    Gameplay
  • Randomly generated NPC and ship names can be quite interesting. Imagine running into an NPC named something like "Sharp" or seeing a ship named something like "The Dawn of the Dawn". Some posts on the official Arcane Odyssey Forums have quite a few replies showing screenshots of strange randomized names like these.
    • On that note, the names of spells and fighting style techniques randomly spawning NPCs can use can be very strange as well.
  • Some of the game’s tooltips are pretty funny. The tooltip for Morden’s Journal is humorously guilt-trippy, and the second sentence in the tooltip for bottles of seawater makes it sound like the game itself is almost questioning your sanity.
Morden's Journal tooltip: "A journal that belongs to your friend Morden. You picked it up and took it without telling him..."
Seawater bottle tooltip: "A glass bottle full of seawater. You can drink it, if you want..."
  • There’s a known bug involving sharks/whales/sea monsters floating out of water, which can be quite bizarre to witness.
    • The Dark Sea Update brought a bug that involves an inexplicable increase in whales in particular spawning in the sky, which quickly became well-known.
  • What's one strategy you can use to defeat Commodore Kai or Architect Merlot? Placing a copious amount of gunpowder barrels around them and hitting them with literally anything at all. If you place enough gunpowder barrels, you can do enough damage to insta-kill either of the two minibosses. Just be sure not to stand too close or else... well, what happens next doesn't need any explanation.
  • You probably found a castaway who is only a few meters away from a civilized island... and they don't even bother to swim there for some reason.
    • Equally funny and frustrating: castaways are oddly picky about how close you have to be to an island for them to get off your ship. And when they do disembark, they won't always get off on an island's dock. Should you position your ship correctly, they might appear on places like roofs of buildings or the ice near Frostmill Island's village after disembarking your ship.
  • Shopkeepers will take absolutely anything off your hands. Everything from seashells to boss drops.
  • Some NPCs will present you with very bizarre side-quests you can choose to take up. What's even more hilarious is that some of them actually give decent EXP rewards.
    • For example, Sikyatavo at Shell Island gives a task to cook 5 Meals. After the player completes the task he will mention that the player's meal is mediocre (even if they have very high cooking XP), after that he will give you Monoah Village's Gift, which is a giant banana that player can wear on their back.
  • The way cooking works is interesting, to say the least. You can throw both relatively normal and extremely bizarre combinations of fish, fruits, mushrooms, herbs and seasonings into cooking pots, and get a wide array of results.
    • Some of the aspects of cooking in and of themselves, like being able to make spaghetti or bread with just wheat, are completely illogical, as well as huge examples of Gameplay and Story Segregation. Gameplay-wise, it's justified by the fact that the cooking system is so simplified.
  • One of the nicknames for the Grand Navy is "Gravy". Imagine if that was used to refer to them in-universe.
    • Meanwhile, their rivals, the Assassin Syndicate, are generally just called the Ass.
  • When approached by an NPC wanted criminal, they will always say that you're their next victim or are unworthy to face them, but they probably have no idea how extremely low level they are to the player, resulting in a hilarious Curb-Stomp Battle
  • Fishing RNG with regards to new players can sometimes result in them getting extremely lucky and getting a rare fish within their first few catches.
"istg either redwake itself or newbies have boosted luck when fishing cause i fished a basking shark and a giant squid once on a new file too" - An Arcane Odyssey Forums commenter on the "Cursed WoMents/Arcane Oddities" thread
  • One minor update made it so that your crew will start fishing when your ship is idle, which is accompanied by randomized banter. Some of their dialogue lines can be pretty funny.
    • On a related note, although the crew NPC banter in the Dark Sea can get eerie and terrifying, there is something to be said about the dramatic Mood Whiplash that can come from crew NPCs saying Dark Sea dialogue lines immediately before or after saying fishing dialogue lines.

    Story & Universe
  • Ruby Roger gets arrested by Bronze Legion ensigns at Sailor's Lodge and tries to convince them that he isn't a pirate despite him telling everyone in the tavern that he is pirate. The player has to explain the situation to them, then another ensign realizes that they've never seen them on a bounty board before.
Lucius Lurco: Y'know, Paul, they do bring up a good point. I mean, they say they're pirates, but I've never seen them on any bounty board before...
  • During the escape from Ravenna Castello, Morden and Iris have this exchange, which provides a bit of comic relief in the midst of an otherwise serious situation:
Iris: Well, can you walk? ... Didn't think so.
  • Neviro apparently had a very hard time dealing with Iris while searching for the player at Ravenna, if his exasperation voiced through his journal is anything to go off of. He eventually says that he began viewing her as an annoying younger sister after some time, and that Morden being reserved and quiet was a nice change of pace considering what Iris put him through.
"We found someone else named Morden who was looking for the same person we are. He gives me the creeps. I don't mean that as in his personality, he's honestly a polite and overall respectful person even though he seems quiet and reserved. Though there's nothing wrong with a little peace and quiet, especially since I'VE HAD TO DEAL WITH IRIS ALL THIS TIME." - Neviro's Journal (Day 63, pt. 1)
  • The player's character shows little to no sense of discreetness/subtlety while asking about Fort Talos at Sailor's Lodge. Strangely enough, none of the three NPCs they ask about it think to question their intentions.
