YMMV / Pokémon Friendlocke

Go To

  • Can't Un-Hear It: Some voices are said to fit their Pokémon extremely well, such as Tracey's Mudkip/Marshtomp, Oni's Koffing/Weezing or Pupchan’s Tadbulb.
  • Catharsis Factor: After the complete party wipe against Clay in the previous stream, seeing Mikeydeez* one-shot Clay’s Excadrill with a single Hi-Jump Kick is nothing short of beautiful.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Claire, who uniquely gets among the most fanart of the cast in spite of largely being absent from any major events in the episodes, likely due to a mix of her humorous personality and strange character design.
    • Ken, both for being a Sableye, and for his role as a Lethal Joke Character, becoming one of the strongest Pokémon in the run in spite of his personality as an obnoxious, creepy Redditor.
    • Collin, due to his status as the Butt-Monkey of the series, and yet still managing to get back at Derek for his constant abuse in his final moments.
    • Mikey, whose Death Seeker gimmick and Large Ham personality quickly endeared him to viewers. His persona in Season 2, Mikeydeez*, also became a beloved figure due to being even more hammy than before and constantly risking it all with High Jump Kick.
    • Monsters, with his status as an Expy of Borat quickly turning him into one of the most consistently hilarious party members. Like with Mikey, his Season 2 persona, Pete Ness the Cradily, becomes a fan favorite with his various Cutaway Gags, Non-Idle Rich humor, and surprising Hidden Depths in the endgame.
    • Some of the more minor, less-used team members in Season 1 have oddly pretty decently sized fanbases in spite of their lack of screentime, most notably in the cases of Oni, Red, and Jae.
    • Hannah, a mod for Salty's Twitch channel, who received fan art in the first season and even a moment in the animated music video as a Jirachi Pokésona despite never appearing in the season proper. Many were overjoyed when she made her official debut in Season 2.
    • Sauerkraut, Red's character in Season 2, received a substantial amount of fan art on their introduction due to their lovably Eeyore-like personality.
      • Their character in Season 3, Da Cheff!, is pretty popular as well, due to being quite a jovial chef who puts passion in their cooking.
    • Cookie, Hugo's debut character in Season 3, quickly became one of the most popular characters in the entire series for his child-like personality and fitting design despite only being caught in Stream 6.
    • Phil is by far the character with the least amount of screen time throughout the entire series, being released immediately after joining, but the egg fiasco leading up to his appearance, the sheer fact that he's a Walking Wake and the minimalist inclusion of his existence have lead to him become an instant fan favorite, with Salty calling him the Glup Shitto of Friendlocke.
  • Fanon:
    • Each and every friend is often depicted in fanart with defining accessories; for the less bit-oriented characters, they're often shown with their real self's clothing, and the more personality based characters they're shown with clothing based on the personality, although in some cases the former appearance is true for the latter characterization.
    • Gerber is often depicted as being able to summon or channel the power of his Mightyena form in his Vileplume form like a Stand, an interpretation that became Ascended Fanon in the Season 1 OP.
    • Fanart commonly depicts Mykyie as being haunted by Lark due to having killed them in his introduction. It helps that Primeape gained a Ghost-type evolution in Scarlet and Violet.
  • Heartwarming in Hindsight: Turo's obsession with Smosh was joked about mere months before Anthony Padilla returned after six years. The finale of Season 3 lampshaded this, noting that Turo's ideal future came to be after all.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: A running gag in the live chat in Violet was talking about how sad it was that Pastey died. Not only did he survive the series, but it was him that took down A.I. Turo's final Pokémon.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Pufferfish eats carrot; moaning intensifies.
    • "Do you want to evolve?" "Nah."Explanation (Spoilers)
    • "God I love the limited 3D they use for this game. It's so charming."Explanation
    • "Let them cook!"Explanation (Spoilers)
  • Never Live It Down:
    • In a particularly notable example, Gerbicycle 2's "cooking" killing three team members and Jayyweed during the battle against Ryme has become easily one of the most infamous moments not just in its season, but the whole series at large.
    • Grunpilo from Season 3 will likely never live down dying to a car that was 13 levels weaker than them.
  • Unexpected Character: NO ONE expected the actual Dana Snyder to show up at the end of Season 2.
