* OvershadowedByControversy: The game got a lot of attention in late 2017 when [=YouTube=] channel Digital Foundry claimed the UsefulNotes/XboxOne X version to be a PortingDisaster that ran at a worse frame rate than the UsefulNotes/PlayStation4 Pro version despite running at the same resolution. The developers responded by saying that the One X version ran at a native [=4K=] resolution as compared to [=1080p=] on the Pro, and even went so far as to threaten Digital Foundry with a lawsuit unless they removed and apologized for the incorrect video. Digital Foundry eventually did so, but pointed out that the developers' claims weren't entirely accurate either (the game ''sometimes'' runs at [=4K=], but the average resolution is nearer [=1440p=]).

** While there's [[BrokenBase fierce debate]] about the quality of the UsefulNotes/XboxOne X port, the version for the original Xbox One is agreed to be easily the weakest incarnation of the game, due to a comparatively low resolution, noticeably degraded graphics, and a framerate capped to [=30fps=] (half the maximum of the other versions), with the game often struggling to even meet ''that'' framerate.

** The SRRL builds tracks anywhere. [[note]] Some of the track locations tell very interesting stories: Tartatus Mines was bought from a (potentially at the time still working) mining company, the Rotorua track was built through a shipwreck where probably hundreds of people died, and the Origin Black Hole comes dangerously close to the event horizon of a literal black hole.[[/note]]

* LowTierLetdown:
** The Lunare ships have amazing top speed, acceleration and handling, but their horrible energy pool doesn't give them enough room to use power-ups, something that teams like Sulha can do with reckless abandon. They're not bad per-se, [[OvershadowedByAwesome the problem is that other ships can do Lunare's job far more efficiently.]] However, after the 1.4.1 update patched the wall-grinding bugs, Lunare went from being one of the lower-tier choices to a high-tier choice on the same level as Asera, even beating Sulha in some tracks.
** The Conqueror ships have the unfortunate luck of being the worst ships in the entire game. While their extremely high top speed sounds very tempting on paper, their awful handling and acceleration make them far too sluggish for their own good, coupled up with an energy pool that takes forever to charge in spite of its decent power, something that doesn't let them use active power-ups as much as they want to.
** Koeniggswerth's ships, while having great handling and shielding, as well as a decent energy pool, are significantly held back by their lack of top speed and acceleration. While it isn't an uncommon sight to see Koeniggswerth players place high in Survival leaderboards, they easily perform the worst among all the teams in straightforward racing alongside Conqueror. However, like Lunare, Koeniggswerth have become relevant thanks to patches and is competitive outside of survival mode.

* TierInducedScrappy: Lunare, Conqueror, and Koeniggswerth often get flak because of their low-tier placement (or both high-tier and low-tier for Koeniggswerth), all for different reasons.

** [[https://youtu.be/Y0pZvCZ6ZwU "Eternals"]], the menu theme, has a hopeful feel to it. It feels fitting as you make your way through the SRRL career.
** [[https://youtu.be/2va0axNRr_c "Heat and Havoc"]], one of Cairo's tunes, is an energetic piece that'll get you pumped. Given that Cairo is the first environment you race it, it feels appropriate.
** [[https://youtu.be/NI9nGDu2y-E "The Flame of Life"]], which can play on Abruzzo, has a sense of wonder to it, which makes racing through the forested region all the more exciting.

* GameBreaker: The Sulha ships run rampant in the metagame thanks to their combination of high speed, great acceleration and a strong energy pool. [[DifficultButAwesome They're tougher to handle than most other ships in the game, and are also rather unforgiving because of their low hull strength, but when mastered they easily become the fastest ships in the game.]] It gets even better if you equip the Turbo Boost and the Augmented Propeller. Hell, even after the numerous nerfs it has received, Sulha is still considered a top-tier choice.

* ThatOneLevel: While Europa is generally seen as the hardest venue in the game, a track that is particularly reviled is Spinning Pipe, especially its extremely awkward opening section where one wrong move will send you flying off the track. That does not mean the other tracks are devoid of nasty surprises though: Shallow Waters has a series of extremely nasty corners and massive jumps that can crash slower ships, while Surface Sprint features extreme elevation changes that will send faster ships flying away, as well as a sideways jump at the end that requires utmost precision with your ship's handling. [[Film/TwoThousandTenTheYearWeMakeContact Attempt no landings here]], indeed.

* DifficultButAwesome: Some players found out that arming class 1 ships with Slipstream Enhancer allows them to catch up with ''class 4'' ships. That is, if the player can constantly stays behind their opponents.

* GuideDangIt: Platinum medal requirements for Time Trial and Survival events are not listed in the game proper. This might or might not be deliberate on developers' part.

** The Nintendo Switch port handled by Creator/{{Nicalis}}, which was initially pitched as a launch title for the system only to end up being delayed for two years. Despite the long delay, the Switch version's results are as on par as base Xbox One version with muddier visuals thanks to the game's variable resolution problems.

* ScrappyMechanic: A downplayed example is present in the Steam original. Skins and colors are earned through at least an hour of play, or purchased at the Steam marketplace for real money. While it can be irritating to get the same Frozen Water color instead of Asera's Mecha skin due to how rare the latter is, they can also be bought at the marketplace instead of leaving it to chance. In addition, the skins have no effect on game play, as they are cosmetic.
