"Well, I don't speak a word of Danish, but it sounds like they are saying..."
Meme Seed (Babs Seed)

Translations Gone Wrong is a series of YouTube videos of dubs of the songs of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic, with subtitles of what it sounds like according to a man named Nevel.

Because Nevel doesn't speak the languages, and because people's brains like to form associations, he mishears the lyrics as entirely different words which he does know. This series chronicles the comically nonsensical and unfitting results.

He also emphasizes that he is not disrespecting any country or making fun of them. He is only sharing the humorous results of not being able to speak their languages.

Translations Gone Wrong provides examples of:

  • Accidental Misnaming: Cadence apparently calls Twilight "Ann" in "This Day Aria".
  • Alliterative Name:
    • Pinkie Pie features in "Smile, Smile, Smile".
    • In "Hearts as Strong as Horses", the Cutie Mark Crusaders mention a "Justin Jones".
  • Bilingual Bonus: Of course, if you actually speak the languages, you'll know what they're saying and can actually be fascinated by the comparison.
  • Changing Chorus: In their version of "Babs Seed", the chorus is different both times. The first time, it's "Meme Seed, Meme Seed. Oh, can't find the loo. I am full, ready to bust. I'll settle for a vase! Meme Seed, Meme Seed. Air horn have to die. Morals love the stink of egg. Humans get us extra cash. Meme Seed, Meme Seed, I like to slam, slam pee." The second chorus goes, "Meme Seed, Meme Seed. Owner gaily knew. Time to put it in our arse, ah pull it, bad sluts. Meme Seed, Meme Seed, Ellen have to die. Murder looms like stinky egg, humans can't be assed to care."
  • Dub Name Change: The Danish dub changed Babs Seed's name into Mems Seed, which this series interprets as Meme Seed.
  • God: Occasionally, a word will come up that sounds like "God" or "Allah".
  • Frame-Up: In "Winter Strudel": "Somebody egg and frame me".
  • Hypocritical Humour: In "Heats as Strong as Horses", the CMC all say "watch your mouth" after using the word "shit" themselves. And then they still use strong language.
  • I Am Not Weasel: The dub of "Hearts as Strong as Horses" has some writing unrelated to the lyrics put onto the screen that suggest that Bulk Biceps mistakes a butterfly for a moth.
  • In My Language, That Sounds Like...
  • Jar Potty: This is suggested in "Meme Seed" (Babs Seed) when the Cutie Mark Crusaders sing the line "What we gonna do? Got a bully on our tail. We gotta hide, we gotta bail." in Danish, it's subtitled as "Oh, can't find the loo. I am full ready to bust. I'll settle for a vase."
  • The Medic: Zephyr Breeze, Rainbow Dash and Fluttershy mention a healer in "Can I Do it On My Own?".
  • Out of Character: Sometimes Nevel hears words come out of the ponies' mouths that they'd never actually say.
  • Parents in Distress:
    • In "SaBHFoG", Twilight's father is said to require a cure.
    • In "Hearts as Strong as Horses", the Cutie Mark Crusaders say "mom in jail".
  • Potty Emergency: The "Oh, can't find the loo, I am full ready to bust" lines from "Meme Seed" (Babs Seed) suggest that the Cutie Mark Crusaders really need to pee.
  • Shout-Out: Some accidental shout-outs occurred.
    • "This Day Aria" has the line "Vash is sack, indecent soul is Smeagol."
    • "He-Man" pops up on "I'll Fly".
    • Apple Bloom mentions "Moe feature" in "The Perfect Stallion", complete with a picture of Moe from The Simpsons.
    • The "hit Brain" line in "Winter Strudel" (Winter Wrap Up) is accompanied by a picture of Brain from Pinky and the Brain.
    • "The Laughter Song" has "Spock", a Temmie, and a picture of Nelson from The Simpsons.
    • The titular line in "Derby Racers" becomes "Die Epona". At the end of the video, a short animation is shown where a crying Epona is comforted by Link (and both are depicted as ponies). This receives a Call-Back in "The Perfect Stallion", where Scootaloo is told to go die, leading to an animation where Epona comforts Scootaloo.
    • "Battle of the Bands" mentions Bambi, the Able Sisters (who are illustrated), and The Beatles.
  • Sick Episode:
    • Zigzagged in "Winter Strudel" (Winter Wrap Up). Rainbow Dash's line is subtitled as "Susan's full of flu, I am", but Rainbow Dash doesn't show symptoms of flu and Susan isn't seen.
    • In "SaBHFoG" (BBBFF), several mentions are made of Twilight's father needing a cure.
  • Took a Level in Cynic: In "Winter Strudel" (Winter Wrap Up), Rainbow Dash sings, "I'll die a failure too".
  • Took a Level in Jerkass: Apple Bloom and Sweetie Belle appear to ask Scootaloo to die in "The Perfect Stallion". They, in addition to Scootaloo, also wish death on someone named Ellen in "Meme Seed" and call someone garbage in "Hearts as Strong as Horses".
  • Unicorn: Sweetie Belle, Rarity and other unicorns sometimes feature.
  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes?: Due to some writing Nevel put on the screen, the Translation Gone Wrong of "Hearts as Strong as Horses" suggests that Bulk Biceps, the muscular pony, is scared of moths.
  • Winged Unicorn: Princesses Cadence, Luna, and Celestia, who are both winged unicorns (Alicorns) in-show feature in "This Day Aria".
  • Would Hit a Girl: Zephyr seems to have no qualms about knocking out a girl and selling her.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Zephyr Breeze once "Dirtied a foal" in "Can I do it on my Own?"
  • You No Take Candle: "Meme Seed" (Babs Seed) has the line "Who do likey likey soup".
