- Characters.Digimon Mega Digimon A To M: Always seems to sport one. ZCE
- Characters.Doubt Academy Parelthon Roster: They tend to make this expression. ZCE
- Characters.Ganbare Goemon: His default expression, though he was a Perpetual Frowner in early games. ZCE
- Characters.Gemstones Plumbers And Hunters: Neon has one continuously, seeming to confirm that she is a cat Faunus. ZCE
- Characters. The Idolmaster Puchimasu: A common default expression for many Puchidols, though most apparent on Afu. ZCE
- Characters.Last Exile: Not so much in the series, but does this a lot in the Travelers from the Hourglass manga. Mostly whenever the topic of Tatiana's love life comes up.
- Characters.Seven Seeds: Mark is generally drawn with one, even if he isn't really smiling. ZCE
- Creator.Scarlett Byrne: Oh so much.◊; Nearly every picture out there has Scarlett sporting one. ZCE
- Manga. At Chirei: Orin has this permanently in cat form, predictably, and she and Okuu do it a several times in human form. ZCE
- Literature.Ground Control To Psychoelectric Girl: Ryuuko displays one from time to time. ZCE
- Manga.Food Wars: And then we have the 3rd Years: Rindou, the girl with the Cat Smile. ZCE
- Memes.Steven Universe: Peridot sings that line in a squeaky voice. And throughout the whole intro, she's got a Cat Smile. Within hours of the intro being revealed, fans commented on how cute Peridot is. Doesn't explain if Peridot is playful or mischeivous
- Roleplay.Bleach Platinum Hearts: All ZCE
- Supa, Chi, Blaze.
- For characters, all over the place, including member Aivee's.
- Nature Iramasha Leader James Mizumuzi.
- VideoGame.QT Mod: QT sports these. She loses it when her energy is rerouted to KB, causing her to shut down. ZCE
- WebOriginal.The Tower Tournament:
- More like a cat frown in Shikyo's case. She rarely smiles to begin with. ZCE
- Nai on the other hand does this throughout most of the audition. ZCE
- Leet Lingo: Nepeta replaces 'ee' with '33', to look like a Cat Smile emoticon (:33). ZCE
- Characters.Amnesia Memories: One of her sprites has this. ZCE
- Literature.Oreshura: Chiwa displays one from time to time. ZCE
- Characters.Bamboo Blade: Her usual expression. ZCE
- Characters.Kinder: Gets one of these if you manage to rescue him from the dark room. ZCE
- Characters.MAHOU Project: Their default expression. ZCE
- Characters.Dolls Fall: A commented out ZCE
- Scooby-Doo! Mystery Incorporated: Fred Jones Sr.: Can be seen making these a couple of times, like in "A Haunting In Crystal Cove". For more or less, it's due to the artstyle. ZCE
- Heartwarming.Steven Universe: Even better. That may be Peridot's first completely happy smile in the series. Not a smug smile, not a Cat Smile, not a Slasher Smile, not a Laughing Mad smile, but one of pure joy. It's goofy and Adorkable, but hey, that's Peridot in a nutshell. Compare that face to her first appearance back in "Warp Tour", and marvel at how far she's come.
- YMMV.Egyptian Mythology: The word Thoth resembles a modern slang term with a completely different meaning. Additionally, the Greek spelling of Thoth (Θώθ) resembles the emoticon OwO, used to represent a Cat Smile (with the two O's depicting eyes and the W depicting the mouth). '''Doesn't bring up anything about being playful or mischievous"
- Characters.Monster Prom Other Students: Predictably so. This is her normal smile. ZCE
- Characters.Dont Toy With Me Miss Nagatoro:
- Frequently has the expression. ZCE under Yoshi's folder
- Has a vacant open-mouthed Cat Smile, often just parrots what her friends say, and has blonde Girlish Pigtails to match. Her eyes are nearly always drawn with big empty irises in contrast to everyone else, adding to her vacant look. The anime downplays this by drawing her eyes with white highlights most of the time (flat eyes are retained for some expression shots, and arguably the black and white manga format conveys her vacant look the best since her eyes are colorless) but they're still less detailed than other characters's eyes. Doesn't explain if she's playful or mischievious
- Frequently has the expression. ZCE under Sakura's folder
- Nekoba's mouth is nearly always like this. Her fangs also add to her cat-like appearance, fitting her nickname ("neko" means "cat" in Japanese). ZCE
- Nekoba has "neko" (cat) in her name and she often has a Cat Smile.
- WebVideo.Shylily: As an Orcat, this is to be expected. ZCE
- Manga.Precarious Woman Executive Miss Black General: A frequent art choice when characters are being coy. Entry refers to the characters being shy, not playful or mischievous.
- Characters.Jo Jos Bizarre Adventure Diamond Is Unbreakable: As a flower, Tama looks a tad disturbing due to its fleshy petals and large eyes seemingly connected to thin stalks, but when it plays with the golf balls Kira gives it or takes a nap in its flower pot it looks downright adorable. It's even better in the anime where it gets a small Cat Smile when it starts warming up to Kira. The first paragraph explains Tama being playful with Kira.
- Characters.Create A Pokemon: Its masks give Kitsunoh the impression of a sneaky grin and/or a Cat Smile. The Cat Smile is preceeded by sneaky grin, making it a valid example
- Characters.Goblin Slayer: In the manga, when Goblin Slayer asks if she knew all along about the Water Town goblin nest before hiring him, and admits to having no basis for suspecting any conspiracy and had decided to interrogate all the quest-givers on a whim, Sword Maiden gives a tiny, rueful smirk at having fallen for the bluff and confessing so readily. A rueful smirk does signify a playful response, so valid
- Characters.Twin Dragons: Both of the twins have catlike mouths, but this best applies to Kaya when she feels mischievous or energetic.
- Recap. She Ra And The Princesses Of Power S 3 E 04 Moment Of Truth: Befitting of a Cat Girl, Catra makes a couple mischievous smiles that resemble ">:3"s.
- Recap.Scarlet Lady S 1 E 2 Origins Part 2: Scarlet Lady sports a smile when she declares to her disgruntled partner, "Don't worry, I'll be sure to tell our story," making it clear she plans to claim credit for all his hard work.
- Series.Scorpion: Toby freely admits that he finds Happy attractive, but her feelings toward him are more ambiguous. She does Cat Smile to herself when he calls her Halloween costume something every girl does, but still hot. Definitely sounds like she's being playful
- Supergirl.Tropes C To D: In Superman Vol 1 #338, Supergirl smiles wickedly when Brainiac hits himself with his shrinking ray and disappears.
- Cute Creature, Creepy Mouth: Tokomon looks like a marshmallow with bunny ears and a Cat Smile. Said smile conceals extremely detailed, shiny red gums and multiple rows of teeth. — Technically correctly and the face in the image linked is a valid example
- YMMV.Boyfriends: Nerd is this to the point of invoking it to sweet talk his boyfriends. He has Youthful Freckles, is the shortest of the group, and often has a Cat Smile expression. States that Nerd is being playful by sweet talking his boyfriends
- Funny.RWBY Chibi:
- Ruby runs out with a smug Cat Smile, just before Yang shrugs off her hypnosis. It specifies that Ruby has a smug look on her face, so it's valid
- Second, we see the rest of RWBY and the whole of JNPR surprise Yang with a Beowolf-shaped cake. Problem is, she mistakes it for the real thing, causing two-thirds of the cake to explode in one punch. She continues to jab at the remainder, with the rest of the attendees becaked in cake... while Nora starts nomming on the cake again with a Cat Smile on her face. Nora is being playful here
- Literature.Oni Ai: Ginbei towards a stray kitten at the beginning of episode 9. Aside from making cutesy "nyaa/meow" noises, she even sports a Cat Smile from time to time while spending time with the kitty. Ginbei is being playful towards a stray kitten. So it's valid
- Characters.Touhou Kanjuden Legacy Of Lunatic Kingdom: Has a near permanent one plastered on her face. It often serves to give her a somewhat smug look. Explains that it gives her a smug look making it a valid entry of the smug variety of this trope
- Characters.Kirby Right Back At Ya: While not always noticeable, Customer Service will sometimes sprout this smile, perhaps as an indication of his smug nature. Valid example as it explains that it gives him a smug look

