YMMV / Code Geass: Paladins of Voltron

Go To

  • Broken Base: The decision to make Lelouch a partial Composite Character with Keith, namely by inheriting Keith's Galra heritage. While many have found it interesting, others feel that Lelouch has enough family issues as is, and that being part Galra merely makes his past too complicated.
  • Friendly Fandoms
    • This work seems to be part of a trifecta of Code Geass crossovers/fusion fics with similar concepts and tropes thrown around: consisting of this, Code Jedi and Code Prime. Iron117Prime has commissioned covers and fanart for both fanfics, and all three authors of those respective fics seem to praise each other's work. Not to mention that Paladins of Voltron is being beta-read by Iron117Prime himself.
  • Hilarious in Hindsight: As denoted with the above Friendly Fandoms, it seems that both Code Prime and this story have a lot in common:
    • Mao's upgraded Geass ability is identical to Megatron's Dark Geass in Code Primenote , only this time, Megatron uses it more often than not.
    • Both have seemingly improved versions of the SAZ massacre; both spare Euphemia, factor in the crossover villain's master plans, and set it from accidental to intentional.
    • Britannia getting utterly humiliated by a Combining Mecha. But whereas there’s only one in this fanfic, Code Prime has two, Bruticus and Devastator.
  • They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character:
    • Mao's presence in the story is ultimately the same as it was in canon, aside from getting a powered up Geass that lets him create illusions of whatever the target fears most. The potential uses of this new power are barely explored before Mao exits the plot, which some readers felt was rather disappointing. Chapter 32 addresses this, though, as it is revealed that Mao is still alive (albeit just barely so) and in Haggar's possession, with the implication she is going to turn him into a Robeast. Sure enough, Robeast!Mao acts as the Final Boss the Paladins face during the Black Rebellion.
    • A few people feel this way about Lelouch inheriting Keith's backstory (and thus being part Galra), feeling that he has enough parental issues as is.
