a potent Buffer after reaching Apsaras.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Einherjar requires the player to keep avoiding attacks to be useful, but the amount you get for each cast is not worth the effort and it's not as spammable as other stackable skills from other classes/characters. It's a lot more useful on Apsaras where they can redirect aggression to your other allied party members instead.
  • Balance Buff: Due to it's niche uses and being greatly overshadowed by other classes/characters in terms of offensive capability and utility, Apsaras was one of the few classes that got almost everything on their skillset directly buffed or just straight up reworked in the 2020 class update.
    • Thunder on Water was rebalanced into a more grid-and-party focused skill with emphasis on buffing overall damage based on the Axes and Spears on the weapon grid, which depending on the grindables you can collect for the grid, allows you to rack up as many buffs as you can get without having to lock yourself to a specific mainhand. It's actually harder to pull if you don't have that many grindable Spear-Axe in your grid, but was less frustrating compared to their original incarnation of the skill.
  • "Blind Idiot" Translation: Randgrith was mistranslated as Land Grease for a long time until 2018.
  • Boring, but Practical: Before Apsaras, Valkyrie is mostly a straightforward class focused on
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Prior to Apsaras, the Lancer derived line are rather straightforward class that focuses on buffing themselves
  • Jack of All Trades: The class line boast one of the largest multiattack boost after Luchador and Chrysaor, while also has multitude supportive abilities and skills, but they're still pale in comparison to other more focused class that might or might not be stronger in that specific role.
  • Shout-Out: The Dragoon class and outfit is pretty much a dead ringer to the Dragoon class from Final Fantasy series, specifically the fourth game.
  • Stripperiffic: Djeeta dons a Chainmail Bikini for her Dragoon and Valkyrie outfit. Averted with Apsaras, where they're almost equally covered, though she still shows more skin.

    Gladiator Derived
Style: Attack
Weapon Speciality: Sabre/Katana
Class Line: Gladiator -> Chrysaor
Class Champion Weapons: Proximo -> Wasserspeier

The Gladiator line is a class specialized in dealing as much damage as possible through multiattacks and skill damage. They're the first class that adopts the Auxilary weapon system where they can dual wield two different weapon at once as long as it's the same mainhand and element, which allow them to gain extra properties from their skills and deal multiattacks more often. They can wield Sabres and Katanas as their mainhand choice, and they can equip them in tandem, provided they share the same element.

  • An Adventurer Is You: The definitive Scrapper DPS. They have pretty high multiattack rate allows them to ramp up their charge bar and deal charge attacks quicker quicker.
  • Bling of War: Both Chrysaor is adorned in an impressive golden armor.
  • Charged Attack: Another class line that specializes in dealing CA damage often. Unlike Kengo which needs extra ramp up time however, the class high innate multiattack rate allows them to keep being able to pump out as much multiattack as possible, and in turn gain more charge bar every turn.
  • Death by a Thousand Cuts: Decimate inflicts up to 10 hit superior elemental damage to a single foe, and more often than not will kill the target in a single cast.
  • Dual Wielding: The Gladiator-derived class is one of the few class with AUX-weapon system where it can have more than 1 mainhand. Through not necessary to play the entire class, most of the skill are locked or not as effective if the player is not wielding an AUX weapon.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: One of the very few classes that can wield Katana weapon types.
  • Power Creep: Easily powercrept the Machinist class as de facto charge attack booster for the team, providing offensive power without sacrificing too much for utility.
    • They eventually got powercrept by Relic Buster in terms of charge bar efficiency and multi-attacking prowess, which is also easier to obtain due to being a free reward from an event.
    • They got even more powercrept by Viking in terms of even higher raw offensive power and their AUX-weapon skills are a lot more flexible to use than the Gladiator class line.
  • Religious and Mythological Theme Naming: Chrysaor is named after the son of Poseidon and Medusa in Greek Mythology.
  • Required Secondary Power: Most of their offensive skill requires them to wield a compatible (i.e. equippable weapon with the same element type as the main hand) to activate it's secondary effect, and some of the skills are required to have an AUX-hand to can even be activated.
  • Royal Rapier: Wasserspeier is a rather elegant looking pair of rapier adorned in blue ribbon to match.

Advanced Row IV Classes

    Lumberjack
Style: Balanced
Weapon Speciality: Axe/Harp
Unlock: Berserker and Elysian at Level 20
CCW: Tall Tale-Teller and Rip Van Winkle

A class that utilizes the power of nature and the woodland critters to grant support and bring down the forest's wrath.