Calling in favor of Playful Cat Smile. The page can probably be moved as-is since the definition is the same; I might get to that later.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.OK, the page has been moved. Here are the wicks, and on-page examples may need to be cleaned up as well.
Edit: Disambiguated the old name. I left redirects that simply reference the expression without referencing playfulness or mischievousness as redirects to the disambiguation page for now, so they'll appear green, but maybe at least some of them could be cut. I'll leave them alone for now.

Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass.Should wicks that are merely potholes of the gesture to Cat Smile be removed? Like the one in =3’s description, which says “ Not to be confused with :3.”
Edit: That wick’s gone now, thanks.

Join the Five-Man Band cleanup project!Yes, I feel like they add nothing to the description.
She/Her | Currently cleaning N/ASince they don't involve a character being mischievous or playful, I feel you can remove them too.
Added Cheshire Cat Grin to Cat Smile
Kirby is awesome.I agree with the removals that were discussed.
Patiently awaiting the release of Paper Luigi and the Marvelous Compass. When taking up the wick cleanup of this, I noticed that some examples give some context that the character keeps the cat smile even when sad/crying. I think these fit Perpetual Smiler (Or Frozen Face in extreme cases), and that we could add that trope to the disambiguation page.
Alright, I've just deleted many on-page examples because they didn't have enough context for playfulness. We are at 387 wicks now.
Only 100 wicks left! I also went ahead and added Perpetual Smiler to the disambig page.
The only page left that's not the ambiguity index, newsletter, wick cleaning project page, or a redirect is TriumphantExample.C. When someone decides what to do with that example, I think this can be closed.
My troper wallAlright, closing up!

Crown Description:
Consensus was to rename Cat Smile due to misuse. Cat Smile is about a character making the :3 face to show playfulness or mischievousness. However, a wick check showed that it is plagued by zero-context examples. What should the trope be renamed to?
We have enough consensus to rename, but I figured it would be safe to crowner the name we go with due to recent discussion over which adjective to use. (I downvoted "Mischievous" and upvoted "Playful" due to the last few posts on the previous page.)
