• The first time the crew encounters a Samarlan, the man is horrifically racist towards Silo, who is a Murthian — a race that all Samarlans consider their natural slaves. Silo bears the abuse as patiently as he can, since the crew need the Sammie for information...until the Sammie smacks him upside his head. At that point, Frey concedes that they don’t need the Sammie that badly, and Silo chucks the arsehole off the roof.
  Frey: (as the Samarlan begs him to make Silo stop) He's a free man on my crew. I can't make him do anything.
• Jandrew "twitchy freak" Harkins plays chicken with a Mane ship. And wins.
• Crake confronts an Imperator during the final battle. Without its Supernatural Fear Inducer, the Imperator is forced to fight on an even footing, and promptly takes Samandra hostage. Crake, who over four books has been established as a piss-poor shot, blows the bastard away over Samandra's shoulder.