  • An Adventurer Is You: The Jack between a Buffer, Debuffer, and Healer archetype, but they can also become Blademaster DPS with Woodcutter Song and Laughing Logger when equipping axes.
  • Attack Animal: Woodcutter's Song features a variety of animals that come and assist the party in battle. There is also a 10% chance of a stronger animal coming in to assist.
    • Every 3 skills used summons a pack of wolves that damage and debuff the enemies' ATK/DEF. There is a chance that a bear punches the enemies, dealing more damage and buffing the party's next charge attack.
    • Using a charge attack summons a horde of squirrels and bunnies that deal damage and grant the Strength buff. There is a chance that a boar will ram the enemy, dealing more damage and also granting Bonus Damage.
    • Taking damage summons deers that will heal the party. There is a chance that a flock of birds will heal the party for a larger amount and also grant a shield.
    • The enemy using a special attack summons hawks that will slash the enemy, damaging and blinding them. There is a chance that a shoebill will glare intensely at the enemy, dealing more damage and also inflicting Petrify.
  • Bears Are Bad News: The wolf stampede can randomly be replaced with a powerful haymaker from the bear friend, who not only deals damage and inflict stackable debuffs, but also boost the entire party CA damage and CA damage cap for one use.
  • Feathered Fiend: The woodpecker dive can randomly be replaced by a menacing shoebill that stares deeply to the opponent, which also grants Petrified along with the usual Blinded status effects.
  • Friend to All Living Things: Upon casting Woodcutter Song, the Lumberjack is accompanied by the friends of the forest for three turns who will assist them in fights, actively helping the Captain by buffing the allies or attacking and debuffing the enemies, depending on the action taken (for each three skill casted, using charge attack, or when Captain takes damage or the foe using special attack). The effects granted can be randomly enhanced, granting them extra effects.
  • Jack of All Trades: The Lumberjack can fulfill a good number of roles in battle with their Woodcutter's Song and their versatile EMP skills.
    • Laughing Logger improves the Lumberjack's offense, granting a critical rate buff, and grants Keen and a damage cap increase for each subsequent cast.
    • Leaf Burning grants the Lumberjack a shield, for as long as the shield is active, they gradually buff the party's ATK and DEF and fill their charge bar.
    • Dappled Sunlight restores the party's HP, and each subsequent cast also cleanses a debuff and grants debuff immunity.
  • Mighty Glacier: Lumberjack skills have moderately long cooldown, and their effectiveness relies on how many times you casts them, so they're best used in longer fights where they can cast their skills more often.
    • Lightning Bruiser: Becomes this with Ultimate Mastery Lumberjack. Master Level 30 pushes Woodcutter's Song to a 4 turns duration, meaning it only has a 2 turn downtime, and 2 out of its new skills activate automatically.
      • Verdant Melody has a long 8 turn cooldown, but provides crucial damage cap breaking buffs for the whole party from the first cast; this culminates in the extremely rare party wide Double Strike combined with Damage Amplification and echo.
      • Birdsong of Balmy Breeze is a fire and forget automatic, permanent, and unremovable heal effect that also clears a debuff after every enemy special attack and gives party Dispel Cancel every five turns.
      • Laughing Logger lets Lumberjack step into the vaunted (as of 2024) autonuke meta, hitting enemies hard and providing stacking multiattack and damage cap up every turn Woodcutter's Song is up.
  • Quirky Bard: Lumberjacks wield harps as deftly as they wield axes, and all of their abilities hit just as hard with one in hand as the other.

    Cavalier
Style: Defense
Weapon Speciality: Spear/Gun
Unlock: Spartan and Nighthound at Level 20
CCW: Vanguard and Mezieres

Stalwart cavalry riders who specialize in defense, their defensive style changing drastically based on which weapon they wield.

  • An Adventurer Is You: Mix between Avoidance Tank, Regenerator Tank, or a squishy Off-Buffer depending on weapons used.
  • Achilles' Heel: A spear-wielding Cavalier generally does not like having a shield buff, as they need to specifically take damage in order to counterattack.
  • Cool Horse: Rides a finely armored horse in battle.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Gun-wielding Cavaliers need to keep themselves from getting hit to maintain their teamwide buffs and gain a Horseman stack, as taking too much hit will expires the Noble Purpose buffs early on if you're not careful. Spear-wielding Cavaliers also wants to be targeted all the time to quickly maximize their Horseman stack, which boost their skill's effectiveness at max stacks.
  • Stance System: Which weapon they wield completely changes their playstyle.
    • Wielding a spear turns them into a Counter-Attack tank, actively taking damage and firing back with increased power.
    • Wielding a gun turns them into an evasion-based tank, granting support to the party for as long as they do not take damage.

