• They Wasted a Perfectly Good Plot: in the last two books he wrote for the series, Neil Gerson had both a tong leader (Louisiana!) and an assistant secretary of the U.S. cabinet (Tennessee!) set up as a long term nemesis for Toby Holt. With Aaron Fletcher taking over in Illinois!, the tong leader is never mentioned again and the assistant secretary is eliminated in a matter of sentences in a way that Toby never realized he was ever a threat.
