The Grim is an animated web series by Hasani Walker.

The Grim centers on Gertrude Byrnes, a young red-headed girl who wants more than anything to see her grandmother again. However, on her first trip in the woods, she injures her leg in a bear trap, leaving her homebound for a while. However, Gertrude's desire to see her grandmother again will not let anything deter her.

The series was funded on Kickstarter on September 21st, 2011. Episode one was released on October 31st, 2013.

So far, it has two episodes.

Episode 01: "Fox"

Episode 02: "Cabin"

The Grim contains examples of:

  • Bear Trap: In "Fox", on her way to her grandmother's, Gertrude sees a bear trap on the forest floor with something caught in it. It freaks her out enough that she starts running, causing her to get caught in ANOTHER bear trap that she didn't see. She spends the rest of the episode on the forest floor, bleeding.
  • Determinator: Nothing will stop Gertrude from going to see her grandmother. Not creepy woods, not bear traps, not sociopathic talking foxes, not her father's forbidding it, not a leg so badly injured that she can't even wear a boot over it, not the very real possibility that her grandmother is actually dead, nothing.
  • Faux Affably Evil: The fox initially comes off as cordial, reasonable, and fairly polite when he starts talking to Gertrude. When she doesn't do what he wants, though, he gets very nasty, very quickly.
  • Good Scars, Evil Scars: Gertrude, the hero of the story and a fairly pleasant person overall, has a single, neat scar on her left cheek.
  • Informed Species: The fox in the first episode looks a lot like a lemur.
  • Talking Animal: The fox from its titular episode can talk.
  • Too Dumb to Live: Gertrude's second attempt to go see her grandmother falls into this. Her ankle is still injured to the point that it gives out on her occasionally and forces her to walk with a heavy limp, and she can't even wear a boot on her bad foot; despite this, she still decides to sneak out immediately rather than waiting until she's properly healed, and furthermore chooses to leave in the middle of the night when visibility is poor. If she encounters another bear trap, or the angry fox, or any other threat that she can't fend off with her walking stick, she is screwed.
  • Youthful Freckles: Gertrude has freckles scattered across her cheeks and nose, and is a young woman (seemingly in her early-mid teens) who is perhaps lacking a bit in the common sense department.