    Monk
Style: Attack
Weapon Speciality: Melee/Staff
Unlock: Sage and Luchador at Level 20
CCW: Kanabo and Ringed Armguards

Honed martial artists who specialize in increasingly potent offense over the course of a battle.

  • An Adventurer Is You: A weird mix between Scrapper and Blademaster DPS with a little bit of Avoidance Tank mixed in.
  • Achilles' Heel: When the Monk's HP drops below 25%, they lose 5 stacks of their Martial Prowess buff. This makes them highly incompatible with Enmity-based playstyles.
  • Gathering Steam: The Monk focuses on building up Martial Prowess over the course of a fight, by using red border skills and their charge attacks. Martial Prowess boosts the Monk's ATK and has an increasing chance to trigger Mantra, a 4-hit attack at the end of every turn.
  • Warrior Monk: The class fits the aesthetic and combat capabilities.

    Robin Hood
Style: Special
Weapon Speciality: Bow
Unlock: Nighthound and Chaos Ruler at Level 20
CCW: Sherwood Bow

Merry forest folk who fight with their bow and their trusty fox companion, specializing in all manners of trickery.

  • An Adventurer Is You: An even more focused Archer DPS, with Debuffer and Resource Master added to the mix.
  • Attack Animal: The fox will attack the enemy whenever a red or blue border skill is used, consuming a Fleetfoot Arrow and buffing the Robin Hood's multiattack rate or debuffing the enemies' ATK/DEF, respectively.
  • Canine Companion: Is accompanied by a pet fox in battle.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Subverted. While the class can only wield bows as mainhand weapons (which are more limited than guns), their overall power and efficiency is greater and more straightforward compared to the versatile yet highly conditional Nighthound.
  • Combat Pragmatist: They deal more damage the more debuffs the enemy has.

    Relic Buster
Style: Attack
Weapon Speciality: Sword/Gun
Unlock: Unlock from the Home Sweet Moon event/side story
CCW: Prototype Reboot and Selene

Contractors armed with the power of an automagod to combat the threat of the moondwellers.

  • An Adventurer Is You: A healthy mix between Nuker and Scrapper DPS depending on weapon type used. Engage Augments also gives them the property of Resource Master to help themselves or the entire team.
  • Charged Attack: They're primarily specialized in boosting the team's charge bar and buffing their charge attacks using Engage Augments, and is one of the best charge bar support in the archetype as for now.
  • Cherry Tapping: Subverted. Blitz Raid allows Captain to perform normal attack immediately upon cast and has no cooldown, but requires you to consume at least 1 Machine Cell per cast, not to mention 1 other cell consumed upon normal attacks because of the passive, which can only be cast three times in a single turn at best.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Subverted. While the class relies greatly on Machine Cells to dish out damage and taking it, the cells themselves are relatively easy to replenish. Engage Augments is on a reasonably simple 5 turn cooldown and Prototype Reboot grants the user another two stacks of cells for each charge attacks. Using Selene also help restores your cells every three turns and completely remove the cost of Limit Burst activation so you don't need to fully commit your cells into using it (you still need 5 cells for the best effect).
  • Disc-One Nuke: The Relic Buster can be unlocked even by newer players who have yet to reach Rank 101, granting access to a powerful class with straightforward and potent offenses.
  • Glass Cannon: They have 25% reduced DEF from the get-go, and also have increased hostility, but they compensate with a slew of incredibly potent offensive options.
  • Leotard of Power: Djeeta's Relic Buster uniform sports one of these, though it's not obvious because she also wears shorts on top of it.
  • Power Creep: Easily powercreeps both Machinist and Glorybringer in terms of charge bar efficiency, and also being much easier to use.
  • Power Up Letdown: Downplayed with their Ultimate Mastery. The UM skills are mostly charge attack focused, offering little benefit to the class's enhanced normal attacks, likely as a way of preventing further broken shenanigans with the infamous Halloween Florence.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: Limit Burst consumes all current Machine Cells to fill up the party's charge bar and boost their charge attack damage, making it one of the most efficient ways to unleash a full chain burst for OTK strategies.
  • Shout-Out: The Ultimate Mastery skills names for Relic Busters are straight lifted from Gunbreaker's skills names, like Brutal C(Sh)ell, Lightning Shot, and Hypervelocity.
  • Unnecessary Combat Roll: When wielding a Sabre mainhand, Relic Buster slash and swipes the opponent as they waltz through them and occasionally rolls around in their normal attack animation.

