• Complete Monster: Season 3: Robert Owen is a retired chief superintendent and the true abuser at the Pontarfynach children's home. Under the guise of giving the children "opportunities" and "rehabilitation", Owen took to sexually abusing them, claiming dozens of victims over several years. Uncaring when the 14-year-old Caitrin John falls pregnant by him, Owen bludgeons a local GP called Vaughan to death when Vaughan came to suspect that the children were being abused, and manipulated his underling Prosser and Dr Blake into helping him cover it up, framing Vaughan as the culprit. They then make it look like Vaughan committed suicide out of guilt, thereby staining an innocent man's name with his own sexual crimes. Undeterred, Robert continued his abuse for years until the home was shut down, and thwarted, blackmailed and threatened anyone who attempted to investigate his crimes, with several of his victims later committing suicide. Goading Prosser into murdering former detective Iwan Thomas when he gets too close to the truth, Owen also had his former victim Kieron Jones murdered in prison when he threatened to go public. When Prosser breaks free of his hold and realizes that Owen was in fact the abuser, Owen gloats that Prosser and Dr Blake mean nothing to him and that they merely served as "useful tools", before attempting to break Prosser mentally by claiming they are the same kind of man.
• Jerkass Woobie:
  • Wyn Bratton. Prosser has a hard-on for sending Bratton up for the murders, and seemingly no one in town besides perhaps Lowri even gives him the time of day.
  • Iwan Thomas. He had his life and career ruined by Prosser, his wife left him, his daughter was not his, but he did not deserve to be killed. He might have hated Matthias, but his determination eventually helped solve the cover-up at the orphanage.
  • Prosser himself. Even if he killed Iwan Thomas and was an Obstructive Bureaucrat at times, you can't help but to feel pity for him. He only did this out of his blind trust for his predecessor, CS Owen, and buying his tale that Vaughan was the abuser and that all future investigations into the orphanage's past should be stopped so as to not hurt anyone of the victims anymore.
• The Woobie:
  • Caitrin John, Kieron Jones, Paul Webb and many other kids that suffered abuse during their time at the Pontarfynach Children's Home by the Devil's Bridge.
  • Mathias. Suffers of depression and guilt over the death of his daughter and his marriage ends because of it. Starts a relationship with Gwen Thomas, but then she gets killed and gets dragged for it. Iwain Thomas constantly harasses him, assaults him and even burns down his trailer. When Iwain gets killed, he becomes the main suspect. Prosser gets super obstructive with him when he gets too close to what happened at the Children's Home. No wonder he almost committed suicide.
