YMMV / Dark Simpsons

Go To

  • Alternative Joke Interpretation:
    • Upon confronting Krusty for molesting Bart in "Krusty Get Biz-Zay", Homer says "you made my daughter cry!" While it's true that Bart was reduced to tears by the ordeal, you have to wonder if Homer is too stupid to tell what gender his own son is, or if what Krusty did made Lisa or Maggie cry as well.
    • Before arresting Marge in "Marge Simpson In Chains", Agent Scully calls this "the worst assignment [they] ever had". Is this because they find her felony of stealing an office pen (or at least its punishment) ridiculous, or did they expect better of Marge?
  • Ass Pull: "Lisa Gets Bullied at School" has Lisa attempting to shoot up the school (without any apparent bloodshed), then running away toward a bridge as the police launch a manhunt for her, leading viewers to expect her to either commit suicide or get caught by the police. In a violation of Consistency, the ending shows her working The Oldest Profession.
  • Catharsis Factor: Wherever Mr. Burns dies in a video such as "Coronavirus Hits the Simpsons" and "Homer Lives Out the American Dream", it's satisfying for the viewers who watched "Mr. Burns Violates Bart", where he ends up a Karma Houdini at the end.
  • Crosses the Line Twice: Pretty much every video.
    • One of the best/worst is "Marge Gets Her Sax Blown". Marge raping both of her children? Horrible. Marge raping both of her children and then cheerfully singing "Sweet Home Alabama", as if to brag about her incestuous trysts? Hilarious.
    • "Bart Licks a Pickle" does this from beginning to end. It starts with the common "Mr. Plow" gag, which has happened so often by this point that Bart's reaction is nothing more than a resigned This Is Gonna Suck. The next day, Homer distributes a newspaper with the headline "Bart Named World's Greatest Sex Machine", which everyone in town reads (including, somehow, an astronaut in space). Because of the newspaper, the Springfieldians storm the Simpsons' residence and "pile on" Bart the same way they piled on Marge in "Everyone Pile on Homer's Wife". Bart is then taken to hospital because his coccyx is cracked (which the rest of the family laugh at). Bart gets a Hope Spot where he is fitted with a fanny cast, only for Dr. Hibbert to reveal that he's equipped said cast with a viewing window, to which Homer cheers while a bunch of the Springfieldians from earlier watch, implying that history will repeat itself. Bart hits a downward spiral of depression, eventually drawing the "SAD drawing" from "Lisa's Sax", to which Homer has the same reaction he did in canon, and Marge decides to get Bart some professional help. The last scene is Bart being taken to a mental facility, where his new bunkmate is...one Leon Kompowsky. The whole thing is incredibly messed up, yet so absurd and funny at the same time.
    • From "Bart is a Sociopath": Bart disemboweling a cat? Horrifying. Bart disemboweling a cat whilst cheerfully saying "knife goes in, guts come out!" during the Gory Discretion Shot? Comedy gold!
  • Harsher in Hindsight: "The Simpsons Practice Social Distancing" depicts Marge losing her sanity over being forced to stay home due to a virus, culminating with her eating Maggie's brains. Two months later, an official Simpsons short was released as part of YouTube's Dear Class of 2020 event. Homer, Bart, and Lisa are depicted being none the worse for being under quarantine, but Marge is a complete wreck, standing defeatedly in the messy kitchen with a Thousand-Yard Stare. It gets worse when you realize Maggie doesn't appear in this short.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: "Homer Protects His House" is about how Homer was killed by Sideshow Bob and Bart vows revenge even if it takes years. This becomes an actual plot in Treehouse of Horror XXXIV with a minor adjustment in characters involved.
  • Jerkass Woobie: Depending on the episode, anyone, especially the members from the Simpsons family can be affected by this.
  • Memetic Molester:
    • Homer Jay Simpson, who has no qualms about molesting his own children or even other people's children.
    • Bart is on the opposite end of this being the go-to target of being raped.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • Chief Wiggum is an obscure Simpsons character.Explanation
    • Some commenters keep a running tally of the death count for each Simpsons character, including at least one other user specifically dedicated to it. A similar running tally exists for the times each Simpsons character is raped.
    • "If this video is taken down, that means it's canon." Ascended in the community post following the initial removal of "Homer Can't Let Her Go".
Some of you have been asking what happened to the full Dark Simpsons episode released last week. I'm sorry to say that it has been taken down due to copyright infringement. So cheers! It's officially been canonized.
    • "I need your saddest/darkest Dark Simpsons episode. No, that's too sad/dark."
  • Moment of Awesome:
    • In “Lisa’s Substitute Teacher” Mr. Bergstrom suddenly arriving at the school and shooting Skinner to death after learning the latter raped Lisa.
    • In "Coronavirus Hits the Simpsons", after Mr. Burns boasts who has the guts to stop him, Abe Simpson of all people answers the call and shoots Mr. Burns point blank in the chest, to the applause of the crowd.
    • In "Homer Protects His House", Sideshow Bob causes Homer's death with a wrecking ball crushing Homer against his house. Bart in turn spends 20 years in exacting revenge against Sideshow Bob and he even succeeds! To top it off he killed Sideshow Bob by destroying the building he's in with a wrecking ball!
    • One of the reanimated scenes on Sour Simpsons is Marge demanding Leon Kompowsky, who's infamous for raping Bart in Dark Simpsons videos specifically, to stay away from her son.
  • Special Effects Failure:
    • When Homer jumps off a building in "Marge and Ned Have Dessert", Homer suddenly disappears out of the shot as he's falling.
    • When Homer gets mauled by stray dogs in "Homer Is the Last Man on Earth", the scene doesn't transition to the dogs mauling him very well. While this could be less notable if it was a Seamless Cut, the fact that it was on an actual Dark Simpsons episodes makes it more noticeable.
  • Spiritual Successor:
  • Squick: Crops up from time to time.
    • In "Hot Fudge", Homer craps on Moe, Otto, and Barney from above.
    • "Bart and Lisa's Snowball Fight" has Bart fishing his own poop out of the toilet and throwing it at Lisa.
    • In "A Noble Spirit Embiggens Groundskeeper Willie", Willie eats out of the toilet.
    • In "Bart Shovels Horse Manure", Bart causes Homer to get food poisoning from eating horse manure for not buying a new game for him and forces him to make money by shoveling horse manure.
    • In "Homer Loves Crab Juice", Homer drinks a ton of crab juice, then gale-force pisses in Bart's mouth.
    • In "Bart Drinks His Milk", Bart drinks a carton of milk, only to discover that it has been replaced with Homer's...well, guess.
    • In "Homer Gets Fired", Homer is craving a hot dog to eat while at work. He heads into the restroom and finds a hot dog in the toilet and scarfs it down. Mr. Burns, who was watching Homer eat it via surveillance camera, is so disgusted by this, he promptly fires Homer for it.
  • Take That, Scrappy!: Ms. Hoover gets shot by Ralph, with assistance from his dad, after she humiliated him in front of his class. No tears were shed for her.