    Yamato
Style: Attack
Weapon Speciality: Sword/Katana
Unlock: 20 Venerator's Distinctions
CCW: Kusanagi

Venerated warriors who gracefully wield their blade to methodically cut away evil.

  • An Adventurer Is You: A highly specialized Buffer and Mezzer for V2 battles, with a little bit of Avoidance Tank with Watch and Wound.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: The class is purely focused on cancelling Omens in V2 battles, and their base skill can only be used when there is a cancellable Omen active. This makes them rather useless outside of V2 battles as a result.
  • Master Swordsman: Excels in swordplay and can use both Sabre and Katana as a mainhand.
  • Too Awesome to Use: Seasplitter inflicts up to 4000% skill damage to a foe and cancel all cancellable omens, however it can't be recasted, and it requires you to have at least 8 Yashiori stacks before you can even use it. It's best saved for some of the more dangerous attacks.

Extra Classes provides examples of the following tropes:

    General Tropes
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Some EX-Classes are heavily specializes in their own separate mechanics that requires player to micro-manage it for their utmost effectiveness. Often times, what they offer can be done with other characters/classes, and utilizing the EX-Class speciality may not be worth it in the long run.
  • Money Sink: Certain classes (like Gunslinger, Assassin, and Mechanic) requires you to basically spent some resources (or sometimes rupies) to buy and/or craft them.

    Alchemist > Doctor
Style: Heal
Weapon Speciality: Dagger/Gun
CCW: Faust > Psycho Syringe

Physicians who specialize in healing with potions rather than magic, and later provide support in a more offensively oriented manner.

  • An Adventurer Is You: A mix between Classic Healer and Buffer, generating potions that heal plenty of HP, and also being able to provide potent offensive utility with their buffs.
  • Combat Medic: The Doctor is more than capable of dealing good damage thanks to their Nutrients skill, providing a hefty Strength buff.

    Ninja > Runeslayer
Style: Special
Weapon Speciality: Katana/Melee
Class Champion Weapons: Muramasa -> Tetrastreamer

Warriors of the shadow and users of the tetra-elements that mix-and-match seals and runes respectively to respond to the ever changing battle.

  • An Adventurer Is You: The definitive Jack class, can literally do anything they need as long as you know which elemental pattern to cast.
  • Cool, but Inefficient: Despite the elements pattern system the class line is touted for, only a handful of combinations are commonly used in practice. This is notable with Runeslayer's Multiplying Magic and the Tetrastreamer Class Champion Weapon making the chore of building Magic Circles a non-issue.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Without access to Multiplying Magic, which is unlockable after completing the class's Ultimate Mastery, the class needs its related Class Champion Weapon to have a constant and fast source of building Magic Circles, which gimps their damage output due to having no innate damage boosts.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: Using the class requires you to memorize or follow a guide on how to execute the needed pattern to activate each elemental affinities, but the effects are very useful and can be downright devastating in certain aspects.
  • Elemental Powers: The Ninja/Runeslayer class utilizes elemental mastery of the four elements.
  • Expy: The class line is functionally similar to Ninja class from Final Fantasy XIV, utilizing elemental powers to provide wide array of effects, though it lacked the stealth elements of the former.
  • Highly-Visible Ninja: Ninja utilizes highly explosive elemental powers that would realisticly make them stand out in the crowds. It's probably the reason why the next tier in the class line becomes the more direct and visible Runeslayer.
  • Magikarp Power: The Runeslayer is fairly awkward to use without their Class Champion Weapon, and having to use their Class Champion Weapon means gimping their damage output due to its innate lack of damage boosting weaponskills. It isn't until achieving Ultimate Mastery that the Runeslayer manages to truly mitigate its greatest weakness of slowly building up Magic Circles.

    Samurai > Kengo
Style: Attack
Weapon Speciality: Katana/Bow
Class Champion Weapon: Murakumo -> Unsigned Kaneshige

Wielders of the blade (and bow) that synergizes with their weapon to produce heavy damage.

