** Mikey, whose DeathSeeker gimmick and LargeHam personality quickly endeared him to viewers.
** Monsters, with his status as an Expy of quickly turning him into one of the most consistently hilarious party members. Lightning strikes twice when his Cradily persona, Pete Ness, becomes a fan favorite in Season 2 with his various Cutaway Gags, NonIdleRich humor, and .
** Some of the more minor, less-used team members have oddly pretty decently sized fanbases in spite of their lack of screentime, most notably in the cases of Oni, Red, and Jae.

* HeartwarmingInHindsight: Turo's obsession with Smosh was joked about mere months before Anthony Padilla returned after six years. The finale of Season 3 lampshaded this, noting that Turo's ideal future came to be after all.

There is a Tear Jerker Page

* TearJerker:
** While the series is for all intents and purposes a comedy, the death scenes of various members of the cast can be shockingly somber, most notably in the cases of , , , , , and .
** The absolute massacre that happened at Clay's gym. Salty went into the gym without grinding, in spite of CHURMY practically begging him not to, and he paid the price, suffering a wipe almost as bad as the non-canon Steven battle. Some of the most beloved members, such as , were slain by the Excadrill, and even though was able to beat the Excadrill, they were later struck down by Palpitoad. Salty and the Pokémon that were in the box were absolutely devastated. Overconfidence isn't always a slow killer...
** the team was very happy, but in Chargestone Cave, was killed by a Liepard, shifting the tone drastically. Even worse was that Derek saw the mistake and was about to switch out but the Liepard managed to hit him before he could.
** [[spoiler:While there are some funny moments in it, most of Coach Cos' "recon" to the Elite Four is absolutely this. With her speech beforehand effectively being a thinly-veiled suicide note, not at all helped by her last words only being "I'm sorry" twice... It says something when practically ALL of chat was begging either for her to reconsider or for Derek to stop her.]]
** Practically ALL of Stream 8 is this on account of being just as deadly, if not more-so then , starting with [[spoiler:The death of fan-favorite Mikey during the first Elite Four battle, followed by Derek losing his starter, Jay, to Zekrom during the fight with N, and then EVERYONE aside from the 6 friends left in the box being killed by Ghetsis.]]

** Phil is by far the character with the least amount of screen time throughout the entire series, being released immediately after joining, but the egg fiasco leading up to his appearance, the sheer fact that he's a Walking Wake and the minimalist inclusion of his existence have lead to him become an instant fan favorite, with Salty calling him the Glup Shitto of Friendlocke.
