  • Awesome Music:
    • "Eternals", the menu theme, has a hopeful feel to it. It feels fitting as you make your way through the SRRL career.
    • "Heat and Havoc", one of Cairo's tunes, is an energetic piece that'll get you pumped. Given that Cairo is the first environment you race it, it feels appropriate.
    • "The Flame of Life", which can play on Abruzzo, has a sense of wonder to it, which makes racing through the forested region all the more exciting.
  • Best Level Ever: Volcano and Mars are frequently considered as the two best venues in the game thanks to their tracks' generally very quick, race-friendly layouts. For Volcano, the two most well-liked tracks are Deep Dive - featuring a crazy descent into the volcano's belly at the beginning, and Hell, the track with the single largest jump in the game outside of Neptune. Mars instead has Mariner, one of the longest tracks in the game, and Opportunity, where Class IV crafts can reach speeds up to 1600 kilometers per hour.
  • Funny Moments:
  • Friendly Fandoms: With the BallisticNG and FAST Racing League fandoms, to the virtue of all being somewhat of fan sequels targeted at those who miss games like Wipeout and F-Zero.
  • Goddamned Bats: It's not uncommon for your opponents to spin you out. Especially with AI pilots who refuse to move away from their racing line most of the time.
  • Game-Breaker:
    • The Sulha ships run rampant in the metagame thanks to their combination of high speed, great acceleration and a strong energy pool. They're tougher to handle than most other ships in the game, and are also rather unforgiving because of their low hull strength, but when mastered they easily become the fastest ships in the game. It gets even better if you equip the Turbo Boost and the Augmented Propeller. Hell, even after the numerous nerfs it has received, Sulha is still considered a top-tier choice.
    • The Asera ships are also a popular pick, as they have the best energy pool in the game hands down and are far more forgiving than the Sulha ships. The only thing that doesn't make them nearly as overpowered is their average top speed, but that can be countered by equipping the Augmented Propeller. Overtime, however, the gap between them and Sulha has become more and more narrow, thanks to Sulha being constantly nerfed, to the point that right now both stand on equal ground.
  • Good Bad Bugs: "Wall-grinding" damage and slowdown was framerate-dependent, resulting in some player deciding to scrape along walls to get better time. Part of update 1.4.1 was to address this issue.
  • Low-Tier Letdown:
    • The Lunare ships have amazing top speed, acceleration and handling, but their horrible energy pool doesn't give them enough room to use power-ups, something that teams like Sulha can do with reckless abandon. They're not bad per-se, the problem is that other ships can do Lunare's job far more efficiently. However, after the 1.4.1 update patched the wall-grinding bugs, Lunare went from being one of the lower-tier choices to a high-tier choice on the same level as Asera, even beating Sulha in some tracks.
    • The Conqueror ships have the unfortunate luck of being the worst ships in the entire game. While their extremely high top speed sounds very tempting on paper, their awful handling and acceleration make them far too sluggish for their own good, coupled up with an energy pool that takes forever to charge in spite of its decent power, something that doesn't let them use active power-ups as much as they want to.
    • Koeniggswerth's ships, while having great handling and shielding, as well as a decent energy pool, are significantly held back by their lack of top speed and acceleration. While it isn't an uncommon sight to see Koeniggswerth players place high in Survival leaderboards, they easily perform the worst among all the teams in straightforward racing alongside Conqueror. However, like Lunare, Koeniggswerth have become relevant thanks to patches and is competitive outside of survival mode.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • The Conqueror is a super-fast block of wood.note
    • 7.note
    • The SRRL builds tracks anywhere. note
  • Most Wonderful Sound: "Congratulations! Platinum Medal Awarded!" Considering the Nintendo Hard requirements to get most platinum medals, this will be music to the ears.
  • Overshadowed by Controversy: The game got a lot of attention in late 2017 when YouTube channel Digital Foundry claimed the Xbox One X version to be a Porting Disaster that ran at a worse frame rate than the PlayStation 4 Pro version despite running at the same resolution. The developers responded by saying that the One X version ran at a native 4K resolution as compared to 1080p on the Pro, and even went so far as to threaten Digital Foundry with a lawsuit unless they removed and apologized for the incorrect video. Digital Foundry eventually did so, but pointed out that the developers' claims weren't entirely accurate either (the game sometimes runs at 4K, but the average resolution is nearer 1440p).
  • Porting Disaster:
    • While there's fierce debate about the quality of the Xbox One X port, the version for the original Xbox One is agreed to be easily the weakest incarnation of the game, due to a comparatively low resolution, noticeably degraded graphics, and a framerate capped to 30fps (half the maximum of the other versions), with the game often struggling to even meet that framerate.
    • The Nintendo Switch port handled by Nicalis, which was initially pitched as a launch title for the system only to end up being delayed for two years. Despite the long delay, the Switch version's results are as on par as base Xbox One version with muddier visuals thanks to the game's variable resolution problems.
  • Scrappy Mechanic: A downplayed example is present in the Steam original. Skins and colors are earned through at least an hour of play, or purchased at the Steam marketplace for real money. While it can be irritating to get the same Frozen Water color instead of Asera's Mecha skin due to how rare the latter is, they can also be bought at the marketplace instead of leaving it to chance. In addition, the skins have no effect on game play, as they are cosmetic.
  • Suspiciously Similar Song: Portions of Great Dark Spot have similarities to the theme to The Flash, while Red Storm has similarites to the theme to Batman Begins.

  • That One Level:
    • While Europa is generally seen as the hardest venue in the game, a track that is particularly reviled is Spinning Pipe, especially its extremely awkward opening section where one wrong move will send you flying off the track. That does not mean the other tracks are devoid of nasty surprises though: Shallow Waters has a series of extremely nasty corners and massive jumps that can crash slower ships, while Surface Sprint features extreme elevation changes that will send faster ships flying away, as well as a sideways jump at the end that requires utmost precision with your ship's handling. Attempt no landings here, indeed.
    • Among the original four venues, Alaska is considered the toughest. Speedway and Revolving get much of the flak, though: the former because of its tortuous, winding opening part that is difficult to memorize, and the latter because of the final part, which despite being almost completely straight, requires good pitching management because of its extreme elevation changes.
    • Another widely feared level is Neptune: Red Giant, especially the final part, where two massive space stations spin right on the zero-gravity dive that leads to the portal linked to the finish line. Not only said stations can potentially block unluckier pilots from going straight towards the portal, but the portal itself is even glitched: if you go too fast you will end up going through the portal without warping, and destroying your ship, setting you back a handful of seconds.