  • An Adventurer Is You: The Blademaster DPS, with elements of Scrapper added to the mix thanks to Kengo's "No More Doubt" that allowed them to potentially attack up to 9 times. Their 200% charge meter also gives them properties of a Resource Master, since most of their skills costs a good percentage of their current charge bar.
  • Bow and Sword in Accord: Averted. Both class can wield both Katana and Bow as their mainhand, but they can't wield them together at the same time.
  • Charged Attack: The entire class line specializes in dealing up to two powerful burst of charged attack in a single round. Kengo also becomes stronger and can be a powerful CA Burst support after reaching Mastery level 20+ for each CA they manage to pull in the battle.
  • Crippling Overspecialization: Zigzagged. The Kengo definitely wants their CCW, not because they're weak without it (they can function just fine even with other katanas), but because unlike the other Champion Weapons, the Unsigned Kaneshige is incredibly loaded in the benefits it offers.
  • Death by a Thousand Cuts: Kengo's "No More Doubt" grants the caster Triple Strike, which allows the user to potentially strike 9 times in a row if you can proc triple attack for each strike, which you can easily manipulate through grids or party member's skills.
  • Disc-One Nuke: Progressing through Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba collab event gives you access to both Samurai and Kengo class without having to create the corresponding class champion weapons, though the event is only run for a limited amount of time. A new player who played this event will probably only have this EX-II class for quite a while.
  • Glass Cannon: Kengo can be potentially devastating for a single turn burst, but other than that, they can be vulnerable otherwise. They require another source of charge bar boosting to support their burst, and Peace of Mind requires the player to have someone else to take damage from them or else they lose effectiveness.
  • Katanas Are Just Better: They're one of the few classes that can wield Katana and specialized on it through and through, the other being Gladiator-Chrysaor and Swordmaster-Glorybringer.
  • Magikarp Power: Unyou grants Kengo a stack of the identically named buff to the Captain for every charge attack, which boost their overall offensive power to the max. Since the class doesn't have other methods of boosting their charge bar gain, you need to have other characters that provides them with external charge bar gain and/or characters with multiattack boosting skills.
  • Power Up Letdown: The Kengo's Ultimate Mastery skills are quite disappointing. Nocked Exorcism requires a bow mainhand, which currently sees very little use on them due to the Unsigned Kaneshige's power, Secret Style: Blink Slash has a incredibly strong effect of inflicting Delay after each attack, but only lasts 3 turns and has a prohibitively long cooldown of 12 turns, and Intuition tries to turn the Kengo into a counterattack-based character without any form of hostility boosting.
  • Simple, yet Awesome: The Unsigned Kaneshige's sole benefit before using emblems is boosting the Kengo's charge bar gain by 50%. Said boost is potent enough to make it the best in slot weapon for the Kengo, beating out every other katana barring very rare exceptions like the Higurashi and Shishio, two of the highly expensive Illustrious Weapons.

    Sword Master > Glorybringer
Style: Attack
Weapon Speciality: Sabre/Katana
Class Line: Sword Master -> Glorybringer
CCW: Aschallon -> Ridill

Swordsmen who derive their abilities from the innate powers within their blades.

  • An Adventurer Is You: A Jack DPS class that can do anything based on their mainhand.
  • Boring, but Practical: With certain equippable swords, Sword Master can simply activate the Blade Resonance to expend 30% of current HP to deal Plain Damage up to 30x of the health expended. This is very useful to instantly kill certain enemies that otherwise have massive defenses but very low HP, like slimes.
  • Heroes Prefer Swords: The Sword Master line evidently prefer using Sabre as their mainhand, though wielding Katana is also a good deal.
  • Jack of All Trades: The Sword Master line can provide many utilities depending on the mainhand.

    Gunslinger > Soldier
Style: Special
Weapon Speciality: Gun
CCW: Nebuchad > John Doe

Gun wielders who use specially crafted bullets to augment their attacks.

