Death Note Abridged Parody
is an... interesting take on the show it's based on. Unlike most other abridged parodies of Death Note, Light is portrayed here as a complete idiot. So when he finds the titular Death Note, naturally, Hilarity Ensues. This series is created by CharlestonVO.
This work provides examples of:
- Adaptational Dumbass: The entire conceit of this series is applying this to Light, and, to a slightly lesser extent, L. While both are calculating and clever in the original series, this version of Light is an idiot who misspells his own name. L, while still very analytical, is prone to using his logic to come to all the wrong conclusions.
- Baby Talk: When Misa sits in Light's chair, he asks her, "Does your bummy-twoshoes feel comfy-plumfy?"
- Bad Liar: Light when his mum sees Ryuk.Mum: Also, is that a demon?Light: No...... Nah......
- Cloudcuckoolander: Light tries to make a phoenix by setting fire to his desk with the Death Note in a drawer. And feathers. Otherwise it will just be Satan. Nobody wants Satan. He's also tried to bake ice. It didn't go well.
- L also qualifies. His conclusion is that Kira lacks shoulders and is jealous of those who have them.
- Clueless Detective: L is convinced that Kira is a Hitler Blowfish and his plan to catch it is just the letter 'L' written over and over again.
- Colour-Blind Confusion: Light says he can't tell red from blue.
- Comically Cross-Eyed: Ryuk starts to explain to Light why he shouldn't write his own name in the Death Note, but gives up when he sees Light's cross-eyed expression.
- Comically Missing the Point: Misa threatens to tell the police about Light's Death Note if she gets caught. Light is upset because they'll see all the private things he wrote in it.Misa: Yeah, that would be what you're worried about.
- *Cough* Snark *Cough*: Subverted.Watari: *cough* Pussy! *cough* Bitch! *cough*. Ah, I'm sorry, my apologies. I meant to call you a pussy bitch. But without the coughing.
- Disproportionate Retribution: Light tries to kill his mum for the crime of being able to see him.
- The Ditz: Many people, but most noticeably Light and L.
- Evil Laugh: Light does this and proclaims 'I will become Justice!'. While buying an Aquaman costume off eBay.
- Incredibly Lame Pun: After the busjacker is run over by a car, Light can only make truck puns.
- I Need to Go Iron My Dog: At one point, Light's mother asks Light about where he's been (he was investigating Kira in Flavortown). Light sees a toy baby on a Bible, and replies that he was making babies. With The Pope.
- Insane Troll Logic: L says that all the victims of the murders have shoulders. Therefore, the murderer must be someone who is jealous because they don't have shoulders. That narrows the suspects down to the heads from Futurama, certain animals, and plants. However, plants are incapable of any emotion except being salad. Therefore, the most likely suspect is a head and animal hybrid, like a sphinx, or a Kanye Shark, or a Hitler Blowfish.
- Ryuk tries to explain to Light that since the Death Note is his, Light is the only one that can see him. Light replies that the Death Note is his, so Ryuk is the only one who can see him.
- Insistent Terminology: Light keeps insisting that it's not a Death Note, it's his die-ary!
- Invisible to Normals: Ryuk claims that he is this, but it turns out that Light's mum can see him anyway.
- "Knock Knock" Joke: Chief Yagami does this to ask if he can 'police' ask L some questions.
- Lame Comeback: Naomi asks Raye Penber if he is jealous because she used to work with the FBI. His response is "...fuck you!".
- Motor Mouth: The line "We couldn't think of a rhyme, but it has a fish tank full of illegally imported fish which would destroy the local ecosystems' food chains if they were ever released into the wild." in the Crime Den rap is spoken very quickly.
- Nice Guy: The Yotsuba Group are portrayed as generous philanthropists, even being lured into a trap by Light saying that his "party" is for "the kids".
- Ninja Pirate Zombie Robot: The Hitler Blowfish L suspects of being Kira.
- "No. Just… No" Reaction: Ryuk's reaction to Light asking what foreplay is.
- Only Sane Man: Unlike everyone else, Misa's intelligence has actually increased, so she often finds herself to be this.
- Ryuk and Matsuda are generally more sensible than most of the cast as well.
- The Password Is Always "Swordfish": The password to L's apartment is 'password'.
- Poke the Poodle: The Crime Den does some very evil things, such as hiring hot waitresses (we discriminate!), not having any stools so people are forced to loiter, and being on its own block so people have to jaywalk to it.
- Prank Call: Light makes these a couple of times, once to the police.
- Pungeon Master: Light has made some surprisingly clever puns. He renames his Death Note 'die-ary', and, when alone at night, he quips 'I'm a Light in the dark'.Light: Is your refrigerator running?Guy: Uhhh... Yeah?Light: 'Cause I voted for Obama.
- Sure, Let's Go with That: L points out that there is a flaw in Misa's plan: he could just tell the investigation team that Misa is Kira while she isn't there... unless she hid a microphone in his clothes, because there'd be no way he'd be able to find that. Misa quickly replies that yes, she did hide a microphone in his clothes.
- Too Dumb to Live: Subverted. Light writes his own name in the Death Note. The only reason it doesn't kill him is because he spells it 'LIGHT YAGAMƎƎ'.
- Totally Radical: The Crime Den rap has a random voice shouting "rad!".
- Trademark Favourite Food: L seems to like Burger King.L: Watari! Put on your plastic crown, we're going to Burger King!
- Light can be bribed with gummy bears.
Light: Gummy bears are yummy in my tummy. - Uranus Is Showing: One of the places on L's list of where to search for Kira is "Uranus, your anus, my anus".
- Your Mom: In response to Matsuda, Watari comments 'Yes, and I thought your mother would be prettier, but I guess we're both disappointed'.
