Due to its nature as a Danganronpa Fan Game, all spoilers for the entire game will be left unmarked in the examples below. You Have Been Warned!
- Base-Breaking Character: Tsurugi Kinjo was bound to be divisive, due to being the main non-mastermind antagonist in the group in the likes of Nagito and Kokichi. Some find him to be an incredibly fascinating character due to how he views the world and justifies his actions. Not only does he serve an important role by causing tension and conflict in the group, but has a lot of depth to his character and ends up realizing his mistakes and attempts to atone for them after Chapter 4. Others find him to be too obnoxious and overly self-righteous for no good reason, with his worse actions being unbelievably insane (such as telling Akane to kill herself over an accident done in self-defense). Many find his role as an antagonist to be ineffective, as his actions don’t result in many consequences in the story when you really think about it, coming across as a character who acts insane and antagonistic just because. It also doesn’t help that he ends up regressing and going back to his old ways by the end of the game, resulting in him causing even more controversial actions in SDRA2
- Captain Obvious Reveal: Yuki Maeda being the mastermind was this for some players, who noticed his lack of a protagonist's trademark ahoge and his increasingly cynical perception of the others and thus were able to guess that he would eventually turn on them.
- Fans Prefer the New Her: A lot of fans seem to prefer Akane's villain look to her regular look due to her going from a regular, prim and proper maid to an Unkempt Beauty.
- Fridge Brilliance: The cast being served Impossibly Delicious Food during their time in the Chapter 4's ballroom may come off as somewhat odd, since Junko is too busy operating Monokuma to possibly have the time to cook such a feast... Until you remember that at that point in the timeline she already has the Ultimate Cook at her beck and call.
- Hilarious in Hindsight
- Two of the titles are the Ultimate Maid (Kirumi Tojo) and the Ultimate Inventor (Miu Iruma), just like Danganronpa V3: Killing Harmony. In addition, there's also a character named Maki.
- The relationship between Kizuna and Akane, moreso during Chapter 2, becomes a bit more stranger when, in Super Danganronpa Another 2, Yoruko (who's close friends with Kizuna's mom) and Sora (who's an incarnation of Akane) are really, really close friends.
- One True Pairing: Haruhiko and Satsuki have become a beloved pairing among all circles of the fandom after both of them agreed to kill themselves to save everyone along with the tragic reveal that they used to date before having their memories erased.
- Player Punch: In the final chapter, Utsuro manages to drive Tsurugi, Rei and Teruya into despair by delivering breaking speeches to each. That's bad enough, but the real kicker is that you are playing as him, and therefore you are forced to verbally fight your own friends.
- Ron the Death Eater: Mitsuhiro Higa gets this somewhat, due to his unpopularity. While certainly a bad person in his own right, many forget that Mitch was still driven by Monokuma to kill Kiyoka, no matter how unsympathetic his choice was. Yet many act like he murdered just because, and had no remorse over it. In reality, he only did it because he wanted to escape a deadly situation. Likewise, his advances towards Akane get exaggerated from sexual harassment to downright attempted rape! This is despite the fact that there’s no evidence that he ever attempted to force himself on her, and his Free Time Events confirm that he thought she was secretly into him due to his celebrity status. While certainly a sleazy scumbag, he’s not the remorseless murderer and rapist his haters sometimes portray him as.
- The Scrappy: Mitsuhiro Higa is easily the most unpopular character in Danganronpa Another. He’s perverted, arrogant, and an otherwise very unlikable creep who murders a very likable character with little good reason. He also makes sexual advances towards fan favorite Akane, which is largely forgotten by the cast afterwards, including Akane herself. While he’s not the worst person in the cast morally, with characters like Kizuna and Utsuro trumping him in that regard, his utter lack of depth, especially in his Free Time Events, make him fail at either being likable or a Love to Hate character. While likely deliberately written to be one-dimensionally unlikable, he stands out as a sore thumb compared to the rest of the cast which have more complexity.
- Tear Jerker:
- The ending, in which Akane sacrifices herself to protect Rei from Monokuma, followed by Utsuro letting Tsurugi, Rei and Teruya go and refusing to leave even as the facility collapses around him.
- The credits sequence, which depicts Utsuro plunging into the ocean depths to drown as the remains of those who died float up, helped by the Solemn Ending Theme of "I Believe" by KOKIA.
- Unintentionally Unsympathetic: Mitsuhiro Higa qualifies to an extent. While he was driven to murder by Monokuma and only wanted to escape a deadly situation, he still comes across as unsympathetic, as the motive had little effect on him, and he was planning to kill from very early on, not even trying to work with others to find another nonviolent solution. Of course, he’s called out by the cast for his actions, but is still called a friend by them, including Akane who Mitch sexually harassed! While his execution was a step too far, it’s hard for anyone to genuinely miss him. As a result, Tsurugi’s satisfaction with his execution doesn’t come across as impactful and shocking as it might have been, with him really only revealing his true nature when he believes that all murderers should receive the same fate as Mitch.
