* AdultFear: For Gertrude's father, Patrick, the entire series so far is this. There's clearly ''something'' about the woods that has him on edge, and yet his young daughter insists on going out there, alone, to see her grandmother. The last time she tried, she got badly injured and could have bled to death or been killed by hostile wildlife if Patrick hadn't found her; now she wants to try ''again'', despite barely being able to walk, and resents Patrick's efforts to stop her from doing so. At the end of the second episode, [[spoiler:she sneaks out again, at night, still barely able to walk, half-barefoot, with nothing but a walking stick for self-defense]]. No wonder the dude's a little uptight.

* FauxAffablyEvil: The fox initially comes off as cordial, reasonable, and fairly polite when it starts talking to Gertrude. When she doesn't do what he wants, though, he gets very nasty, very quickly.

The Grim centers on Gertrude Byrnes, a young red-headed girl who wants more than anything to see her grandmother again. However, on her first trip in the woods, she injures her leg in a bear trap, leaving her homebound for a while. However, Gertrude's desire to see her grandmother again will not deter her.