  • Awesome, but Impractical: Prior to Master Level 20, using any gun other than the John Doe is highly impractical, as they lack the auto-reload on charge attack function that makes John Doe worth using.
  • Difficult, but Awesome: The Soldier is not the easiest class to play, requiring a hefty sum of materials to craft bullets, and also having to micromanage their bullet count in battle (pre-Master Level 20) to avoid wasting a turn reloading. They make up for it by being among the most highly damaging classes in the game.
  • Magikarp Power: The Soldier's power is greatly influenced by the bullets they have loaded, and crafting the stronger bullets eats up a lot of materials, facilitating another heavy grind, but the payoff is highly worth it. Soldier also wants to reach at least Master Level 20 to make their choice of guns far less restrictive, as it lets them reload their bullets after a charge attack even without the John Doe. A fully developed Soldier is practically unrivalled in terms of sheer DPS and burst potential.

    Mystic > Nekomancer
Style: Special
Weapon Speciality: Staff
CCW: Kapilavastu > Lunatic Broom

Mages who use their unique mystical powers to provide potent support to the party, and later draw on the power of the night and cats to augment their abilities.

  • An Adventurer Is You: The Nekomancer alternates between the Buffer and the Blademaster DPS depending on whether their Cat's Meow buff is active or not.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: Prior to Master Level 30, the Nekomancer generally doesn't want to use their charge attack while using Cat's Meow, as charge attacks consume all MP, which results in a nasty debuff the next turn due to having no MP left.
  • Magikarp Power: The Nekomancer really wants to reach Master Level 30 to eliminate their biggest weaknesses, letting them start with a full 15 MP, and outright removing the sharp debuff from letting Cat's Meow expire.
    • Taking the Nekomancer to Ultimate Mastery further ramps up their power immensely with the new abilities they can learn. Oculus Felis is a powerful defensive ability, Scratching Post is a highly powerful and useful buff for OTK strategies, and Matatabby in particular fully patches up the Nekomancer's weakness of being MP reliant.
  • Rule of Cute: Who cares if the Nekomancer looks silly? It's adorable!

    Assassin > Tormentor
Style: Special
Weapon Speciality: Dagger
CCW: Misericorde > Devil's Finger

Cold killers who utilize the massive array of tools at their disposal to get the job done. They later become sadistic torturers who use every tool at their disposal to ensure the enemy suffers greatly.

  • An Adventurer Is You: The Backstabber DPS with elements of Resource Master, thanks to the exclusive inventory system for their consumables.
  • Awesome, but Impractical: The Secret Gears are fantastically versatile and can provide a wide array of utilities. The catch is that the Secret Gears are single-use items, and crafting some of them are prohibitively expensive, with gears that outright require you to spent endgame resources like the Revans series raids loots, relegating the class to a gimmick that is mostly used as a last resort for highly difficult fights.
  • Bad Powers, Good People: The Tormentor is highly cruel and sadistic, but as the granny who gives the captain the outfit says, their power is neither good or evil, and all depends on how the captain chooses to use it.
  • Slasher Smile: Both Gran and Djeeta sport a sadistic grin as the Tormentor.

    Drum Master > Rising Force
Style: Special
Weapon Speciality: Harp
CCW: Soul Echoer > Helmholtz

Performers who strike up the beat with their drums, turning the battlefield into a festival. They later bend the skies to their will with the epic power of rock and roll.

  • An Adventurer Is You: A Resource Master with elements of Scrapper DPS thanks to lowered damage but greatly boosted multiattack modifier. Rising Force further emphasizes the former by having another resource to manage.
  • The Power of Rock: Rising Force eschews the Drum Master traditional attire and practice for a full heavy metal set. They also kept their guitar regardless of what mainhand used like the Drum Master before it.
  • Shout-Out: Rising Force is named after an album of the same name by Yngwie Malsteen.
  • Support Party Member: Primarily useful for generating and maintaining charge bar and Hype, since their damage output across the board is lowered. Averted with Rising Force now they deal full damage all the time, though they lost the massive multiattack modifier.

    Dancer > Masquerade
Style: Attack
Weapon Speciality: Dagger
CCW: Arabesque > Rudolfina

Elegant dancers adept with daggers who turn the battlefield into their dance floor, attacking with grace and style.

    Mechanic
Style: Special
Weapon Speciality: Gun

Builders that customize their golems to assist in battle.

  • Crutch Character: A Mechanic with Energy Maneuver allows the player to give quick access to an instant full-party charge bar fill. The longer cooldown it has and the Mechanic's own limited utility causes the class to eventually be overshadowed by the Relic Buster.
  • Uniformity Exception: Of the extra classes, the Mechanic is the only class that doesn't have a Class Champion Weapon or an EX-2 class to go with it.
