  • Accidental Innuendo: Lady Carina mentioning the player's durability before entering phase two.
Lady Carina: I didn't expect you to have such durability... Let's see who can last the longest
    • There are also some accidental visual innuendos, such as Island Cloud Extract and Liquid Starlight.
  • Angst? What Angst?: The player doesn't feel any exhaustion or stress from the tremendous amount of work they did in The Eternal Mines for an entire month and is capable of defeating King Calvus IV by themselves right after that. Although it may not be surprising as the player uses their rowboat to travel to Redwake and beat up Jaw Pirates by themselves in their first day after escaping being experimented on. The later one is justified as the player lose their memory before wake up at Dawn Island.
  • Breather Level: Chapter 5 is one of the least challenging out of every chapter, as the chapter doesn't have any difficult bosses or tough enemies. And the chapter itself revolves around player's exploration to obtain their first awakening.
    • Of course, since you'll be spending a lot of time out at sea during the first awakening questline, you'll still have to deal with typical ocean hazards like rough seas, whirlpools, hostile NPC ships, and the possibility of running into a shark or sea monster, as well as the bizarre and lengthy navigation aspect. But the point still stands that at least there are no difficult bosses or story enemies.
  • Broken Base: The PvP aspect of the game is very debatable. as anyone who reaches level 50 will automatically have their PvP enabled, which means they could get killed by any player regardless of their levels or stats, and causes them to lose their renown and galleons in a fight they had no hopes of winning due to simply having a much lower level
  • Cheese Strategy: Surrounding a bunch of Gunpowder Barrel on a mini boss and hitting the barrel will instantly kill them. This method makes it easier to defeat mini-bosses for low level player to obtain xp or boss's drops.
  • Complacent Gaming Syndrome: Most players (especially Assasin or PvP players) play Mage or other magic buildsnote  because magic skills have better AOE than weapons and strength. Even among those classes, there are further instances of this:
    • Conjurer: Because they've always got easy access to Bleeding, most Conjurers will pick a magic that synergizes with it. Common picks are Acid, Poison, Explosion, Fire, Plasma and Magma. Poison and Acid in particular can apply their own statuses and still benefit from the increased damage due to Bleeding, as they don't clear the effect, thus allowing the statuses to stack for a lot of DOT.
    • Warlock: If you see a Warlock in-game, chances are they're using a combination of Iron Leg and Crystal Magicnote , Sailor Style with Lightning or Snow/Ice Magicnote , or Thermo Fist with Plasma, Ash or Explosionnote .
  • Demonic Spiders:
    • Behemoth Sea Monsters became this due to their enormous size and speed which include
      • White Eyes: It has an enormous hitbox which can instantly kill you even if you're on the ship. White Eyes gets even worse in the Dark Sea, where their HP and bite damage is doubled, and is more likely to chase the player than the normal variant.
      • Oboluses: It can ambush you at certain diving spotsnote . They can kill you quickly courtesy of their high bite damage (1000-2000 damage) if you can't get out of the water in time.
    • High bounty player or Assassin player also count as they usually tend to target and ambush high fame player or low leveled player unexpectedly or unfairly for their bounty or thrills.
      • Likewise, some Grand Navy or bounty hunter players tend to do the same. But the worst enemy for Villain players are notoriety Grand Navy who will always chase them no matter where they are, and they can be ridiculous overleveled if they get higher notoriety.
    • Mutated Atlanteans in Dark Sea became this due to their high agility, health and damage they dealt especially berserker type, as they will run toward the player and rapidly attack them and deal over 150 per hit.
      • Also if you're in the second layer of Dark Sea or beyond, they will spawn with ships with very high hp and begin to attack the player. if you try to flee from them, they will chase you non-stop until you leave them very far away.
  • Ensemble Dark Horse:
    • Edward Kenton, courtesy of him being most players’ preferred quartermaster and the fact that he’ll appear during your character’s rescue if you’ve completed his side-quest.
    • A Level 117,131 Legendary Beast Atlantean was sighted far into the Dark Sea during its release, with the player attempting to fight them instantly dying to a single attack. This Atlantean became so infamous for the sheer absurdity of its level, with the max player level being 125 at the time, and was nicknamed Martin.
  • Fandom Rivalry: Mainly to Deepwoken and Blox Fruit
  • Goddamned Bats:
    • Sharks in diving spots can be this, they deal a moderate amount of damage and they usually attack players unexpectedly which can give them a little spook. They used to be a Demonic Spiders during diving spot update due to a ridiculous amount of them, but they got nerfs after some patches.
    • Unlike Atlanteans who are the Lightning Bruiser, Sirens are notably weak but they can fly around players, which make it hard to attacking them, plus they will always spawn in tier insanity 1 areas AND always use either light magic or shadow magic(both of which inflict some sort of visual impairment effect), so players have to fight them with an Interface Screw. (unless they have warding)
  • Memetic Badass: The majority of the fanbase jokingly agrees that the Prince Revon fight was extremely difficult despite his Zero-Effort Boss status.
  • Memetic Mutation:
    • "Church/<Other religious building> of X" clansnote
    • Mimhere Islandnote
    • Flying sea monsters/whalesnote
    • Unloaded ghost NPCsnote
  • Scrappy Mechanic: Limb loss is a rare occurrence in this game, typically resulting from a lightning strike or a shark attack. However, if you're playing as a warrior and lose your right hand, you'll encounter serious trouble since most weapons you cannot use while under this effect.
  • That One Attack: King Calvus's pillar attack can instantly kill any player if they don't interrupt him in time, and his Projectile blast in his second phase can be very hard to dodge as he rapidly shoots out orbs that deal 75 damage per round.
    • Elius's spear throw attack counts too. It does a ton of damage (an average of 60-70 damage, which is a lot for a player who's probably going to have around 500-700 HP by the time they fight him) if you don't dodge it, which can be hard with such a small arena to fight in.
    • And then there's also Carina's "teleport" attack, which can be hard to dodge as well since it happens very quickly and is only indicated by a brief sound effect.
  • That One Boss: Most players find Lord Elius harder than Lady Carina or even King Calvus IV due to him being very hard to target along with his healing ability. Also, he has a huge jump in HP from the boss fought before him (1,200HP vs. Iris with 400HP), hits VERY hard, and starts using Lightning Magic in his second phase and dash even faster, make it even harder to spot his movement. His use of Lightning Magic is made worse by the fact that it starts raining when he transitions to his second phase, as having the Soaked status effect amplifies the amount of damage Lightning Magic deals on top of making it easier for it to apply Paralyzed.
    • Even so, both Lady Carina and King Calvus IV are still this. To make it even worse, if you decide to ignore the boss during storyline to grinding some EXP or galleons, You can't access any Ravenna town for shops or quests because any Bronze Legion will instantly capture player when detected.
  • That One Level: Fort Talos section in chapter 3 where you have to navigate on hallway celling can be very frustrating, if you accidentally dash while on a ceiling, the guards will instantly detect the player and kill them, this could be worse if you have a ton of galleons as you can easily lose a ton of it from this section.
  • That One Sidequest:
    • Anglerfishing in Sailor's Lodge requires you to fish up an anglerfish, which may take forever to complete due to the rarity of the anglerfish.
    • Cooking Expertise requires you to make a meal that gives you 400+ hunger, which requires about 3 or more giant fish to make which is pretty rare to find one. Plus the fish can't stay in your inventory any longer than 1 day or else it will become rotten and useless for cooking.
